CAPTAIN’S REPORT Hi there everybody What bitter cold weather we have experienced lately! Well done to all those ‘die hard’ golfers that braced the freezing cold and wind, especially on Saturday 25 June 2011. Well, changes have been happening all round and the most obvious is the Pro Shop which, under Jannes’s expert management, has undergone a complete face lift to offer us, the members and the club, extra prestige and opportunity. Should you have thought that a warm up boxing ring replaced the comfy couches in the Pro Shop, take a second look and you will appreciate the state of the art facilities that have been introduced to ensure your clubs are fitted professionally and expertly, and in so doing improve your performance - all right here in our very own Pro Shop. The equipment that measures one’s swing speed and launch angle is called the Flightscope. It is a sensor that picks up the club angle and spin rate of the golf ball. The Swing Optimiser measures iron club head speed, kick angle and release factor. It will measure the distance you hit the ball and also whether you fade or draw the ball and it will tell you exactly what shaft is required for your irons. A fitting with no purchase will set you back a well invested R400.00 otherwise should you decide on one of the brands that the shop is specializing in ie. Callaway, Ping, Taylormade and Mizuno, there is no cost.
Jannes, Jonathan and Hans are all PGA Professionals who can do fitment and offer advice. Jonathan Peach has worked at Leeukop Golf Club and is currently in his third year of his PGA Apprenticeship and although he only started playing golf seven years ago, he represented Damelin Campus at the University Interprovincial competition in 2005. Hans Jonck was with Llewellyns Academy before he joined the Pro Shop team and remains a very dedicated golfer who plays off a scratch and practises at every opportunity. It’s also time to discard the myth that the Pro Shop is more expensive and give the guys the opportunity to discuss your needs with them. You will be surprised how accommodating and knowledgeable they are and in turn you will be supporting your club. The exciting River Runs Through It competition takes place over the weekend of 15 to 17 July 2011 and as you know, the competition initiated by Steve Joubert has been a great success over the past few years when Irene Country Club, Zwartkop CC and ourselves who share the Hennops River engage in three days of varied formatted golf based on the Ryder Cup. For those who have made themselves available, the very best of luck. We look forward to bringing home the trophy! Club Knockouts are in full swing however a very sad year for the Ladies division who had their Knockout tournament cancelled due to insufficient support. Rethink this Ladies and prepare for Knockout fun next year. This should be something we look forward to and enjoy. Yes it is taken seriously, but it is also a privilege to enjoy the competition amongst each other when you play against each other socially anyway. Also, it is every member’s duty to participate and support club events whenever possible. If there are any valid reasons why this has happened, please bring them to my attention to be addressed. Good luck to everybody else participating! We are very privileged to host the GNGU Women’s Open which will see all the top ladies in the country in action between 3 and 7 July 2011. Trust this will be a wonderful tournament and while we wish everyone a great tournament, we will be rooting for our Centurion ladies. Other changes include the new management team and my sincere congratulations to Hennie le Roux in his new capacity as president of CCC. Hennie is supported by Pieter Fourie who will take care of Finance and has been appointed as Vice President, with Joey du Toit taking over from a very capable Hilmar Venter on grounds. Anne Adelaar was appointed to oversee house and Edwin Nel will embark on marketing the club more aggressively. Good luck to you all. I represent the Golf section on this committee and of course Errol Hart represents General Management of the club. Well let’s look forward to a change in weather soon, while the ball runs further on these dry fairways, I am looking forward to the lush green of the summer. Till next month Barry Robinson

In the Oxford Dictionary the definition for closet is: ‘a small or private room, a cupboard or recess, shut away, especially in private conference or study’. The word ‘confession’ may bring forth feelings of apprehension and pressure. The Oxford Dictionary defines the word ‘confession’ as: ‘Acknowledgement or admittance of a fault or wrongdoing. Bringing tension and possible feelings of rejection that may occur because of this information shared. Confessions can often be helpful; opening new ways of thinking and can contribute to alternative knowledge’s about people; their likes and dislikes’. The items in your closet may confess to not always sleeping in their own safe space or not often seeing the daylight. Shoes may try to communicate their lack of willingness to be tossed over the floor or placed in hanging caddies! The use of dividers or lovely little boxes for jewelry, the folding of scarves neatly in their drawers might take the ‘ouch’ out of opening closet doors. Your closet will love to confess to the attention of knowing what fits with what and being introduced to new items in an appropriate manner. Add belts and accessories next, then introduce the shoes to the outfit and voila! Your closet should be edited; it should contain amazing items that inspire you. Andree Putman said: “I love America, and American women, but there is one thing that deeply shocks me… American closets. I cannot believe one can dress well when you have so much”. I would be one of those American women who would have to confess that I don’t exactly have just a few items in my closet nor is it a small space. My best closet confession however is that I have a cat in my closet. Literally! She (need I say more!) like I do, treats my closet as a treasured haven, our safe space where things are peaceful and beautiful!

Style and image support (retainer base) Are you are too busy to shop for yourself and need support; I am also available on a retainer bases: • 3 month / 6 month / 9 month /12 month retainer contracts available. For whichever of these retainer contracts you choose:

KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOUR Pieter and Elna Fourie The Fouries were one of the first 20 families that moved into the Estate in July 1997. They still fondly remember the camaraderie that existed between residents during those early days. Even though a lot has changed and some of the neighbourliness has disappeared, they still believe that this is the best place on earth to live and to raise children! Pieter was a member of the task team that was formed to establish the Centurion Residential Estate Sports and Social Club, and to negotiate the acquisition of the golf course from the developers. He was later appointed to the first Management Committee of the Club. This year Pieter was re-elected to the Management Committee as Vice-President of the Club.

The Fouries love spending quality time together - travelling as a family (especially skiing and cruising) or just spending weekends in the bushveld at Zebula. Pieter and Elna believe that their biggest achievement in life is that they are true friends with their three children – Derick, Jean and Christle. Christle is still living at home and is studying BSc at Tukkies. Even though Derick and Jean have been out of the house for a number of years, you will regularly see them socialising with their family on the patio of 73 Centurion Drive.
Early in 2002, Pieter (then MD of Lafarge Cement in South Africa) was promoted to their head office in Paris. While conquering the French language was somewhat challenging, the Parisian lifestyle suited them well, but not as well as the Centurion Golf Estate! Late in 2003, they moved back to their new house on the first fairway. Pieter is currently the CEO of Sephaku Cement, the first new clinker producing entrant to the South African cement industry since 1934 and his wife, Elna, is a professional Property Principal Group (PPG) would love to welcome or introduce new or existing residences every month on our ‘Know your neighbours’ page.
