Use of traffic circles inside the Estate Some of the comments returned as part of the recent resident satisfaction survey indicated an element of uncertainty as to who has the right of way at our internal traffic circles. The roads on our Estate are public municipal roads and all municipal by-laws and standard traffic rules apply. All the circles on the Estate are marked with the R2.2 sign classifying them as mini-circles (Refer to http://www.circles.org.za/ for more information)
Mini Circles (Regulatory Sign R2.2) Yield at Mini Circle The yield at mini circle regulatory sign R2.2 imposes a mandatory requirement that drivers of vehicles approaching a mini circle shall yield right of way to any vehicle which will cross any YIELD LINE marking at such junction before them, and which, in the normal course of events, will cross the path of such driver’s vehicles, and that the driver shall move in a clockwise direction in such junction and attempt not to encroach on the mini circle.
In Plain English Essentially what this means is that the first vehicle to cross the line has the right of way. This works in much the same way as a four way stop.
Who has the right of way? Example In the example Vehicle 2 has the right of way even though Vehicle 1 is to the right. This is because Vehicle 2 has crossed the line first. The larger traffic circle or roundabout are marked with the R137 sign

Roundabout These are only found outside the Estate. The roundabout regulatory sign R137 imposes a mandatory requirement that drivers entering a roundabout shall turn to the left and shall travel round the roundabout in a clockwise direction, and it imposes a mandatory requirement that drivers entering a roundabout shall yield rightof-way to traffic approaching from the right, within the roundabout, where such traffic is so close as to constitute a danger or potential danger.

y REPORT d a L CAPTAIN’s report This is an extract from my report presented at this year’s AGM on 24 April.

This report is for the period May 2012 to April 2013
Last year I tried something new moving the ladies Thursday Competition to an afternoon field during the cold winter months. This proved successful as unlike previous years we had enough ladies playing each week to run a competition during the winter months. As from June 2013 we will once again, move to the afternoon field. Returning to the morning field from 1 September 2013.
Results Club Championships: Ladies Club Champion for 2013 is Helena Mowatt. Bronze winner, Kayleigh Mc Kee; Copper winner, Brigitte Laurent; Ladies Veterans Champion for the 2nd year running, Rosa Lombard. Champion of Champions was won by Marliza Annandale. Ladies Leagues: Saturday league had an excellent season winning the league. Our Thursday league lost in the play-off’s against Silver Lakes. Mixed league were runners up. The Sanlam Cancer Challenge: The ladies A division was won by Helena Mowatt, B division was won by Debbie von Plato, the C division won by Henriette Roux. This year’s Sanlam Cancer Challenge is being played on Saturday, 8 June 2013. The Ladies Knock out results for 2012: Ladies single’s k/o won by Joey du Toit, the doubles k/o was won by Sue Smith and Elize Visser. The Mixed knock out was won by Hayley and Alan Mendes. The ladies Match Play Champs is being played on 27 April 2013. Annual Charity Golf Day The annual ladies charity golf day took place on 9 August 2012 - Woman’s day. This is an annual event to raise money for the less fortunate in our area. This was very well supported by our members as well as visitors, we had a full field. Herman Minnie spent the entire day at the 8th tee box showing us amateurs how to play the 8th for a small fee, this raised R2000, thanks Herman for giving up your time to help make this day a success. An amount of R35 800.00 was raised. The full amount was donated to Irene Homes for the Mentally Handicapped and Animals in Distress. Both organisations where very grateful and send their appreciation to all at Centurion CC who made this possible. Each year the ladies committee host a Christmas lunch for the ladies of the Irene Homes for the mentally handicapped. This is for the ladies that are unable to go home and spend Christmas with their families for whatever reason. Centurion Country Club donates the lunch as well as a small gift to each lady. We normally have 40 ladies attending the function. I am honoured to host this event and to see the gratitude shown by these ladies is just so heart-warming. Ladies Thursday Competition
It has been decided to give our Thursday Ladies a name, that being the ‘Early Birds’. We have had a logo designed which is being put on our new light blue shirts. We will now be easily recognised on a Thursday and this will make us stand out as a ladies group. Thanks Jannes for helping arrange the shirts and agreeing to stock them at your pro shop. The ladies section has enjoyed a sponsorship from the Spar in Jean Ave Centurion owned by a keen golfer Carol-Anne Ferreira. The Spar sponsorship enabled us to host Mini Opens which have been very popular and we have excellent turn outs filling all the time slots that we allocate with our members as well as ladies from golf clubs as far afield as Johannesburg, Benoni and Krugersdorp. The caddies also benefited from this sponsorship as the Spar put together a very nice food hamper as part of their social responsibility programme. The caddies food hamper was handed out during one of our Mini Opens. Mixed Open Our annual Mixed Open was played at the end of January 2013. It was a morning field followed by Sunday lunch and prize giving, it was once again a full field of 110 players, we welcomed visitors from clubs near and far. I would like to thank the golf committee for agreeing to my request after a vigorous debate to put a ladies senior tee on hole 8, this has made a huge difference to our senior ladies who could no longer carry the water on the 8th, they can now enjoy the round of golf knowing that they have a chance of getting onto the green on the 8th hole. For those of us that don’t use it as yet I am sure one day we too are going to be grateful for this ladies senior tee. Dee Meredith and myself assisted Jannes this year at the men’s club champs by doing the starting, although it was an early start each morning being on the tee box from 06h25 ready to get the men off on time it was most
enjoyable. We shared many chirps and laughs with the guys before they teed off, a great way of getting to know our male club members and for them getting to know the lady committee members. In closing I would like to take this opportunity to firstly thank Barry Robinson, our Club Captain, for all his effort, hard work and valuable contributions that he has made to our golf club in the 7 years that he served on the committee. I had the pleasure of serving on the committee with Barry for the last 3 years. I now look forward to serving on the committee with the new elected club captain Hamish McKee and members Tilla and Phoebus. Dee Meredith has resigned from the committee after serving one year due to the fact that her and her husband are relocating. Dee’s contributions’ to the ladies section are sure going to be missed. I would like to welcome Tilla Janssen. Tilla has kindly made herself available to serve on the golf committee, I am sure Tilla is going to make a valuable contribution and bring in some fresh ideas to our ladies section. I look forward to working with her as I am sure we are going to make a good team. Sue Smith is the ladies league coordinator. Sue has been running the league for the last two years and is doing a fine job. As I start my second year as Lady Captain I would like to say a huge thank you to Errol Hart who has given me much guidance on how to run things as lady Captain. Jannes, Hans and the team in the pro shop, guys you are just such a great help to me and nothing is ever too much trouble for you. To Nicola I want to say a very special thank you as it is Nicola’s continued help, advice and support that enables the Mini Opens, ladies opens, the Ladies Charity Day, our ladies functions on the patio after golf just to mention a few things, happen. I would not be able to do it without all Nicola’s help. It doesn’t matter how many times I call or e-mail Nicola she is always willing to assist me and it is done with a smile, thanks I do appreciate your hard work. To Amarille and her staff, I would like to thank you for always providing our ladies functions with a great meal and for always having the dining room looking so good, you always do the ladies section proud. CAPTAIN’s report Time certainly flies, and to consider that we are on the brink of winter already suggests that Christmas will be upon us before we know it. We will be using the winter period to make some changes to parts of the course and in particular, looking at levelling the tee boxes in

readiness for the summer months. I would ask that all the members bear with us during this time as the results will be for all our benefit. Pretty much all the Gauteng North leagues are in full swing at the moment and the results so far have been varied to say the least. One of the biggest issues is the unavailability of players. I would urge anyone who would like to represent Centurion in the various leagues that we play in to put their names down so that we have a wider pool of players to draw from. It is embarrassing when we have to forfeit a game due to a lack of players and more importantly, puts us on the back foot in terms of the result.
