Tipton Poetry Journal – Winter 2021

Nocturnal Sara Sarna There’s a coyote in the field. He has the look I wear when I’m not sure why I find myself where I am, though his may have more to do with uncertainty about the daylight. The raccoon family crossing the road has that same bemused look, babies stopping in the middle, unsure of the sun and whether, at that moment, their parents can be trusted. I, never nocturnal, wake as the sun merely considers rising, sleep as much a mystery as God. We are, as a whole, confused by a world no longer familiar, a construct of time that no longer applies, and we wait for our eyes to adjust.

Sara Sarna is a poet in southeastern Wisconsin. She is a military "brat" and only put down roots as an adult. Her work has appeared in print, online and on stage. Her first chapbook, Whispers from a Bench, was published in November of 2020.
