Hosted by one of our Tiny Tutus Prima Ballerinas, your daughter’s next birthday party will be the talk of the town.

Birthday Parties run from 1.5-2 hours and can include a range of activities such as; - Ballet class - Arts and crafts - Games Leave the organizing to us! We will have prizes, take home bags and a special surprise for the birthday girl. Plus everyone who attends receives a voucher for one free Tiny Tutus class!

Finally I’d like to acknowledge our incredible Tiny Tutus Teachers who make up my Tiny Tutus family. Our teachers are our heart and soul. I’d like to personally congratulate two amazing ladies who won our ‘Teacher of the Month’ Award. Congratulations to Miss Ellen who was our February recipient and Miss Cree who is our March teacher of the month. Bun Fun Ever wondered how ballerinas have such perfect hair? Struggling to get your little one’s hair to stay back for the entire ballet class? We are here to help! Perfecting the ballet bun takes time and practice but there are a few tricks to make this hairstyle an easy go to for all occasions, not just ballet class! Tiny Tutus Bun Kit You will need;

(Available from our online boutique)

A brush

-

A fine tooth comb

-

2 hair elastics

-

Bobby pins

-

Bun pins (these are the V shaped ones)

-

Foam bun piece

-

Hair spray (for extra hold)

Step 1 Pull hair back into a tight pony tail. Be sure to comb back all whispy or loose hair. Step 2 Pull fringe or any leftover hair back and secure with bobby pins.

Step 3 For a stronger hold, cross bobby pins over one another in a X shape. Step 4 Spray with hairspray and comb back hair making it as smooth as possible.

Page 2 Step 5 Place donut over ponytail and pull all hair through.

Step 6 Spread hair evenly over donut and comb to make sure the hair is smooth.

Step 7 Place elastic over the hair and donut. Lightly pull the hair to remove any bumps. Step 8 If possible, loop the elastic over again and repeat. Step 9 Pull the left over hair to the right and wrap around the bottom of the bun, using bun pins to secure as you go. Step 10 Spray with hair spray then lightly place your hands over the bun and squeeze to secure any loose pins. Step 11 Using a comb and bobby pins, secure any bumps or loose hair.

Step 12 Place hair net over bun and secure with bun pins. Spray hair with hairspray one last time and your bun is complete!

In all Tiny Tutus classes parents and siblings are welcome to watch the magic of their little ballerina twirling and smiling with us, but sometimes having a room full of people can be very distracting. There are a few things you can do as mummies and daddies to help us keep your beautiful dancer alert for the entire class.

Timing Is Everything Being on time for class is essential, you need enough time to put ballet shoes on, wipe vegemite off faces and fix that hair clip that does not want to stay in. We love when parents are early and raring to go, but please be mindful that there is a class before you still dancing. Please wait until class is over before entering the hall, 5 minutes has been allocated for change over.

Turn Your Phone On Silent Imagine you’re at the movies. Ringtones and sounds from your phone distract the other people around you watching, same thing applies for class. We understand as parents you are very busy and multitasking is a must but please be wary that outside noises take the attention away from our Tiny Tutus teacher. Switch it to silent and email away!

But I Want To Dance Too! We absolutely love seeing brothers and sisters in class with us, we know they love to see their sibling dance and sometimes they want to join in as well. We understand sitting still is impossible for little ones and there are few things your Tiny Tutus teachers can help with, just ask! We are happy to put mats out in the parent viewing area for them to dance on, or share a wand or some wings. You never know, if they are nice and quiet we may have a sticker for them too!

Leave It To The Teacher Sometimes ballerinas don’t do what they’re asked, it’s all a learning experience! We understand that you want your little one listening intently and doing the right thing but that’s what our teachers are there for! When our teacher prompts your little ballerina to do something in class they are not only giving a reminder but also establishing a relationship with your star. Each time you correct them, the concentration is lost as they turn around to look at you. We want them to know that in class the teacher is the one they look toward for direction. It takes time, we know that, but if we can keep the communication between ballerina and teacher 11

(unless you are asked to step in) your tiny dancer will be a perfect little superstar in no time!

A dance program for primary school aged children. This new dance program by Tiny Tutus has been designed to teach correct technique and strong foundations, to give the young dancer a leg up into the world of performing arts. With a direct focus on performing, this program will see our young dancers showcase their talents at many local events throughout the year. Your little performer will be coached through ballet, jazz and contemporary by our incredible teaching staff and have access to videos, help sheets and much, much more.

To make the ballerinas you will need:  Wool  Cardboard  Scissors  Paint or Markers  Wooden Clothes Pins  A drinking glass (for tracing)

Step One: Paint hair, a leotard, and a face on your clothespin. If the kids are doing this, you might just want to get some vibrant paint pens or markers. It will make clean up easier.

Page 7 Step Two: Take a drinking glass and create a “donut” template on your cardboard. Cut out two identical cardboard circles for each ballerina. We used a cereal box out of the recycling bin for this – it was sturdy enough for the craft, but still easy to cut through.

Step Three: Place both “donuts” together, and wrap with wool until covered. If you want to make a striped skirt, consider changing wool colours partway through.

Step Four: Insert your painted clothespin into the centre of the wool-wrapped donuts. Using sharp scissors, cut the wool around the edges of the two cardboard donuts.

Step Five: Gently separate the two donuts – moving one towards the ballerina’s face and the other towards her feet. Tie a length of wool firmly around the ballerina’s waist (between the two separated cardboard donuts).

Step Six: Completely slide the donuts off of the ballerina. Fluff the tutu, trim any loose wool pieces, and start playing!

Ballet Shoe Bookmark You will need:  Pink Cardboard  White Cardboard  Hole punch  Pen or pencil  Pink ribbon  Scissors  Ballet shoe or little foot (for tracing)  Glue stick

Step One: Trace ballet shoe or little foot outline onto pink cardboard. If you are using your little ballerina’s foot, be sure to smooth the toes when tracing.

Step Two: Cut out shoe print.

Page 9 Step Three: Draw an oval shape onto the white cardboard and cut out. This is for the opening of the shoe and should be quite a bit smaller than the pink shape. Then glue the white cardboard into the centre of your shoe shape.

Step Four: Using the hole punch, make two holes on each side of the shoe. Try to make them as even as possible and about 2cm apart.

Step Five: Take a long piece of ribbon (length is up to you, but around 30cm works for a small foot) and thread it through the holes in a criss-cross pattern, just like threading shoe laces.

Step Six: Pull the ends of the ribbon until they are even and then tie into a bow.

We know it’s just the beginning on the year, but we are so tutu excited about our

2015

Recitals

Our Tiny Tutus Recitals are a lovely performance opportunity for beautiful little dancers who are just at the very beginning of their dancing ‘career’. They are a lovely, stress-free chance to put on a beautiful costume tutu and dance on a magical stage in front of family and friends. In term 3, our ballerinas will begin to learn a dance. This dance will be a combination of steps taught in term 3 and previous terms. Learning a routine is a wonderful way for ballerinas to have a goal to strive towards.

On the day of the recital, your Tiny Tutus class teacher will be there on the side of stage (or on stage if required) to guide your ballerina as necessary. Some classes may be able to perform more independently than others; some classes may need more on stage guidance than others…but it doesn’t matter! Each ballerina is also welcome to have a parent backstage with them!

Unlike most dance studios, our Tiny Tutus recitals are only 45 minutes long, so Daddy’s don’t worry, there won’t be a chance for you to fall asleep. Every single ballerina receives a beautiful handpicked, age appropriate tutu that needs no sewing, sequinning or trimming. We also do not require makeup, we think your little princesses are perfect just the way they are. All of our recitals and rehearsal are during the day so no tired little bodies.

Little Ballet Helpers Tips and tricks for your little ballerina

Five must-haves for your ballet class 1. Ballet shoes Ballet shoes are an important part of ballet class, they support little feet and prevent slipping and sliding. It is very important that they are done up correctly and it’s not a myth - Ballet shoes do not have a left and right foot! 2. Stockings Did you know that ballet stockings aren’t just fashionable? For the professional dancer stockings help to warm muscles quicker and hold heat for longer. They also promote circulation and show muscle definition. 3. Tiny Tutus Uniform Tutu Did you know the word tutu comes from the French children’s word meaning “bottom”. Tutus have evolved for centuries beginning with long floor length dresses gradually getting shorter and shorter to show off all the technical work they were doing. 4. Hair in a bun We know it can be difficult to get those whispy bits back into a bun but it is very important for class. Having your little ballerina’s hair flopping all over the place is distracting for her and we want to do all we can to keep her attention 5. Water Staying hydrated is extremely important even in colder weather. Even though our classes only run for 30-40minutes it is still a good idea to bring a water bottle to class. Catching bubbles is very tiring work!
