Behavior Policy

Tinley Park-Park District has an established behavior policy relative to inappropriate behavior. Inappropriate behavior is defined as that which disrupts a recreation program/activity and which requires a class instructor/ staff member to call for a stop of the behavior due to its effect on other participants or on the instructor's ability to conduct the program. Such behavior may call for immediate and/or permanent dismissal of the individual from the program. Additional rules may be developed for individual programs/activities as deemed necessary by the staff.

To ensure residency privileges are not abused, all resident patrons must prove their residency within the Tinley Park-Park District boundaries to receive the discounted resident rate. Report cards and school IDs do not prove residency. A parent must accompany their child(ren) age 15 and younger to the Recreation Center front desk to obtain the Resident ID Card. Bubble Gum Summer Slime

The last three years have had us all feeling a bit stressed and stretched. Kids have really had to use their stretchy thinking or "Bubble Gum" thinking to not get stuck. This growth mindset is dramatized and celebrated as we make a batch of amazing bubble gum slime. It looks, feels and smells like nostalgic bubble gum. We learn the history of this beloved chewy treat and why minty gums didn't sell as well as fruity ones during the pandemic! Kids keep their slime and are offered gum as an optional treat. This is a drop off class.

The Thrills and Chills of the Ice Cream Business

National Ice Cream Day is July 16! Making and eating ice cream is a fun way to introduce early chemistry concepts to children and helps build self-esteem. Kids can become experts on this billion-dollar industry as they make a batch of homemade ice cream. Did you know ice cream began with the concept of the Icee? We explore the science and behind the beloved amusement park treat, Dippin’ Dots. Did you know the founder is from Illinois? Sometimes entrepreneurship happens by accident! We discuss the fascinating stories behind Eskimo Pies and waffle cones. Compete in the most outrageous ice cream eating contest in town (optional, but so much fun). Did anyone say brain freeze? This is a child’s dream class that puts fun back into learning. Don’t wear your Sunday best this class gets sticky! Highly motivating souvenirs are included to keep the kids poppin' throughout class and working towards their personal best. Lots of samplings, socialization, contests and good old-fashioned fun over summer break.

Back to School Self-Esteem/Leadership Lab

Summer is coming to an end and soon kids head back to school. As you stock up on the school supplies, don’t forget self-esteem and leadership! While building these life skills is an ongoing journey, this workshop is a great kick-off. This self-esteem lab experience offers incredibly fun activities and games to boost our children’s gifts and talents in the 2023-2024 school year. Everyone is good at something; we just must roll up our sleeves and figure it out. Through wacky dramatizations and experiences, kids have the chance to cultivate self-worth and won't realize they are working on it! What to expect? Interactive games like: Splat Ball Scatter, Lollipop Marathon, Whirling Confetti Storm, Compliment Café and more! In a self-absorbed and competitive world, garnering and keeping self-esteem is sometimes a tall order, but this class helps harness it!

Tinley Park Community Theater

The Tinley Park-Park District Community Theater program is a long standing program that welcomes returning and new actors on stage each spring and fall. Let your talents grow and shine as a member of our Community Theater! If you are new to the stage, let us help you develop your talents into the skills you’ll need for the best of classic and contemporary theater. Housed in the Tinley Park Performing Arts Center, we look forward to meeting you at our auditions, which consist of a short interview and a simple reading of a monologue from the play. Please bring a list of your schedule conflicts as well as your clothing sizes to the audition. Call (708) 342-4200 to be added to the audition list or for additional information. There is no program fee for the actors.

This fast-paced British farce concerns a con artist who has duped the welfare authorities for years by claiming every type of benefit for the innumerable people he claims live at his address. He's sent scrambling when welfare investigators show up and he is forced to prove all his boarders are in fact real. A hilarious comedy full of mistaken identities, slamming doors and a con that spirals out of control. Join us for some serious laughs!

South Bend Museums & Notre Dame Tours

We start the day off with a delicious buffet at Brothers Bar & Grill, a downtown South Bend staple before head to Notre Dame for a private walking tour. Stunning landmarks include the main building with the Golden Dome atop, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the Grotto and the Word of Life Mural (known commonly as Touchdown Jesus). We then travel to the Studebaker National Museum and the History Museum, situated on the same campus in South Bend, for an unforgettable look at the area’s past. The Studebaker focuses on automotive and industrial history, and the History Museum takes a wider lens view of the area’s history and features the 38-room Oliver Mansion, a beautiful home that serves as its own kind of time capsule. Fee includes the three (3) tours, round-trip mini motorcoach transportation and buffet (pre-determined options, coffee/ tea/water and gratuity).

Black Point Estate & Gardens

Spend the day with us at Lake Geneva! Upon arrival, do some shopping on the town on your own and rejoin the group at Popeye’s for lunch (pre-determined options). Then it’s on to the sights of beautiful Black Point Estate. Our tour guide takes us through the first two floors of this beautiful Queen Annestyle summer cottage, considered one of the finest examples of period architecture and furniture in the Midwest. One of the oldest mansions in Lake Geneva, the home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Outside the mansion, the estate truly comes alive in the enchanting gardens and wrap-around veranda surrounding the home. The massive lawn, a popular spot for special events, evokes memories of outdoor games played on leisurely summer days. Located on top of a bluff overlooking Geneva Lake, this site offers a stunning, picturesque view of the lake and surrounding countryside. Lunch at Popeyes, tour and roundtrip motor coach transportation is included.
