WORD OF LIFE

“An old Irish proverb says, ‘It is in the shelter of each other that the people live.’ Indeed, we are created to depend upon one another and walk together in suffering. But when family members or friends approach life's end, we may not know how best to ‘shelter’ them. Here are some concrete ways we can compassionately care for them: usccb.org/end of life care.”

"All things are possible for God" Mark 10:27

This may be one of the most inspiring and uplifting sentences in the entire Bible, yet how many times have we doubted it. Time and again I meet people who find out they've been diagnosed with a serious illness or face the loss of a job, home or some other terrible hardship. I offer to pray with them, and have never been refused, and they always greatly appreciate the prayers, especially when we pause to pray in that immediate moment. Yet I wonder how many of us walk away wondering if God will or can answer that prayer, if indeed all things are possible for God.

The Evil One sows the seeds of doubt, mistrust and deceit in our hearts. As the wiley serpent said to Eve in the Garden: "Did God really say that?" (Genesis 3:1). He does the same to us: God says all things are possible to Him, but can he really take care of THIS situation? Of course He can, and He will in trust! This is the "spirit of wisdom" we seek in the first reading from Wisdom 7 today, the wisdom to trust that God can and does what He says.

The 4th chapter of Hebrews reminds us that the "Word of God is living and effective" (Heb 4:12). What God says, is. Who better to truat than the One who made everything out of nothing by His very Word?

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam: To the Greater Glory of God.

Father Kevin

PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING

The Parish Pastoral Council will meet on Wednesday, October 27th, at 5:00PM in the Rectory. All members are encouraged to attend.

FALL FUND RAISER INFORMATION

After discussion & careful consideration we have decided the best course of action for us to take is to postpone our usual fall fund raiser, the Pot of Gold Party. With the ever changing Covid 19 rates, we don’t want to put anyone at risk in the closed environment of the Hall. We hope that by spring we will be in a better place. It will also be easier to plan an outdoor event for spring.

“FALL SWEEPSTAKES” & OTHER CHANCES

We are in the process of putting together a “Fall Sweepstakes Raffle”. A few nice prizes have been donated already, but we are looking for additional prizes. If you have something you would like to donate, or if you would like to donate money towards a prize, please contact Kay at the Rectory (570 553 2288) or Mary Butler (570 553 2199), as soon as possible.

DONATIONS FOR BASKET O’CHEER

A very nice donation for a basket of cheer has been given by Harold Curley’s family in his memory. Additional donations of IRISH libations or monetary donations are being sought in order to put together an IRISH “Basket O’ Cheer”. If you would like to make a donation, please put it in the collection basket in a marked envelope or mail it to the Rectory. If you have a bottle of Irish Cream or Irish Whiskey that you would like to donate, you can leave them in the back of the Churches. Thank you for your help & generosity
