From our General Manager One of the pleasures of the Festive Season is the opportunity to extend cordial greetings to all of you whose support and devotion we value so highly. This year, there have been, I hope, times of happiness and good cheer for most of us. In my experience, the positive value of a happy family is one of the factors of human existence that has not changed. The immediate family of grandparents, parents and children, together with their extended family, is still the core of a thriving community, and Centurion Residential Estate and Country Club is definitely a fine example of such a thriving community. It is also good to take a step back and look at the past year. The CHOA lost our Safety and Security Manager and 3 directors who retired, but also employed an exceptionally well equipped new Safety and Security Manager and elected 3 new passionate and skilled directors. We are also very thankful to all our members who support the Board and the
staff in a positive manner. It’s been a tough year but I’m proud of what we accomplished together as the economy is still struggling to recover.

REPORT CAPTAIN’s report And so December dawns on us and the countdown to Father Christmas’ visit begins. Many of you will be disappearing to the various corners of South Africa (and abroad) to relax and recharge for the New Year and so, may I take this opportunity to wish you all safe travels! For the rest of us that will be staying around for the majority of the holidays, have we got a magnificent course to play on or what? The condition of the course is tremendous and our heartfelt thanks must go the Petrie and his team. I have been privileged to not only host my companies annual golf day at Centurion, but also to play in the ‘Wings of Change’ golf day hosted by Darren Scott. I was both humbled and honoured to be a member of Centurion Country Club as all the people that I interacted with had nothing but positive things to say about the condition of our course, as well as the facilities that we have to offer. I wonder if we as members sometimes take it all for granted?
and those of you who have wanted to get involved, please will you put your names down on the lists that have been put up on the notice boards so that the respective captains can get a team together to fight the battle for Centurion!

REPORT CAPTAIN’s report
Where has this year gone?! I can’t believe I am writing my last article for 2012 already. Glad to say it has been an enjoyable year for me serving on the golf committee, we have had lots of events taking place throughout the year that, thanks to the support from the ladies, have been most successful. We still have a few events planned for November and December which I am sure are going to be enjoyed by all who take part in them. On 28 October 2012 the ‘Captain’s Invitational’ was hosted by Barry and Karen Robinson. 48 Of us met at the club house at 06h30 where we were welcomed with Champagne and Orange juice and then boarded a luxury coach and headed off to Legends Golf course. We all enjoyed a tough but enjoyable round of golf followed by a prize giving and dinner, and after a great day we boarded the coach and headed back to our much loved Centurion. the leagues throughout the season. The ladies from the Saturday league team were all awarded Silver Medals for winning the league this season. The ‘Most Valued Player’ for the scratch team went to Gina Switala; Thursday ladies league went to Anna-Marie van der Bijl; and Saturday league MVP went to two ladies Althea Oosthuysen and Hannelie Saaiman, these two ladies are quite a pairing as they have only lost one match in 2 seasons, quite a record, well done. The mixed league MVP went to Anna-Marie and Leen van der Bijl. That is the leagues wrapped up for this season, we can now look forward to a short break before the next season gets underway. The Saturday ladies league team were invited to the GNGU Awards Dinner that took place on 14 November 2012 at Services Golf Club, where we were awarded certificates for winning the league. It was a most enjoyable evening, we were treated to a very nice 3 course meal which was served during the prize giving. It was nice to see that the Gauteng North Ladies provincial teams are doing
so well, they picked up a couple of awards. There is still quite a few golfing events taking place between now and Christmas, please check the notice boards for more info on these events. Our Thursday ladies competition will close with prize giving on the patio after golf on Thursday 13 December for this year. The Thursday ladies competition will start again on the first Thursday in February 2013. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported my efforts on the committee this year, and to wish you and your families a wonderful Festive Season. If you are going away, which I am sure most of you are, enjoy your well-deserved break – I look forward to your safe return. CAPTAIN’S INVITATIONAL The Captains Invitational 2012 saw 48 enthusiastic golfers leaving the clubhouse parking area early on the morning of 28 October 2012. Breakfast and newspapers were served on the coach, rules of the day highlighting that only certain undisclosed holes would be in play and the usual betting banter quickly saw us arrive at the exclusive Legends Golf Course in Entabeni. Legends, famous for its 19th hole where you helicopter it up to a tee box on the mountain and play to a challenging green in the shape of Africa waaaaay below also offers an interesting Tribute course, the par three course where
tribute is paid to the famous par threes from various courses around the world however, it was the Signature course where each hole is designed by a famous golfer, that was to be our challenge for the day! The weather held out and the day on the course ended with welcome pre dinner sundowners under the trees. Supper and prize giving took place and Piet van der Westhuizen was the worthy winner of the trophy originally donated by Lefty Piagalis. Piet also won a great prize sponsored by Yamaha so sincere thanks to Yamaha and Guardian Peak for the generous sponsorship which contributed to the
