Luke 2 The True Meaning Of Christmas

1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

He worked for several companies including Collins Radio, Motorola, Gainesville Communications (owner), Oscar Mayer, Johnson & Johnson, Southwest Pump, Schlumberger, Cooke and Fannin County Sheriff’s Departments, among many others. Grid Operator Says Texas Is Better Prepared For Extreme Cold This Winter

Dec. 3, 2024

“Grid operator says Texas is better prepared for extreme cold this winter” was first published by The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan media organization that informs Texans — and engages with them — about public policy, politics, government and statewide issues.

Texas’ grid operator warned that the state should prepare for extreme cold this winter but said the state’s main power grid is better equipped than in previous years to withstand a powerful winter storm.

At a board meeting on Tuesday, officials from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas said that while winter presented a greater risk of outages, new power generation added to the grid in the past year has lowered the probability that extreme cold will trigger emergency conditions.

Texas’ grid has seen more than 10,000 megawatts of new generation come online since November 2023, helping to reduce the chances of an outage, Vegas said.

The new supply includes around 5,155 megawatts of solar power and 3,693 megawatts of electricity storage capacity — which is more solar and power storage added in a year than the total for many states. Texas also added 724 megawatts of natural gas and 616 megawatts of wind power.

The added capacity has helped lower the risk of emergency conditions during peak demand times from 11.6% last winter to 8.7% this winter, according to Vegas’ presentation.

Extreme cold events have occurred more frequently in recent years, he said, despite abnormally warm temperatures overall in Texas.

Scientists agree that climate change is causing more extreme weather. But the phrase “climate change” did not appear in any of the presentations at the ERCOT meeting.

Coleman’s presentation to the board said 2023 and 2024 are poised to become the hottest years on record in Texas.

“You can have a warm winter in Texas and have a cold extreme, and that’s becoming more frequent,” he said. “Five of the last eight winters, we’ve had temperatures that met those thresholds.”

Coleman’s forecast said ocean temperatures, atmospheric patterns, soil moisture and other measures this year closely resemble those of 2021. In February 2021, Winter Storm Uri brought days of freezing temperatures that crashed the state’s grid, knocked out power and heat to millions of Texans and led to nearly 250 deaths.

“That doesn’t mean we’re going to have Uri, but it does, again, state that we’re in a pattern that supports something like a Uri this winter,” Coleman said. “The conditions are there.”

Another major winter storm would test the improvements made to the ERCOT grid since 2021.

ERCOT CEO Pablo Vegas said, winter demand for power has also increased in recent years, with the grid seeing record-breaking demand of 78,349 megawatts in January.

At a news conference on emergency preparedness Tuesday, Gov. Greg Abbott said Texas is “fully prepared as a state to make sure we have the power available to keep the power on through whatever storm is going to arise.”

Abbott also pointed to legislation the state passed to strengthen the grid and the growing supply of power.

“We are working nonstop to make sure the power stays on regardless of what type of winter storm hits,” he said.

ERCOT estimates that 1 megawatt of electricity serves around 250 Texas homes during peak demand — though some energy experts have argued that less efficient heating systems in many homes means that number is lower.

Weatherization efforts have also strengthened the grid ahead of this winter, Vegas said. ERCOT has carried out 2,892 inspections of generation and transmission facilities since the Texas Legislature codified a set of weatherization standards in 2021 after Uri.

The requirements, Vegas said, have “markedly changed the risk profile of the ERCOT grid, particularly during the winter seasons.”

Still, he noted that solar and wind sources produce less power in the winter, and that demand for power increases in the cold.

During Uri, the extreme cold knocked out all forms of power sources around the state as wind turbines, equipment at gas-powered plants and natural gas supply equipment froze.

Sunday Morning Re-wind “Our Hope is Alive”

Hello everyone!

This week’s devotion comes from 1 Peter 1. Peter is writing to Christians scattered by persecution. His purpose is to encourage them, emphasizing exactly who they are as Christians, and how God has blessed them in Christ. Through our faith in Christ, we are born again to a living hope. Because Jesus is risen from the dead, our hope in Him isn’t merely a wish, it’s just as alive as He is. Our inheritance as His children is eternal and secured forever. Even in the midst of our suffering, we, as Christians, benefit. Our faith grows stronger, and is worth more than gold. Our faith will bring great glory when Jesus is revealed to us. However, we must remember that we are not home just yet. Next Peter addresses how we, as secure believers, should live

6/2/20

between this moment and the day that we are finally united with our Heavenly Father, especially in the midst of our suffering and persecution. We must see ourselves as a people who are set apart from the world, that have a special purpose. Although we live in this world, we do so as foreigners preparing to go to our heavenly home. We must mentally engage in setting our hope in the Lord, and what He has in store for us by His grace. The choices we make in this life matter. God placed a high value on our lives, paying for them with the blood of Christ. We must work hard to show pure love to other Christians. This is a huge part of our purpose, and how He intends for us to spend our brief lives while we are here on this earth.

A classic hymn that comes from the message in this

passage was written by Ray Palmer on 1830.

“My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine!

Now hear me while I pray, take all my guilt away;

O let me from this day be wholly Thine.

May Thy rich grace impart strength to my fainting heart, my zeal inspire; as Thou hast died for me, O may my love to Thee pure, warm, and changeless be, a living fire.”

If you are trying to find a good church home, we invite you to come visit us, and be a part of our church family and worship at Central Baptist Church. Visitors are our honored guests, and we hope to see you this coming Sunday!

Fruit Inspectors

We hear certain verses taken out of context many times. Verses like “Judge not, that ye be not judged” (Matthew 7:1), are lessons about not being hypocritical. We can know right from wrong according to the scriptures. Another one is “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone” (John 8:7), again a lesson on being merciful and not hypocritical. Adultery and fornication are condemned in the New Testament. Many just want to justify themselves and still live contrary to the commands of a loving God. David invited God, an all-knowing God, to look at his life, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalms 139:23-24). David wasn’t hiding behind the “judge not” or “he that is without sin” comments that we hear from those that refuse to repent.

Jesus tells us to “judge righteous judgment” (John 7:24). We must use God’s standard to determine right and wrong. When it comes to teaching, John wrote, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). Trying the teachers, holding them to the standard of God’s word. Paul stated that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16), scripture is the standard. When the commands and thoughts of men are taught, then the actions become vain. Christ said, “But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” (Matthew 15:9). Again Jesus taught, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them” (Matthew 7:20). Jeremiah understood the point of follow God’s will and not the will of men, when he penned God’s words, “My people hath been lost sheep:

their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place” (Jeremiah 50:6).

Some religions teachers are described by Isaiah, “His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark” (Isaiah 56:10). Isaiah goes on to describe teachers that are all about making money, by saying, “they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, everyone for his gain” (Isaiah 56:11). We are warned, “Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines” (Hebrews 13:9).

Sadly, not everyone is honest and we must be FRUIT INSPECTORS! Are those that claim to teach the Bible, truly teaching the Bible?

Remember that fruit inspectors have a standard. Spiritual fruit inspectors us God’s word as the standard.

Honey Grove has already defeated Marlin this season, winning, 21-20, on Sept. 6 in a non-district neutral site game at Royse City ISD Stadium.

The fourth-round postseason advance equates Honey Grove's first in football since reaching the same round 55 years ago. The Warriors lost

Previously this season, Honey Grove defeated Elysian Fields, 56-20, on Nov. 15 in the bi-district round; Hearne, 36-7, on Nov. 22 in the area round; and Waskom, 54-29, on Nov. 29 in the regional semifinals, after advancing as the undefeated District 9-2A-I champion to its thirdstraight football postseason overall and under head coach Shane Fletcher.

Double Digit Dubyas: Bonhi girls start slate strongly under new hoops HC Crockett

BONHAM -December arrived with Bonham's Lady Warriors already having double-digit wins, to begin new head girls' basketball coach Ashley Crockett's tenure. Bonham (10-3) will look for more success during the second month of the 202425 season, ahead of officially returning to Class 4A basketball in January.

The Lady Warriors will play host to Pittsburg on Jan. 3, 2025, to start District 14-4A play.

A mix of veterans and newcomers populate Bonham's roster -the former including senior Hingrid Pedraza and sophomore Parker Patton, each an honorable mention last season in 11-3A girls' basketball.

Fishin’ Report

TAKE A KID FISHING or Hunting!

Week of December 4, 2024

Bois d’Arc stained; 85 degrees; 3.34 feet below pool. The top water action for bass has slowed down around pond weed, but still a few to catch. Bass are good in shallow pond dams and high spots with chatterbaits and square bills crankbaits. Texas rigs and jigs are the best baits in 4-7 feet on timber. Cedar Creek GOOD. normal stain; 67 degrees; 3.48 feet below pool. The recent storms slowed down the fishing just a bit but it has picked up especially on the days it has been warming up into the 70s. Still finding hybrids and white bass on midlake points and drop offs along sandy flats throughout the dam area, Crappie Island, Key Ranch and the spillway humps in 11-19 feet. Cast spinners and slabs and look for schooling fish on these flats as well as deeper seawalls and shorelines. Fish any hump in 12-22 feet throughout the lake to find fish stacked up in schools as the day warms up. Look for schooling fish on cloudier/colder days. Use spinnerbaits or drop a slab down to the bottom and work it fast up and down and the fish will hit it immediately. Also throwing out a slab and reeling it back with a slow retrieve is also working well. Cast rattle traps, Spoons, Umbrella Rigs, slabs or sassy shads to get the hybrids to bite. Cooper GOOD. Water stained; 64 degrees: 2.00 feet below pool. The lake is low, best to launch near the dam. Crappie are good roaming in the river channel transitioning to the dam for the river pattern. Crappie are hitting minnows, jigs, or hand tied jigs. Report by River Bottom Boys Guide Service. Grapevine GOOD. Water normal stain; 65 degrees; 1.59 feet below pool. The forecasted cold front may slow the bite. White bass are shallow 15-20 feet along the edges of points with white slabs. Some days birds are working leading the way to white bass. Catfish can be caught mixed in with the white bass. Report by Omar Cotter, Luck O’the Irish Fishing Guide Service. Texoma GOOD. Water stained; 69 degrees; 1.69 feet below pool. Striper fishing is great on live bait and lures. Topwaters are landing bites early along sandy points and creeks. Cast swimbaits under the birds working or on structure in 15-20 feet of water. Live bait is producing limits of fish on ledges in 30-40 feet of water. Catfishing is great on cut shad and whole gizzard shad. Look near the rivers and off the river channels on deep flats 30-40 feet of water. Big blues are starting to show up. Crappie fishing is picking up. Use jigs and small shad under dock floats and along the tops of brush piles in 6-12 feet of water. Electronics help locate active fish suspended throughout the brush. Bass fishing will continue to improve as temperatures drop and water levels rise. Look for bass to be more active, chasing baits and making more mistakes. Try Alabama rigs with flukes and hard baits off the banks towards the middle of shallow coves and near docks in 5-12 feet of water. Use electronics to locate brush and structure bait will be holding on with bigger bass roaming the ledges. Crappie are excellent on brush piles in 8-25 feet of water with the best bite on ⅛ ounce jig, and tipping the jig with minnows. This pattern will be consistent

Completing this form will enable Fannin County Deputies and dispatchers to notify owners of stray livestock without resorting to impounding animals or transporting them. The Sheriff’s Office will attempt to reunite stray livestock with owners promptly and efficiently. Registering livestock reduces injury to the animals, and damage to fencing and property for which livestock owners may be liable. When our dispatchers receive a call concerning loose livestock, the dispatcher will compare the description given with all livestock registered in that area. If a match is discovered, the owner will be notified. This system reduces costs and prevents the damage or injury that may occur with livestock transport.

The interests the group or association seeks to protect must also be identified. You may also submit your proposed adjustments to the application/permit which would satisfy your concerns.

The deadline to submit a request for a contested case hearing is 30 days after newspaper notice is published. If a request is timely filed, the deadline for requesting a contested case hearing will be extended to 30 days after the mailing of the response to comments.

If a hearing request is timely filed, following the close of all applicable comment and request periods, the Executive Director will forward the application and any requests for contested case hearing to the Commissioners for their consideration at a scheduled Commission meeting. The Commission may only grant a request for a contested case hearing on issues the requestor submitted in their timely comments that were not subsequently withdrawn. If a hearing is granted, the subject of a hearing will be limited to disputed issues of fact or mixed questions of fact and law relating to relevant and material air quality concerns submitted during the comment period. Issues such as property values, noise, traffic safety, and zoning are outside of the Commission’s jurisdiction to address in this proceeding.
