Simone’s Say Terms at Tiny Tutus just fly by like butterflies! Hello to all our lovely families and ballerinas. I do hope that you are having a marvellous time with us at Tiny Tutus.

Over the past few weeks I have felt my heart lifted as I read the gorgeous emails sent in by parents praising our teachers and programs. Some of these we share on our Facebook page. Others we share with our teachers and admin team. As a Mummy myself, I know how busy life can be and I can’t tell you how much we appreciate when someone takes the time to write in to us about their Tiny Tutus experience.

Most of our Tiny Tutus Recital dates have now been announced! A Tiny Tutus Recital is truly a UNIQUE experience. It’s about happiness and celebration. Our ballerinas DON’T wear make-up. There’s NO sewing. There’s NO pressure on our ballerinas to ‘know’ the dance as their teacher dances with them on stage, it’s all about building confidence. Getting up on stage is a big step that we make beautiful for each little person and their family. Teachers will be chatting to their classes about our end of year recital in upcoming lessons and we’ll be sending information out to all our families in a couple of weeks, but don’t forget to save the date! (see page 17 for some of our recital dates)

Our new Tiny Tutus Birthday Parties seem to be all the rage with dozens of smiling little girls twirling with delight after their ballet party. If your ballerina is having a party, A Tiny Tutus Fairy, Princess or Ballerina party would be perfect.

As always, I need to acknowledge, with love and appreciation, the amazing team that I am surrounded by. Our admin and teaching staff are all truly incredible individuals who I am blessed to have with Tiny Tutus. I’d like to personally congratulate the simply remarkable ‘Teacher of the Month’ Award winner Miss Lee, who takes our Groote Eylandt classes and is an absolute gem. We are very lucky to have her on board.

Sending Tutu Hugs, Simone. xx

Birthday Parties Bring the magic of Tiny Tutus to your ballerina’s next birthday! Our Tiny Tutus Birthday Parties have 3 themes for you to choose from; Fairyland, Princess or Ballerina. Each birthday party runs for 1.5-2 hours and includes; a dance lesson, craft activities, games and of course a special gift for the birthday girl! We will also design your invitations too! Every birthday party receives personalized invitations, each theme with 2 styles to choose from, but if you would like something different, that’s okay too, we can design special invitations just for you. All of our birthday party themes have 3 packages to choose from, beginning at $250.00 (for up to 10 guests)

For more information on how to book, please see our website, www.tinytutus.com.au or email us at projects@tinytutus.com.au

Make and Do Concertina Ballerina You Will Need; -

Paper (any colour you like) Pencils Scissors

-

Pens and markers for decorating

Step One: Trace around concertina ballerina (pictured bottom left) onto a piece of plain white paper. Make sure that her hand is right against the left edge of the paper. Tracing Tip: Place the page you want to trace onto a window with the plain paper over the top. The image will be much clearer making it easier to trace.

Step Two: Find the centre of the ballerina and fold her in half, keeping the outline outwards.

Page 9

Step Three: Now fold the paper the other way, continue this until you have no paper left. It should begin to look like a fan.

Step Four: Holding the paper still cut around the half ballerina you can see on the top. You want to cut through all the layers of paper. Be sure to not cut the end of her hand as that is how they all connect.

Step Five: Now gently unfold the concertina.

There you have it, a beautiful line of concertina ballerinas dancing together just like the four signets in Swan Lake.

Let your little dancer decorate each ballerina, or you could also try using different coloured paper or cardboard. Once they are complete hang them above beds, or in doorways. They are a magical, handmade addition to any ballet themed room.

Make and Do Tutu Cupcakes Start with plain sponge cupcakes in any flavour you like. For these cupcakes a butter cake recipe was used. You Will Need: -

Cupcakes, cooled to room temperature Buttercream icing or frosting Pink food colouring or substitute

-

A piping bag A piping nozzle in a star shape

-

Edible decorations (edible sugar glitter,

-

sugar pearls, sugar hearts etc) White cardboard

-

Coloured pens or textas A glue stick

-

One ended tooth picks

Tutu Toppers Step One: Print out the tutu toppers bodice template pictured right. You will need 2 for each cupcake.

Page 11

Step Two: Colour and decorate each one before cutting them out.

Step Three: Cover the back of one bodice in glue, then place the toothpick, sharp side down, onto the glue. Try to make it as centred as possible and have as much tooth pick in the bodice as possible.

Step Four: Place the other matching bodice over the tooth pick and hold it down until it stays in place.

Cupcake Icing Step One: To make pink icing, take frosting and add a small amount of food colouring. Remember you can always go brighter but not lighter, so add small amounts at a time. Mix well until colour has been achieved. Repeat until it’s exactly the shade you like, then fill your piping bag.

Page 12

Step Two: Pipe a line of icing from the centre of the cupcake to the outside as close to the edge as you can get it.

Step Three: Continue piping lines from the centre out, all the way around the cupcake. Don’t worry if there are gaps you can fill those later.

Step Four: Fill the gaps around the outside with small icing stars. Place the nozzle in the gap, squeeze a small amount of icing out, then push the nozzle into the icing and pull it out quickly.

Step Five: To finish, place tutu bodice into the centre of the cupcake just until the bottom is touching the icing and decorate.

Little Ballet Helpers Tips and tricks for your little ballerina

Top Five Classical Ballets A classical ballet is a stunning performance of graceful movements, set to the moving sounds of an orchestra. A ballet production tells an enchanting story and is something every little ballerina will absolutely love. Here are the top five most performed stories.

Cinderella This is the story of a young girl who finds love and happiness through her acts of kindness. The Nutcracker This ballet is most prominently performed around the holiday season as it is a Christmas classic. It follows Clara, who after being gifted a nutcracker doll, dreams of him coming to life.

Sleeping Beauty A wonderful story of a princess who pricks her finger on a cursed spindle putting her into a deep sleep, awaiting true loves kiss.

Swan Lake Swan Lake may just be the most famous ballet of all time. The story of 2 lovers, one cursed as a swan and one fooled by an evil sorcerer. (If you’re after happy endings, you may want to skip this one)

The Red Shoes A tale of a ballerina torn between dancing and love, after finding the perfect pair of bright red ballet shoes, she realises they are cursed and she can never stop dancing.
