Rules for home owners on the use of the golf course
GENERAL INTEREST
The following rules have been drawn up based on the original rules issued by the Home Owners Association that have been distributed to all the residents. Note that the rules are being put into place so that golfers and residents can enjoy the golf course. Please note that golfers always have priority on the course. Golfing hours are defined as from the first tee off time at 06h34 to the end of the day’s play. This could be as late as 19h00 especially in the summer months. Residents may enjoy the golf course for the purpose of walking and jogging, they must however exercise caution. The established walking trail has minimum interference from golfers however walkers should be aware when crossing playing paths of golfers. The Club will in no way be responsible to its members or visitors for any losses sustained by them or any injuries to them of whatsoever nature, occurring on the grounds or property of the Club by its servants, employees or otherwise. This implies that the onus will always be on the non-golfer to ensure his/her safety when walking or jogging or otherwise using the golf course. Please note further that the liability for the consequences of injury sustained on or near the golf course shall rest with the injured person. The home owner, when purchasing their home, automatically becomes social members of the Clubhouse and not full members. They are entitled to make use of the Clubhouse, with its facilities, squash courts and tennis club but this does not entitle them to use the golf course. All persons playing golf on the course must have reported to the Pro Shop. The player will receive a slip with confirms that he is entitled to be on the course. Members who have guests at the Clubhouse or on the course are responsible for his behaviour and his dress. Children are to exercise caution when using the roads and parking area around the Clubhouse as accidents easily occur. Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, motor bikes, roller blades and 4-wheelers are not permitted on the golf course at any time. The parking of vehicles on the golf course will not be permitted. Golf carts are not to be driven, on the course, by persons younger than 16 years. Carts hired from the Club are only to be driven by persons older than 18 years. Carts are not permitted on the course when the course is closed and after sunset. Carts are also prohibited after heavy rain or flooding to prevent damage to the course. Cart users are also requested not to cross areas demarcated by white rope. Although the playing of other games is not permitted on the course, the Club Committee has no objection to children kicking balls or playing cricket on the course but the golden rule is that the tee boxes, greens and bunkers are absolute no go areas at all times. It is requested of parents to please have a responsible person controlling these activities on the golf course. These activities are only allowed once the golfers have completed play, in that area, for the day. Practising on the golf course is not permitted at all. Any member wishing to play a few holes after work must communicate with the Pro Shop. Children are not permitted to play, run etc on any putting green or bunkers. As a rule no dogs are allowed on the course however once again when walking the dogs, they must be kept on a leash as they tend to disrupt all bird life particularly the guinea fowl and the kiewiet. Should any excrement be deposited on the golf course it is expected of the proud owner to remove it immediately. Please note that the dogs that make a nuisance of themselves will be sent to the pound at the SPCA for the owners account. | OCTOBER 2011 | pg 6
From an environmental management point of view please note the following. Swimming pools backwash water may not be channelled onto the golf course but into the storm water system. The fauna and flora, of any nature, may not be chased, trapped or damaged in any public place especially the golf course, be it by people or by dogs. No rubble is permitted to be left on the golf course, in front of homes. Picnicking will not be allowed on the golf course, especially not next to the river. Should a homeowner wish to beautify the area between his yard and the golf course (behind the out of bounds stakes) he must first submit a plan to the Club Manager, who will obtain the necessary approval. The Management Committee reserves the right to make exceptions to these rules under certain circumstances. These exceptions will be published in the Interface as they occur. If clarity is needed on any of the above, any member or resident is requested to contact the Club Manager on 012 665 0279 for an explanation.
Guard bonuses 2011 It is that time of the year again when Christmas gifts and decorations appear in the stores and for me to start my yearly appeal on behalf of our guards. We have had a rather ‘busy’ year on our Estate and as a result many changes have taken place…new faces, new procedures and new challenges. It took some getting used to the very friendly greetings on leaving or entering the Estate. These unfamiliar faces are becoming familiar and soon the names to these faces will add to the friendly greetings. Hopefully in the New Year we will be formally introduced to our new guards in the Interface. Many of our residents might ask why I am again appealing to you for a donation for our guards after the crime problems we have experienced this year on our Estate. I strongly believe that a small token of our appreciation towards the new guards will go a long way towards strengthening our relationship with them. The donations are totally voluntary and any amount is welcome. The Board of the Homeowners Association is adding an amount of R15 000.00 to our appeal, depending entirely upon the performance of the guards which will be awarded based on an evaluation of the crime statistics of the last six months of the year. Please pay the amount into the HOA account and as a reference please state ‘Guard bonuses’ and your stand number. I thank you for your participation in this annual endeavour of mine.

CAPTAIN’S REPORT This month the Junior League team have done us proud by beating Zwartkop in the home leg of the finals and drawing to Zwartkop away, making them overall winners of the Junior League for 2011. This group of youngsters who range from young Ruan Oostehuizen (10 years old) to their experienced captain Brendon Mossop, have shown commitment, loyalty and determination and have achieved all this by bringing home the title. Thank you guys. All your efforts and that of your parents which made this possible are much appreciated.
Well this is not entirely true for two special members who have become part of the elite ‘Hole-in-One’ club. Well done Hannelie Saaiman for getting it just right on hole number 8! And Brendon Mossop showed Zwartkop during the home leg of the final just how it is done on hole number 14! No mean feat on a par four – a Hole in one and an Albatross! Great stuff both of you – how good it must feel. The rest of us won’t give up - watch this space. The bunkers on the second nine have been completed, the fairways prepared for the anticipated rain and in general the summer program is well under way. So together with Joey and Petrie, and the rest of the grounds committee we can look forward to a superb summer course. A very special milestone birthday was celebrated on 26 September so from the committee and members, Gods richest blessings always and very best wishes to Errol on his 60th Birthday.
Junior League: Juniors involved in the league were - C Arroyo, B Mossop, D Volkwyn, R Claassen, R Bronkhorst, E Nel, R Oosthuizen, A Piagalis, A Naude, C Ferreira, S Vandrau, J Diedericks, J Morris.
Good luck to those still playing knockouts and thank you to all those who enthusiastically accepted the invitation to the Captains Invitational. Surprisingly, none of those that felt excluded previously were able to make it this year, however, we are looking forward to a great day together on a pristine, championship course and since it is my last opportunity to host an Invitational, I thank you for the opportunity of making it a special way for me to end my term as Captain of this club. As the year is speedily running its course, I thank you all for your very valued support and look forward to seeing you on the course. Till next time
The Telkom PGA has come and gone and my sincere thanks to our security, greenkeeper staff, the caddies and marshalls, guys in the Pro Shop, Nicola, Amarille for the catering and the long hours put in by Errol Hart and his staff that made this event top class.
Barry PS: Why does a golfer wear two pairs of pants?
The tournament was featured on television and reiterated the positive comments and high rating the playing professionals had commented on. I feel so privileged to live on the Estate as well as Saaiman be a member of the club and what’s more, I was Hannelie fortunate enough to play with our own Darryn Fichardt to see exactly how things are done. What a pleasure to see great golf in action first hand. Well done Darryn and best of luck for the rest of the tour!
In case he gets a hole in one!
The regular members have been doing equally well and what a great turn out for the Chip-off-the-Old-Block Competition. Well done to Lefty Piagalis and his son, Avgerinos, for winning the competition and thank you to all the others who took part. It was awesome to see some new faces. There’s no competition without participation. It really was a good morning, well arranged by Marianne, Jannes and Nicola so thank you all for your special efforts. “Golf is great, why just yesterday I was only 2 strokes away from a hole-in-one..... Dum De Dum Dum.”
Brendan Mossop

LADY CAPTAIN’S REPORT Centurion hosted a very successful fundraiser this month and a big thank you to all our players and sponsors. A wise man once said: Anyone can play golf so what’s the trick? Now this is a game that we are all passionate about. So why do we often play it like we are seriously retarded and have got 12 fingers and 20 toes? Sometimes our scores if converted to Rands and Cents could make us a millionaire, maybe not quite, but you know what I mean. Because playing golf is so simple we often go to the golf professional just in case we are missing some small point. Unlikely, but you never can tell. Imagine our surprise when he started to show us what we should be doing. It was like a totally new game! Lesson number one was the correct swing. When you swing your club you should end up with your belt buckle facing the hole. That was a surprise… Maybe if we tried that we would hit the ball further and more consistently. We would be using the rotation of our body to generate distance instead of trying to hit the cover off the ball! ...that makes sense… So we try all the ‘new’ ideas and guess what, it actually works. (Just goes to show golf professionals know almost everything). Maybe this explains why the best wood in some amateurs’ bags is the pencil! Success in this game depends less on strength of body than strength of mind and character. - Arnold Palmer Marianne Fraser
CHARITY DAY – 9 August 2011 The total raised at this charity day was R34 000. This money was transferred to HelpNet Home for abused woman and children, and to the Irene Homes.
ANDRIES WINS GOLD AGAIN! Andries van der Merwe, a resident on our Estate, recently competed in the Commonwealth Youth Games. He won the gold medal for the 110m hurdles in a personal best time of 13.32s. It was the fastest time ever recorded by a South African, but due to the wind conditions, cannot be recognised as a South African record. He was also part of the 4 x 100m relay team who also won Gold with a new South African record. As the only World Champion in the SA team at the Games, Andries was given the honour of leading the team onto the field at the official opening – what a special moment! Congratulations Andries, we are proud of you!

Wardrobe
“Once upon a time…”
A girl had dresses and dresses and dresses… and when she opened her closet doors she complained she had nothing to wear! This may quite well be your story or you may even be the girl that never wears dresses. Although I can’t imagine that any girl’s eye doesn’t get caught by a pretty dress; with a wishful longing for a glimpse of herself… That’s the thing about dresses, they actually possess the ‘it’ factor. If you want to dress to impress, save time or just feel spoilt, wear a dress. There are no separates to coordinate and you look instantly elegant. If you want to be creative a dress can act as a blank canvass. You can add a blazer, cardigan or leather jacket and do not forget the TDF’s; shoes and bags. The right dress is an investment in your wardrobe and in yourself. Different dresses a girl should consider: Wrap dress as introduced by Diane von Furstenburg. It is fitted and flatters most body shapes. Shift dresses are simplified dresses with understated waist definition. Its hem is just above or below the knee and it’s often sleeveless. Strapless dresses might be fitted or full, short or long. Sheath dresses are smartdresses; comparable to the shift but more close-fitting with a nipped in waist and knee-length hem. A-line dresses have side seams that gently flare down to the hemline; giving it an ‘A’ shape. Empire style dresses have a high waistline that sits just above the bust. Halter dresses are usually backless and ties at the back of the neck. Bias-cut dresses means the fabric is cut diagonally; allowing the dress to naturally follow the body’s curves. Asymmetrical dresses have a one- shoulder neckline or uneven hem that dips on one side. Shirtdresses are inspired by the silhouette of a man’s button-front shirt. Full dresses have a fitted upper body combined with a pleated full skirt. For me memorable dresses are the dresses that captured certain moments in time and provided mesmerising insights into the people who wore them as well as the people who designed them. Remember Marilyn Monroe in her white Travilla dress that she wore in The seven year itch, Audrey Hepburn in her LBD in Breakfast at Tiffany’s designed by Givenchy, Princess of Wales Wedding dress as well as the wedding dresses of Grace Kelly and recently Catherine Middleton. Princess Diana’s revenge dress, by Christina Stambolian, created a dramatic effect and a galaxy dress by Roland Mouret is definitely on my wish list!
