From court to seat in parliament
By DULILE SOWAGA and REGINALD KANYANE THE ANC has replaced Brian Molefe with another controversial leader as a member of parliament. This time their new MP is former Rustenburg mayor Matthew Wolmarans, who was convicted with his bodyguard for the murder of whistle-blower and ANC Councillor Moss Phakoe in 2012. He had the conviction overturned two years later. Wolmarans was confirmed by the ANC in North West as a replacement for Molefe, who himself was appointed to parliament last year after losing his Eskom job. He resigned as Eskom CEO following a finding by former public protector Thuli Madonsela that he was linked to the Gupta family. When Molefe didn’t get a ministerial job, as was widely expected, he returned to his Eskom job, saying he had just been on leave. He has since been fired for good. Wolmarans’ conviction was overturned when a witness told the Supreme Court of Appeal he was forced to make a false statement.
IN LOVING MEMORY
Ahmed Kathrada’s site of remembrance was unveiled yesterday. By LETHABO KHAMBULE GUESTS gathered at Westpark Cemetery in Joburg yesterday for the unveiling of the tombstone of respected ANC stalwart Ahmed Kathrada. Today would have been his 88th birthday. Among those present were Trevor Manuel, ANC stalwart Mavuso Msimang, Robben Island Museum Council chairman Sibusiso Buthelezi and Nelson Mandela Foundation CEO Sello Hatang. The design of his tombstone is based on an open Robben Island cell like the one where Kathrada spent 18 years.

The remembrance started by honouring Marikana victims and the anti-apartheid activist Ahmed Timol. The ceremony also coincided with the 34th anniversary of the formation of the United Democratic Front. Before his death, Kathrada was said to be sad, disappointed and disgusted by the ANC. Manuel said: “The ANC has lost its way. We should look up to Mandela and Kathrada’s qualities of leadership to understand its values. “They were selfless.”
Suraya Morris from the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation shared her first interaction with Ahmed. “Kathrada was a chilled man. “He had no bodyguard to show he was a man of importance. From our first conversation, he was like a father to me. He was a humble man.” Kathrada loved Isidingo and Motlatse Mafatshe, who plays Setshaba, attended the ceremony. “It was a great honour to learn he never missed an episode.”

Mzwenkosi Ngidi (40), speaking at the scene of the tragedy, said he lost two family members in the crash. “I arrived at the scene to find my mother, Mpheni, and my sister, Jabulile lying dead under the bridge. ANC provincial secretary Dakota Legoete and North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo confirmed that Wolmarans would be sworn in. ) The ANC in North West faces problems before the national elective conference in December as many regions have been dissolved and are being run by task teams. One group successfully halted their regional conference in Bojanala after applying to the North West High Court, claiming unfair removal from their positions and being sidelined from the conference. They are led by former regional secretary Tokyo Mataboge. The court ordered that their problems must be dealt with.
Mapaila calls for JZ’s head By VINCENT LALI AFTER news of Deputy Higher Education Minister Mduduzi Manana’s resignation broke on Saturday, Solly Mapaila said he wished President Jacob Zuma would do the same. The SACP deputy general secretary was speaking at the party’s 96th anniversary event at Matthew Goniwe Memorial High School in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. “Zuma’s resignation would not solve everything, but it would lay a firm foundation to solving our problems,” he said. He said Zuma must resign because state capture had cost the country billions of rands. “State capture denies South Africa an opportunity to build houses and provide basic services. Zuma must resign because he donated national authority to the Guptas.”
He described the ANC’s decision to discipline Makhosi Khoza, supposedly for siding with the opposition in the motion of no confidence vote, as a serious diversion. “The person who must be disciplined is Zuma, who bought the ANC into disrepute by not respecting the Constitution.” Speaking about Mzansi’s crime rate, Mapaila said: “Residents must work with civil society to fight crime.” Western Cape Sanco spokesman Sam Ndzunga said there were people in government who were not doing what they were supposed to. He said: “Some are eating with the Guptas while others are busy employing their family members. “At one point, people were told a swimming pool was a fire pool.”

NO WAY MUGABE WOULD BE ARRESTED!
Gabriella Engels claims Grace Mugabe assaulted her. Photo by DeaanVivier/ Netwerk24
‘It could affect relations with other countries’
THE Department of International Relations and Co-operation has confirmed that Minister Maite NkoanaMashabane had granted Zimbabwe First Lady Grace Mugabe diplomatic immunity. Mugabe is at the centre of an assault claim. “I hereby recognise the immunities and privileges of the First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Grace Mugabe,” reads a Government Gazette notice, signed by Nkoane-Mashabane on Saturday and published yesterday. The department’s spokesman, Nelson Kgwete, confirmed the notice and said the department would release a statement later in the day.
Meanwhile, a senior source in the international relations department told City Press on Thursday that there was no way Mugabe would be arrested as it could affect relations with neighbouring countries. Mugabe’s aides say they have acquired CCTV footage of model Gabriella Engels fighting in a nightclub on Sunday morning. The incident at Taboo in Sandton, Joburg, allegedly happened on the same day the 20-year-old claimed Mugabe assaulted her in a hotel. When Gabriella was yesterday asked about the fight, she said: “Yes, I was at Taboo but I was not involved in any fight. They are trying to discredit me.”
Gabriella said her friend had been involved in a fight. However, a regular at the nightclub told City Press Gabriella and a group of friends had brawled with another group of women. Taboo co-owner Ammar Janayem said he was not aware of the alleged brawl. A security guard at the Capital 20 West Hotel in Sandton, where Gabriella was allegedly assaulted, said she had arrived at the hotel in the early hours of Sunday morning with bruises on her face. However, he said she only sustained a cut to her forehead after being attacked by Mugabe, when she entered the room at about 9pm on Sunday. – NEWS24
Forget the girl, our beef’s is all about the music
Mgarimbe says DJ Twitty disrespected him by not telling him about the remix. Photo by Abraham Kortjaas
By EVERSON LUHANGA “TWITTY disrespected me!” This is what Sister Bethina hit-maker Mgarimbe said on Twitter this weekend as the fighting over DJ Twitty’s proposed remix of the hit grew worse. Writing in Zulu, he addressed rumours that Twitty had slept with his lover. He said the incident had nothing to do with his feelings towards Twitty. He claimed that after a gig, he and his lover slept in Twitty’s Mini Cooper. “When I woke up, she was not in the car. I went inside his flat and found her in the same bed as Twitty. They had passed out after whatever they were doing,” he claimed. “But I understood as Twitty had more money than me and is good-looking,
while I was broke and ugly. Twitty knows how I feel and I don’t have any hard feelings.” He claimed Twitty was trying to revive his career by using his song. He said he felt disrespected because he didn’t discuss remixing the song with him. “I was the last person to find out about his intentions to remix the song. I only found out through social media when he let Mzansi know. “Why didn’t he come to me first and ask me face to face? Why did he speak about it to other people and post on social media before approaching me?” When contacted for comment, Twitty said he was in church. But when the SunTeam phoned again later, he didn’t answer.

MANANA STILL MP! He’s quit one job but still has the other
Dagga found in two boys’ lunch boxes By KARABO RAMMUTLA THE two boys were known for wearing expensive clothes. Everyone at their school in Silverton, Tshwane, thought they had rich parents. But on Friday, pupils and teachers were shocked when they found out the boys were allegedly selling dagga. The discovery was made when teachers became suspicious as the boys always carried two large lunch boxes. The teachers called the police and when the boxes were examined, they didn’t contain food or sweets – R1 000 worth of dagga was found inside! Silverton police spokesman Captain Jan Sepato said it seemed that the two 19-year-old matric pupils had been selling dagga at the school for some time. He said they had been carrying the boxes since last year but had never been seen taking food out of them. He thanked the school governing body and community policing forum for helping cops to bust the pair. “The two were charged with dealing in drugs and will appear in the Pretoria Magistrates Court,” said Sepato. He urged parents to keep an eye on their kids to make sure they are not involved in crime. A teacher at the school blamed the boys’ parents. “Everyone here was suspicious of their behaviour. Why couldn’t their parents see something was going on when they brought new clothes and gadgets home?”

By NEWS24 and SIFISO JIMTA MDUDUZI Manana will keep his job as an MP. This is despite quitting as deputy minister of higher education and apologising for what he described as his “shameful actions”. City Press reported President Jacob Zuma was going to ask him to resign but the arrangement would be that Manana would state publicly he had stepped aside voluntarily. On Saturday Manana (33) released a statement expressing regret for beating up Mandisa Duma three weeks ago at the Cubana nightclub. This was in Fourways, northern Joburg. Manana is said to have lost his temper when the woman and her friends called him gay. Manana said he had reflected on the matter and decided to resign. He claimed to have

made the decision on his own. “I have communicated my decision to the president,” said Manana. Accompanying the statement was a video of Manana reading out the announcement. The statement came shortly after Zuma said he had accepted Manana’s resignation and wished him well. Sources said Zuma will make an announcement soon after Manana’s fall from grace. Parliament has confirmed that Manana is still an MP. Manana is said to be one of Zuma’s golden boys. “That is why Zuma advised him to resign,” said an ANC insider. ) The ANC has indicated its intent to take disciplinary action against Manana. Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane welcomed Manana’s resignation and commended him for taking responsibility for his actions. SACP deputy general-secretary Solly Mapaila also applauded Manana for resigning. He said: “We want to thank him for stepping aside rather than continuing to contaminate his office.”
Cici refuses out of court negotiations
By STEPHENS MOLOBI THE assault case against kwaito star Arthur Mafokate has been postponed until the 20th of next month. Arthur made a brief appearance in the Midrand Magistrates Court in Joburg on Friday. The defence team asked the magistrate to postpone the case to allow for further investigation and possible mediation between Arthur and his accuser, Busisiwe “Cici” Twala. However, Cici and her legal team refused mediation, which would have involved negotiating an out of court agreement. Her spokesman, Themba Masango, told Daily Sun: “This is not going to happen. The accused must face the full might of the law. We are calling on the authorities to act without fear. “They must make an example out of this one because he’s a so

After the alleged assault, she had to undergo a hip replacement operation. She was supported in court by family members and celebrities, all dressed in black. Some celebrities made their views known on Twitter and Ntsiki was especially outspoken, writing: “Why are you surprised by Arthur when he had power and control over all his women and artists? Didn’t Vavi get fired over this s**t?” Arthur made headlines after Cici, his former girlfriend, ac-
cused him of assaulting her in June. He was arrested after she opened an assault case and he spent the night in jail before appearing in court the next morning. He allegedly dragged Cici down the street behind his car following a heated argument at his Midrand home.

By DULILE SOWAGA DAVID Metsileng (53) was attacked in a fight believed to be between Amaxhosa and Batswana people on Saturday. The incident in Sefikile Village near Moruleng, North West started when groups of people from the nearby squatter camp allegedly attacked residents. “I was walking with some people on the street when armed men threw stones at us,” David said. “When I tried to run away, another group emerged and began to stab me. I was attacked for no reason. They wanted to kill me.” Villagers have been protesting for services since
Thursday, demanding jobs and development in the area. They also wanted the squatter camp to be demolished. Villagers said Anglo American Platinum Mine officials in Swartklip held a meeting with the people. They claimed armed squatters then arrived and allegedly attacked villagers. Spokeswoman for Moses Kotane Municipality, Beauty Makganye, said there are continuous meetings with the community, the mine, the tribal authority and relevant provincial departments. SCHOOL VIOLENCE ANGER! A screengrab from a video showing unidentified pupils violently attacking each other in the school premises.
By ZIMBILI VILAKAZI KZN EDUCATION MEC Mthandeni Dlungwane is expected to visit Richards Bay Secondary School today following the violence at the school. The violent incident was recorded in a shocking 11, second video in which a group of pupils is seen attacking each other on the premises, with other pupils cheering. The department alleged some pupils had knives and guns and gunshots were fired. Dlungwane said he strongly condemned the violence because schools should be the centres of

learning and teaching, not sites of bullying, gangs and criminality. He said he was calling on teachers, parents and residents to unite and stand against violence at schools. “Even if we installed state-of-the-art security in our schools, we won’t win the war against school violence. “Parents and communities must come on board and take responsibility for instilling a sense of what is right and wrong in their children.” He said schools shouldn’t KZN Education MEC Mthandeni Dlungwane called be the only place where chilon communities must unite and stand against violence in schools. He said bullying is one of the causes of violent crime at schools, and forms part of the safety challenges schools face. It directly undermines the creation of a safe school environment that supports personal growth and development. Attempts to get comment from the SGB were unsuccessful.
Sex lessons but no maths! By SIBONELO ZWANE THEY were gatvol of their maths teacher talking about sex in class instead of teaching them. So clever pupils from Topaz Secondary School in Lenasia, Joburg started filming him. Last week, they showed the evidence to their parents, who were furious. One parent said she started worrying when she saw her daughter’s marks for the first and second terms were the same. “I asked her whether she was struggling with maths or if her teacher was the problem. “She told me the teacher would only talk about maths for five minutes and then spend the rest of the period talking about sex. “I didn’t believe her but then she showed me a video.” Another parent said: “We teach our children not to rush in-
to sex but this man is filling their heads with nonsense. He is sick. “He tells them that beautiful girls with curves should be used for sex and even demonstrates how they should do it.” Parents shared videos on a WhatsApp group and on Friday, they met the principal to discuss what had been going on. Parents said the principal would lodge a complaint with authorities as he didn’t have the power to suspend the teacher. Gauteng Department of Education spokesman Steve Mabona said: “We are disappointed and strongly condemn the action by the educator. Educators must not cease their responsibility to be guardians and role models. Disciplinary charges will definitely be laid as soon as we verify the necessary information.”

The MEC said a permanent disciplinary committee would be set up at the school, and police would conduct random searches at least once a week. “Whoever is on suspension will not set foot on school premises until the disciplinary process is complete.” The MEC will meet teachers, SGB members and parents this week to discuss ways to improve discipline and security at the school. A pupil (17) said the fight happened just outside the school gate. “The trouble started after a girl dumped her boyfriend for another boy.” Another pupil said each of the boys asked their friends to back them up and soon the fight had spread. “When the dumped boy’s friends saw they were losing, one of them pulled out a firearm. “Luckily, some pupils managed to stop him from shooting,” said the pupil.

GOVERNORS GET THE BOOT Kenyans vote out 25 of them in election
NAIROBI, KENYA DISPUTES raged over the presidential results from Kenya’s election last week. But few noticed the little democratic revolution that blossomed in the layer of government directly underneath. Kenyans sent home 25 out of 47 governors, upholding a strong anti-incumbent tradition and warning that voters were tired of corruption. Anti-corruption campaigners hope the new taste of direct accountability will eventually help fight corruption in East Africa’s biggest economy, and weaken the grip of parties that rely on ethnic voting blocs.
“Party doesn’t matter. We want performers,” said Ann Wairimu (48), a real estate agent in Nairobi, where dirty water and open sewers caused a recent cholera outbreak. People voted out Nairobi’s governor, Evans Kidero, for failing to deliver services. His replacement, Mike Sonko, is known for his taste in fashion and high profile social projects. When he is not dressed to the nines, he is often seen leading teams of people clearing rubbish on the streets. “Kidero just sat in his office and failed to deliver services. But Sonko is concerned about the lives of the poor people,” said Wairimu. – REUTERS

SCHOOLS ARE NOT SAFE! N
o parent deserves to get a call from their child’s school alerting them that their child has been assaulted. The pain is the same whether a child’s been beaten up by a fellow pupil, teacher or any other person who was not supposed to have been on the school premises. Any form of violence, regardless of its severity, is not acceptable within our schools. Pupils can’t function properly and perform to the level at which they are expected when they have been victims of violence at school. One of the reasons we send kids to school is that we believe they’ll be provided not only

with an environment that’s good for their learning, but also one where their safety is guaranteed. Teachers should never get away with assaulting a child in the name of discipline. A pupil who assaults another should be disciplined. People with no relationship with a school shouldn’t be allowed to just walk into
the premises and assault pupils. We shouldn’t be entertained by video clips of school kids being assaulted. We should be ashamed that such incidents happen. And most importantly, we should be urged to come out and do something about it. ) Christopher Mazibuko Soshanguve ) Of late, we have seen a rise in violence in our schools. It should be condemned. Pupils are there to learn and that should be a priority. This letter wins R200. Call Nthabiseng to collect. – Editor
ANC was stupid to fire Khoza
It’s clear that the ANC hasn’t learnt from its past mistake of randomly dismissing senior members without thinking about the consequences that might bounce back to haunt the organisation. The party lost many members after then ANCYL president Julius Malema was fired. The decision led to the formation of the EFF, which is today a strong
challenge to the ANC. I am opposed to the recent decision to fire Makhosi Khoza from her position. The ANC should have used other internal disciplinary measures rather than to fire her as chairwoman of a parliamentary committee. Doesn’t the ANC leadership think that Khoza might leave the party with a reasonable number of mem-
bers, especially from her own province? Doesn’t the leadership think she might join one of the opposition parties and apply her sober mind there to harm the ANC even further? Unless the ANC refrains from this chop and change mentality, we are heading for a disaster in the 2019 election. ) Jabulani Mazibuko, Kriel
Thugs one step Makhosi’s a true leader ahead of police
Thugs have the upper hand over cops. Criminals rob malls, jewellery stores and cash-in-transit vehicles every day. We never hear of these criminals getting caught. All we are told is that they took an undisclosed amount of money and the police are investigating. Thugs have rendered our police service useless and many business owners are now relying on private security companies for protection. An Uber driver was recently moered in the presence of the police. Women and children are assaulted and killed on a daily basis. Only a few of the robbers and killers are caught by the police. What went wrong with our police service? ) Tumelo Lemao Delmas
The pig is eating its own children. It’s becoming clear that the split in the ruling party is not about the values that drive service delivery. They have steered so far from the democratic intention that the centre can’t hold anymore. They act quickly on members who speak the truth and fail to act against those who break the law. Factional politics in the ANC are not going to end anytime soon. I applaud Dr Makhosi Khoza for maintaining her moral principles. She clearly knows the difference between right and wrong. She was tested and she responded ethically: “I will never change my principles.
In Mzansi, we are clearly not all equal before the law. Deputy education minister Mduduzi Manana was accused of assault but wasn’t arrested. He only appeared in court. Zimbabwe’s first lady Grace Mugabe was also accused of assault but still no arrest has been made. She was only asked to hand herself over to the cops. But if you are a poor black person accused of these offences, the entire police station will be at your house in the blink of an eye to bust you! ) Selby Phosa, Daveyton
“If I have to face the music, so be it. If I have to face the consequences, so be it. Indeed, she is a leader of virtue. I believe the ANC will also fire her as an MP, after firing her as chairwoman of the portfolio committee on public service and administration. The party has been looking for an excuse to get rid of her. I wouldn’t even be surprised if she was stripped of her party membership. This is a true reflection of the battle raging in the ANC. Nelson Mandela said: “If the ANC does to you what the apartheid government did, do to the ANC what you did to the apartheid government. ) Matlala Mpubane Emanuel

A customer is a very important person in any business. Without customers, a business won’t succeed. But I don’t agree with the saying that a customer is always right. I find the statement misleading and dangerous. Some people behave badly at supermarkets and restaurants. Should I keep quiet when I see a teenager ill-treating an elderly cashier, all because a customer is always right? Should I keep quiet when I see a customer screaming at a person who works at a restaurant?
People who work at restaurants experience the worst behaviour almost every day. Most of them are being treated as if they are not humans. This bad behaviour must stop. People should learn to appreciate the service they get at supermarkets and restaurants. As a young person, I have also experienced the same treatment from a customer. But I think it’s time to change the saying to, a customer can’t always be right. We all have rights in this country. ) Abel Mabena Tswaing View

Rocks are a real danger Boozing is not the answer
I’d like to request the Joburg Metro cops to help us. As motorists, we struggle to drive towards Naledi Train Station in Soweto. Some people have deliberately put rocks on Kgaribe Street, near Sakkies. The rocks have been there since the beginning of the year. It seems no one is doing anything to remove them. They pose a danger to drivers, especially at night.
2/15
What’s even worse is that the rocks are often rearranged and this causes unnecessary traffic, especially during the week. We don’t know the reason behind this irresponsible act. But if the residents of Naledi feel that the road poses a danger to their kids, then they should do the right thing and request speed humps from the municipality. I hope the Metro cops will remove the rocks and patrol the area. ) SG, Emdeni

Blacks have blamed apartheid for many of their troubles, especially their abuse of alcohol. Yes, apartheid was a bully, but black people allowed it to downgrade their lives. After that era, blacks started to spend their time at shebeens, drinking heavily. Their focus was on booze, and not on educating themselves. Poverty among the black population has now led to an increase in crime.

Education was a privilege to blacks during oppression. But it’s worth mentioning that many blacks were able to get an education even during apartheid. As a result of the injustices of apartheid, freedom fighters Robert Sobukwe, Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko educated themselves and found ways to free all blacks. What’s stopping us? ) Jeremiah Daka

By SNAZO NOTHO J Mshega will set the DStv iRock stage on fire. The festival will take place at Polokwane Cricket Club in Limpopo on 23 and 24 September. The 28-year-old from Katlehong, Ekurhuleni – whose single Criminal is making waves – said he wanted to use his stage time to make people notice him. This will be the DJ’s first performance at the festival, and he has taken his time to prepare his set. DJ Mshega, who was born Linda Hlatshwayo, said being added to the festival lineup proved that people recognised his work. “When I heard I was going to be part of the festival, I was happy, he told SunBuzz. “This will motivate me to work harder. I have prepared a good set of music for the festival. “People should come to the festival to witness my performance. I’ll be perform-
ing with a musical instrument because I want to show people how I make my music. He said he would reproduce songs live on stage so people can get an idea of how he created his hit singles. DJ Mshega said he prepares his sets in advance because, apparently, this calms him down. “I know you have to keep people entertained because they came to the event to enjoy themselves, he said. “But preparing a set in advance helps you to relax and deliver the best performance possible. “After all, practice makes perfect. People should come in large numbers. “I’ll be having fun behind the decks as I give them good music.
DJ Mshega’s breakthrough came in 2014 when he won the SABC1 show 1s and 2s. ) Tickets are available at Computicket for between R200 and R2 500.

By JABULANI LANGA MASKANDI musicians will have a busy, fun time next month! That’s because the National Maskandi Tour festival was launched on Friday at the Hilton Hotel by One Music SA. The maskandi tour will start in Durban at the Sahara Stadium on 30 September, move on to Port Elizabeth, and end in Joburg. One Music SA spokeman Thabile Shelembe-Mhlongo told SunBuzz they’d offered the artists three-day life insurance and medical aid. “If an artist or band members gets injured during a performance or within the three
days of the festival, we’ll cover all expenses, said ShelembeMhlongo. “Even when the artist dies during the festival, we’ll bury them. “We’ll also cover all their costs such as luxury transport, five-star hotel accommodation and the kind of food they deserve. “After we’ve finished with this year’s tour, we’ll have maskandi awards, and winners will receive their prize money on the same day. Praising the maskandi tour organisers, singer Thokozani “Somnandi Langa told Daily Sun: “Most festival organisers don’t care about artists’ ac-
commodation needs and food. “I’ve been in the music industry for many years, but I’ve never seen such a good thing. “We thank them because during other festivals, if your band member gets injured during a performance, it becomes a group leader’s problem. The line-up includes Thokozani Langa, Ihhash’elimhlophe, Izingane Zoma, Igcokamelisha, Soul Brothers, Mjikijelwa, Bonakele, Uboneni, Bahubhe, Khuzani, Buselaphi, Phuzekhemisi, and Shwi NoMtekhala. By MAVI NGCOBO welve Indoni Miss Mi Cultural finali nalists were announced in Ballito, Durban on Saturday. They represent differ ferent Mzansi groups and the winner win will be crowned the fifth Miss Mi Indoni. The event will take place e at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli InterInt national Convention Centre e in Durban on 7 October. Before the girls were introin duced, the audience was enter ntertained by breathtaking perp
formances from dancers and musicians. Outgoing Miss Indoni, Thembelihle Mpofu (18), of the Swazi group in Mpumalanga, thanked the organisers for giving her the opportunity to show that embracing her culture can open doors. “I love my culture very much and that can be seen in my everyday behaviour. “I wear this crown today because of my love for my culture,” said Thembelihle. She said the girl that becomes the new Miss Indoni must use
the crown to teach others that culture can be used as a weapon to fight social ills, including drug abuse and teenage pregnancy. Founder Dr Nomcebo Mthembu said the main purpose of Indoni is upliftment. “I can proudly say that our purpose has been fulfilled. Many teenagers are eager to enter Miss Indoni. “The department of education told me that in the Eastern Cape fewer teens are now falling pregnant, and they’re crediting Indoni for that,” said Mthembu.
Snethemba Maphanga from the Swazi group is confident that she will be able to achieve what Thembelihle did last year. Other finalists this year include Rone Katjorro (Khoisan), Noluthando Motaung (Sotho), Pretty Nzimande (Zulu), Ndulamiso Tshemulovha (Venda).’ Other finalists in the competrion are Mologadi Bopape (Pedi), Neziwe Mgolombana (Tswana), Audrey Sihosana (Ndebele), Ncebakazi Masumpa (Mpondo), Endindo Mnana (Xhosa) and Sinovuyo Kokveld (Thembu).

By LEHLOHONOLO MBATHA RAP duo Fresh Boyz want to take rap music to new heights. Sabelo Masuku, who goes by the stage name Samagic, and Kelibone Kwakwa – better known as Purple Kray – love making music. The duo from Tembisa in Ekurhuleni aim to take the Mzansi rap scene by storm. “We’ve always been known as trap music turn-up artists and our fans can still expect that
from our new offering, which will be released in November,” said Purple Kray. He said they’d released their first single, Molamo, to appetise their fans. “We’ve received such good reviews so far.” They always try to represent their kasi in their music. They have a huge social media following, and the support they’ve received has earned them places at big events in
Mzansi, such as at the Back To The City Festival. Fresh Boyz was founded in 2005. Samagic told SunBuzz: “When we were younger we use to rap just to pass time. “But after friends told us how good we were, we decided to start doing this for a living.” He said the friends started booking them to perform at their birthday parties, wedding and other functions.
FAITH is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report (Hebrews 11:1). The elders of faith such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Apostle Paul and many others obtained a good report because of faith. Abraham was an old man and his wife had passed child bearing age but they received a bouncing baby boy (Isaac) through faith. This miracle was despite the report that declared Sarah unable to conceive. Hannah was barren and was ridiculed by her counterpart Peninah. She used
her faith to claim a good report from the Lord. Are you facing an impossible situation? Is there a medical report that declares your case hopeless? Faith can generate a good report regardless of your situation. Children of God, there is nothing that Jehovah cannot do. Luke 1:35 says nothing is impossible with God. Is anything too hard for the Lord? Faith believes in God’s ability. If your faith says yes, God cannot say no. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that it is impossible to please God without faith.

Dear Hester I speak blessings over the work of your hands. There is no sickness that Jesus cannot heal. I declare healing over your body in Jesus’ name. I also call on God’s grace to give your family a breakthrough. May the Lord bless you and keep you.
Dear Pastor Daniel, My name is Lehlohonolo (35). I am married with two sons, but I’m unemployed. Can you please pray for me to find work? I’ve been applying for work, but had no luck. Dear Lehlohonolo
Matthew 18:19 reads: “Again, I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my father in heaven.” I therefore declare grace for your employment in Jesus’ name.
IF you’d like to accept Jesus as your Lord and saviour, follow me in this prayer. Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. I believe in my heart that you died for me on the Cross
of Calvary. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in my heart that Christ has died for me. I believe that from today, I am a child of God and that my sins are forgiven. Amen.

He has a good heart.” Madikizela visited the family immediately after the tragedy and promised to help bury the fire victims. This week, he visited the family and presented the gogo with proof of payment for all the burial costs. Madikizela said he was deeply touched by the incident and could not sit back. “I was touched and that is why I decided to contribute to relieve the
family’s stress. At times like these, old people shouldn’t have to worry about how they will bury their loved ones. The loss is more than enough worry for her. I am glad to help gogo bury her loved ones with dignity,” said the MEC. “We would like to thank the MEC, Nobetha Undertakers, Sanco, the pastors and the media,” said Sandile. The six members of the family were transported to Nqoleni Village in the Eastern Cape, where they were buried on Saturday.

Bricks Mavulana, one of the organisation founders, said it was their job to help people. He told Daily Sun they often get help from boozers. “When we are at the tavern, we don’t only focus on having fun. We also encourage boozers to donate food and other things to the poor ekasi.” Another founder, Mongezi Mathebe, said most people look down on boozers. “They think people who go to the taverns don’t do anything to help others, but that’s not true. “We all agreed to bring our old clothes to the tavern to help poor people.”
He said most of the people who drink at the local tavern bring their old clothes to the shebeen. “The clothes we donated to Ekuphumleni were given to us by them,” Mongezi told the People’s Paper. He their organisation was started in 2014 and has more than 100 members. Nandi Dlamini, a manager at the old age home, said they were grateful to the organisation for helping them. “We’re so happy for what the organisation does for us. “We were not aware that boozers could be so kind. “We hope they will continue to help other people in the area,” she said.

SUNSTUFF STARS
YOUR DAILY DOSE OF FUN IN THE SUN!
Libra (Sep 23-Oct 22) Work: There is a lot to gain from working closely with colleagues as a team. Life: Many hands make light work and many minds think of fabulous ideas. Share the workload. Mind: You’re thinking too much about finances and forgetting about the small things that make life worthwhile.
Taurus (Apr 20 - May 20) Love & Money: Don’t expect an easy ride where finances are concerned; love does not come cheap. Money: You will have to make some compromises on quality; you don’t always have to buy the very best. Self: Being pre-occupied with money and material possessions will not guarantee you contentment.
Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 21) Mind & Work: You know that the higher your qualification the better your financial rewards. Work: If you want the dream job you’ll have to be willing to make some sacrifices to get it. Luck: High-achievers are not lucky. You have no idea how hard they worked to get what they have.
Gemini (May 21 - Jun 20) Health: If you feel even slightly off-colour it would be wise to see your health practitioner. Self: Don’t ignore the signals of your body; pain is designed as a warning signal to ensure your health. Life: Reassess your values and realign your life to live in line with what you believe.
Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec 21) Love: Allowing a friend to know the intimate details of your relationship is not a great idea. Friendship: Even the very best friends should have a boundary of secrets and trust that is respected. Love: Whenever you’re in doubt about a choice, consider if you would mind the same treatment.
Cancer (Jun 21 - Jul 22) Family: Everyone looks to you to sort out a troublesome situation, but you would rather avoid it. Friends & Love: If you listen to them instead of your heart you will pay a price that you cannot afford. Self: Listen to your heart when you’re in doubt of your mind; gut instinct can be trusted.
Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 20) Love: You’re still struggling with questions and searching for answers that you won’t find. Life: Change the things that you can, and accept the things that you can’t. Self: A bitter state of mind is not going to be of value to you. All it will achieve is to push more people away from you.
Leo (Jul 23 - Aug 22) Work & Home: If your family could see the advantages your work holds for them they might understand. Self: What you say might not be quite as important as the way in which you say it. Speak with a warm heart. Money: Your budget might not have the high standard of living that you want.
Aquarius (Jan 21 - Feb 18) Work & Love: You will find comfort in discussing your work anxieties with your lover. Problem solved! Self: Often once you’ve spoken your thoughts aloud you’re better able to make choices. Mind: Good and bad possibilities can be combined and changed until the perfect idea is formed.
Today’s Birthdays: William “Count” Basie, US jazz musician (1904-1984); Britain’s Princess Margaret (1930-2002); Melvin Van Peebles, US film actor/ director (1932-); Kenny Rogers, US country singer (1938-).
Virgo (Aug 23 - Sep 22) Money: Borrowing money from friends isn’t advisable this week and, if you do, ensure it’s repaid on time. Friends: A friend may seek comfort and advice from you while they are going through a difficult time. Love: A family member may introduce you to someone special if you’re single.
Pisces (Feb 19 - Mar 19) Work: By creating a regular routine you create a recipe for frequent success. It’s a matter of mastery through repetition! Self: Be careful of what you say to others as it may end up doing the rounds as unnecessary gossip. Love: There are possibilities if you are willing to take a few unusual routes to gain the prize!
Thought For Today: Happiness, it seems to me, consists of two things: first, in being where you belong, and second – and best - in comfortably going through everyday life, that is, having had a good night’s sleep and not being hurt by new shoes – Theodor Fontane, German author (1819-1898). – SAPA-AP

A man went to the doctor complaining of insomnia. The doctor gave him an examination and found nothing physically wrong with him. “Listen,” the doctor said: “if you ever expect to cure your insomnia, you need to stop taking your troubles to bed with you.” “It’s true,” said the patient, “but my wife refuses to sleep alone.”

Aries (Mar 20 - Apr 19) Health: A life of moderation will lead to the state of health you desire. A little bit of everything is allowed. HUMAN’S SEA BEAN TO CRUISE IN By SUN RACING EDITOR TODAY’S meeting at Flamingo Park will feature a Pick 6 Carryover of R125 995 with an estimated pool of R500 000 and the one who rates a banker is Bill Human-trained top-weight Sea Bean who steps out in race 5 (Leg 2) with Ryan Munger aboard again in a MR 72 Handicap (F&M) over 1 800m. Sea Bean was trained by Geoff Woodruff and had her first run for Human three runs back when she stormed home a seven-length winner with Munger up in the 1 600m Kimberley Classic. The combination was not disgraced next time when fourth over 1 800m at the Vaal. She found 2 200m a bit too far in her subsequent outing when fourth in the Diamond Stayers at Flamingo Park. The two-time winner has scope for improvement as that run was after a rest and she should recover the losses this time over the shorter distance. She

could be followed home by Pep Squad, Florrick and Over Achiever. Corrie Lensley-trained Splashy (Muzi Yeni) looks the one to beat in race 4 (leg 1), a 1 600m Maiden Plate. This lightly raced filly was a promising fourth out of 14 from a wide draw in her last run when having her first outing for Lensley over 1 200m. With a troublefree run and the best draw this time and taking on just six rivals she could be in the winner’s enclosure. She will have to watch out for her stablemate River Rafter (Mathew Thackeray) who, in spite of a slow start, has been placed in her last two runs with Thackeray up Race 7 (leg 4), a 1 000m MR 64 Handicap is a tricky contest but the one who could have the edge is Gauteng raider Casa De Var (Gunter Wrogemann) out of Louis Goosen’s stable. This two-time winner has run at this course once and that was last time when a runner-up over 1000m

Five-time winner Modjadji, who had apprentice Mpumelelo Mjoka up in her first two runs for Dennis Cason’s stable and swept all aside at Flamingo Park over 1 000m, looks on target to complete the course hat-trick in race 8 (leg 5), a MR Handicap (F&M) over 1 200m. The mare was not disgraced in her subsequent run with Mjoka aboard at the Vaal where she was up in class and finished a good 1,4 fourth in a 1 200m MR 72 Handicap. Others who come into the reckoning are Cash In Camilla and Fatal Attraction. Though having a wide draw, Duncan McKenzie-trained two-time winner Tayaar could come to light in race 9 (leg 6), a 1 400m MR 62 Handicap. Expect a challenge from the likes of Manouche, Oratio and Tide Report.

MUZI YENI SHINES AT TURFFONTEIN
By SUN RACING EDITOR FOLLOWERS of the money had a tough time at Turffontein on Saturday when only two favourites arrived on the nineevent card. But, it was a good day for jockey Muzi Yeni as he was the top scorer of the day with two wins – the first of which was aboard Robbie Sage-trained 17-10 favourite Think Twice in race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1 600m. Yeni had the three-year-old Think Twice in front from the start, ahead of Lady Defender (72-10), Kings Creek (4-1), while Rolled Silver (4-1) was midfield and Generoso (50-1) last. In a thrilling finish Think Twice hung on gamely by a head from Kings Creek with Rolled Silver a similar distance back third place. Generoso ran on best of the others to claim fourth place a further 5,5 lengths behind. However, Yeni did punters no favours in race 8 when scoring on Chris Erasmus-trained Daytona Charger (16-1) in a 1 600m MR 72 Handicap. He brought the five-year-old through from well off the pace with a storming finish down the extreme inside and in a keen duel he outpaced the 22-10 favourite Full Mast to the line by half a length. Artemisia (17-1) ran on strongly to claim third place 1,25 lengths back, with Aza Arrow (45-1) a similar distance behind in fourth position. Pleased with the five-year-old’s gutsy win, Yeni said: “I thought he was well
handicapped, he’s won a couple of races so with a light weight he had to be competitive. It’s always tough, how confident can you be? But full marks to Mr Erasmus – the horse was fit and well. He went down feeling like a horse that could win and obviously it was just getting him into the best possible position. I wanted to be just a little bit closer, as at the inside track you know they tend to strike back up the hill and I was quite concerned that I might just be a little bit out of my ground. But he showed great turn of foot and the minute the gaps came and I rushed him in there,
he quickly responded. I thought he won a gutsy race!” Jockey Marco van Rensburg had the distinction of closing the meeting on a happy note when scoring on Lucky Houdalakis-trained 41-10 favourite September Bloom in race 9, a MR 68 Handicap (F&M) over 1 800m. With a change of tactics, Beautiful Shay (25-1) was rushed into the lead while September Bloom was midfield, six lengths off the pace. Let loose at the top of the straight, the favourite came storming through on the inside but had to be fully extended before beating Beautiful Shay.

Khan hopes for quiet comeback Former South African champion jockey Mark Khan will return to the saddle on Thursday at Turffontein more than seven years after announcing his retirement from riding. Khan, who turns 49 on 30 September, has been out for quite some time through injury, but has still been active on the racing front. He has been working horses and helping various trainers for some time now. When asked about his comeback Khan said: “I just want it to be a quiet return. I just want to ease back into riding and give myself some time to settle down.” However, that is unlikely to happen as the return of a fivetime champion is unlikely to go through unnoticed. It is ironic his first ride on Thursday comes in Race 2 over 1000m on the Standside track is aptly named “All Eyes On You”, a Judpot first-timer trained by Paul Matchett. Khan’s other rides are Effortless in Race 4 and Craft Club in Race 5, both for Gary Alexander, and Enter The Dragon in Race 8.

KESA KEEPS HER COOL!
Yesterday’s Spar Women’s 10km Challenge winner Kesa Molotsane is flanked by runner-up Rutendo Nyahora and third-placed Irvette van Zyl (right) after their finish at the Oval Cricket Stadium in Pietermaritzburg. Photo by Gallo Images
By MAXWELL RAMARU KESA Molotsane says being injuryfree was key to winning the 2017 Spar Women’s 10km Challenge held in Pietermaritzburg yesterday. She crossed the finish line in a time of 34:21. This is the third race of the six-legged Grand Prix the 25-year-old has won, beating one of the favourites and reigning champion Irvette van Zyl, who finished third in 34:37. Rutendo Nyahora came second in 34:34. This was also a setback for Lebogang Phałula, who could only muster a fourth place finish as her twin sister Lebo pulled out of the event at the eleventh hour due to flu. Van Zyl, of the Nedbank Running Club, led the group at 2km, with Nyahora and Phalula trailing her. Although Van Zyl and Phalula were neck and neck at the 5km mark, the race took its toll on both athletes towards the 8km mark, allowing Molotsane, who had a slow start to the race, a chance to catch up and win it.
A delighted Molotsane said: “It feels good to win. The race had many hills and that’s what I like. It’s a pity that the Pretoria leg, which also had hills, didn’t work out for me. “It was very cold this morning and I started at the back of everyone else because I was shivering. I caught up with them just halfway through and it worked out for me. I am happy to have won.” Molotsane made it clear that she hadn’t changed her training programme to win the race. The athlete, of KPMG Running Club, has now shifted her focus to the World Student Games in Taipei, Taiwan, which started on Saturday already. The Bloemfontein based athlete stayed behind in Mzansi to compete in the race in an attempt to accumulate enough points to win the Grand Prix. Molotsane currently leads the Grand Prix standings with Van Zyl in second position. The runner is also looking forward to the final Joburg leg of the Grand Prix scheduled for 8 October.

TAU MUST ROAR! Pitso advises star midfielder to score
By TSHIFHIWA LUVHENGO PERCY Tau has been cautioned by his Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane to tone down on showboating and start scoring – which helps win matches. And the 23-year-old star learned the hard way that his coach wants goals when he got substituted in the 77th minute in their 2-0 win against SuperSport United in a Tshwane derby at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday. Tau was replaced by Anthony Laffor. Tau’s sour face was plain to see for both the fans at the stadium and those watching on TV as the player could not hide his disappointment after being pulled off. “Percy is a great player, never shy to take on defenders,” said the 53-year-old Mosimane. “He enjoys playing football. You can see when he is playing that he’s enjoying it and is happy. He also enjoys dribbling and I have nothing against that. But I think this is time for him to start scoring goals. “I told him that I want his teammates to complain to me that ‘Percy always wants to score goals and doesn’t pass to us’.” The goals that stuck a knife in Eric Tinkler’s heart in his first Absa Premiership match for SuperSport came via Hlompho Kekana and Themba Zwane. “I could see that Percy was disappointed that I had pulled him off,” said the 2016 African Champions Leaguewinning coach. “I told him that I was protecting him. He was missing chances and I didn’t want anybody (fans) turning against him. He understood. He is a brave player who keeps us buzzing and alive. You could see when I took him off that we lost that buzz. But he had a great first half with Zwane.” Mosimane also heaped praise on 32-yearold Ugandan goalkeeper Denis Onyango for coming to their rescue when they made mistakes. “We could have been punished for that. Thanks to Denis we weren’t. The Tshwane derby always produces goals and excitement,” said Mosimane, calling on fans to rally behind his team.

Patience pays off for Boks SOUTH Africa coach Allister Coetzee praised the patience of his side as they produced a highenergy second half performance to overcome Argentina 37-15 in their Rugby Championship opener at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday. The Springboks dominated possession and territory in the first half but could only manage a 13-5 lead at the break, before three tries in the second half made their fourth successive win in 2017 a comfortable one. “The Pumas were tough to break down. A lot of credit must go to the leadership of the team, who stayed patient,” Coetzee said. “The message at half-time was to stay patient and keep doing what we were doing.
“We also needed to play in behind them, they were leaving gaps at the back and I think we exploited that. We managed to create space.” The Boks travel to Salta for their away match against Argentina on Saturday, and Coetzee knows where his side will need to be more clinical. “We need to improve in a number of areas, such as tactical kicking and our lineouts,” he said. – REUTERS

CHIEFS IN TAME DRAW!
Maritzburg United steal Platinum Stars’ shine
By SUNSPORT REPORTER NOT for the first time, Kaizer Chiefs failed to hang on to a precious lead yesterday as they played to a 1-1 league draw in their opening match against Bloemfontein Celtic at Free State Stadium. Defender Eric Mathoho grabbed the lead with a powerful header on 37 minutes but later watched from the bench as substitute Atusaye Nyondo cancelled out his opener. Lorenzo Gordinho handled inside the area and Nyondo made no mistake, converting the penalty midway through the second half. But again, the spotlight fell on coach Steve Komphela as the Soweto giants made a sluggish start to their Absa Premiership season, the draw surely feeling like a knife being driven into an open wound following their recent MTN8 Cup exit. Bucs in calmer waters after Chippa win
By MTHOKOZISI MKHONZA ORLANDO Pirates could not have asked for a better start to the season! New coaches Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic and Rhulani Mokwena, along with new players, goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands and Thami Sangweni, helped Bucs defeat Chippa United 1-0 on Saturday. The goal also came from an unexpected source in Thamsanqa Gabuza, who hit a diving header to see Bucs sail into calmer waters after a disastrous 2016-17 season. Now the Sea Robbers would like to maintain their winning form with another victory over Limpopo side Baroka FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium tomorrow (7.30pm). Sredojevic urged his players not to get too excited by their first win of the season, which is a similar start to the one they had last season when they beat Golden Arrows 3-1. The worrying factor for Bucs ahead of tomorrow’s clash is that they were only able to collect two points from Baroka in the last campaign following two 1-1 draws. Sredojevic said there was still a lot of work to do and they needed to find their killer instinct again. “I’m happy with the commitment and dedication of the players and the technical team. I want to warn them, one good step doesn’t mean anything,” he said. “There’s still so much to improve, so much to develop. We want to defend by attacking. Our team’s mental strength was tapped last season. Certain changes will come, we shall approach every game like a cup final. “Next up is Baroka and we are looking forward to performing much better. We had a poor transition to attack and could not finish, which is unacceptable.” Chippa coach Dan Malesela, who was back at Orlando Stadium for the first time since 1992 when he captained the Buccaneers, said his team made a lot of individual errors.
