REPORT CAPTAIN’s report The club remains a hive of activity as the year hurries to a rapid close and I’d like to thank all who have made so much possible over the past few months for their commitment and support. The league and knockouts have all been concluded with the ladies Saturday morning league emerging victorious! Well done ladies, we look forward to celebrating your efforts together at a league spit braai this month. Thank you to all who coordinated and of course to all who participated. We may not win them all but we certainly give it a go! Well done also to the Bronkhorsts, Johan en Ruan, well deserved winners of our Chip off the Old Block tournament and loyal supporters of Centurion Country Club! On the course, the bossie program continues as the scarifying of the fairways is completed. The new distance markers have all been installed and the trees that were donated will soon be planted while the seniors tee on number 9 still needs to be rubberised. Tee levelling at the 3rd and 7th holes will commence and an aerator for the dam at the mashie cause is to be investigated since it has become very green. All in all, a stout effort to maintain the course in the good condition that we find it in so thank you once again to the green keeper and all involved and thanks as well to all the dog lovers who adhere to the leash and poop scoop dog rule, with a few exceptions. We also have much to look forward to as the Captains Invitational will take place at Legends Golf Course this year. Once again it is a privilege to be associated with a group of players that represent CCC and enjoy a day of golf together. Then as part of our Golf Festival 2012, we can look forward to the Greenkeepers Revenge on 23 November 2012, followed by Sikkels Day/Night golf day (a must for anyone who has not done this before) and on Sunday 25 November 2012, we enjoy our Mixed Open in the morning field. Great golf is happening right here at Centurion so please support your club. We at Centurion are also very proud to be associated with a coach amongst coaches. While Llewellyn van Leeuwen quietly gets on with the business of coaching on our range, the University of Pretoria saw fit to award him with Honorary Colours for Sport from UP. Congratulations! Llew’s accolades, for this year only, extend the amount of space I have to share but it seemed fitting to highlight just a few achievements that earn Llewellyn our respect. In 2012 alone, Llewellyn was the National

He also was the National Coach for the team representing South Africa at the Junior World Cup in Japan 2012 – not a first and his student’s achievements are astounding. To mention but a few, SA number one amateur lady, Kim Williams and SA number one amateur man, Brandon Stone amongst other achievers such as Magda Kruger, Nobuhle Dlamini, Daniel Slabbert, Ruzanne vd Walt, Alana v Greunen, Teaghan Gauche, Zander Lombard, James du Preez, Jaques van Tonder and Graham van der Merwe who have all achieved during 2012 under Llewellyn’s coaching. Plus our very own Darren Fichardt who won the Saint Omer Open on the European Tour this year and of course my very own personal swing! So it makes very good sense that Llewellyn has just recently been voted as the PGA Teaching Pro of the year for Gauteng North and greater Gauteng North. Well done Llew and much appreciation for your association with CCC and the effort and dedication you put into our youth and the game. On that note, here’s to a wonderful month of golfing on our very special course and while the summer rains are welcome, may the river continue to flow past the 7th and allow us to enjoy the game. REPORT CAPTAIN’s report

It’s been quite a wet start to the summer, this is both good and bad for our beautiful golf course. The heavy summer rains have seen the river come down in flood a couple of times already this past month, but a big ‘thank you’ has to go to Pietrie, Igor, Joey and all the ground staff for their hard work in getting the golf course back to its pristine condition in the shortest time possible. As members we really do appreciate the hard work that goes in to keeping the golf course looking as good as it does all the time. Our Ladies Saturday league played the final against Silver Lakes a couple of weeks ago, Centurion won so are the 2012 GNGU champions, well done to all the ladies that were part of this winning team. The ladies leagues are now complete for this year. Thanks to Sue Smith for being the league coordinator this year, you did a great job Sue. Dee Meredith will be taking over the roll as league coordinator next year. Any lady wishing to play league next year must please watch the club notice board at the beginning of January as the leagues will be starting a little earlier next year. Our league braai will be taking place at the club on 8 November 2012. All the club knock outs that involve the ladies section are now complete. The last knock out to be played was the Mixed knock out Final which was won by Alan and myself, Elize Visser and Wessel Theron are the runners up. Yesterday saw the ‘Bessie Whales’ ladies Open being played at Irene CC. The lady captain of Irene CC, Winnie Ingram, once again did a fine job in hosting the open. It was nice to see so many of our Centurion ladies there supporting our neighbouring club.

Centurion Ladies League Team Carol-Anne Ferreiria from the Jean Avenue Spar has once again offered to sponsor a Mini Open for us on 22 November 2012. The format is 4 ball alliance, a format that is enjoyed by all. Any lady wishing to play in the mini open please call Nicola (012 665 9601) to book your tee time. The Centurion Mixed Open will be taking place on Sunday 25 November 2012, it will be a morning field followed by prize giving and Sunday lunch. Bookings can be made with Nicola or in the Pro Shop. This Sunday sees another Captain’s invitational taking place being hosted by Barry and Karen Robinson. This year we are going on a coach trip to ‘Legends’ golf course, it is a day on the calendar that Alan and I really look forward to. More on the events of the day in next month’s report. On Thursday 29 November 2012 the ‘Thursday Ladies’ will swap our golf shoes for our party shoes and head off to River Meadow Manor for our year end celebration. It is a beautiful venue and weather permitting, lunch will be served on the lawns under the trees. Dee and I look forward to sharing this day with all the ‘Thursday Ladies’. Till next month
