WHAT A WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR

As I write this I can almost feel the pace slowing down by the minute. Families are getting ready to take their much deserved holidays and others are just preparing to enjoy the quieter time at home. As the article on security tips for the holidays indicates, Centurion Residential Estate and Country Club have an outstanding crime free record so residents can go away at this time without the worry of what’s happening at home. We are grateful to our security staff who ensure that we can have peace of mind during the Festive Season. With the New Year looming, we are looking forward to a successful 2016. Interface will receive a renewed look and feel as we aim to bring you more lifestyle orientated editorials and we increase the distribution outside of the Estate. You would have noticed some changes in the last few issues indicative of the HOA and CCC’s efforts to work closely together to uplift the look and feel of the Estate. If you are travelling with your family these holidays, we wish you a safe journey. May your quiet time be at your ideal destination, sipping your favourite beverage, surrounded

by your most special people. This time of year is a great opportunity to recharge, reflect and re-commit to yourself – we trust you will return ready for another year ahead. With that, I leave you with a quote from Dr Seuss’s The Grinch who stole Christmas: And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, Stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more. ‘Till next month

FESTIVE

GREETINGS As this year draws to a close, it is with great excitement that we reflect on all the CHOA and CCC have achieved and what we are working towards for 2016. With the CHOA in good financial standing, we were able to upgrade both our guard houses this year. We are extremely proud of our security record and next year we will celebrate 20 years of Centurion Residential Estate and Country Club being in existence. A major highlight this year is our renewed relationship with the Sports and Social Club and we believe that with the new General Manager, Hans Jonck, we will see a new era of improved service and quality. The CHOA looks forward to installing solar lights along the walking trail and strategic areas next year and the Board is considering the approval of Telkom fibre to the home to be implemented early in the new year. From the CCC side, the implementation of the 19th Hole Pizzeria has been very successful. Our new Green Keeper, Jan Hendrik Duvenhage, has proven to show great determination and knowledge – we look forward to seeing what this Green Team are made of. Our newly improved and renovated Pro Shop has ensure that our members receive fantastic offers and service. Of course, the new point of sale system for golfer check-ins has been wonderful in speeding up this process and back of house reporting. In addition to all of this, we now offer a Sunrise Golf Membership exclusively for residents as well as a Midweek Golf Membership open to anyone.

Highlights this year included the long term provision made and soon to be implements for clean and sufficient water supplies as well as the opportunity to work closely with the CHOA on improving the ambience and experience of our Estate as a whole. In 2016 we look forward to upgrading fixtures and fittings in the club house, which will create a welcomed and convenient experience for both residents and members as well as looking at implementing a loyalty card program for both residents and members. On behalf of both the CHOA and CCC, we wish all the residents and members a well-deserved holiday and safe travels. May your festive season be filled with laughter, joy, peace, love and blessings for 2016. We look forward to welcoming you home.

Jaco Venter and Hans Jonck

SIKKEL’S

GOLF DAY Saturday, 28 November 2015, was the annual Sikkels Golf Day. This was the 9th year that we’ve had this annual golf day and it’s a day where Jannes Sik, the Head Professional of CCC, gets to say thanks to all the members for their loyal support throughout the year. Every golfer received a sleeve of Srixon Soft Feel and a Techni Block sunscreen. With fantastic prizes up for grabs, everyone tried their best in the Better Ball Stableford competition. A festive atmosphere with live entertainment by Maruis Strydom on the patio got everyone ready for prize giving. Congratulations to Bossie Boshoff and Lizelle Boshoff for taking top honours in my golf day winning themselves a Scotty Cameron Putter and a Pringle umbrella. The day was not finished after prize giving as the night golfers made themselves ready for a fun filled round of golf, yes it was time for Night Golf! The front nine transformed into a light spectical as it was set up for the night golf. This year saw all the golfers playing a PAR3 course over 9 holes. Congratulations to the winner, Werner from Protea Coin.

CAPTAIN’S REPORT

It is amazing to see how quickly the year has gone by. I hope that most of you will have the privilege of going away for the holidays and I sincerely hope everyone enjoys the Festive Season, and that you return ready for a great golfing year in 2016.

a round of night golf and contrary to the heat we have experienced this year, the evening turned out to be cold and windy, however, the fun associated with night golf was enjoyed by everyone and the evening turned out to be yet again, a great success.

We have had some of the worst drought conditions in years but the late rains in November brought some welcome relief to our golf course.

In November 2015 the final of the Matkovich Challenge between Centurion, Woodhill and Silver Lakes Golf Clubs took place. This Mercedes Benz trophy is always fiercely contested between the three clubs and going into the final round after the first 2 rounds, Centurion was marginally behind Woodhill with one point. The final round was then played at Silver Lakes and CCC played magnificently to win the event by 36 points. Congratulations to all of you that participated in this yearly event.

A special word of thanks to our new Greenkeeper, Jan Hendrik Duvenhage, as well as his assistant, Chris Botha, for all the hard work they have done. It was less than three months ago that we had unprecedented drought conditions, together with the limited water supply and to have the course in the condition we have it is testimony of their hard work. On 25 October 2015 the annual Captains Invitational took place at Highland Gate Golf course in Dullstroom. As per the previous year at Euphoria, we had a severe downpour which interrupted play but everyone still enjoyed the fabulous golf course in the Mpumalanga mountains and it is certainly high on everyone’s list to visit this magnificent course again. Our last Captain’s Challenge for the year took place on 27 October 2015 and this HOKAAI-sponsored event was well supported as always by all the club members. The winners for the day were I Mossop, W Mossop, B Mossop and C Roux. Congratulations to Wayne Mossop for hitting a hole in one on the third hole. On Saturday, 28 November 2015, we had the annual Sikkels Golf day hosted by our head professional, Jannes Sik and his team. The event was won on a superb score of 49 points by Bossie and Lizelle Boshoff. Well played to these two and they got to enjoy the awesome prizes Jannes had on offer. The day was concluded with

The final of the Mercedes Benz Centurion Betterball Challenge was played on 21 November 2015 and the winners of this event were Jaco Kriek and Pieter Jansen van Rensburg. Congratulations on winning the final - enjoy the prize of an advanced driving course with Mercedes Benz. The New Year will bring the start of many competitions, so please watch the notice boards as the entries for leagues and knock outs will be put up shortly. We shall resume with the monthly Captain’s Challenge on 31 January 2016 and I am looking forward to the challenges that the New Year is sure to bring.

GREENKEEPERS REVENGE

Wow‌ what a weekend! The Year End Festival took place on the weekend of 27 to 29 November 2015 - thanks to all our members and guests that took part and made this weekend great. We started off on Friday, 27 November 2015, with our annual Greenkeepers Revenge. This was Jan-Hendriks first Greenkeepers Revenge at CCC. This tournament was great fun and he had all of us guessing what was next, even with prize giving where the winner, Matthew Dennis, got a trophy for the day but all the prize winners was in the form of a lucky draw. Big thanks must go to Jan-Hendrik and the Servest team for making this day very special.

DESTINATION IRENE FESTIVITIES

I’m sure you’ve noticed that it’s been a while since you last heard a MOO from me but, as most of you moms will understand, life has been hectic since the addition of our latest calf. Life on the farm is really good but when Bill arrived home two weeks ago and announced that my MOO-ther-in-law and the extended family will be visiting for Christmas, my sense of hu-MOO-ur faded. What am I going to do with 8 extra family members for the holidays and where will they all stay? Our barn is not equipped to host so many!

14

Bill couldn’t understand my concerns and it was only when he reminded me of my favourite destination (Irene) that I calmed down and realised we were in good hands. I’ve booked us all into the African Pride Irene Country Lodge for the holidays as their all-in-one Family Fun package is too good to resist. The calves will be staying for free in their own interleading room and with fun-filled kids entertainment during the day, I don’t think we will see them much! The complimentary use of the Camdeboo Day Spa facilities is an added bonus ensuring Bill and I will enjoy the welldeserved break, and hosting the rest of the family will be a breeze. But we would like to spend a little time alone too, so Bill has booked us the Relax and Rejuvenate package to ensure our alone time is extra special. After our relaxing massages, we will be sure to enjoy each other’s company in the beautiful gardens whilst indulging in a summer fruit platter and some bubbly. My MOO-ther-in-law has offered to take the calves across the road to the Irene Dairy Farm whilst we enjoy our break as the calves DECEMBER 2015 / JANUARY 2016 | INTERFACE

have told her all about what a wonderful place it is for them to run around. The latest addition of their COW-utest jumping castles has got the kids super excited and MOO-ther-in-law can enjoy lunch whilst they tire themselves out. Of course, they would like to end off their visit watching the Irene Dairy cows being milked and MOOther-in-law is intrigued to see this too. Bill’s family were a little concerned about our Christmas Lunch but again, African Pride Irene Country Lodge came to the rescue. We have booked Christmas Lunch at the Meadow Green Restaurant and when the family HERD that the highlight of the day will be the skydiving Santa Clause and his elves, they were over the MOO-n. Coupled with the delicious menu, I’m sure this will be a Christmas Lunch to remember. The extended family have since done some research of their own on Destination Irene and they’ve sent me a list of other places and activities they would like to do. It seems I’m not the only one to appreciate all that Irene has to offer! And so our holidays are all sorted – let the countdown begin… It’s MOO-velous to be in touch again and I’ll be sure to keep you updated on a more regular basis from now on. MOO greetings,

SECURITY TIPS FOR THE HOLIDAYS

From my side (SSM) I would like to make use of this opportunity to thank each and every person associated with Protea Coin working at Centurion Residential Estate and Country Club. Your dedication and passion for our Estate is priceless. Taking into consideration over 9 000 entries per day through our main gate, the complaints we received was not even 1%. It is with great pleasure to announce that our last crime related incident occurred on 5 July 2012. Ever since then we have not experienced any crime related incidents. To our residents, enjoy the Festive Season and may you have a prosperous New Year, please return home safely. Please take into consideration the following as ‘Santa Crime’ is not going on leave this year - it is collecting and not giving!

Looking at the crime statistics the percentage for kidnapping, especially children, went up with approximately 5% over the last year.

• • • • • • • • • •

Stop all newspaper deliveries and ask a friend or neighbour to collect your post. A bulging post box is a dead giveaway that you are not at home. If hiring a house sitter, ensure that you teach them how to use your alarm correctly. Double check that you have locked and secured all windows and doors before leaving home. Never leave a key in the inside of an outer door which has glass panels or glass near the door lock. Having security gates fitted on outer doors is a highly effective security measure that gives you an extra line of defence. Sliding doors can be secured simply by placing a piece of timber cut to size in the sliding rail. Make sure that sliding doors cannot be lifted vertically. Have good exterior lighting, preferably on a timer. Do not leave tools like ladders or spades outside, as they can be used to break into your house. Clear signage indicating that you have security also helps to discourage burglars. Last but not least! Don’t forget about your best friend staying behind to safeguard your premises while you are away. Food and water is all they ask.

Kobus Blom

Safety & Security Manager

21

For children - everyday rules to keep them safe include: • • • • • • • •

Always walk or play with a friend or friends. Always walk along streets you know. Never take shortcuts through wooded areas or empty lots. If someone tries to grab hold of you or take you away, fight, kick and scream. Shout out: “Help! This is not my Mom or Dad!” Always tell your parents who you will be with, where you will be and when you will be home. Never talk to strangers, no matter how friendly they seem. Always stay at least an arm’s length away from a stranger. If you get separated from Mom or Dad in the store, go to the nearest sales person or uniformed security guard and ask for help. Never ever leave the store to go to the car or to look for Mom or Dad in the parking lot. If a car stops or slows down beside you, run fast in the direction from which the car came. Never get into a stranger’s car even if they say someone you love is hurt or if they say they are supposed to pick you up. Your mom and dad would never send a stranger to get you!

Additional personal safety tips for the holidays: • •

Advise your security company if you are going away and ensure that you supply all the necessary information regarding nearby key holders, in case of an emergency. Inform your neighbours of your holiday plans. INTERFACE | DECEMBER 2015 / JANUARY 2016
