Bill Bailey Limboland at The Mayflower Theatre 13 - 14 May “Life in Limboland, consistently funny and dazzlingly quick.” Sydney Morning Herald The gap between how we imagine our lives to be and how they really are is the subject of Bill’s new show Limboland. With his trademark intelligence and sharp wit, he tells tales of finding himself in this halfway place. From his countless global travels, he recounts the hilarious saga of a disastrous family trip to Norway to see the Northern Lights. He rails against a world that doesn’t match up to our expectations and contemplates the true nature of happiness. And no Bill Bailey show would be complete without music, so we have Bill’s version of the protest song, a heart-rending country and western ballad played on a Bible, and a fabulously downbeat version of Happy Birthday. The Power of Walking Until recently, I’ve managed to keep the middle age spread fairly under control but since I stopped running due to my knees and hips protesting, I would probably be described by a stranger as “pleasantly plump”. So, in a bid to stop and reverse the situation I stepped up a gear when walking my dog and what a difference a bit of power makes. I now burn a respectable number of calories, start the day feel energised and I’m beginning to see the benefits of toning; all without those familiar aches and pains. I can’t say Dempsey enjoys this change of pace; we used to saunter along, I’d throw, he’d chase and we often casually stopped to have a chat with other walkers. But needs must, so he’ll have to get used to it (at least until I drop a dress size!). The advantage of having a dog is, of course, it gives purpose to walking. But not everyone has a dog. This leads to me share a website I discovered called www. borrowmydoggy.co.uk which matches dogs who love walking with dog-less people who love dogs and walking but are dog-less, for a variety of very good reasons. Dempsey is registered on the site and is safely “borrowed” on a regular basis. I think it’s a terrific idea!

You can be a Mumpreneur like me! Kate Bickford worked in News for the BBC. She absolutely loved her job and never thought she would do anything else. She found that as the children got older, she spent more time at work than at home. Working in News meant freelancing, so if Kate didn’t work, she didn’t get paid. Whilst happy with her chosen job, the income was becoming increasingly unpredictable. Kate initially said ‘No’ to Forever but decided to look into it in more detail. At first she was incredibly sceptical and thought perhaps she would be going back to the BBC with a story! Instead she found herself a solution. Now 9 years on, she is in a position to be
able to help her son and daughter go through university. Kate isn’t the ‘package holiday’ kind of girl and instead craves adventures. She and her daughter were able to go to Thailand in June last year to volunteer with an elephant project and on the way back dropped into Dubai where she combined business with pleasure. Whilst there, she worked for 5 days and her husband flew out to have some ‘Daddy/Daughter’ time which is very precious. They also had a couple of weeks in France in August at their chalet in the mountains. Kate had never ever thought she’ be able to say that she has an international business and is really excited to see the team in the UK and beyond continue to develop.
I can show you how to earn £500 - £1000 per month from home How would you feel if you could work from home around your children? No more struggling to balance a job and parenting. Now that would feel amazing.
"Mummy, could we go to the zoo today" ?
Yes, we can.
If you are spending most of your salary on childcare, I have a better way.

West End Carnival OlĂĄ, como via? As they say in down in sunny Brazil (Hi how are you?) West End Carnival Association are excited to announce the 2016 Carnival, being held on Saturday, 18th of June. The theme is RIO, home of one of the most vibrant Carnivals in the world, and this year host to the 2016 Olympics. The West End Carnival Association will bring you a taste of the Fun and the Games, in a mash up of both. So, Carnival costume or Olympic sports, take your pick, but just be prepared for a fun packed time. The procession makes its way through the village from 1.00PM ending up at Hatch Grange, where everyone can enjoy the Carnival atmosphere, from 2.00PM, with arena displays, stalls, food and drink, a Dog show and much more. In the week running up to the Big day and on the day, there are events and competitions galore, including a quiz night, West End walk, Live Music, Shop window competition, best allotment and garden competitions. The organisers are also looking for local acts, (School groups, Dance, Choir etc.), who would be prepared to perform as part of the Arena events or take part in the parade. Last year the Carnival managed to raise and make awards totalling ÂŁ6000 to local Charities and not for profit organisations. The aim is to beat that this year, and that requires your help! Could you be a sponsor for the Carnival? Donations of prizes are also needed for the popular Prize Draw. If you have a local business, why not advertise in the Carnival Brochure, or arrange a pitch at Hatch Grange. Wanted! Carnival King or Queen and two princes or princesses and Maids of honour or Page boys, who will be treated like royalty obviously. More details can be found on the website. www.westendcarnival.moonfruit.com Follow us on Twitter - @westendcarnival Facebook - West End Carnival - Offical Site or email: westendcarnival@hotmail.co.uk 12

INTERVIEW
Newton Faulkner Newton Faulkner has been a part of the music scene for over a decade and has returned in 2016 with a new album ‘Human Love’. He caught up with The Breeze Classic Countdown presenter, Mark Franklin, to talk family, late nights and dancing. Ten years have almost passed now. You’ve had major success. How have you found the last decade? It’s been a huge amount of fun. I’ve had a great time. I’ve either been touring or making a record – and that’s pretty much all that I’ve done for the last ten years. You had a child. I was making a record whilst that happened!
You’ve been touring with your brother. Has it been like a ten year partnership with you both? Oh longer. We were writing well before the first album. How do you find being an artist with a young family as well? It’s late nights all round. You just get used to it. I’m generally up between 7 and 8, whatever’s going on. You don’t like a nice lie in? I just can’t do it! It’s an age thing! I remember when I was eighteen, I could sleep till one o’clock in the afternoon. Now I’m lucky if I can make it past 8 o’clock. I can still handle it! Let’s talk about the new album. It’s called Human Love. In terms of the overall feel, compared to the last album, this feels a lot more uplifting. Yeah well the last one was incredibly depressing – so that’s probably why! <laughs> It was a bad time and I decided to document it quite accurately whereas this one is at a time where everything is good. Sometimes you write from the inside coming out (what you feel), and sometimes you write because it’s how you need to feel.
Stage School? I had no idea! Yeah well it was from the ages of 11 to 16. That was a very long time ago. I worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company on I think about four occasions! I was in Richard The Third, although I didn’t realise how much dancing would be involved which I had shied away from until relatively recently. Check out the video to ‘Up Up & Away’ (the new single) because it’s like a running, dancing video! I would love to blame someone else for it but it was my idea! You tend to run in real life too – in some of the areas that feature in the video? It’s actually my route! I came up with the idea for the video when I was checking mixes for the album. I realised it was just the right speed, started throwing in a few moves just for my amusement – and pretty much saw the whole video in my head.
Like therapy? Yeah definitely. There’s a huge amount of that going on. I’ve only recently found out that you’re an alumni of Italia Conti
The Breeze Classic Countdown, presented by Mark Franklin, can be heard on The Breeze, Saturdays from 11am. Find out more at www.thebreeze.com.
Don’t be misled when buying your new kitchen Quali

. Convenience . Choice . Service
You’ve all seen the advertisements for ½ price kitchens, free appliances and all the extra “Bells and Whistles” some companies offer. Well don’t believe everything you see, as they say… If it’s too good to be true then it probably isn’t true!
And that’s because the installation costs they charge can almost double the price of your kitchen. We at Ashmore Kitchens, being a small independent family run business, do not make such claims, nor do we charge extortionate prices to install your kitchen. Our small team of designers and installers offer a complete design, supply and installation service at a fraction of the price of other companies. We do not compromise on quality either, all our kitchens are manufactured in the UK, using only the very best components and suppliers. So before you commit to spending more than you intended, call us for a FREE, all inclusive quotation NOW! We’re sure that you will get a pleasant surprise. Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Justin Friel feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving
people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Eastleigh & Hedge End areas and Justin is finding that his approach
is a major factor in his success.‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done
work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Justin a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

BEAUTY
Spring is in the air By Kate Duggan www.kateduggan.co.uk
Spring is a great time to clear out the makeup bag (or overflowing cupboard in my case) and treat yourself to a few new goodies.
How pretty is this new palette from Paul & Joe? Teaming an eye shadow duo with a powder blush, the palette is available in two shades: Papillons de Printemps and Floral Nectar (pictured). Retailing at £28 each, they’re not cheap, but the colours are easy to apply and you’ll be the envy of the other bathroom mirror hoggers on a night out. If you really want to splash out, Paul & Joe have also released some new lipsticks, in three vibrant spring shades. Many people find that they need to buy a new foundation for spring/summer, as their skin loses its winter hibernation paleness. (Or that’s my excuse anyway.) The new Aqua Glow Serum Foundation by Stila combines foundation with a treatment serum. It gives great, natural looking coverage, while hydrating and softening skin. 94% of testers reported dramatically improved skin tone. If you can’t wait to take your makeup off at the end of the day because your face feels dry and uncomfortable, you need to try this foundation. It
24
contains hyaluronic acid and other ingredients that help to keep skin hydrated for up to 12 hours after applying it. Available in 10 shades, the Aqua Glow Serum Foundation retails at £34.50. If your hair is looking a little ‘meh’, but there’s still weeks to go until your next trip to the salon, try a KC Color Mask. Available in 14 shades, including platinum, golden copper, plum and
coffee, these masks revitalise coloured hair. A small amount helps to maintain the hair colour and add brightness, while a larger amount can
deepen the colour intensity. Just apply to freshly washed hair, comb through, leave for up to ten minutes and wash out. They’re particularly useful for toning down brassy tones in blonde hair, and giving depth to darker shades. The masks also contain Pro-Vitamin B5 and keratin derivative, to help repair the cuticle. Prices start from under £5. Spring demands a lighter, fresher fragrance, and Yardley London has just released the perfect one. English Daisy is reminiscent of a wildflower meadow – floral, but not too
sweet. It’s unashamedly girly, with notes including hyacinth and white rose, warmed with sandalwood and musk. And, at just £19.99 for 50ml, it’s a bit of a bargain. Team it with the English Daisy body lotion, £6.50 and embrace the warmer weather.
& Light Organic’s Essential Family on-the-Go Cream. It’s packed with plant-derived vitamins, and helps to treat everything from insect bites and bruises to eczema. The 18 natural active ingredients include soothing calendula, hydrating shea butter and nourishing avocado. Priced at £15, it’s available from www.pureandlightorganic.eu and www.lovelula.co.uk.
I’m finding that the sun’s reappearance means it’s a lot easier to drag the kids out for a walk (although it’ll be a while before we’re out of our wellies I reckon). Along with wet wipes and plasters, the one thing I always take with me is Pure

Help I Haven’t Got A Will! One of the most important documents you will sign is your will and making a will should not be overlooked or avoided. Why use a solicitor? Using an unregulated and uninsured will writer may result in a badly drafted will, with hidden charges, poor tax planning, estates being subject to the rigid rules of intestacy and vulnerable beneficiaries at risk of financial abuse, loss of benefits or without adequate provision from their parents’ estate. Solicitors are regulated and act in accordance with their professional rules. You need to know what to expect when using the services of a solicitor which is why we will provide you with accurate information about what we will do for you and how much you will pay for our services. Our fees must be agreed with you before any work is carried out on your behalf. At Driver Belcher Solicitors we have a specialist team who are highly qualified in the preparation of wills and all other aspects of your personal legal affairs.
Why should I make a Will? • you decide who benefits from your money and possessions after your death • you avoid the Rules of Intestacy • you choose who you want to administer your estate i.e. your Executors • you can avoid family arguments and expense by making everything clear • you can maximise any reliefs from Inheritance Tax that are available to you • peace of mind What should I do if I already have a Will? You ought to review your will every three to five years. Simple changes like a change of address do not mean you have to rewrite your will. Significant events for example getting married, starting a family or inheriting money ought to prompt you to review or rewrite your will. For more information contact Jenny Walker on 01489 892101 or by email: jwalker@driverbelcher.co.uk.

In Search of a Family Solicitor? More often that not, the decision that you need to instruct a solicitor can be tough enough in itself. Then you need to choose a solicitor, or at least consider meeting with one to see if you could work together. But where to start? The gauntlet of Google?! The minefield is perhaps further complicated when you need advice in relation to a family issue, whether this be divorce, separation, or a dispute regarding the arrangements for your children. In those circumstances, the instruction of a solicitor becomes more personal. It’s your life in their hands after all. Solicitors at Trethowans specialising in Family Law are all members of a body known as Resolution. This organisation is comprised of lawyers committed to the constructive resolution of family disputes. Members follow a Code of Practice that promotes
a non-confrontational approach to family problems. Moreover, at Trethowans we encourage solutions that consider the needs of the whole family and in particular the best interests of children. We appreciate, no matter your family issue, that this will be a difficult time for you. At Trethowans we pride ourselves in considering your unique circumstances very carefully and to tailoring advice, taking into account your priorities and particular concerns. With Trethowans, you will feel confident in your choice. Your solicitor will listen. They will advise. They will assist you in finding the fairest and best solution. Kate Stovold is a Solicitor at Trethowans LLP. She is a member of Resolution, specialising in Family Law, and would be very happy to assist with any family related queries. To arrange a thirty minute Free Initial Consultation at the Trethowans office in Hedge End, please call her on 023 8082 0511.

GARDENING
Go On, Grow Your Own! Enjoying a delicious meal which includes some home grown ingredients is a wonderful feeling – it fills you full of just the right sort of pride (and maybe even a little bit of smugness!). It simply feels good to indulge in a bit of Grow Your Own and then reap the rewards.
You may well have been sowing and potting on vegetables for a while now, but if you’re behind schedule or haven’t produced vegetables before, don’t panic – there’s still time to grow just about any crop in your plot this year. Most plants can be raised from seed now, but there are a few that are likely to give a much better yield with an earlier start. Instead, buy in plants of crops such as tomatoes, sweet peppers, chilli peppers, melons and aubergines over the next month or so. Some vegetables can be directly sown now into wellprepared garden soil in a suitable spot in all but the coolest gardens – beetroot, lettuce, beans, peas, carrots, rocket, spinach to name but
34
a few. Slightly more tender crops such as sweetcorn, squash and courgettes fare better if given a bit of extra heat when you are germinating the seeds, which is where an electrically heated propagator really comes into its own. The seedlings may then need pricking out and potting on until they are sturdy enough to live in the great outdoors, but try to ‘harden off’ the young plants before placing them into their final positions as they may be damaged by cold, wind or rain. Put the young plants outside on warm days once the weather has stabilised, and bring them back under cover at night. Leave them outside after a week or so, covering them with fleece at night to let them acclimatise. To save time, you can buy in small plants and you will
get a good range from seed merchants or garden centres, but if you would like advice from me to ensure great results, don’t forget that you can still order garden-ready plants, accompanied by weekly advice and tips emails specific to the vegetables you’ve chosen to grow. There are more details at www. pippagreenwood.com/growyour-own and you can use the code 12419-E7SPS at the checkout to get £4.00 discount, whichever pack size you choose. Garden-ready
plants can be planted out immediately and, provided you follow the instructions, keep them well-watered during drier weather and apply feed at regular intervals, you will soon be harvesting crops such as climbing French and runner beans, tomatoes, sweetcorn, sugar-snap peas, peppers, chillies, onions, melons, butternut squash, beetroot and courgettes. Most vegetables need a good fertile soil and a sunny or
partly shaded spot, so choose your growing area with care. If space is limited, don’t worry – most vegetables will do well in good sized containers (minimum 30cm x 30cm x 30cm) with good-quality compost, though bigger pots will need less frequent watering. But, whether you plant and sow vegetables in pots, tubs, greenhouses or open ground, the end result will be gorgeous tasting, super-fresh vegetables. So go on, get growing!
Visit Pippa’s website www.pippagreenwood.com for ‘Grow Your Own with Pippa Greenwood’ - fantastic UK grown vegetable plants of your choice plus weekly advice and tips emails from Pippa (don’t forget your offer code 12419-E7SPS for a £4 discount), Nemaslug, biological controls, pop-up crop covers, signed books and lots more besides.

Open, honest, transparent Let’s put it out there in the open – the thought of buying a new kitchen IS stressful! Aside from buying a house, it may be the largest financial commitment you make and with the kitchen now being the heart of the home, it’s a room you cannot afford to get wrong! There are so many choices to make and the thought of building work in your house, quite understandably, puts people off! So is it that bad? It doesn’t need to be! Kitchen Living is a family run business based in Hedge end which creates beautifully designed, made to measure kitchens. They organise everything from planning and design, to building work and internal
finishes. The company has spent 10 years listening to their customers and trying to create the most stress free process of designing and installing kitchens. You can expect a free home measure, detailed CAD presentation and transparent pricing. Your quote will contain everything that has been discussed including all the associated building work right through to decorating. Full project management means you won’t need to worry about the stress of coordinating tradesmen. Your project manager will visit regularly and a customer services team in the office will make sure everything happens when it should. The service is summed up perfectly by a recent customer: “Kitchen Living took charge of everything, great design, a clear plan, experienced and characterful team, high work standards (tidy), quality materials, all fitted perfectly. Project management and coordination of the different skills and trades was impeccable and they did not eat too many biscuits either! Would highly highly recommend.” Find out more about Kitchen Living by visiting their website www.kitchenliving.co.uk

RECIPE
Pork Jambalaya
Cooked in just one pan and on the table in less than an hour this is a great midweek family supper. Serve with garlic bread or a mixed green salad, if liked. Serves 4 Ready in 55 minutes 1 tbsp groundnut oil 100g chorizo sausage, sliced 350g pork loin steaks, cut into chunks 1 onion, peeled and chopped 3 celery stalks, trimmed and chopped 1 garlic clove, peeled and crushed 2 tsp smoked paprika, plus extra for sprinkling 2 tsp Cajun seasoning 225g easy-cook long grain rice 700ml vegetable stock 100g fine green beans, chopped 1 large yellow pepper, deseeded and diced
1. Heat 1 tsp of the oil in a large deep frying pan and fry the chorizo over a high heat until golden and the fat starts to run. Remove from the pan with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper. 2. Add the diced pork to the pan and fry for 2-3 minutes, stirring all the time until browned. Remove and set aside with the chorizo. Add the rest of the oil to the pan and fry the onion, celery and garlic for 5 minutes until beginning to soften. 3. Stir in the spices and rice and cook, stirring, over a medium heat for 2 minutes then pour in the stock and bring to the boil. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Return the pork to the pan and cover and simmer gently for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. 4. Stir in the chorizo, green beans and yellow pepper into the pan and cook, uncovered, for a further 6-7 minutes until the rice and vegetables are tender, adding a little more stock if necessary. Serve sprinkled with a little more smoked paprika and freshly ground black pepper. Tip You can replace the pork in this recipe with diced chicken breast fillet or boneless thigh fillets. Alternatively use large raw king prawns and add them to the pan in step 4 and cook until pink.

Luxury 3 Bedroom Holiday Apartment With Swimming Pool On Croatian Coast A week or two in the unspoilt Dalmatian Coast will give you the chance to appreciate all that Croatia has to offer. Whether it’s walking the historical streets of Trogir, tasting the nightlife in Split, sunbathing by the beach, canyoneering down the Cetina River there’s something everyone What’s the currency? Although Croatia joined the EU in 2014, local currency is still kuna and at the current exchange rate your spending money goes far. Eating out is not expensive, local wine and beer is cheap. What’s the language? It’s Croatian but English is widely spoken as is German and Italian. When’s the best time to go? Peak season is July and August so it’s bustling and weather is beautifully hot. June and September is quieter and a little cooler. Some excursions might not operate in May and past 15 September. Do they drive on the left or right? On the right but with the network of water buses and boats you don’t need to hire a car; a great saving.
10 Highlights of a Holiday in Trogir 1. Historical town of Trogir; this World Heritage Unesco site has hardly changed in hundreds of year. Wind your way round the narrow, cobbled streets, wine and dine under the palms of the “riva” in view of the super yachts berthed nearby. 2. Hire a speedboat for the day. Pack you snorkel, your shades and a picnic, or head to a nearby island for lunch. 3. Swim in the Krk National Park. Accessible only by river boat the Krk Falls are a must see. Follow the nature trail and see the falls from below and above. Only 45 minutes from Trogir 4. Visit Split by boat from Trogir. Tour one of the most imposing Roman ruins, the Diocletian’s Palace, set within the centre of Split itself. Climb the Bell Tower for breathtaking views of the city and surrounding landscape of mountains, islands and rooftops 5. Soak up the sun on Okrug Gornji beach, Trogir. From sunrise to sunset hire a sunbed for the day and be served drinks while you sunbathe. 6. From dolphin watching to spearfishing, bike tours and island hops to Hvar; excursions all start from Trogir so take your pick. 7. Cocktails at Laganini Beach Club. Spend the day here on a double sunbed, treat yourself to a massage followed by lunch cooked on the grill and exotic cocktails served all day .. .heaven. 8. A day trip to Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Where two cultures meet, mosques on one side of the river Gorge and churches on the other. Bullet riddled buildings still stand bearing the scars of the battle of the Old Bridge during the 1990s conflict. 9. Ride the Cetina River in many ways; by raft, canoe, kayak or just in a wetsuit and canyoneer downstream and for the more adventurous abseil the last 100ft drop or walk round! 10. Relax by the pool at Rozac. A luxury 3 bedroom apartment with 2 balconies, air conditioning and private pool is located in the heart of Ciovo island, walking distance to Trogir and a five minute walk to the beach. Fancy Croaita this summer? Rozac apartment is available for rent from May to September. Call Melanie Tinson on 023 8027 6396 or 07900 307636 for availability and costs. Prices from £450 per week. www.ciovotinson.webeden.co.uk
