not attend a legislative session to speak about bills being considered without an invite. He explained that was simply not true. The opportunity to ask the Senator questions was then afforded to the Commissioners. Judge Moore and the Commissioners voiced questions and concerns about the disadvantages S.B.10 causes by disallowing them to have a knowledgeable lobbyist represent Fannin County during a Legislative Session. Senator Hall responded that it does not keep Texas Association of Counties (TAC) attorneys from relaying information and when asked by Judge Moore what it restricts them from doing, he answered, from lobbying us. He said because they are lobbyists, they would not be allowed to speak but that it would not prevent an elected official from Fannin County speaking. Senator Hall further explained that lobbyists can represent several counties and have been known to lobby on both sides of an issue. He said a benefit to come out of S.B.10 would be a line of communication opened between the counties and their legislators to speak directly to each other. When asked who could be sent to Austin to speak for Fannin County, Senator Hall replied, a county employee or an elected official of the county could speak as long as they don’t meet the criteria or have to register as a lobbyist. Whether he was in the isles of his sister’s Smith, Moore & Williams hardware store, cleaning up a spill in our Walmart, dressing up as a children’s favorite character at Christmas or Easter, serving others at our local food pantry, or serving meals to his fellow veterans in our Bonham VA; he served us all with a smile and a bit of knowledge we’re sure to never forget. Curly always had something interesting to say in his eccentric ways of thinking. So imagine his family’s surprise to find, he is still speaking to us today through handwritten journals! Living in Fannin County majority of his 82 years, Curly’s outgoing nature was what small town America is all about.

Commissioners 2/16/21 Continued from page 1 Judge Moore questioned the Senator regarding unfunded mandates coming up that could hurt Fannin County. Senator Hall said they are currently reviewing bills but that there is no category of bills that are called unfunded mandates. Discussion then ensued between Judge Moore and Senator Hall regarding how county, city and state citizens ultimately pay for mandates handed down. Judge Moore gave examples of House Bills that would require funding from the county like; H.B. 1639, H.B. 768, H.B. 638, H.B. 486, and H.B. 277. After giving those examples, Judge Moore expressed his disapproval of the State requiring counties to tax citizens more by handing down unfunded mandates. He offered a suggestion of changing verbiage in some of those mandates with a “may” instead of a “shall” or just allowing the county to come up with their own fix for what’s needed in the county. Senator Hall brought up times TAC and others, have provided inaccurate information and gave examples of past instances where misrepresentations of bills had occurred and the problems those inaccuracies had caused. Judge Moore brought up S.B.2
and the hypocrisy involved in the State mandating the lesser increase of property tax of 3.5% in the county as opposed to the 11% tax hike passed at the same time on a State level. Senator Hall agreed that he and others had not been in favor of that, had argued against it and stated that he was in favor of spending caps at the State level. Discussion then ensued about property tax alternatives and how services people want like Police, Fire, Roads, and Water could be paid for. After more discussion between the Commissioners and Senator Hall involving the difference between a liaison and a lobbyist, Judge Moore thanked the Senator for his time and expressed hope for future conversations with him. A citizen from Trenton called with a question involving Fannin County being able to hire someone or a firm to engage with Legislators over issues important to Fannin County. Senator Hall said as long as they were not lobbyists but felt that would be wasteful since any official from the county can pick up the phone and talk to him. Before ending his call, Senator Hall thanked the Court for the time to speak with them. After the Senators discussion ended, discussion with General Council with the County Judg-

es and Commissioner Association of Texas, James Allison via Zoom Chat began. Mr. Allison touched on his close relationship with Fannin County and his pride to serve as a lobbyist for Fannin County through TAC. He explained the importance of rural counties having the ability of joining together collectively to have people in Austin at the Capitol analyzing the many bills filed to not only point out to members what to do but to be available at the Capitol to act. He explained how information is given daily to their members what mandatory bills will do. He said that every unfunded mandate that is passed is a property tax increase. He gave examples of unfunded mandates, spoke on S.B.10 and how this would leave smaller rural counties to have to study, analyze and communicate about every bill on their own. Mr. Allison said he was planning to speak with Senator Hall to try and explain to him how this would adversely affect the counties he represents and left off with the statement that decisions need to be left at the local level because state control is not nearly as good as local control. 6. Discussion, consideration and action regarding the Fannin County Declaration of Disaster Proclamation for Co-

There is no better time than now to do it again. People were awakened to the prerequisites of effective praying. Churches were filled with praying and believing worshipers. Homes became centers of prayer for precious men and women serving at home and abroad in defense of our country. Let us pray for the stirring of the Holy Spirit to call us to personal repentance. Oh, for the healing of our nation from the sinful maladies

I will be a Leader like no other. I can be your Mayor because I am your fellow citizen, not a politician. I am the progress you know. I’m just a common man who stands for the common man. I am one of you who stands with you.
SECURE YOUR FUTURE BY MAKING ME YOUR MAYOR. I am excited to have new City Council members on the board and new members on BEDCO and to see the Courthouse turning into a beautiful historical site. I’m hoping to have the opportunity if elected as Mayor to be able to work with the new Council members, Planning and Zoning Committee, BEDCO and the City Staff on the vision plan for Bonham. I will take the time to listen and take suggestions from citizens, especially if we can make Bonham a cleaner and better place to live. I pray every day that God gives me, the City Council, City Staff, BEDCO and the Planning and Zoning Committee the strength and health needed to accomplish our goals to make this a Great City that we can be proud of. If you have any Questions or Concerns feel free to call me. 903-486-5560 and if I do not answer leave me a message. I will call you back as soon as I am able. Thank you for your support. NO PASSOVER? NO EASTER! To a Jewish friend, a Christian may respond, “We as Christians celebrate Easter while our Jewish friends celebrate Passover.” Right? The truth is, there would be no Easter without Passover. Easter for the Christ follower celebrates the day that Jesus was resurrected from the grave. It is the third day after Passover, also known as The Feast of First Fruits. Before Jesus could rise from the grave on “First Fruits,” it was necessary that there be a Passover. After being killed by the Roman Government consistent with the desires of the Jewish leaders of that time, Jesus’ followers mourned His death. They did not understand that what the adversaries of Jesus intended for evil, God had planned since the beginning of time: “Jesus, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.” (Revelation 13:8). The penalty levied against Jesus would serve to accomplish His Mission – He came to die. Why? Jesus was TO BECOME THE LAMB OF GOD. As John the Baptist saw Jesus walking toward him, the Holy Spirit enlightened John’s understanding and revealed Jesus for who He really was, “LOOK, THE LAMB OF GOD WHO TAKES AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD.” John 1:29. In our modern world, these words have little meaning, but to a Jewish man born in the priestly line of the Levites, as John was, the recognition of Jesus as the Lamb of God, was revolutionary. The priests who served in the Tabernacle of God were the ones who prepared the sacrifice for themselves and the people, approximately two million in total. It was no small task, but it was required by God for forgiveness of transgressions and sin against God’s standards. It was their life’s work. The priests nor the people could enter the presence of a Holy God without a sacrifice - A male lamb, without blemish (faultless)! Nor can we. “Tell all the people that on the tenth day of the first month, each man is to take a lamb for his family, one lamb for the household. Your lamb is to be without blemish, a year-old male. You must watch over it until the fourteenth day of the same month, at which time the lamb will be slaughtered at twilight. Each household is to take the blood of The Lamb and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel above the door, where each household will roast the meat and eat it. Leave nothing until morning, any of the meat that is left will be burned with fire. For I will go through the land on that night and strike down every firstborn of both men and animals, and I will execute judgments against all the gods of Egypt, for I AM GOD. When I see the blood on your door, I will pass over you. There will be no plague among you to destroy you when I judge the land.” Exodus 12:1-13 [paraphrased]. As John watched Jesus walk toward him that day beside the Jordan River, John knew – for the Spirit of God revealed to Him – that this man was God in the flesh, and HE was the true Lamb of God. Approximately 1500 years after the first Passover, Jesus showed up with a pre-planned mission from Heaven. He would offer the final sacrifice for the sins of not only Israel, but for the sins of the whole world. He would offer Himself, the Lamb without fault. By His Blood, those who partook of Him would inherit His Life through His perfect blood in which there was no seed of death. “Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, and the chief priests and scribes were looking for a way to put Jesus to death; for they feared the people. When the hour for Passover had come, Jesus reclined at the table with His apostles. And He said to them, “’I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before My suffering. For I tell you that I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.’ And He took the bread, gave thanks, and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body, given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’ In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.” Luke 22:1,2,7,19-20. Having accomplished all the work He had been given to do, Jesus’ final words on the cross, “IT IS FINISHED!,” is more correctly translated, “PAID IN FULL!” HE was the perfect, sinless Lamb that had PAID IN FULL the debt that had been racked up against the human race and took away the sins (debt) of the world. As the Bible tells us, there remains no more need for sacrifice. “Unlike the former priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; Jesus sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself.” Hebrews 7:27. However, that is not the end of the story. The victory for us is in the blood of His sacrifice, and in the fact that the penalty for sin has been paid in full. Rebellion (sin) against God and His perfect nature produced death; the scriptures call it the “wages of sin.” “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23. When Jesus made the final sacrifice for sin, He freed all of those who would willingly partake of Him-the Passover Lamb. HE freed us from the penalty of sin once and for all – DEBT PAID IN FULL! Because of His complete and perfect sacrifice, the wages of sin were removed and could not hold Him in the grave. HE AROSE from death to eternal life and has given us the same gift of eternal life. “But now, as things really are, Christ has in fact been raised from the dead, and has become the first fruits, that is, He is the first to be resurrected with an incorruptible, immortal body, and shows us what to expect of those who have fallen asleep in death. 1 Corinthians 15:20. In Him, we are resurrected. What man intended for evil, God intended for the Good of All Mankind. Our part in this plan is as Jesus said, “The work of God is this: to believe in the ONE He has sent.” John 5:29. HE IS THE LAMB OF GOD who takes away the sin of the world. He is Our Passover, Our Resurrection, Our Purpose. May we be found in Him at His coming! Signed: Teri Sheddy

To submit a letter, please e-mail fcleditor2020@ gmail.com. It is our goal to be fair and neutral relating to political issues. We welcome Letters to the Editor on topics that would be of concern and interest to the community. The decision to publish is left to the Editor and Management.
Letter to the Editor The Gospel of John was written to unbelievers – All the rest of the Epistles were written to believers. John the Baptist said “I am not the Christ. Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” John said “I baptize with water, so Jesus would be revealed to Israel.” In the N.T., believers are baptized with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit lives in every believer in Jesus Christ. The Spirit teaches us God’s word. The Holy Spirit convicts us when we sin. The Spirit shows us God’s will for our lives when we seek it! Some salvation verses in John’s Gospel: John 3:16; John 5:24; 6:44; 6:47; 7:38-39. Jesus said, “I did not come into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through me might be saved!” In John 8:12, Jesus talks about being the Light of the World. Jesus told his disciples, “If you abide in “My Word” you are truly “my” disciples. You will know the Truth and the Truth will make you free!” Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd. I lay down my life for the sheep. No one takes my life from me. I lay it down on my own accord. All authority has been given to me by my Father.” Jerry Bell

Is Celebrate Recovery For Me?
Celebrate Recovery offers a person the opportunity to participate in a group where love and hope combine with God’s purpose to mend our lives. Ask yourself: • Are there things in my life that I do to hurt others? • Is there something I wish I could live without? • Is there something in my life that has gotten out of control? • Do I have a habit or hang-up from which I need to be freed? Betty, “Grandma” or “Ma-Maw,” was born on March 13, 1941 in Houston, Texas to Carl and Velma (Hammond) Sanders. Betty married Joe, the love of her life, on July 21, 1962 in West Columbia, Texas. She enjoyed a successful career as a realtor in Texas and Virginia. Betty was a Texas native who was very committed to, and never forgot, her Humble, Texas “roots” and her extended family who live there. She always spoke fondly of her many cousins and their past adventures! She also loved her adopted state of Virginia where she and Joe lived for many years. Betty loved to tell stories about her cheerleader days, going to dances, and meeting Joe. She enjoyed golf and bridge, and her handmade quilts are a treasure. Her grandchildren enjoyed teasing her about her endless stacks of colorful quilt squares... and the Oreo cookies she kept in her oven! Betty was known for her strength of spirit and perseverance. This was never more evident than in the many years spent caring for Joe after his stroke in 1994. She celebrated each of her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments, while also loving and supporting them through tough times. Betty was a true family matriarch who leaves a legacy of strength and compassion. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband, William J. Collida Sr., and brother Carl Sanders Jr. She is survived by sons, Stephen Collida and wife JoAnna of Bailey, Texas and William Collida Jr. and wife Angel of Azle, Texas; daughter, Kellie Collida Grove and husband Jim of Blacksburg, Virginia; sister, Rita Weathers and husband James of West Columbia, Texas; sister-in-law Steve Ann Kalinec and husband Lawrence of Kerrville, Texas; sister-in-law Lydia Sanders of El Campo, Texas; grandchildren, Jacob Morris, Ashley Collida, Scott Collida, Ashton Collida, Ethan Collida, Carly Collida and Abby Collida; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Kaycee, and Khloe; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends. OBITUARIES
EDITH (POLLY) LITTLE
Funeral services for Edith “Polly” Ladell Little were held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at CooperSorrells Chapel in Honey Grove with Rev. Terry Paul Cunningham officiating. Edith Ladell McCollum Little, known as Polly to family and friends, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at Heritage House Assisted Living in Paris at the age of 97. She was born on August 21, 1923 in Naples, TX to Arthur David and Pearl Phillips McCollum. On March 23, 1945 she married Jesse Elmer Little in Dallas. They lived in and around Honey Grove all their
married life, until his passing. Polly was an avid crocheter, winning many ribbons for her entries at the State Fair of Texas. She was an excellent seamstress, always making beautiful dresses for her two daughters when they were growing up. She had a solemn and yet humorous personality; a very soft-spoken lady that could come up with idioms “at the drop of a hat.” She loved fudge, her grand dogs, and most of all her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They were the light of her life. If anything could make her smile, they could. She will be sorely missed. Polly was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, two nephews, her husband Jesse on September 13, 1995, and son-in-law Benny Hicks on August 29, 2009. She is survived by her daughters, Judy Hicks of Reno and Robin Jan Shipman and husband Jerry of Honey Grove, grandchildren David Hicks of Arlington, Amy Hicks Pickering and husband Hank of Wolfe City, Jason Hicks and Mindy of Greenville, Josh Shipman and wife Leyla of McKinney, Jacob Shipman of Honey Grove and Katie Shipman McLeod and husband Micah of Paris; great grandchildren Cody Pickering, Levi Wooten, Bryant Walker, Hayley Hicks, Jacob Hicks, Aurora McLeod, and great great grandchildren Kyleen Wooten and Kenzie Hicks. She is also survived by five nephews and three nieces, whom she loved very much. If you prefer, a donation to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers will be appreciated. To convey condolences or sign an online registry please visit www. coopersorrell.com.
