Between the end of September and December is the time of year that more people are working than any other. Summer is well and truly over, nobody is off skiing, taking spring breaks or much else in the way of holidays. Leaving us really just to concentrate on work, education and keeping warm.

How to make your child a millionaire Raising children costs a small fortune (it’s currently estimated at around £200,000), but if you’re clever, you could help them to become millionaires.

Here are a few ways to make your child rich.

Pensions for babies Pensions are a great taxeffective way to invest for your new offspring.

Stakeholders Probably the easiest type of pension to take out for your baby (or child of any age for that matter) is the Stakeholder pension. These products were initially set up to give those on little or no income the chance to add to a pension, however anyone is allowed to set one up which means that a child’s legal guardian(s) can start a pension for newborns.

You can pay in up to £2,880 each tax year, which is then topped up by a government taxback incentive to £3,600. You can stop and start contributions as you wish, so if your cash situation changes you won’t be penalised for it. The minimum amount you can pay in at any time is £20.

Anyone can add to it so grandparents, aunties and uncles can all chip in over the child’s life time. If the full amount is paid each year, by the time the child is 55 they will have well over £700,000 and if they access the account at 70 they will have over £1.8 million.

The money invested won’t be accessible until the child reaches 55 meaning they can’t blow it all when they

hit 18. Once they start working, they can also contribute. They will receive tax benefits if their income is less than £130,000.

SiPPs You can also set up a Selfinvested Personal Pension (SiPP) for your little one. Like a Stakeholder, they are open to anyone but the difference here is that you manage the money in it. So instead of leaving it to a pension fund to decide what to invest in, you choose the products yourself, whether it be shares, bonds, commercial property or other things.

Junior ISAs Junior ISAs are a great way to save for your child from an early age. ISAs are savings accounts which allow you to deposit a maximum of £3,600 a year completely tax-free, attracting interest as well.

The downside (or upside depending on how you see it) is that your child has access to the money when they’re 18.

Should you contribute the maximum amount each year, the fund could grow to a whopping £64,800 plus interest by the time they reach 18. This could be used towards university, buying their first car, putting a deposit down on a home or paying for a wedding.

You can put the money into either a cash ISA or a stocks

the cheapest version of what you want to buy.

Give them pocket money and set up a savings account for them, showing them how their money can grow over time. and shares one. As your child has a good few years for the fund to grow, you could afford to put the money into a stocks and shares ISA, at least for the first 13 years and then, perhaps, move the money gradually into cash for the last 5 to hold onto gains.

The only snag with a Junior ISA is that if you were eligible for a Child Trust Fund you can’t open a Junior ISA. And unlike the CTF, there will be no government cash contributions to each child’s savings pot.

Junior ISAs are available to children living in the UK who aren’t currently holders of a

Child Trust Fund which includes children born on or after 3 January 2011 and those under 18 born before September 2002.

Teaching your child about money

There are lots of ways to give your child the tools he or she needs to learn the basics of budgeting, spending and saving wisely. Go to pfeg.org for downloadable financial education guides that will help.

A sure-fire of making your child a millionaire, or at least comfortably off, is to teach her how to manage her money early on.

Remember, it doesn’t matter how much money your child has later on, if she knows how to live below her means and save for her future she will never be poor.

Start as soon as they can toddle round the supermarket with you. Ask them to tell you the numbers on the price labels and then, later, run round finding

Fun fact: On average, parents are putting savings of £42.45 aside a month for each child.

It’s Where the Others Fall Down!

When your fence is damaged by weather, or even just deteriorates through age, it’s expensive and troublesome to maintain or replace it. Chances are you’ll have mature plants hindering access, and digging up the ground may damage the roots of your precious shrubs.

As we come into the autumn, you can be pretty much guaranteed that we are going to see some ‘lively’ weather in the coming months. According to MetOffice statistics October and January are the two gustiest months of the year in this area, closely followed by March, then November, December and February. And if there’s one part of your property that doesn’t like wind it’s your garden fence.

So, if you are going to do a replacement, you need it to last. This is where a new breed of boundary fencing comes into its own.

HAMPSHIRE WALKS

Exton Walk Walk Distance approx 6.5 miles from the Shoe Inn Exton lies just off the A32 Droxford to West Meon road in the Meon Valley. Park in the Shoe Inn (SO32 3NT) car park located on Shoe Lane. Authorisation to park is required (01489 877526). Alternatively, drive through the village almost back to the A32 and park in the small lay-by opposite the entrance to Manor Farm.

This walk is described from the Shoe Inn. On leaving the pub, turn left towards the church, follow the lane through the village for 200 yards to a ‘T’ junction and turn right.

Keep straight on until you join the main A32. Cross the road onto a footpath signed “No through road”.

Cross a footbridge over the Meon River. Trace this path for around 400 yards and with barns in front of you and a path joining from the left, turn left along the signed ‘South Downs Way’.

Cross a section of wooden duckboards and walk along the narrow footpath between hedge and tree lined fields that narrows down to a gully and climbs steadily for some 600 yards. *Climb some wooden steps up to the disused railway track bed and turn left; walkers and cyclists can be seen heading up from the right from Wickham. Beacon Hill on your left and Old Winchester 12

Hill on your right are occasionally glimpsed through the trees.

Keep going straight for approximately 1200 yards ignoring other paths and tracks until you descend onto a minor road. Cross the road and climb the opposite bank to return to the track bed.

Continue along the track for a further 1800 yards until it passes under a road bridge. Access to this road is by walking further along to a footpath joining from the left for another 200 yards then turning left back on yourself up the slope to the road above.

Turn left and walk along the road past Hayden Barn Cottage on the left. The road climbs steadily

uphill for some 600 yards.

Approaching the top of the hill, turn right onto a gravel track signed ‘Peake Farm’ and also signed as Monarch’s Way. Follow this track towards the farm for a good 1000 yards. At a left hand bend, ignore the track going straight on into a field. Follow the track around towards the farm, passing some fields with show jumping fences and stables for the local horses.

At the farm buildings, turn sharp right onto a waymarked footpath running between fields. The path emerges onto a metalled road to Peakes Farm.

Turn left at the road. Walk approximately 50 yards then turn right along the side of a barn.

Follow the path around the end of the barn and then along the left hand boundary of a field.

Turn left through a gateway at the field boundary to join a concrete and tarmac farm track.

Follow the signed path left along the right-hand boundary of a field, which switches half way up into a field requiring the walk to continue on the left hand edge. The path climbs steadily uphill, but offers some stunning views across mid Hampshire, Old Winchester Hill and surrounding areas.

At the top of the rise, turn left along the field fence line and follow the path as it turns right along the left hand side of the field.

At the end of the field, turn right onto the South Downs Way footpath leading away from Old Winchester Hill. The path meanders downhill alongside field boundaries with chalky conditions underfoot and some 1500 yards of twisting decent.

At the bottom of the hill, turn left into woodland.

Follow the path left ignoring paths merging from the right. *Climb some wooden steps to the railway track bed.

Cross straight over and descend more steps onto the footpath used on your outward journey (as shown in the dialogue marked).

Follow the footpath back to the A32, cross the road into Church Lane and retrace your steps back to your car.

HISTORICAL NOTE...

In 940 AD, the village of Exton carried the name of East Seaxnatune meaning the farmstead of the East Saxons.

The 13th century church of St Peter and Paul was heavily restored in 1847.

In 1801, the population of Exton was 224. By 1901 it had grown slightly to 299 persons but reduced again to 230 in 2001.

The Meon Valley railway line was opened for business in June 1903 to connect Alton to Fareham and Gosport. It was one of Hampshire’s least successful railway enterprises and closed in 1955.

Inspiring people to cycle

LOCAL GROUPS & CLUBS

Romsey Hares & Tortoises Bike Rides The CTC is the national cycling charity; it inspires and helps people to cycle and keep cycling. It encourages all types of cycling, on the road or off it.

It supports you if you already ride, or would like to ride, to work or school, for health, touring, sport and leisure – or just because it’s fun. Members of CTC South Hampshire range from those who like to ride 10-20 miles to those who ride Sportifs and events of over 1000km. Some members also enjoy touring in the UK and abroad.

Part of CTC Southampton, the Hares and Tortoises is a group for those who see themselves as hares who prefer to sleep in the sun, or determined tortoises.

The group meets at Palmerston’s statue, central Romsey at 10am on the 1st Saturday of each month for all-day ride, and at 2pm for tea-rides on 3rd Saturday of each month between April and October and starting at 1.30 pm from November to March.

Rides are led at an average pace of 9 to 10 mph.

Hills are ridden at each individuals’ own pace or walked if needed. All-day rides are about 35 to 40 miles and tea-rides about 17 to 25 miles. We lunch in a pub and the tea rides have a tea stop.

The People Behind Your Local Businesses Kay Murrant was feeling a little down after a family death, and a friend insisted on dragging her out to a flower arranging event at the local village hall. Little did she know at the time that this would lead to the start of a whole new way of life for Kay and her family.

Watching the flower arranging demo that night inspired me. I returned home to my husband and three boys determined to make the most of my life. I convinced my husband that with our youngest son going off to school, now was the perfect time to follow my passion of flowers.

I had always created floral arrangements for the family but started creating centre pieces for friends’ parties and special occasions, gradually building up my knowledge and confidence.

This could easily have been enough to keep me busy (my husband certainly hoped so) but pre-family I had run my own sign writing business and I knew I could do more. I was fortunate that I had been able to be a full time mother while the boys were babies, but now I needed to do something for me.

So, I enrolled on an intensive floristry course in London, run by world renowned florist Jane Packerand so began the arduous daily commute to London. The long days proved a swift and steep learning curve for us all (my husband and sons had to master the oven, washing machine and vacuum cleaner!)

The course taught me to became more aware of the importance of seasonal flowers and foliage, through to the complexity of wiring full shower bridal bouquets.

Newly qualified I set up Pomp and Petals, creating a studio and website, slowly building my reputation for a bespoke design service. I feel truly privileged to provide flowers for weddings and only take on one wedding per day to ensure first class service.

I then ran a successful Christmas Wreath Making workshops and now I regular run floral workshops throughout the year. I really enjoy passing on skills and sharing my love of flowers and take great satisfaction in seeing happy people take home their own floral creations, inspired to try further designs at home.

I feel so lucky to be able to follow my passion and look forward to many years of making people smile. After all who doesn't love receiving flowers, although sadly this is no longer a pleasure I experience myself: my husband says how can he possibly buy me flowers now!

Each workshop include all materials, coffee on arrival and a light lunch at the end of the class. Workshops are from 10.30am to 1.00pm.

The popular saying “whatever floats your boat” is very apt after my recent excursion on SS Shieldhall from Southampton’s Eastern Doc. And the other “Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.” also applies as it was far more enjoyable than anticipated! On Friday 9 August I boarded this ship with family and my father in law who is a ship and train fanatic, so a day out on this heritage cargo-passenger ship during Cowes Week was his perfect birthday treat.

SS Shieldhall was built in the Clyde Shipyards and launched there 1955. She had a long and successful first career with Glasgow Corporation carrying treated sludge out to sea and, in the summer, taking passengers ‘doon the watter’ on pleasure trips, despite its cargo! Bought in 1977 by Southern Water she was finally withdrawn from commercial service in 1985 but saved and purchased for £20,000 in 1988 by The Solent Steam Packet Ltd that still operates

her now. TSSP is a charity, registered as an Industrial and Provident Society, with its main objective being to preserve the SS Shieldhall in operational condition. She is maintained and operated entirely by volunteers and resides in Southampton’s Eastern Docks.

TSSP was recently awarded a £1.4 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund South East.

TSSP MD, Graham Mackenzie said: “This grant means that in addition to her silver anniversary, we can look forward to celebrating her ‘golden anniversary’ too. We look forward to all the hard work that lies ahead, safe in the knowledge that Shieldhall is, and will continue to be, ‘Alive and Steaming.’ However, Graham points out that the award represents just the start of saving Shieldhall: ‘It is critical that support for the ship continues through our programme involving volunteers, members, donors, events and functions. We’d

be delighted to welcome anyone who would like to support and get involved in the project.’

Stuart McLeod, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund South East, said: “SS Shieldhall is part of the National Historic Fleet and is a fantastic surviving example of its kind. Through helping secure Shieldhall’s future the project will open up opportunities for young people to learn the skills needed to operate a ship of this type, and for the volunteers to reach out into the local community, encouraging engagement with one of the country’s most important maritime heritage assets, such as the Scouts Training Days this summer.”

We set “sail” at 11am and headed for the Solent where it is confined until necessary structural work is carried out and it holds the necessary certificate to go further afield. However, with Cowes Week in full flow there was plenty of action on the water and time flew by. With a bar and light snacks for refreshments we enjoyed lunch in the sun on deck.

On tour of the bridge I met Southampton’s Harbour Pilot but they refrained, wisely, from giving me free rein at the helm! The engine and boiler rooms were well worth a visit, despite the heat. I learned it takes three days to fire the burners to “steam ready” level and 17.2 tonnes of oil are stored in port and starboard bunkers, used to “level” the ship. In their heyday, tramp steamships used to burn 26 tonnes A DAY so we were lightly loaded in comparison. My father in law was right. “C’mon, Melanie, you’ll regret not seeing these magnificent machines in motion.” And as usual, he was absolutely right.

A Week With A Legend: Driving 911 HUL I’d been looking forward to this moment for years. For some in the office too young to remember, it meant nothing – but for me it was a coming of age. Finally I’d be driving a Porsche with the famous 911 HUL number plate.

I’ve been a motoring nut for years, spending money I often didn’t have on car magazines, long before I could even drive. And it was on those glossy pages that I became familiar with the famous plate. Owned by Porsche GB for decades it was the first private plate the firm acquired and ever since has taken pride of place on the Porsche press fleet Turbo models.

I’d seen it flying through the air in pictures on the pages of Evo, shot by countless talented car snappers over the years, and now it was my time to drive it. Here’s my week behind the wheel of Porsche’s fastest 997 edition – the 911 Turbo S with a very special moniker.

Day One It’s only you that cares – shouted one pre-pubescent member of the team as I explained, to yet another 911 admirer who clearly didn’t share my enthusiasm for six numbers and letters, what the plate meant to car fans. Most people were more interested in the colour our test car had arrived 28

in. Paint jobs make or break cars and the camouflage green our test car had arrived in was clearly splitting opinion.

Still, it could have been painted pink for all I cared as what was sitting over the rear wheels was far more of interest to me. The 3.8-litre, turbo-charged lump produces a whopping 530bhp and 700Nm of torque thanks to a tweaked turbo output. The drive north to our photoshoot at Rockingham was one of the longest (traffic) but most enjoyable I’ve ever had.

Day Two Photoshoot day at Rockingham and we’ve got 15 cars lined up for a series of tests. Also here is three times British superbike championship winner John Reynolds on the latest Suzuki GSX-R1000. He’s at our shoot to take on the Nissan Juke R (search for the video on YouTube) but it’s only fair we let him try his luck against the Porsche too…

With a 0-60mph sprint time of 3.1 seconds, the PDK automatic gearbox and launch control system mean that’s very achievable every time. Engage Sport Plus, floor the throttle with your foot on the brake, and the revs settle at a heady rpm. When you lift off the brake the car thunders towards the finish line

in a cacophony of air sucking, turbo whooshing and tyres ripping chunks out of the asphalt. All I have to do is steer.

Day Three Two tanks of fuel into the loan and I’m impressed the Turbo S is returning 26mpg. My old Focus ST never got any better than 23mpg on a long journey and considering this has such an almighty power output that’s very impressive. Today I’m heading into London for a meeting with the Queen. Well, I say meeting, I really mean a concert in her garden for the Coronation Festival.

For what is essentially a rival to a Ferrari 458 or McLaren 12C, the Turbo S is fantastically well behaved in the clogged up capital. Visibility is excellent and although it’s got a low splitter at the front, speed humps aren’t really a problem nor tight underground and overpriced car parks.

The drive back south is a magical one. London’s streets are a joy in the small hours of the morning and each traffic light gives me a chance to test the wife’s neck muscles.

Day Four-Six It’s the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Porsche is headlining the

event, celebrating 50 years of the 911, and I can’t quite believe I’ve got the honour of driving 911 HUL to the south coast celebration of combustion.

It’s clear on the way there and back that the plate doesn’t just hold sway with me. I lose count of the number of phones I see trained on the Porsche, capturing pictures for tweets and status updates.

Day Seven Another business trip north

beckons and my colleague and I decide to leave after the evening’s rush hour. Gosport to Chester – some 250 miles – lay ahead and even at 9pm the digital temperature gauge is reading 25 degrees C. Hot tarmac and sticky tyres make the trip a delight as we collect the cast and extras of Bug’s Life on the bonnet. The seats get a little uncomfortable over long distance – they’re fixed carbon fibre jobs – but apart from that the Turbo S is a competent tourer.

It’s time for 911 HUL to return to Porsche. After a week behind the wheel of the monster I’m smitten. Yes, the ride is firm and the tyre noise a little intrusive.

cosseting and the 997 interior is showing its age now the 991 has arrived.

However, never have I driven a car quite so intoxicating, quite so full of character and quite so mind-alteringly fast as the Turbo S. The fact it was wearing one of the most iconic plates in motoring folklore simply made the whole experience all the more special.

It’s Good to Talk More of us are open to the idea of seeking counselling to help us cope when life becomes complicated.

We go to the gym to feel good physically; we have massages to feel good holistically; so counselling can be thought of as a sort of ‘mind massage’, giving you the opportunity to let your words and emotions out without being judged.

The number of people accessing mental health services has risen steadily in recent years, yet not everyone will use NHS services.

You might decide to go private for a number of reasons - there may be a waiting list or a lack of availability in your area, for example.

“I started off by having counselling under the NHS, but this meant I couldn’t choose my counsellor. I didn’t really get on with her, and I wasn’t able to select what type of counselling therapy she followed,” said Samantha, 28 years’ old. “I decided that it was better to go down the private route.”

Taking control of your life Counselling can help you when you’re struggling to cope, whether it’s for depression, stress and anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, drug or alcohol misuse, bereavement, sexuality issues, or post-traumatic 34

disorder and there are many different types of counselling therapies.

There’s no shame in seeking further help; instead of seeing it as a weakness, it can be the first step towards taking control of your life and finding new strength, especially if you feel you have nobody close to confide in.

A counsellor won’t tell you what choices to make or offer you specific advice, but they will guide you and help you understand why you may be feeling a certain way.

Your first visit will give you and your therapist the opportunity to decide if you feel comfortable with each other and to talk about what you want to achieve from the sessions. Some sessions can even take place online, for example using Skype for video calls.

What makes a good counsellor?

A good counsellor should not judge or criticise you, but instead will focus on what you are saying in order to help you deal with your problems.

If you feel that things aren’t going the way you want them to, then you should discuss this with your counsellor first to see if anything can be improved before going to a new one. Regular sessions are also a good idea so that you can start to see a difference.

All counsellors are required to have supervision and counselling themselves as part of their training.

Payments and accreditation Fees can differ depending on the experience of the counsellor and the number of sessions you commit to.

Ensure that any health professional you go with is registered and approved. Chameleon Comedy For their October production, The Chameleons of Chandlers Ford will be staging “The Nightingales” a comedy set in the 1950’s. His parents, Charlie and Beatrice, are old Music Hall stars, full of hilarious tales of life on the road. The Goldcrest

Ray looked up warily from his newspaper at the Tupperware box in Audrey’s hands.

The thorns snagged his shirt and tore fine scratches on his arms and hands. Sticky juice stained his fingers and dripped down his wrists. The back of his neck was prickling in the hot sun, and reaching for the ripest berries was beginning to make his calves ache.

“I saw brambles covered in fruit on Glebe Lane yesterday. You know, opposite the pine woods.”

“I know where it is”, Ray muttered.

“I’m in the mood for jam making.”

“You can buy jam for a pound in the supermarket.”

Audrey sighs heavily, “You’re like a moody teenager. Go and fill this tub. The fresh air will do you good.”

Ray failed to see how picking blackberries could do anyone any good. The vicious thorns, the exploding fruit that stained everything it touched. Yet he was glad of an excuse to get out of the house. Audrey may have small feet but he was starting to get under them.

Retirement, he decided, didn’t suit him. He missed the busy office, the staff gossip and the last minute orders. Now every day felt the same, there was nothing new or remarkable to enjoy. He felt as though his fire had gone out.

This was why he found himself half an hour later stood on his tiptoes on a quiet lane picking 38

Then he heard a high pitched reedy whistle close by. He turned and peered into the dark shadows of the pine trees. He saw a flash of yellow as though someone had struck a match.

He put down the tub and stepped closer to the trees. A tiny bird, even smaller than a wren, hopped out of the shadows onto a branch.

Ray held his breath. It moved cautiously on fragile legs with charming jerky movements, like a delicate creature made of clockwork. It was exotically beautiful, on its back a shimmer of green feathers, and down its head two black stripes framing a bright golden cap.

A word popped into Ray’s head, a word he had not thought of since he was a boy looking through his father’s Spotter’s Guide.

“Goldcrest.” He whispered. He’d never seen one in real life.

The little bird pecked at the pine

needles with its sharp beak, searching for insects. It froze, as though suddenly aware of how exposed it had let itself become, gave another chirp and took flight, disappearing into the safety of the trees.

Ray let out his breath. He heard the bird call again, and another bird call back in reply, and then another. The woods sounded as though they were alive with Goldcrests.

Ray hastily put the lid on the half filled tub of blackberries and was back at home within ten minutes.

Audrey inspected the harvest as he rifled through the sideboard for his old binoculars.

“Well, I won’t be making much jam out of these”, she said in dismay.

“I’m going straight back, I’ll get you some more.” Ray called over his shoulder as he found what he was looking for. “Will that make you satisfied?”

Audrey looked at the scratches on Ray’s arms, the leaves in his hair and the berry stains on his fingers.

But most of all she saw the flush of colour in his cheeks and the sparkle in his eyes.

“Oh yes”, she said. “I think it will.”

This Month in History October 6th 1888: Edison patents the Kinetoscope October 6th 1927: Warner Bros release The Jazz Singer In the 1880s, inventors almost everywhere were trying to develop a more commercial variety of the magic lantern, which had been popular as a party novelty and fairground sideshow for generations. They mostly seem to have known what their competitors were up to, and if they heard of an idea they thought promising... they just stole it.

Take the Lumière brothers. Their combined camera and projector, the Cinématographe, was actually invented by Léon Bouly and when he couldn’t afford to renew the patent, the brothers took it for themselves. Furthermore an invention by Charles-Emile Reynaud - perforated celluloid film – was also appropriated by the brothers despite a patent being in force. They showed their first film, the 49-second long Workers Leaving the Factory, in December 1895.

By 1895, though, the great American inventor Thomas Edison had already been cheerfully profiting from other people’s ideas for seven years. In February 1888 he was approached by the English photographer Eadweard (no, really!) Muybridge with the idea of mounting stills on a phonograph cylinder. Edison told Muybridge it was impractical, and on 6th October filed a 46

pre-emptive patent for the idea of – guess what – mounting stills on a phonograph cylinder. The Kinetoscope wasn’t that practical, though; the breakthrough came the following year when Eastman Kodak patented celluloid film on reels. Even Edison couldn’t steal from Kodak.

Kinetoscope films had to be watched one viewer at a time on a peep-show device, the Kinetograph – basically a What the Butler Saw machine – developed

by Edison technician William Dickson, who wasn’t above a bit of plagiarism himself. Dickson was approached by an inventor called Woodville Latham for advice on making the Eidoloscope, which projected the pictures on to a proper screen. Dickson took the idea, rechristened it the Mutoscope, and set up his own company. Edison hit back with Projectoscope, which was essentially the same idea, and the movie industry was born.

39 years later, moviegoers at the Warner Theatre in Times Square, New York, were stunned to hear Al Jolson say: “Wait a minute! Wait a minute! You ain’t heard nothing yet!” Jolson was a major star of musical theatre, and plenty of the guests at that evening’s premiere were more than familiar with the sound of his voice. But this was a

movie – The Jazz Singer – and it was the first custom-made talkie in history. It was a sensation.

Warner Brothers had been developing the Vitaphone for some time and on October 7th 1926, released a recording of part of Jolson’s stage act. The Vitaphone was pretty crude: as each scene was filmed the dialogue was simply recorded onto a 16-inch shellac disc, and if the cinema projectionist dropped the needle on to the right place at the right time, then sound and motion were synchronised. But after just 20 plays the disc became impossibly scratched. RCA’s Photophone sound-on-film system was already well-advanced by the time The Jazz Singer came out and was officially launched the following year, making Warner’s Vitaphone obsolete almost overnight. So were silent movies: within two years of The Jazz Singer’s New York premiere, every studio in Hollywood was making only talkies.

Finally, supporting an idea that October could be Movie Month: on 5th October 1962 the world first heard Sean Connery utter the immortal line: “My name ish Bond – Jamesh Bond.” The movie was Dr No, and if that’s not worth raising a vodka martini to, nothing is.
