TRACK & FIELD SPRING 2018 / NEWS
From the Associates Dear Alumni and Friends of Yale Track & Field and Cross Country, The Indoor Track & Field Season wrapped up with competition at the Indoor HEPS at Dartmouth followed by ECAC & IC4A meets at Boston University. The women finished 8th at HEPS with points from distance runners Dana Klein in the 3,000m (3rd), Andrea Masterson in the 5,000m (5th), and both the 4 x 400 (6th) and the Distance Medley (3rd) relays. The men finished 7th at HEPS with top performances from Trevor Reinhart winning the 3,000m, Paedyn Gomes running a personal best in the 60mHH (2nd), and CJ McCord recording a personal best in the high jump (2nd). A small group continued on to the ECAC/IC4A meet where Vincent Vaughns set the school record in the 200m dash.
The Yale track & field athletes headed out to San Diego for their spring break training trip. CA was a welcome change from the weekly nor'easters back in CT. If you would like to see the team in action, Yale is hosting the Yale – Harvard dual meet in April or, if you prefer covered seating, you can cheer on the team at Outdoor HEPS at Penn. We look forward to seeing you around the track or at the Annual Dinner on Friday, April 27 at the Yale Club of New York. GO BULLDOGS ! Larry Kreider ‘69 Kim Fulton ‘91

Our annual Yale Track and Field Association Dinner will take place on Friday April 27th at the Yale Club in New York, and we are honoring the 1968 Heps and IC4A Champion 4X4 team of Chuck Hobbs, Steve Bittner, Larry Kreider and Mark Young. I hope that many of you will be able to join us for that event and see us compete at the Outdoor Ivy Heptagonal Championship at Penn the first weekend in May!
Thank goodness for Coxe Cage! And thank goodness for the generosity of all of you who allow us to travel far and wide to great places to train and compete! As we transition to the outdoor season, we find ourselves counting our blessings for the ability to train indoors! The Cage has given us refuge from what seems like an endless winter here in New Haven and allowed us to train uninterrupted. We had some tremendous indoor Heps performances this season, and continued to rewrite our school record books. top-ten lists. Most notable was the performance of Junior Cross Country Captain Elect Trevor Reinhart, who built on an exciting cross country season by capturing the Heptagonal Title at 3000m. Junior Cross Country Captain Elect Andrea Masterson and Senior Track and Field Captain Dana Klein both capped great indoor seasons by scoring in the 5000m and 3000m, respectively, at the Indoor Heps at Dartmouth. Senior Track and Field Captain Paedyn Gomes hurdled his way to his third consecutive All-Ivy Honor in the 60m hurdles, and Junior CJ McCord garnered his first All-Ivy honor with his second place finish in the High Jump. In the sprints, Sophomores Vincent Vaughns and Kyle Macauley came up with some big Heps Points and Vaughns broke the Yale Record at 200m, besting Marc-Andre Alexandre’s (’17) old mark, running 21.53s at the IC4A Championship. Following the indoor season we were able to travel to San Diego to get some quality warm weather work and competition under our belts to start the outdoor season. Captain Gomes, Vaughns
and Laut had impressive debuts for the men, while soph Lily Enes and first year Addison Coy got off to impressive outdoor openers. Last weekend many of our middle distance and distance athletes travelled to the Raleigh Relays where Reinhart and Masterson ran impressive times that will surely qualify them for the first round of the NCAA championship. We have so much to be grateful for, and I want to thank all of you who have supported the program and allowed us to do everything we need to, so that our team gets the first class experience and opportunities that lead to great performances. We can’t do it without your continued support, whether that comes in the form of our alumni mentoring network, your participation in our events or through your generous gifts to the program. We are approaching the best part of the year when the weather starts to improve (we hope!) and our season comes to a crescendo.
