CV l Cover Letter

HELLO! I am a graduate architect with a passion for art and architecture. My love for art since young has strongly influenced by interests in architecture. I have always enjoyed the emotional journey that I experienced through drawing, painting and crafting. This leads me to believing that architects can be experience makers as well; sensitively juggling between poetic gestures and pragmatic realities. I grew interest in space and their connection with phenomenology and human occupation or any other living things. I love to explore how materiality, lighting and sequences play in the architecture of sense. After having a working experience in an architecture firm, it has been a fortunate journey to be able to discover myself more as a designer. I believe in designs that embrace its context and users. Raw in its materials, focuses on function and construction technique to create a unique, individualistic kind of living. Furthermore, I am also interested in micro-narratives, designing the micro-details of a space to accommodate the user’s needs.

Being an overseas student have shaped me to become an open minded, independent and hardworking person. I am exposed to different design approaches, constructions techniques and technologies that are adopted by different countries/cultures. I am also an open minded person and will take on any opportunities to learn and enrich my skills and knowledge in architecture and other fields. I am also happy to work in a team based environment and enjoy working with others. Other than that I am also a passionate watercolor illustrator, animal lover and plants enthusiast.

“Resurfacing” “Rethinking Memories and revisiting traumatic past of Chinese Indonesian.” This project is a speculative project that is based on a real state project that is currently happening in Jakarta called “Kota Tua Revitalisation Project”. This thesis project involves the adaptive reuse of a heritage building as well as designing a new meaningful contemporary space within a history urban setting. Inspired by the existing shophouse typology of “Rumah Akar”, “Resurfacing” aims to focus on Chinese-Indonesians as one example of suppressed ethnic group that experienced multiple racial violences during both colonial and post-colonial period. There is a need for a place that symbolizes the appreciation of the Chinese Indonesian experiences of violence and the difficulties. A place that can overcome their traumatic past, acting on Indonesia’s unspoken desires for justice, forgiveness, and relief (Kusno 2010). The proposal as a whole is a monument consisting of a 2 floor community center, underground museum and rooftop museum which symbolizes the “trade of ideas”. Please refer to my issuu page to read more about this project.

“Overlap” - The Factory “Bringing overlapping and superimposition ideas of Pop Art into architecture.” The factory wants to provide Andy and his Superstars the architectural experience when two space are overlapped into one. What happens when one space disrupts the flow of another? There will be overlapping of activities, creating a dynamic and hybrid atmosphere. The design of the factory is inspired by the overlapping and superimposition ideas of Pop Art translated into an architectural composition. The key architectural drive is the overlapping of servant and served spaces.

A Pluralist World “Exploring pluralism in architecture and space.” 4 Gallery Designs, 4 Museums Interventions and 1 World This conceptual project is based on Rory Hyde’s (curator) interview and lecture on “All This Belongs to You” V&A Museum project. It is driven by one key term, “pluralism”. In his lecture, Rory was exploring how museum is a public sphere and how it should create conversations about daily life and global issues. The question then became how do we bring this idea into architecture and space? This is what he said, “...how do you bring in pluralism, I think is the key word in terms of interpretations. When a museum becomes a public sphere, it needs to be continuous with the street and with all that occurs in the real world, so you let the outside world in and that means letting in politics, current events, conflicts, difficult questions of public life...” This project explored the idea of pluralism defined by different theorist and architects such as Charles Jenks, Frank Gehry, Daniel Libeskind, Peter Eisenman and Bernard Tschumi.

Tectonic Grounds - Kabuto Interactive structure Tectonic Grounds is an exploration of digital fabrication technique, physical computing and rapid (laser cut) prototyping to deliver a 1:1 folly. The subject has an emphasis on hands on exploration of spatial and creative processes and challenge the role of drawing, making and construction skills within today’s technology. Actively involved both in the trial and error exploration during the smaller group phase (first phase) and in publication, fabrication and construction during the big group assembly of Kabuto (second phase). Kabuto is a lovely creature which expresses its pulse through constant blinking lights and loves human interaction! It flickers excitedly when new friends are nearby.
