I STARTED TRAINING IN KARATE WHEN I WAS 3 YEARS OLD AND IT TOOK ME 5 YEARS TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN MY BLACK BELT. TRAINING WITH MY DAD TOOK A LOT OF HARD WORK AND DISCIPLINE. HE IS TOUGH ON ME, BUT I KNOW HE ONLY WANTED TO PUSH ME AND TEACH ME TO BE THE BEST THAT I CAN BE. MY PARENTS WANTED ME TO DO KARATE, BUT MOSTLY I DID THIS FOR MYSELF AND MAKE THEM PROUD. KARATE HELPED ME BUILD CONFIDENCE BECAUSE WHEN I FIRST STARTED I WAS REALLY SHY. TAKING KARATE I LEARNED TO BE MORE CONFIDENT, RESPECTFUL TO PEOPLE, AND TO WORK AS A TEAM. WHEN I BECOME A BLACK BELT I WILL WORK HARDER TO BECOME A BETTER MARTIAL ARTIST AND TO SOMEDAY WIN A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AND BECOME BETTER THAN MY DAD. I LIKE TO LEARN HOW TO TEACH SOMEDAY AND HOPEFULLY HAVE MY OWN KARATE SCHOOL WHILE ALSO ATTENDING COLLEGE. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK MY TEAM MATES FOR TRAINING WITH ME FOR OVER 3 YEARS AND BECOMING MY FRIENDS. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK MR. PRUIETT, MS. JOYA AND ALL THE BLACK BELTS FOR TRAINING ME AND COMING TO MY TEST. LASTLY I LIKE TO THANK MY MOM AND DAD FOR PUTTING ME IN COMPETITION AND PUSHING ME TO WORK HARD IN CLASS AND NEVER LETTING ME GIVE UP!
Karate has been a great experience for me. I started karate when I was just 8 years old. I always thought that Karate was interesting and seeing a whole bunch of karate movies, later I asked my mom about learning all those cool tricks and punches. So one day we had just come back from school , my mom asked me and my brother if we wanted to do karate? We said yes, and that day we enrolled at TKO Martial Arts . At first I was shy and scared but at the same time happy that I was going to start karate classes. Later that day I was so happy and felt better because it was easy and fun! Master Nguyen began to train me and I started to noticed that I was getting stronger and more confident. Karate has showed me all different things like blocks punches and self defense. One of the most important things that I have learned is that I have to earn things in life.. My mom and Master Nguyen have always helped me understand that life is not fare and I have to work for what I want. My black belt is one of my goals I worked hard and now it’s finally coming true! When I get my black belt my first goal is going to help others and teach them what Master Nguyen had thought me. I want to help little kids and anybody that needs help. I also want to keep on practicing karate so I can be a better black belt and continue to promote as a Black Belt. I want to thank my parents for encouraging me to start karate and supporting me. I like to thank Master Nguyen and all the other black belts who helped me get this far by teaching and helping me. With out their help I wouldn’t be standing here today. I want to thank all the people that helped sponsor me, and making my dream to become a black belt come true!
I had some good times at TKO, and getting my black belt is going be a GREAT one! I started TKO martial arts because I wanted to learn something that is challenging, fun but yet difficult. I wanted to be focus on things that will challenged me and give me goals that I can try to reach. TKO martial arts changed my life and helped me in many ways. Physically, it helped me by making me faster, stronger and have better reflexes. Its also helped me mentally by making me think straight and making better decisions to keep me out of trouble. TKO martial arts impacted my life by teaching me discipline and hard work. A Black Belt means that I need to work hard and to push myself to the limit, and to never give up! I learned to be discipline and respectful towards others. By getting a black belt it represents that I achieved a goal, and that I have earned it though hard work! I know by getting a black belt, I will have earned respect with my martial arts family. I hope in the future to keep training in martial arts and maybe train in the MMA and make a name for myself. I like to thank my parents for supporting me in TKO and for investing in me, and helping me reach my goal to getting my black belt. I have trained hard and I feel that I deserve a black belt. I have even competed and always did my best win or lose. I hope to earn respect from all my instructors and like to thank everyone for helping me achieve my Black Belt! Thank you mom and dad for all you do for me!
Karate movies have always been my favorite things to watch at age six, so my parents enrolled me in Nguyen’s TKO martial arts! I was excited and nervous, but I wanted to learn. I really did not know much about karate only that there are different belts that a student could achieve over time, I understood that to earn a black belt it would take a lot of hard work, discipline, and patience. Martial arts has impacted my life in many ways by teaching me to always do my best and work hard. I made a lot of mistakes but realized that there is always room for improvements. With the help of my instructors I practice at the dojo to get better and stronger. It was important for me to practice hard, for I know this is how I can earn my Black Belt. ' To me a Black Belt is an accomplishment that comes after long hours of hard work and giving it my best It also represents everything that comes with believing in myself. When I first started I knew that one day I would reach my goal. I have trained hard to learn the skills. As a white belt, I trained hard to get to red belt in hopes of getting closer to my goal as a black belt. Today I hope to finish my journey and earn my black belt. I will train hard and discipline myself to practice hard. I have learned if you really want something you must believe in yourself ! Marital arts has become a huge part of my life and it has made me a better person. My experience will always be a huge part of my life. My future goal is to keep training and hopefully get more degrees in my black belt. I don’t want to stop learning. I will continue to train real hard and practice to keep on learning new things. I hope to be a teacher and be able to pass my knowledge onto others.
As we all know, bullying is a harsh part of life in school. Even the nicest private schools have bullying problems. I soon realized that I needed a way to defend myself and prevent issues in my life. Once I enrolled at TKO martial arts, it changed my life forever. It greatly impacted me and gave me confidence and made everyone around me respect me. All the bullying stopped, and I thank that to my martial arts training. I can feel safer than before for being a black belt will increase my confidence and make me stronger mentally and physically. Getting a black belt is not the end for me, I believe that one can never stop improving. This is a new beginning. How far I have come, the obstacles I have faced, and the dedication I gave to this school and with all the contributes to earning my black belt. My future goal as a black belt is to help teach and give back to my school by passing on the skills and knowledge that I was taught. This will keep me active and I know that I can make a difference in other peoples lives. Who I would like to thank for their love and support are God, and my parents. They've always been there for me through out my struggles and have supported me at my tournaments. They have kept me strong and proud of what I love doing . Without them I wouldn't have come this far in earning my black belt. I will continue training hard and never give up. I like to also thank Master Nguyen, students and all instructors for being part of my life!
I started to learn martial arts when I was in kindergarten. I rode the bus to school and older kids would pick on me. At that point, my parents decided to enroll me in karate so that I would learn how to defend myself. I turned five in January 2008 and began classes in March. I told the kids that picked on me that I was learning karate and began defending myself, by April I was not being bullied anymore. Martial arts has impacted my life in many ways. I have learned to be disciplined with myself and my things. I understand that I am responsible to know my katas, sparring, self defense, creative form, and weapon form. Therefore, I know the importance of practicing what Master Nguyen teaches in class. I am also accountable for being ready for class by having my uniform, belt, sparring gear, and weapon. Master Nguyen has taught me the significance of discipline, confidence, practice, respect, and responsibility. My parents have enforced those values in other areas, such as in soccer, swimming, and especially school. The opportunity to be a black belt means very much to me. It has taken three years of practice and many belt tests to reach this point. I am aware many people do not have the chance to learn a sport, and I believe I have been a lucky person. My parents were able to place me in a sport that I not only enjoy but is also very useful. In the future, after I acquire my black belt, I want to continue learning martial arts. I want to better my skills by practicing, taking other classes and learning other weapons. I want to be an example to other people. At some point, I would like to teach classes and show kids how to be confident and how to defend themselves. I also want to earn my second degree black belt and others as I grow older. Many people have helped me on my journey to becoming a black belt. I would like to thank Master Nguyen, Joseph, Jocelyn, and Jenny for teaching me what I know and keeping me on track. Thanks to my aunt Christina, my uncle Joe, Kirk, Catalina, Jonas, Salil, Rigo, Lluvia, and Aradi for sponsoring me in various events. I would also like to thank Nadia, Jorge, my aunt Christina, and my grandparents Angela and Rosalino for taking me to class when my parents were unable to take me. Finally, I want to thank my parents Enrique and Feliza and my brother Ethan. I know that my parents have encouraged and will continue to support me. I have formed many friendships and learned much in TKO. Martial arts is now part of my life and I will use what I have learned to become a strong, active, and productive individual. Thank you
My name is Javier. I am 9 years old. 3 years ago I started karate when I was just 6 years old. One day I asked my mom if she could register me in Karate classes, she said “yes”. Next day after school my mom took my sister and me to Master Nguyen School and signed us up. I was so excited, but at the same time a little bit nervous. I started to gain some confidence with myself, and in the end it all came out good. I learned all kind of stuff like punches, kicks, blocks, self defense, katas and weapons. When I was a white belt the karate classes weren’t hard, but when I got to the higher belts, the classes was much harder, but I never gave up. I put a lot of effort to know all the kicks, punches and blocks, and I made sure that I had them down. What inspired me to start karate was all the karate movies I watched with my family, and all the times I passed by the karate school and saw the class going on. I always told myself that I wanted to learn and do all those amazing moves. How martial Arts impacted my life was that I learned to defend myself by learning self defense in karate. Another way martial arts impacted my life was that I noticed that I stopped playing video games, and started practicing with my sister all the karate moves we learned. It also made me stronger, respectful and confident to myself. A black belt means a lot to me because it completes my goal in achieving a black belt. Its the belt that I have been working to earn since I started Karate. I am very proud of myself because the black belt has been my goal since I started 3 years ago. My future goal as a black belt is to open a Martial Arts School to teach everybody what Master Nguyen and other black belts have taught me. I also want to help Master Nguyen and the other black belts to teach the little and big kids. I want to thank my Mom and Dad for paying for karate and helping me with everything I needed and encouraging me to continue. I also want to thank Master Nguyen and the other black belts for teaching me everything I know, because without their help I wouldn’t be here right now. I also want to thank all the Black Belts that came out today to our black belt test. I also want to thank all my relatives and friends that came to support my accomplishments.
The first thing I want to say is that if it was not for my mom I would not be were I am today. I like to thank her for all she has done for me, spending time and money she doesn’t have and that is why I thank her. Martial Arts have impacted my life by putting challenges that most people may not know how to do. It has given me more strength, endurance, discipline and responsibility that I could not have gotten otherwise. Martial Arts have helped me to get the courage that no matter what, you do your best. I have gotten strength over the years by all the training and practices that my friends and I have been doing. My future goal as a martial artist is to continue karate so I can get better at what I do. For me, being a black belt is not something you put on, it is what you have learned in your mind and soul and the belt represents that. Why did I start Martial Arts? To fight back and defend myself in case I was attacked. I like to thank all the TKO instructors for training me and especially I like to thank Master Nguyen for all he have done in my journey in becoming a Black Belt!.
When I was young I always wanted to do karate because I watched Jackie Chan cartoon and there would be a Kung Fu fight in every episode. So then I started watching Karate movies and that was when I learned about Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris and I said to myself that one day I would like to be like them. When I left my home country, and came to the United States, my parents found out about Nguyen’s TKO Karate and entered me because they knew I loved karate. Ever since I started karate I noticed I was getting skinnier and was able to run faster and for a longer period of time. I was shocked by how I was getting more and more in shape, but my body was not the only thing changing. The longer I stayed in karate, the more confidence I gained and it also taught me how to resolve all my problems without using physical actions. I also gained more discipline in my every day life. For me, a Black Belt is all the time and effort I put in to karate, all those days I went to karate, all that hard work I did in the past three years just to come this far. A black belt is the beginning to a new story. The greatest trophy you can ever get. My primary goal when I started karate was to get a black belt, and now that I have reached that goal. I want to keep on learning and perfecting how to become a better martial artist. I want to become so good that many people will know who I am and one day become a world champion. When that happens I want to teach kids just like how I was taught. Last I would like to thank everyone that helped me reach this far: My mom for always cheering me on even if I was losing or winning, my sister for being there in all my tournaments, my brother for helping me train when I need it, Master Nguyen for teaching me everything I know and for all the help he gave me at perfecting all my stuff and all that time he spent on working with me, and last but not least, my dad. He would take me to karate every day, he would tell me what I did wrong so I can fix it, he always cheer me on and would always push me to do my best.
Hello my name is Christopher Romo I was six years old when I started martial arts. At first I was curious and my mom wanted me to know how to defend myself and to take a sport instead of just being at home watching television and playing video games. Before I tried martial arts I tried soccer but I quit because I really did not like it, then I tried martial arts and it got my attention. With martial arts I always learn something new. Martial arts impacted my life in many ways. It has made me a better person and made me much stronger. I use to be afraid to defend myself but now I am not afraid because martial arts taught me to be tough. Before I started martial arts I was not flexible, now I am able to do the splits and curl ups. For me the black belt means I have achieved every color belt without giving up and giving it my all. All the belts and hard work have taken me to where I am right now. It means I gave it my all and dedicated my time to achieving it. I would like to keep preparing myself and work extra hard to get my second degree black belt. After I get my black belt, I would like to help teach and pass my knowledge on to other students. I would like to thank God for giving me two great parents for supporting me and paying for my classes and tournaments. I also want to thank my sister for always coming to the meetings when my mom cannot make it. I also would like to thank my Uncle, Aunt, Mrs. Irma, Mrs. Pilar and Hugo for helping my mom drive me to karate when she could not take me. Lastly I want to thank Master Nguyen, Mr. Pruitt and Ms. Joya for dedicating their time to teach me, and preparing me for black belt. I learned to be disciplined, responsible, punctual and to follow instructions. Again thank you to everyone for making my dream come true.
In the summer of 2003, at the age of 9 wanting to learn how to protect myself, fight, and to interact with similarly minded people, I started in the American Society of Karate as a white belt in the Jr. class. Three years later, as a 3rd degree red belt and having received two Super Ace patches and the Most Outstanding Student awards, I entered the Sr. class as a yellow belt. During all this time, I competed in over 46 tournaments; and was lucky enough to have the opportunity to compete in the NASKA Lone Star Open in August of 2009. At this event, I also had the opportunity to see some of the world’s top competitors, such as Ross Levine and Regena Thompson. After much contemplation, I wanted to learn all of the martial arts, so I left ASK as a 2nd degree brown belt in May of 2010 and enrolled in Nguyen’s TKO. Martial Arts have impacted my life by teaching me the importance of pushing myself, never giving up, and not taking the easy way out. In addition, I developed a passion for the sport of martial arts and in particular point fighting. I am thankful for all of the fine people I have met and friends I have made over the years. They have supported, encouraged, and taught me to be a better person and martial artist. A black belt marks the graduation from the beginning as a white belt to a level of proficiency and the beginning as a black belt. Personally, a black belt means to me to be the start of extraordinary beginnings. It is my honor to be able to test and receive a Black Belt from such a prestigious and world-renowned school and instructor. In addition, I hope my journey to becoming a black belt will make me a better mentor and teacher to young children. Some of my future goals as a martial artist include becoming an exciting instructor and establishing my own karate school. I hope to instill a passion for martial arts in those just starting out and perhaps teaching in the Chuck Norris’s Kick Start program. Finally, I hope to compete in many more Super Grands and NASKA tournaments, as one of my most treasured moments was competing in the NBL 20th Super Grands in Sacramento, California. I would like to thank some of the many people who have helped me along my journey to being a black belt. First, I would like to thank my mom and dad for supporting me all these years and teaching me “IF YOU LOSE, SAY NOTHING; AND IF YOU WIN, SAY LESS.” Second, I would like to thank all the instructors that have helped me and pushed me through some of the hardest struggles of my journey, and to thank the many people who have cheered me on. Finally, I would like to convey a very special thanks to Master Nguyen for teaching, supporting, and coaching me. Master Pettway, for his tips on how to fight, and most significantly, for coaching me at the 20th Super Grands. Which without his help, I would not have taken 1st. place. I would like to thank my girlfriend, Heather, for supporting me and cheering me on at all the tournaments. Last and most importantly, I would like to thank the one person that helps me, pushes me, trains with me every day, and supports me in everything I do. He coaches me, works out with me, and is always there for me, my DAD.
