CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler Breaks Ground on Massive Tower Expansion Project
On April 3, officials with CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System broke ground on a massive new expansion of CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler that will drastically increase the Emergency and Intensive Care capabilities of the System, as well as kicked off the accompanying Red Door Project through the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Foundation. The expansion project will consist of a new 200,000-square-foot Tower to be built on the South side of CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler, with a skywalk leading to a new, approximately 850-space parking garage across Dawson Street. The Tower will house a state-of-the-art Emergency Care Center, advanced Intensive Care Units and multiple support services, as well as space for future growth. Developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), Magnet® is the leading designation of successful nursing practices and strategies worldwide. Most hospitals and medical organizations do not meet the criteria necessary to apply for Magnet® recognition, as it is one of the most difficult statuses to achieve. CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler is the only health care provider in the region to hold this designation. “This designation is a tremendous honor for us and a testament to the culture of excellence among our nursing staff. Once accepted for application, a hospital spends the 24-36-month application process gathering and producing the necessary submission documents, which the ANCC only accepts four times a year. On Oct. 1, 2016, the ANCC received and reviewed CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System’s application, then scored the document; an in-depth review process, which took roughly 3 months. When the document was found to be “Excellent” the ANCC scheduled a three-day site visit in April 2017 which verified that the data in the document is accurate and representative. During the Magnet® site survey, appraisers from the ANCC verified, clarified, and amplified the information in the document. They met with nurses and leaders across the organization, touring patient care areas and interviewing nurses about the work environment and nursing culture. The appraisers held roundtable meetings for feedback from nurses on topics such as leadership, staffing, Evidence-Based Practice, ethics, innovation in nursing, and retention and recruitment. All told, there were 66 meetings with more than 600 nurses speaking face-to-face with Magnet® surveyors. The event finished with an emotionally charged public community forum during which the ANCC appraisers heard examples of CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler nurses impacting and changing lives in the community.

Children’s Miracle Network Telethon Celebrates 30 Years The 30th Annual Children’s Miracle Network Celebration! Children’s Miracle Network Telethon Celebrates 30 Years, continued This year’s annual Celebration! CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic - OB|GYN Opens New Facility
After months of construction the new CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic OB|GYN - Tyler Medical Park opened to the public and patients of CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System in June. The newly updated facility, located at the intersection of Beckham and Fifth streets in Tyler, offers advanced facilities providing the highest quality of care and increased access to needed health care services for the women of Northeast Texas.

The OB|GYN Clinic began seeing patients at the new location June 19. The new facility features 30 large exam rooms, 13 offices for providers and five separate stations for nursing staff. The support service facilities will also be updated with newly designed non-stress LEEP | Ultrasound rooms, as well as the addition of an onsite lab for faster processing and test results for patients.
“This 15,500 square-foot facility houses the 10 OB|GYN physicians and Advance Practice Providers, with space for needed expansion and the addition of more health care providers in the future,” said Mark Skains, Administrative Director, OB|GYN for CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System. “Because it is the goal of CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System to always seek innovation and to improve upon our award-winning services, the new clinic has also incorporated design changes and an exam room experience based on feedback and research from best practices for medical offices across the nation.” The original facility hosting the OB|GYN clinic was constructed in 1984, and the volume of patients and providers necessitated the move to a large facility. “The number of women we serve from Tyler and the surrounding areas has continued to grow over the last several years, and as providers, we recognize the need to expand our facilities to meet their needs,” said Paul Fanning, M.D., CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic OB|GYN. “The location is beautiful, updated, easily accessible for our patients and has space to expand should that need arise in the future. CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Sulphur Springs Recognized as #1 Hospital in the Battle of the Buildings Bootcamp 2016
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program recognized CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital Sulphur Springs as the #1 Hospital in the Battle of the Buildings Bootcamp 2016. The energy savings for this competition for the hospital was $92,680. For three months, from September 1 - November 30, 2016, more than 200 organizations across the country entered 800+ buildings to compete in the 2016 National Building Competition: BOOTCAMP. Competitors worked to cut energy and water waste, one energy or water-saving action at a time, and tracked their building’s monthly energy and water consumption using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager®, EPA’s online measurement and tracking tool.
