SSSRA wishes our participants, families, part-time staff and community supporters continued good health and happiness. SSSRA is offering in-person and virtual programs and special events this fall. South Suburban Special Recreation Association (SSSRA) is a therapeutic recreation program that is an extension of the Tinley Park-Park District. SSSRA is organized to provide individuals with special needs or disabilities the opportunity to be involved in year round recreation programs.

Scholarships are available to SSSRA residents with disabilities who would like to participate in one or more programs, but cannot afford the fees charged.

Inclusion Services

Individuals who have special needs are welcome to participate alongside their peers in any programs offered by our member park districts and recreation departments.

SSSRA is committed to providing a variety of recreation and leisure choices for individuals who have special needs. We believe that all individuals should be provided with leisure opportunities that allow for success at their highest level of ability. SSSRA realizes that park district and recreation department programs may be the best choice for some.

Through the Inclusion process, SSSRA staff members are available to help participants choose an appropriate program, conduct staff trainings, or supply adaptive equipment if you or a family member is interested in a park district or recreation department program.

Karate

Come out and learn some karate with your friends from SSSRA! Master Ben will teach us various karate moves each week. Wear comfortable clothes to class so you can move. If you would like to purchase the karate uniform, please bring $30 the first week of class. Students will have the chance to test for various levels throughout the program. More information will be available the first week of class. All individuals must be registered to attend the program. Outdoor Movie Night – Hocus Pocus

Join SSSRA, friends and family for an outdoor movie experience. We will be watching Hocus Pocus. Bring your blanket and/or chair to sit on and a blanket to stay warm. Don't forget the insect repellent and to dress for the weather! The movie begins at approximately 6:30 pm. Families welcome! Snacks and drinks will be provided. All individuals must be registered to attend the program. Virtual Drawing Techniques

Tinley Park-Park District (TP-PD) welcomes participation in all programs and activities by individuals with disabilities and special needs. TP-PD is committed to inclusion and providing public recreation services in the most integrated setting in which interaction between people with and without disabilities is provided to the maximum extent feasible. TP-PD works cooperatively with South Suburban Special Recreation Association (SSSRA) to facilitate successful participation for those who register for inclusive programming. The Tinley Park-Park District follows the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for the purpose of employment, programs, services, activities and facilities.

It's time to get creative and learn different drawing techniques. We might even learn about famous artists or the history of art. If this is your first time in Drawing Techniques, you will also receive a drawing book before programs begin. All individuals must be registered to attend the program.Registration Deadline: September 26 Persons ages 13 and older Virtual Tuesday, October 11 – November 29 5:00-6:00 pm

Due to the generosity of an anonymous donor, this program is offered free of charge for all participants.

A Visit to the North Pole

SSSRA is celebrating the season and transforming into the North Pole! You will be able to make reindeer food, play games, make a craft, enjoy hot cocoa and visit with Santa Claus at the North Pole workshop! Sammy Stingray will also be there for pictures! All individuals must be registered to attend the program. Registration Deadline: December 2 All Ages SSSRA Office, Tinley Park Saturday, December 10 Session 1: 10:00-11:00 am Session 2: 11:00 am-12:00 pm Session 3: 12:00-1:00 pm R: $10 for family of 4, $5 per additional person NR: $20 for family of 4, $10 per additional person LWSRA & SWSRA: $10 for family of 4 Please note that if you register and do not show up for the event, you will be charged an additional $26 fee for each no show in your party.

Park Pavilion Rentals

Tinley Park-Park District is home to over 40 beautiful park sites. Many of the parks offer pavilions that can be rented for your event.

Park Rental Procedures

Park rentals are on a first come-first served basis. Rentals must be completed in person at the Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center. Rentals are available from May 1 through mid-October each year. Please note, some sites may be unavailable because of normal Park District programming use or park renovations.

Following first day reservations, rentals may be requested at the Bettenhausen Rec Center in person during normal business hours. Renters must present a valid driver's license or state ID at time of rental. Renters must be at least 21 years of age. Complete rules for renters and park amenities can be found on our website.

The Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center offers rooms of various sizes to accommodate your event. Room rentals are available for a minimum of two hours. Please visit our website for the most current information on rentals and restrictions.

Rentals must be booked in person at Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center. Rentals require a minimum of 30 days advance reservation. You may book up to 4 months prior to your event date.
