Owego Strawberry Festival June 14 and 15
The 39th Annual Strawberry Festival will celebrate “Strawberry Legends” as the theme for this year’s event, which kicks off on Friday, June 15, with a Block Party from 5:00 to 10:00 pm, with fireworks at 10 pm, and on Saturday, June 16, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm in downtown Owego.
For the main event on Saturday, the streets in Owego will be filled with vendors and entertainment. With the annual parade stepping off at 10:00 am. Over 20 bands on 4 stages will perform throughout the festival. Street performers will bring their talents to festivalgoer’s in a display of true public entertainment. There will be vendors, children’s activities, face painters, a pageant for children, and much more. A schedule of events can be found at www.owego.org.

Girl Scout’s Project Helps Nichols Remember its Heroes The First Nichols Hometown Heroes Banner Celebration was held on Saturday, May 25, on the lawn of the Cady Library in Nichols. The Hometown Heroes Banners honor local veterans by installing banners along the village streets which display the veteran’s photo and lists the veteran’s name, rank, branch of service, and
years of service. The project is part of the Girl Scout Gold Award Project of Veronica Ricketson (pictured) of Troop 40993. Twenty banners are now installed in Nichols. The veterans honored on the banners are: Howard K. Baker, Brent E. Beckwith, Bryan Cole, Joshua Cole, Richar P. Edsall, Richard C. Godfrey Sr., James A. Gowan Jr., William Grau, Karen L. Herrala, Wayne R. Horton, Wesley A. Middleton, Earl W. Olmstead, Joseph Olmstead, Richard W. Olmstead, Lawrence R. Pelotte Sr., Frank R. Sherman, Bill Shipman, Mi-
