XINYI Dist. & FOUR FOUR SOUTH VILLAGE_ INTRODUCTION
>> Xinyi Dist., Taipei East Taipei, especially Xinyi Dist, is the most prosperous area in Taiwan. The Xinyi Dist. is the seat of the Taipei mayor's office and the Taipei City Government. Key buildings including Taipei 101, Taipei City Council, Taipei International Convention Center, Taipei World Trade Center, and various shopping malls and entertainment venues make Xinyi the most modern cosmopolitan district of Taipei. Xinyi District is also considered the financial district of Taipei. The site is near one of the tallest building in the world – Taipei 101. This area renders a sense of rapid and instant development. >> Four Four South Village Four Four South Village, the former military dependents' village was built, filled with old low houses, and unused ground. Nowadays, the old village was mostly demolished, but a small part was preserved to serve as an Exhibition Center, and there is some landscape greening around the preserved part. Xinyi District

Four Four South Village >> In order to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, I created a green center and a historical space in this place. I tried to extract the site from this atmosphere both psychologically and physically.

The north-site is scattered with messy private vege gardens, which is situated between the old village site and the World Trade Center, and has the potential to be a connection point. The way it was abandoned and wasted is a pity. South of the old village site is a Neighborhood

residents visit and get-together. But it is on the brink of the old

STRATEGY & DESIGN CONCEPT + PROCESS SKETCH
>> Strategy To create a connection and cohesion between the three – the preserved old village, the north ground, and the south park. To take the hustle bustle commercial area across the road into consideration.
>> Strategy To combine the old with the new, and transform the site into a green oasis of the city where people can repose, relax, and contemplate. These are the main strategy of this project. Concrete to Green
Hard to Soft
Reality to Abstract
>> Concept Take the urban image and the feature of old military dependents villages into consideration, combining the geometric pattern of city blocks, with the old village impressions like narrow alley, anti-aircraft shelter, and pitched roof.

The visitors thus can not only relax here but also learn some city history. >> Fountain Plaza At the west side of the park there is a Fountain Plaza, where the visitors and residents of this neighborhood can refresh themselves, during summer time, when the fountain will be unlocked. TAICHUNG METROPOLIAN PARK _ INTRODUCTION
>> The site is located in the central Taiwan, and is on the border between Taichung City and Taichung County. The core value of this project is to make the most of the significance of its locality, connecting the urban surroundings with the recreation surroundings, and thus becoming an important tourism landmark in central Taiwan, while benefiting the environmental sustainability in the same time. //Natural Landscape Outlook //
>> The big size of this unban park enables the park to function as the breathing lung of the Taichung metropolis – improving the air quality for the conurbation – as well as the top choice for weekend and holiday outing. >> An urban park experience shall not simply be a rehearsal of national parks experience, nor shall an urban park simply be an expanded street park. An urban park shall maximize its possibility, becoming a major meeting point in the city and a feature of urban life. This project aims to reach such goal.

Revive and awaken. This project will awaken the recognition of the importance of urban park in the big Taichung. It values the needs of the metropolis. Various activities can be found in the park, a diverse and friendly urban park. The urban park will be simple yet not monotonous, indicating yet not complicated, secret yet not closed, open yet not fenceless. They seem contradictory when put together, yet they are all needed in an urban park. An urban park needs to respond to various needs.

The design concept is to encourage the harmonious relationship between man and the environment. The entire park is like a hand buried deep into the earth, feel the earth, and it is from such connection greenery is grown. A sense of connection and appreciation to the earth from people of all ages. Five fingers stretched outward, each creates its own independent space, for different activity, yet all are connected to the bigger structure. The hand is like embedded in the earth, inseparable from the earth.

BEYOND DEATH << They are not visible but they are not gone. They are everywhere; they are in every beautiful thing around you. >>
2007 // Junior Year Design Studio Prefessor // Hsiao-lin Wang Collaborator // Hsin-rung Lee Position // Site Analysis, Design, Drawing Program // Mortuary Space Renewal Design Location // Taichung Ciy, Taiwan Area // 23,110 m²
BORN - start the life jouney in a owing water and keep the self-challenge continually
GROWN UP - all the challenge make people became a life-complete individual
ETERNITY BEYOND DEATH _ INTRODUCTION
>> Like water. In Taoism, there is an important water metaphor. Tao is like flowing water, acing subtly, never competitive nor aggressive. It doesn’t act to break the obstacles, but flow around it, with its rhythm. Water is also like a clear mirror, reflecting men’s nature and the original state of harmony. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush
>> Water exists in nature in three different states: solid, liquid, and vapor. Human beings in the vast world are like liquid water, continually flowing or propelling. And the experience most distinct to a human soul, not deprivable because it can only be gained through challenges or despairs, is like the clear ice, which will only become solid after wintry coldness. And the soul itself is like vapor. Though not visible or touchable like water, its existence is real and definite. >> The site of this project is located in Taichung city. It is the most important mortuary in Taichung. Unfortunately like other mortuaries in Taiwan, its high wall separates the inside from the outside, and its atmosphere is dreadful. Thus people always are fear of or stay away from it.
Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. - Mary Elizabeth Frye, 1932
Liquid Water Flowing water symbolizes a rich experienced life.
Solid Water Crystallized ices under zero degree symbolize the unique individuals defined by their own trials of life.
THE END - after all the chaos in life, let the spirit and soul liberate from the body, then step on a unkown new journey
Vapor Water Vapor symbolizes the invisible yet relatable souls, sometimes even felt like the truest thing in the world.
26 | 27
The design aims to open the view of the mortuary. Instead of high concrete walls, it employs great greens, enabling people to calm themselves here. It also includes the water element, in order to soften the tone of the site, and to embody the metaphor of three water states. The mortuary will thus no longer be a place only for short stop by, but a place for reminisce, memory and eternity.

To emphasize the design concept, this part will be composed of many water elements. The water channel runs through this part, and its owing rhythm will bring up vivacity which helps people to move forward from their sentiments. Along the water channel there are some water vapor installations, which function to create misty surroundings, where people can have some substance to relate to the deceased. The project is located in Tienmu, Taipei, a district ďŹ lled with exclusive apartments. Because the small size of this site, the crucial task is to create a high quality residential environment with an open and airy impression within a limited space. Instead of redundant decorations, the doorway is designed with simply hardscape, to be more yielding to the open space, and mirrored by a water feature, which allows the homecoming resident to feel peaceful.

CONSTRUCTION DRAWING + DIGITAL & PHYSICAL MODELING
The backyard it is featured with a big outdoor swimming pool, simply designed with a stone feature wall and diverse plants, recalling the relaxing and recreational atmosphere in the southeast Asia. During the development of the construction drawing, the project is asked to make a thorough plan of the site drainage system. The project thus installs the adjustable pedestals to all the outdoor landscape platforms to solve such problem.

CONCEPT + PROCESS SKETCH
The architecture’s shape resembles a sailing shipt. Just like how the wave forms at the bow of a moving boat alters the surrounding water flow, the architecture and the surrounding landscape make the whole site a more vivid and interesting place to be.
