Travel responsibly

C

onsidering the circumstances, in comparison with the previous editorials, this one was much more challenging to write, especially if you take two things into account. Firstly, the epidemiological situation, in regards to Covid-19, which varies in more than 140 countries worldwide, where you are reading us from, and the other is that the situation is unpredictable and changes on a daily basis. In all of our previous editorials we have encouraged you to travel, discover new destinations and cultures, head out on new adventures... we're also doing that now, but with another important message - travel responsibly, thoughtfully, considerately, and sustainably. Choose your destination wisely, monitor the situation in regards to the pandemic in the world, and if the situation in your country or in the country you'd like to visit isn't favorable at this time, postpone your trip. Don't cancel it, just put it off for a future date. In the meantime, just like a true traveler and explorer, plan, get

informed about your destination, and get ready to go. Thanks to a lot of the international media outlets, you've probably already heard that Croatia is on the top list of favorite and recommended destinations for the summer of 2020, and it has been hailed as a safe and desirable destination. At the time this editorial is being written, the epidemiological situation in the country is still stable and amongst the best in the Mediterranean. Moreover, Croatia has been one of the most successful countries so far in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic. It is also a successful travel destination, so diverse travel adventures await you at every step there. We have written a lot about them in all the previous issues of tipTravel magazine, and this time we have prepared a summary in order to remind you of many of them, and also reveal a lot of them to you. Flip through the pages and find inspiration for your next trip :) Željka and Robert Kunštek

Although, in normal circumstances, the sun and the sea aren't reason enough to attract tourists, after months spent in isolation, with limited possibilities for movement and going outside, now they definitely are! More than ever, Croatia's most popular tourist product - relaxing on sunny paradise beaches, next to the crystal-clear sea and in the shade of aromatic Mediterranean pine trees - is a true hit. Because who hasn't wished for the sun, sea, and irresistible nature after spending such a long time indoors?! There are countless such locations in Croatia, from the north to the south Adriatic, on the coast and on the islands. Try to find the ones that are quieter, hidden away, slightly wild, which can often most easily be reached by sea. Challenging paths also lead to many, but don't hesitate whatsoever. Every drop of sweat is more than worth it because you'll have many of those paradise beaches - all to yourself.

More than 1200 reasons to visit

Tighten the sails Sailors and sea afficionados will unanimously agree that nothing gives you a greater feeling of freedom than tightening the sails and sailing into the endless blue. Freedom is exactly what we all desire after months spent in isolation. The sound of the sea and the waves, the wind in your hair, a playful pod of dolphins and lively seagulls, the warm sun or starry sky above, and the feeling of completely uniting with nature... And the silence, which can rarely be heard anywhere anymore. It's all part of the pleasure sailing offers. More than 1200 Croatian islands, islets, reefs and skerries await you, and, of course, you can sail between them with a motorboat. Find your safe haven in the evening hours in one of the many fantastic, well-equipped, safe marinas. Croatia is still a corner of the Mediterranean where you can find isolated bays and islands without a trace of any civilization, and you can drop anchor at the same locations where Roman galleys and Illyrian boats once did. All in the same clean and untouched landscape. Incredible, isn't it? Although you can sail all year long, the best time for that adventure is in late spring and early fall when the temperatures are more pleasant, the sea is calm, and the winds are good. Sail the Croatian Adriatic like an old sea dog and find out why it's one of the most popular nautical destinations in the world.

While sailing the eastern coast of the Adriatic, adventurous sailors will come across islets and skerries where the only inhabitants are the lighthouse keeper, seagulls, and a cat or two. The lighthouses of the Adriatic, incredible and mystical buildings, are valuable cultural heritage, and some of them even offer accommodations. Of course, if you reserve far enough in advance. Staying on an isolated island, surrounded by the blue sea, away from the hustle and bustle of civilization, is an experience to make all your friends envious.

Adventures on land, sea, and in the air

Hiking in Paklenica National Park; 2 Adventurism in the Starigrad-Paklenica hinterland; 3 Releasing energy on Lošinj, the island of vitality; 4 Horseback riding next to the old town of Drežnik, near the Plitvice Lakes National Park; 5 Exploring the underwater world on Rab; 6 Windsailing in Viganj, a surfer's paradise, on the Pelješac peninsula. 1

Release some adrenaline From north to south, from east to west, Croatia invites you to release some adrenaline. Fans of nature and active holidays enjoy its landscapes of untouched nature all year long. Explore it yourself - on foot, by bike, or on horseback. An abundance of marked trails await you. Dive into the depths of the sea and discover the unbeatable natural beauty (and perhaps an old sunken galleon), paddle a kayak or canoe in its sea and rivers and release some energy rafting. If you prefer to have a bird's-eye view, sail the skies with a parachute or hot air balloon. Zipline above a canyon of clear rivers, or try bungee jumping off the Maslenica or Šibenik bridges. Make sure both feet are on the ground after that because plenty of excitement also awaits you on land. Jump into a quad or a buggy and head out on an off-road safari. Such trails, as you know, always lead to incredible locations.

A country recognized by UNESCO

In Croatia, not only do cultural attractions await you in churches, cathedrals, museums, and galleries, but many of them can also be found outdoors, under the starry sky that watches over their timeless beauty. In them, you will notice and feel the spirit of the east and the west, central Europe, but also of the temperamental south - the Mediterranean. They are scattered across the entire country, and UNESCO has protected many of them. You will feel like an emperor as you walk through Diocletian's Palace and medieval Split, like a king as you explore the stone center of Šibenik, like a duke as you admire the beauty of the old town of Dubrovnik...

There is also plenty of intangible cultural heritage...

CROATIA

Flavors you don't want to miss out on

Taste the best As full as Croatia is of cultural stories, that's how full it is of gastronomy. Dishes from every region are a special story of a tumultuous past, traditions and the nations that lived in those areas, for a shorter or longer period of time, and left their mark on gastronomy. So, in continental destinations, you will see Viennese, Hungarian, and Turkish influence, while in coastal regions, there are Greek, Roman, and Illyric Mediterranean flavors. Discover them slowly, one by one... The list of foods that you should try in Croatia is truly long, and amongst the flavors that shouldn't be missed out on are Dalmatian prosciutto, Pag cheese, pašticada from Split, grilled fish, Ston oysters, Kvarner shrimp, Istrian truffles, dishes baked under the bell, Slavonian kulen and čobanac, turkey and mlinci from Croatian Zagorje... Sweeten up your days in Croatia with style, and enjoy the sweet trip led by Rab cake, Dubrovnik rožata, Blato lumblija, fritule and donuts, Samobor kremšnite, šnenokle, Zagorje štrukli, Međimurje gibanica, plum dumplings, walnut roll and poppy seed roll... In many Adriatic destinations, trying superb olive oil is a must, and you can raise a toast to the worldfamous aperitif - Zadar's Maraschino liqueur, which was even enjoyed on the Titanic. Also impressive is the wine list from Croatia's regions, where various sorts of wine have been carefully cultivated with a lot of love for a long time. Pelješac's Plavac mali, Korčula's Pošip and Grk, Vrbnička Žlahtina, Malvazija from Istria, Traminac from Ilok, Škrlet from Moslavina, Malvasija from Dubrovnik, Kraljevina from Zelina... they are all sorts that result in superb wine for a fantastic enological experience and they prove that Croatian winemakers stand strong next to their French colleagues.

Did you know that a total of five percent of tourists from the European Union choose their holiday destination according to their favorite film, or to the locations where it was filmed? Tourism and the film industry truly go together hand in hand, which many Croatian destinations that have attracted international productions, and then many tourists, have proven.

Walk through Westeros, follow Winnetou...

Enjoy yourself like an actor

Long ago, filmmakers from around the world discovered the beauty of Croatia, for which some have said that it could be completely under UNESCO protection due to its natural and cultural heritage, and so logically global hit productions have been filmed in many Croatian destinations. Way back in 1962, a series of legendary films about Winnetou, a Native American chief, were filmed in Croatia. The filming locations included Paklenica, Plitvice Lakes and Krka national parks, Velebit, the Zrmanja canyon, Vrlika, and other places. Nowadays, many fans of the film of the popular Native American follow the footsteps of the chief of the Apache tribe. In 2015, the Winnetou trilogy was filmed, at the same spots the original Winnetou show from the 1960s was filmed, as well as in Lika, Gorski Kotar, Velebit, and Istria. Over the past decade, Croatia gained fame with the filming of the globally popular show, "Game of Thrones", which was filmed mostly in Dubrovnik, which pretended to be King's Landing, along with the island of Lokrum (Qarth), Ston (King's Landing), in Split and nearby Klis (Meereen), along with Trogir (Qarth), Kaštel Gomilica and Šibenik (Braavos), while some scenes were also filmed in the Baška Voda area. Walk into the world of the Seven Kingdoms, tour the majestic landscapes, mystical cities and walls, duck into the cellars where Khaleesi's dragons still hide... Filmmakers also visited the island of Vis, so the sequel of the popular musical romantic comedy, "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again", was filmed there in 2017. That same year, Dubrovnik pretended to be Nottingham, England for the filming of "Robin Hood", while "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" was filmed there the year before. Several years ago, the shows "Borgia III" and "Knightfall" were also filmed in the city... Over the past few years, the Korean show "Battle trip" was also filmed in Croatia, and various movies and shows were also filmed in Zagreb, Opatija, and Split, on the islands of Korčula, Hvar, and Pag, in Odransko polje, on the Brijuni islands...

Did you know that the World Health Organization named the Mediterranean diet the healthiest in the world? The diet was added to UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the World in 2013, and its flavors can be enjoyed all along the Croatian side of the Adriatic coast. Relaxing with the leisurely, Mediterranean way of life will also be beneficial to your health. Make sure to try it, and if you aren't sure how to do it, just watch and imitate the locals.

tipTravelMagazine May 2020 - April 2021

We have never been more aware of the importance of health like we are now in these challenging times caused by the Covid-19 virus. More than ever before, health has become the main thing we wish for ourselves and others, health has become a word we use on a daily basis, we think of our health, we pray for health... Did you know that Croatia has always been a synonym for health? Elite European guests arrived on vacation, but also for health, on the Opatija and Crikvenica rivieras 170 years ago, and Opatija was at the very top of the most fashionable spas in the 19th century and first half of the 20th century. Health tourism also developed on the islands of Lošinj and Rab, in Crikvenica, Lovran, Makarska, Split, Gorski Kotar, all the way to Zagreb, Varaždin, Daruvar, Bizovac, Topusko, Ivanić-Grad, along with many spas in Croatian Zagorje. There are many reasons Croatia has become a more sought-after destination for health and medical tourism nowadays. The mild climate with plenty of hours of sunshine annually, fresh sea and mountain air, a long tradition of tourism, good road infrastructure and the close vicinity of large emitting markets, the security of the destination, the superb medical staff, the wide offer of health and medical services at affordable prices, a good reputation in offering health services, a healthy Mediterranean diet, beautiful landscape, abundant offer of wellness treatments... Need we continue?

Nin: The town with the smallest cathedral in the world Croatia also has the smallest cathedral in the world, in the town of Nin, near Zadar. The 9th century Church of the Holy Cross is the main representative of ancient Croatian construction. It is 7.80 m long, 7.60 m wide, and 8.20 m tall. Due to the position of its windows and the angle at which light comes in, the church used to be a kind of calendar because the rays of the sun could precisely define the date of solstice and equinox.

Dubrovnik: The first quarantine in the world Perhaps you didn't know, but the first quarantine in the world was introduced back in medieval times, in 1377, in Dubrovnik. All travelers, both domestic and foreign, who arrived in the city from potentially infected areas had to first be accommodated in barracks on nearby islands before entering Dubrovnik. There they would spend 30 days in isolation, and later quarantine was prolonged to 40 days. Dubrovnik's wise city leaders so invented quarantining, a Croatian brand and innovation that was later used worldwide. Later on, in 1627, at Ploče, the eastern entrance to the city, the construction of lazarettos, buildings for quarantining, began. The lazarettos were known as the largest transit trade center in the Adriatic and one of the best-organized quarantines in the Mediterranean. © k

The necktie - a Croatian invention In its early days, the necktie was a handkerchief worn around the neck by Croatian soldiers who were fighting under the French flag in the Thirty-Year War (1618-1648), and they were famous for it. Soon, the French were intrigued by it like an accessory, and they wore it "a la Croate" (in the Croatian way). It didn't take long for it to spread throughout Europe, and then the world, as a symbol of culture and nobility. The largest and longest necktie in the world, which was inscribed in the Guinness Book of World Records, was tied around the Arena in Pula, a city on the Istrian peninsula, in 2003. It weighed around 800 kg, was eight meters wide, and 26 meters wide at its widest point, while the tie's knot was nine meters deep.

The country with more than 2600 hours of sunshine per year also, perfectly logically, has an innovative monument dedicated to the sun - The Greeting to the Sun. Along with the unique sounds of the nearby Sea Organ, the light show can be experienced in Zadar, the city that is home to the sunset that legendary director Alfred Hitchcock named the most beautiful in the world. Did you know that Zadar is more than three thousand years old and that it's older than Rome? Or that the famous Maraschino liqueur, which was also served on the Titanic, is produced there? Hmmm... it seems as if you'll have to pay a visit to Zadar soon.

Nikola Tesla and electricity Have you already turned on a light, your computer, cell phone, or a kitchen appliance today? You likely have, and that's all thanks to Nikola Tesla. Vrbnik: The town with the narrowest street in the world Croatia's largest island, Krk, is home to the narrowest street in the world. Up until now we haven't heard of a narrower one, and if there is, then Klančić street is definitely the narrowest street in Croatia. You will find it in Vrbnik, a picturesque island town with a labyrinth of narrow, winding, stone streets. The narrowest part of Klančić street is just over 40 cm wide. If you decide to pass through it, make sure to first measure your waist and suck in your stomach so that you don't get stuck.

It was first launched for use way back in 1890 and today it's protected as a cultural monument. Not a single visitor to the Croatian capital misses out on that short, but sweet, trip which takes 64 seconds, so make sure to enjoy it too. tipT ravel

Vinkovci: The oldest city in Croatia and Europe Here's another fact that is probably new to you - Croatia is home to the oldest city in Europe, which has been continually inhabited for more than 8300 years. It's Vinkovci, where the Orion, the oldest Indo-European calendar found to date, was discovered. No, it's not a calendar in the modern sense of the word, but a dish with carved decorations that represent the stars that dominate the night sky above Vinkovci. Amongst them, the winter star, Orion, is dominant. Vinkovci is also the birthplace of two Roman Emperors, the city where the meandering river flows in two directions... There are many interesting features at every step, so it's definitely worth taking a trip to eastern Croatia.

here, where the crystal-clear sea splashes the white pebble beaches, lined by Mediterranean pines, where the sea and fresh mountain air mix, and the sun shines for more than 2700 hours a year, you will find Baška Voda. The charming and lively town in the heart of Dalmatia, a favorite amongst tourists, was described by the famous Dr. Antonio Angelo Frari back in 1840 as a place "where everything exudes life and energy". It's doubtless that you will feel the liveliness and special energy there that will entice you to do some outdoor activities. Relax your body and mind on the marked walking trails at the foot of the impressive Biokovo mountain, which has been awarded the title of nature park. The trails will take you alongside the sea, the slopes of Biokovo, mountain springs and

picturesque villages, such as Topići and Bast, with preserved Dalmatian stone houses and churches. Don't hesitate to conquer the peaks of Biokovo, which will reward you with majestic views. Head out on that adventure but make sure to stick to the marked trails and head out with a guide as part of an organized excursion. Cyclists, climbers, divers, fans of water sports and buggy safaris will surely enjoy Baška Voda, and there will definitely be an abundance of adrenaline. Later, relax in one of the wellness centers there that offer plenty, and treat your taste buds to a feast. With typical Dalmatian charm, the hospitable locals await you in their restaurants and taverns with meat and fish specialties, and make sure to try a fish stew made of grooper, Pašticada, Biokovo Peka, and Baška Voda rafioli. 

ear the sea and the hit destination of Split, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of tourists, in an area of enchanting natural beauty, an abundance of culture and hundreds of years of tradition, you will find Sinj. It is the "capital city" of the Cetina region, an area that the karst beauty, the clear Cetina River, a magnet for fans of nature, canoe safaris and fly fishing, flows through. The Cetina region is also a favorite amongst cyclists, walkers, hikers, and horseback riding enthusiasts, who will find a real treat there - thematic trails that pass through idyllic landscapes, next to freshwater springs, old churches, bridges and mills, next to endless fields... It's a true delight to cycle down the Cetina and Aequum trails (and Aequum is also a horseback riding trail), and cyclists will also be thrilled by the Panj trail, and the one that meanders through Sinjsko polje. Hikers can head up the Plišivica trail, and the Svilaja and Visoka Mountains also offer a challenge. Adventurers will find their dose of adrenaline on the Sinj trail that offers the experience of the wilderness of the Dalmatian hinterland.

Those who seek peace can head over to the Our Lady of Sinj trail, which will take them on a spiritual journey. Those who prefer to admire the beauty of the area from the skies, fans of paragliding and parachuting, will also enjoy themselves there, and those who prefer paintball, airsoft, and quad rides on and through the local roads, canyons, and mountain regions, will also enjoy themselves. Since the beginning of time, Sinj and the Cetina region have been tied to horse breeding and training, so that area is also a favorite destination for equestrians. The pinnacle of the connection between horses, man, and tradition is the Sinj Alka, a knight's tournament of Alkar knights that has been held for more than three centuries in Sinj on the first Sunday in August. For the people of Sinj, it is in remembrance of the win against the Ottomans in 1715 and a sign of gratitude to Our Lady of Sinj, who, according to belief, saved the city at that time. For the world, it is a valuable piece of cultural heritage inscribed on UNESCO's list, and for tourists, it's a unique experience that can only be experienced - in Sinj. 

THE ART OF DRY STONE WALL CONSTRUCTION

UNESCO

Adriatic stone lace Text: Željka Kunštek

Since the prehistoric era, the hardworking inhabitants of the Adriatic coast and islands built dry stone walls on barren land, stone by stone, and left landscapes that take the breath away of everyone who passes by.

O

ne of the privileges of living at the Croatian coast and on islands are the views of dry stone walls, symbols of man's effort, but also true works of art. Kilometers of that stone lace were built by the calloused hands of the inhabitants of the Adriatic-Dinaric area in order to remove the stones from the soil so they could then plant vineyards, olive groves, and other kinds of plant life that grow well under the warm Mediterranean sun. The unique, traditional construction method, without the use of any kind of bonding material, was also used for the construction of simple stone shelters for short stays, as well as being a way to divide land. Although it might seem simple at first, placing stones one on top of the other is a complex task, thousands of years old.

In 2018, the art of stone wall construction was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

50

tipTravelMagazine May 2020 - April 2021

The most beautiful dry stone walls in Croatia can be seen on the Stari Grad Plain and in Velo Grablje on the island of Hvar, as well as on the island of Pag, on the Kornati islands, in the old vineyards in Primošten, on the island of Korčula, on the Pelješac peninsula… The islet of Baljenac, where there are 23 km of dry stone walls on 0.14 square kilometers of area, is a special story. From a bird's-eye view, the view of the stone labyrinth is truly incredible, and it looks like a large fingerprint. As far as fingerprints are concerned, did you know that it is one of the symbols of Croatia? Ivan Vučetić, the father of dactyloscopy, is originally from the island of Hvar. Dragodid, a village on the island of Vis, is also a synonym for dry stone walls, and its inhabitants carefully preserve, promote, and share the tradition of dry stone construction techniques with new generations. It has also been recognized in Europe, so in 2011, it received the European Union's award for cultural heritage, Europa Nostra, for its Dragodid project. 

D

o you wish you could have a weekend getaway near the city, but still far away from the hustle and bustle? In peace, quiet, and greenery, but still close enough to everything the city offers? With pleasant accommodations and delicious food, but at an acceptable price? In idyllic nature, yet in surroundings that also offer cultural experiences? Where you can choose between many activities, yet not make a mistake in choosing? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it's time to go to Žumberak. The mountain range west of Zagreb is part of the area that surrounds Zagreb, which is, not without reason, called Zagreb's Green Ring.

By bike, on foot, in the air... The best medicine for fatigue and stress is going out into nature, and it's a jackpot if you manage to do it in idyllic surroundings with a small chance of meeting large groups of loud tourists. Žumberak is one of the rare green oases that has managed to preserve peace, natural beauty, biodiversity, authenticity, and a mix of unique experiences, and its success in doing so received confirmation in 1999, when the area of Žumberak and Samoborsko gorje were named a nature park. If walking and cycling aren't enough to raise your adrenaline levels, there are two climbing centers and flying centers available - on Japetić and Plešivica. It's hard to write about the joy paragliding above the green fairytale of Žumberak offers. Experience it.

Don't miss out... Žumberak and Samoborsko gorje are full of locations that will awaken your imagination, reveal the secret past of those hills, the legends of fairies and elves, and incredible landscapes. While in the heart of Žumberak, visit the town of Budinjak, where you will find one of the most important and almost completely preserved archeological sites in Croatia. See the foundation of a unique church in Croatia, find out what a Budinjak helmet is, see a wedding dance in a puddle... Climb up to Japetić, the tallest peak of Samoborsko gorje,

Although many educational and hiking trails will easily intrigue you with their names (Žumberak Archeological Trail, Springs of Life, etc.), before you head out on an adventure, get more information on them and choose the one or ones that suit your physical fitness level. For example, before heading out to discover the secrets of the old town of Okić (the Okićnica educational trail), make sure you have at least an hour of time, energy for walking three thousand steps, and at least half a liter of water to refresh yourself. If you prefer to explore by bike, there are around 200 km of marked bike trails waiting there for you. You can cycle to your heart's content, and choose between the Fairy Trail, Waterfall Trail, Bat Trail, and St. Gera Trail. If you are more likely to take the path of least resistance, rent an e-bike at the Budinjak Eco-center. The hosts also organize guided bike tours if booked in advance.

A delicious adventure through the past Žumberak was always a place with good food, and today, the creative "Millenium of Cuisine" event still cultivates that tradition with the help of excursion sites, local farms, and hiking cabins. It is held every September in the Archeological Park in Budinjak, and it include workshops with prehistoric, Roman, medieval, and traditional Žumberak cuisine. At that time, participants (which could also include you) prepare dishes according to historical recipes over open fires. They use wild herbs they collect themselves on nearby meadows, along with exotic spices. Sausages with liquamen (a salty Roman spice), chicken in a sauce made with verjuice (a sour juice made with unripe grapes), fish roasted in a clay dish, nettle dumplings, or Roman wine seasoned with pepper? f you want to relax in preserved nature with a view of fruitful vineyards, fertile valleys, tame hills, and picturesque villages, come to the Bjelovar-Bilogora area. In the heart of continental Croatia, surrounded by the forested slopes of Bilogora, Papuk, and Moslavačka gora, you will find relaxation in fresh air, complemented by outdoor activities, the benefits of health tourism, and a fantastic offer of homemade food and superb wine. Two thousand years ago, abundant sources of thermal water and therapeutic mineral mud also attracted Romans to the area. Today, it is home to the Daruvar Spa, a modern and well-equipped special hospital for medical rehabilitation, surrounded by a lush centuries-old park. Count Antun Janković, the "father" of modern spas, had many baths and villas built along with an extravagantly adorned castle that bears his name. Take a walk through the cultivated park around Count Janković's castle and rest in the shade of the enormous Ginkgo biloba tree. When the count had it planted 243 years ago, he couldn't have imaginged that it would now be the oldest ginkgo tree in Croatia, and the second-oldest one in Europe. Nearby you will also find the Aquae Balissae thermal water park, which will delight you with water attractions spread over 2200 square meters.

The nearly 90 km long Bilogora Horseback Tourist Trail, which is also the first internationally tested and certified equestrian trail in Croatia, is a true treat for riders. Free riding through wild nature, which was partially enhanced by man, is a true joy - there are more than 200 km of organized, licensed equestrian trails at your disposal. The lush forests also offer the ideal conditions for hunting, and the clean rivers and their arms are great for fishing. Look for traditional dishes on the menus - from cheese and various types of pies, noodles, and dumplings, zlevanka, buckwheat štrukli to mushrooms and desserts such as Bilogora kovrtanj. Make sure to try Bjelovarski kvargl, a slightly spicy cheese shaped into small little cones. That cheese boasts the European protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications trademark as of February 2020, and you can buy it in Bjelovar as a souvenir. As attractive as the days are, the nights will be even more spectacular in the Bjelovar-Bilogora County, especially if on clear nights you head out to the first Croatian gold-tier International Dark Sky Park, Vrani Kamen, located on the western slopes of the Papuk mountain. There, nine kilometers from the center of Daruvar, spread over 8000 hectares, is one of the rare places without light pollution so the starriest sky you have ever seen might just open up above you. So, it's no wonder that it's not only visited by tourists, but also by astronomers, astrophotographs, and romantics so that they can study it, take photos, watch it, or just admire that starry spectacle. ust fifty kilometers southeast from the hustle and bustle of Zagreb, the Croatian capital, there are places where you can still hear silence. Clean, inebriating air, picturesque towns with traditional wooden houses, centuries-old churches, the tame slopes of Moslavačka gora where breezes caress the fertile vines, river valleys, one of the largest and best-preserved natural marshlands in Europe - Lonjsko polje Nature Park, the croaking of frogs, the chirping of around 250 species of birds and large nests that storks built on chimneys in Čigoč, also known as the village of storks - all of that awaits you in the Sisak-Moslavina County. In that impressive nature, it seems as if time stopped in an era when people

lived in harmony with natural changes while cultivating fertile land. Nowadays, they will gladly share the fruits the land gave them with passersby. Visit the area and enjoy views rarely seen in Europe anymore, the hospitality of the locals, the enticing flavors of traditional dishes, and superb wines.

The story of Škrlet Along with all of its interesting features, Moslavina is also home to - the story of Škrlet. It is an indigenous sort of white grapes used to make first-class light-yellow wine. The winemaking tradition in Moslavina is thousands of years old. The first vines were planted by the Thracians, and then the wine

Moslavina also call Škrlet "ovnek žuti", "ovnek slatki", "škrlet tusti", and "škrtec". The name "ovnek žuti - yellow ram" describes a bunch of Škrlet grapes which are reminiscent of a ram's head with horns. That was the inspiration for the trademark of the sort, which also found its way to the new bottle label for a Škrlet made jointly by seven respected winemakers of Moslavina. In late 2019, the Ilovčak, Jaram, Florijanović, Miklaužić, Mikša, Trdenić, and Voštinić-Klasnić winemakers, gathered together in the "Škrlet Agricultural Association" presented their first bottles of shared Škrlet under one label. Wine buffs were offered a Škrlet made of selected grapes from the best sites, filled in a limited edition of just five thousand bottles, which guarantees its quality and exclusivity and represents the best of Croatia's offer of wine. The harmonious, light, and fresh aroma, and pleasant, full flavor of the slightly tart wine with fruity and floral notes delighted the world-renowned wine publicist Darrel Joseph. Let it also delight you. 

was enjoyed by the Illyrians, and the mighty Roman emperors and wealthy patricians. The tradition continued and the counts Erdödy were also dedicated to growing grapes. Still, devastating diseases ruined the vineyards in Moslavina in the early 20th century. It took a lot of time and a lot of effort to rejuvenate them. Nowadays, 15 large and 40 small winemakers cultivate vineyards covering 227 hectares, 76 of which are Škrlet. You can visit them on the Moslavina Wine Road. The name Škrlet comes from the distorted German word "scharlach" (scarlet fever), since the ripe grapes get purply-red dots, so the grapes look like they have scarlet fever. The people in

Škrlet wine pairs excellently with dishes made of fish, pasta, white meat, as well as spicy dishes. It is best served chilled at 10°C to 12°C, and if you add it to your dish while cooking, it will add a full flavor.

For a long time, plenty of research conducted worldwide has confirmed the benefits of a short afternoon nap on the wellbeing of people, as well as on their productivity. People in many Mediterranean countries, where siestas are part of normal afternoon rituals, know that well. Although most employers will frown upon the mention of a 20-minute afternoon nap, which would be ideal to boost energy and refresh the mind, some large companies, such as Google and Apple, have allowed their employees to do so for a long time now. Many mindful employers equip their business premises with sleep pods, while for a while now some cities, such as Madrid, London, Paris, Tokyo, and Houston, have had nap bars for afternoon siestas. ©

Recently, there has been more and more talk of emotional wellness. It is primarily in correlation with the development of positive emotions, moods and the view on life, optimism, and constructive problem solving. Emotional wellness is the possibility of successfully handling everyday stressful situations and adjusting to change. It is focused on expressing and becoming aware of one's own emotions, and includes forgiveness, conducting stress-reducing activities, and taking care about what we eat. Don't forget, food is fuel for the body, and choosing high-quality food is key to maintaining a healthy hormonal balance.

There are many groups of vegans and vegetarians available on social media where they share recipes, advice, information on body care products... 

In order to offer our support to Italy, our dear neighbor and a country that the global pandemic caused by the Covid-19 virus has severely affected, we dedicate this pages to it, one of the most attractive travel destinations in the world. Italy is a true tourist magnet that delights and attracts people at any time of year and is full of attractions. One of the most popular attractions is located in Pisa, a town in the heart of the picturesque region of Tuscany, best known for its leaning tower. It's actually a bell tower (with seven bells) of the local cathedral, and its construction started in the 12th century and took two centuries. The slant of the tower, which attracts more than a million tourists to Pisa annually, was actually a coincidence, or the consequence of it being built on marshy soil. Attempts and failures to set it upright have marked almost nearly its entire history, and the last joint effort by engineers, architects, and mathematicians managed to successfully decrease its slant to 4 degrees (in comparison to its previous 5.5 degrees). The tower is, deservingly, under UNESCO protection and it's worth visiting and climbing up to the top. We look forward to returning to enchanting Italy soon and enjoying its beauty.

Arashiyama bamboo grove Our planet is abundant with enchanting landscapes, which absolutely every world traveler will agree with, and one of the locations that is truly surreal and breathtaking is the bamboo forest in the Japanese city of Kyoto. It's one of the largest natural attractions in Japan, and it spreads over 16 square kilometers. Walk into the entrancing world of thousands of tall bamboo trees, along the long, meandering trails, and the bamboo alley - the most photographed place in the city. Of course you'll reach for your selfie stick and eternalize the beauty there. Besides being known for its beauty, the bamboo forest is also special for the sound the wind makes as it blows through the dense bamboo grove. The Japanese Ministry of the Environment named that unique sound as one of the hundred sounds of Japan that need to be preserved. If you'd like to experience that beautiful sound for yourself, it's best to head to the grove in the morning hours, as soon as it opens, in order to avoid the crowds of tourists. For the same reason, the early morning hours are also the ideal time to visit the famous Tenryu-ji temple nearby, which is surrounded by one of the most beautiful gardens in the city. ď ś
