Simone’s Say This term I have certainly been reminded over and over again why Tiny Tutus truly is ‘Ballet for Princesses’. As I do frequently, I have had the absolute pleasure of visiting so many of our fabulous classes and watching our gorgeous ballerinas twirl with delight in their tutus. Our ballerinas’ radiate happiness from the inside, which makes each and every one of them ‘princess beautiful’. More than that, watching these ballerinas interact with their teachers is magical. We are blessed with wonderful, loving teachers who truly adore the little ones in their classes. Seeing the ongoing development and improvement of our children is a credit to their teachers, the ballerinas themselves as well as their supportive parents. This term, my boys have been part of the public speaking competitions in their school. Watching children as young as five stand in front of a full audience and speak is truly awe inspiring. This is something that many adults would not have the confidence or courage to do. However our school makes this such a positive and supportive experience for the children that they thrive on the opportunity. Our Tiny Tutus recitals give our little girls the chance to experience being on stage for the first time in a supportive, happy, success filled adventure that makes being in front of an audience a marvellous experience and not nerve-wrecking or scary. This is a memory and a skill that our ballerinas take with them through life.

I am so excited that our Tiny Tutus Recital season is starting. This year, our recitals are themed around famous and well known ballets. The costumes are stunning and sitting here surrounded by the gorgeous designs I can definitely say this mummy of boys gets her pink fix this time of year. Online enrolments are almost open, please keep an eye on your email for enrolling details. Just to add to the recital excitement we are running a special competition for all our ballerinas and families! Simply send in a picture of your ballerina in her recital tutu from last year or if you’re a new ballerina, a picture of your ballerina in her class tutu and tell us why you love recital or why you’re excited about being a part of it this year. Winners will receive a full recital package! See our Facebook page for details. Our Tiny Tutus Birthday parties are certainly a sensation! If your ballerina has a birthday coming up make it a Tiny Tutus Party. Read all about our parties in this edition or jump on our website and click the “Party” tab for information. Your ballerina will love it! Our teachers are our heart and soul. I’d like to personally congratulate two amazing ladies who won our ‘Teacher of the Month’ Award. Congratulations to Miss Lisa in Western Australia who is our May Teacher of the Month and Miss Kiandra in Victoria who is our June Teacher of the Month. Thank-you for being part of Tiny Tutus and sharing your ballerina’s first twirls with us at Tiny Tutus

Simone xx

Tiny Tutus

Recital 2015 Our Tiny Tutus Recitals are a lovely performance opportunity for beautiful little dancers who * are just at the very beginning of their dancing ‘career’.

They are a lovely, stress-free chance to put on a beautiful costume tutu and dance on a magical stage in front of family and friends. This term, our ballerinas will begin to learn a dance. This dance will be a combination of steps taught throughout the year. Learning a routine is a wonderful way for ballerinas to have a goal to strive towards.

Unlike most dance studios, our Tiny Tutus recitals are only 45 minutes long, so Daddy’s don’t worry, there won’t be a chance for you to fall asleep. Every single ballerina receives a beautiful handpicked, age appropriate tutu that needs no sewing, sequinning or trimming. We also do not require makeup, we think your little princesses are perfect just the way they are. All of our recitals and rehearsal are during the day so no tired little bodies.

There is a lot of things to learn about our magical recitals and all of the details will be sent to you very soon in our Recital booklets but before that gets to you we would like to share with you some of the most frequently asked questions that come to the Tiny Tutus office at recital time.

Page 5

Q. How many times will my daughter be on the stage? A. During the recital, your ballerina will be on stage three times: in the opening welcome, The class choreographed routine and the finale for their recital.

Q. What does my little ballerina wear for her recital? A. Every single one of our ballerinas receives a stunning tutu to wear for their Recital photos and of course the performance. These will be handed out in class closer to recital dates and are included in the price of your recital registration.

Q. Will our class teacher be at the recital? A. Of course! Your Tiny Tutus teacher will be there every step of the way from orientation to recital. They will be standing either to the side or in the wings of the stage to give any ballerinas a helping hand if needed.

Page 6

Q. How and when do I buy tickets to a Tiny Tutus Recital? A. Recital tickets are sold online at TryBooking.com. A direct link will be emailed to you or you can find a link on our homepage at www.tinytutus.com.au once tickets have gone on sale. There is a small booking fee payable on each ticket. Tickets will be on sale on the 6th October 2015 at 7am.

Q. What makeup does my ballerina need for recital day? A. None, we think your little ballerinas are perfect just the way they are!

Q. Am I able to stay backstage with my ballerina? Who looks after her if I’m not there? A. You are more than welcome to stay backstage with your ballerina for the duration of the performance if you wish. You will be able to watch their performance from the side of stage. Each class will have 2 parent/guardians who will be the class leaders. Class Leaders supervise your ballerina’s class backstage during the recital. They will bring the ballerinas to the stage when it’s their turn to dance and return them to their dressing room after performing. Its lots of fun!

Cardboard Scissors Glue Ribbon Stapler Material pieces Jewels and glitter for decorating Pens or pencils

Step One: Using a “leotard template trace as many leotards as you like onto coloured cardboard. Then cut them out.

Step Two: Using pens, pencils, glitter, jewels and ribbon to decorate the bodice. Being sure to leave a 1-2cm gap at the bottom. Step Three: To make the skirt, take small pieces (approx 15cm x 15cm) of material and concertina fold it along one edge. Then place a piece of ribbon (approx. 15cm) and place on top. Be sure to hold the top of the folds tightly to stop it from unravelling. Step Four: Line the pinched piece of material and ribbon up with the bottom edge of the bodice. Little Ballet Helpers Tips and tricks for your little ballerina In this edition of little ballet helpers we give you 3 ballet mum hacks that might come in handy as I gets closer to recital time! Toothpaste? Not only is it important for keeping your teeth nice and clean, it can also be used to remove stains from leather and suede ballet shoes. Be sure to use non gel toothpaste, and one that it is white in colour. Place a small amount on a damp cloth or old toothbrush and rub until stain disappears. Then wipe excess toothpaste off.

Bobby Pins Won’t Stay In? Can you never seem to get bobby pins to stay in your little ballerina’s hair? Spray your bobby pins lightly with hair spray before placing them in the hair for an extra tight hold and make sure to put them in the hair bumpy side down.

Ouch! Blisters! There is nothing worse than trying to dance with blistered heels. To prevent them spray the inside of your little ones ballet shoes with deodorant and then put a small amount of talcum powder inside and circle the shoe until it has spread throughout. Tip the excess out and they are ready to go! The powder and deodorant help them to stick to the skin, minimising friction and stopping blisters.

Say Cheese! We absolutely love seeing all our Tiny Tutus Ballerinas dancing, twirling and doing what they love. If you have photos of your little ballerina’s you would like to share, please email them to projects@tinytutus.com.au
