ΠΕΛΑΣΓΟΙ, ΧΑΛΚΙΔΕΙΣ ΚΑΙ ΟΙ ΠΕΡΣΙΚΟΙ ΠΟΛΕΜΟΙ Η Σκιάθος αναφέρεται σε γραφές από τα προϊστορικά χρόνια (1100 π.Χ.). ∆ιάφοροι λαοί πέρασαν από το νησί και άφησαν τα ίχνη τους. Πρώτοι λέγεται ότι ήταν οι Πελασγοί. Έπειτα πέρασαν πιθανότατα οι Κρήτες (οι οποίοι ονόµαζαν τον ∆ιόνυσο, Σκιάνθιο) και οι Χαλκιδείς. Εκείνοι έκτισαν και την πρώτη πόλη στο ΝΑ λιµάνι στην περιοχή Κεφάλα (1) η οποία υπήρξε ώς την µεσαιωνική εποχή. Σύµφωνα µε τον Ηρόδοτο, το 480 π.Χ., οι Έλληνες ειδοποιήθηκαν µε πυρσούς από τη Σκιάθο για την άφιξη του Περσικού Στόλου. Με το πέρασµα του χρόνου ιδρύθηκε δεύτερος οικισµός στη θέση που βρίσκεται η σηµερινή πόλη της Σκιάθου. Ως µέλος της Αθηναϊκής Συµµαχίας η Σκιάθος βελτίωσε την οικονοµική της κατάσταση µέχρι που έκοψε µπρούτζινα νοµίσµατα µε την παράσταση της κεφαλής του Ερµή και του κηρύκειου µε την λέξη CΚΙΑΘΙ (1b).

PELASGIANS, CHALKIDIANS AND THE PERSIAN WARS Skiathos is mentioned in historical records as far back as 1,100 BC. Several cultures have influenced the island, the first probably the famous Pelasgians. Then came the Cretans, they worshipped the god Dionysos (also known as Skianthios) - possibly where the name Skiathos originated from. Lastly came the Chalkidians (1) who built the first town on the south-eastern part of the island - Xanemos/Kefala. According to Herodotus (480BC) the Greeks were warned of the approach of the Persian Fleet by fire beacons on Skiathos. A second colony was built on the site of the present town. Skiathos prospered as part of the Athenian Alliance and even cut its own bronze coins with an icon of Hermes on one side and the cyricium with the word CKIAΘI (1b) on the other side.

PELASGIER, CHALKIDIER UND DIE PERSISCHEN KRIEGE Skiathos wird bereits in antiken Schriften (1.100 v. Chr.) erwähnt. Verschiedene Völker haben ihre Spuren auf der Insel hinterlassen. Die ersten waren die Pelasgier. Anschließend kamen die Kreter (die den Gott Dionysos auch Skianthios nannten) und die Chalkidier. Welche die erste Siedlung im südöstlichen Teil der Insel im Gebiet Kefala errichteten (1). Nach Herodot sollen die Griechen 480 v. Chr. durch Leuchtfeuer aus Skiathos über die Ankunft der Persischen Flotte gewarnt worden sein. Mit der Zeit entstand eine zweite Siedlung an der Stelle des heutigen Skiathos. Als Teil der Athenischen Allianz, gelang Skiathos zu Wohlstand und prägte sogar eigene Bronzemünzen mit dem Abbild des Hermes auf der einen Seite und dem Hermesstab mit dem Wort CΚΙΑΘΙ (1b) auf der anderen Seite.

ΟΙ ΑΛΛΕΠΑΛΗΛΕΣ ΕΠΙΔΡΟΜΕΣ ΚΑΙ ΤΟ ΚΑΙΝΟΥΡΓΙΟ ΣΠΙΤΙ ΣΤΟ ΚΑΣΤΡΟ Στην Ρωµαϊκη και Βυζαντινή εποχή το νησί υπέφερε απο πολλές επιδροµές. Το 1204 κατελήφθη από τους αδερφούς Γκίζι, βενετσιάνους επιχειρηµατίες οι οποίοι έκτισαν το Μπούρτζι (2, λιµάνι). Εκδιώχθηκαν όµως λίγο αργότερα από τον Βυζαντινό στόλο. Λόγω των αλλεπάλληλων επιδροµών από Τούρκους και Πειρατές, οι Σκιαθίτες αποφάσισαν να εγκαταλείψουν τον οικισµό στο λιµάνι και να κτίσουν και να εγκατασταθούν στο Κάστρο (3) στην Βόρεια πλευρά του νησιού. Η Σκιάθος κυριαρχείται εναλλάξ από Τούρκους και Ενετούς.

ΠΕΡΙ ΣΚΙΑΘΟΥ | ABOUT SKIATHOS | ÜBER SKIATHOS ONGOING ATTACKS AND THE NEW HOME In Roman and Byzantine times the island suffered from many pirate and Roman attacks. In 1204 it was conquered from the brothers Gizi, Venetian traders who built the Bourtzi (2, old harbour). A few years later the brothers were thrown off the islands by the Byzantine fleet. Due to many attacks by pirates and Turks, the Skiathitians decided to quit the town in the SE part and built the protected Kastro (3) on the Northern part of the island. Unfortunately this didn’t prevent Skiathos being conquered by the Turks and Venetians.

SKIATHITEN SEEFAHRER UND DIE GRIECH. REVOLUTION

Skiathos became a busy port. Developing trade links throughout Greece and abroad. In 1770 ships from Skiathos were involved in the Battle of Τsesme and later supported the famous Greek resistance fighter Κatsonis. The Skiathites also helped in the Greek revolution against the Turks by shipping weapons and goods as well as taking refugees from the mainland. It is also said that the first Greek flag with the white cross on a blue background (4b) was made in September 1807 at the holy monastery of Evangelistria (4). Also the famous freedomfighter Nikotsaras is said to be buried on the beach beneath the monastery (5). After the peace treaty of London the Skiathites felt secure enough to return to the old town in the Southern part of the island after many many years. 5 More information is available at the historic sites and the tourist information office.

Im Laufe der Zeit entwickelten sich die Skiathiten zu geschickten Seefahrern und Händlern. Im Jahre 1770 nahmen Sie an der Seeschlacht von Τsesme teil und später unterstützten sie den bekannten Widerstandskämpfer Κatsonis. Außerdem engagierten sie sich in der Griechischen Revolution gegen die Türken, durch den Waffen– und Gütertransport sowie durch die Aufnahme von Flüchtlingen vom Festland. Zudem heißt es, dass die erste griechische Flagge mit weißem Kreuz auf blauem Hintergrund (4b) im September 1807 im Kloster Evangelistria (4) The hidden Nikotsara beach (5) entworfen und gewoben wurde. In der versteckt gelegenen Bucht unter dem Kloster soll der berühmte Freiheitskämpfer Nikotsaras begraben sein (5). Nach dem Friedensabkommen von London fühlten sich die Skiathiten sicher genug wieder in ihren alten Ort im Süden der Insel zurückzukehren. Έζησε µόνος, απένταρος, πιστός στην τέχνη του, αδιάφορος για τα χρήµατα και την κοινωνική καταξίωση, µοίρασε τη ζωή του ανάµεσα στα καπηλειά και στις εκκλησίες. Τα έργα του εκφράζουν κοινωνική κριτική. Μετά από τόσα χρόνια τα έργα του, όπως «Η Φόνισσα» και «Η Γυφτοπούλα», είναι ακόµα και σήµερα επίκαιρα. Την εποχή εκείνη η Σκιάθος έβγαλε κι άλλους διάσηµους ανθρώπους της τέχνης και τον γραµµάτων. Ο Αλέξανδρος Μωραϊτίδης (2) και ο Γεώργιος Ρήγας (3), και οι δύο απόφοιτοι του διάσηµου Βαρβακείου. Ο πρώτος καθηγητής, συγγραφέας και δηµοσιογράφος και ο δεύτερος δηµοδιδάσκαλος και ιερέας στην Σκιάθο. Και οι τρείς τους και ο καθένας µε τον τρόπο του, συνέβαλαν στην πνευµατική άνοδο του τόπου. 1

160 years have past since the birth of Alexandros Papadiamantis the famous writer and poet from Skiathos. He lived alone, poor, with no interest in money or social status. Even after so many years his famous works, like „the Murderess“ and „the gipsy girl“ are still up-to-date. During this time Skiathos produced other famous writers and artists, e.g. Alexandros Moraitidis and Georgios Rigas, both scholars of the famous Varvakio in Athens.

Moraitidis was a professor and journalist and Rigas was a teacher and priest in Skiathos. All three knew each other and their acquaintance had a positive impact on each other's work. 160 jahre sind vergangen seit der Geburt von Alexandros Papadiamantis, dem berühmten Autor und Dichter von Skiathos. Er war ein Mann der Kunst und der Kirche. So woh l Trad ition sbewusstsein wie auch Gesellschaftskritik kommen in seinen Werken zum Ausdruck. Nach so vielen Jahren sind seine bekanntesten Werke, wie z.B. „die Mörderin“ und „die Zigeunerin“ immer noch aktuell. In dieser Zeit brachte die Insel viele weitere bekannte Künstler hervor. Alexandros Moraitidis und Georgios Rigas, beide Schüler der berühmten Varvakio Schule in Athen. Moraitidis war Professor an der Schule und später Journalist. Rigas wurde Lehrer und Priester auf der Insel. Alle drei kannten sich persönlich und ihre Bekanntschaft wirkte sich positiv auf ihre geistigen Werke aus.

Skiathos is just 4 km. from the mainland. Unlike many greek islands it has its own sweet water supply. It is said that the water comes via an underground river from the Pillion on the mainland. 4 km, das ist die Entfernung von Skiathos zum Festland (5). Beatles in Greece Ιστορίες λένε ότι το 1964 οι Beatles έδειξαν ενδιαφέρον να αγοράσουν το µικρό καταπράσινο νησάκι του Τσουγκριά απέναντι από την Σκιάθο. It is said that in 1964 the famous Beatles were interested in buying the little green island of Tsougria opposite Skiathos. Ένας από τους σπουδαιότερους Έλληνες αρχιτέκτονες του Μεσοπολέµου, ο ∆ηµήτρης Πικιώνης, λέγεται πως έκτισε το εκκλησάκι του Αγίου Φλώρου. Ένα ξωκλήσι που όµοιό του δεν θα συναντήσει κανείς πουθενά αλλού στην Ελλάδα. Κτίσµα απλό στην εµφάνισή του, αλλά έξω από τους παραδοσιακούς αρχιτεκτονικούς ρυθµούς. Ο Άγιος Φλώρος είναι σίγουρα ένα µοντέρνο κτίσµα, το οποίο δένει απόλυτα µε το τοπίο καθώς φαντάζει σαν προέκταση του βράχου, πάνω στον οποίο στηρίζεται. Το ξωκλήσι µε τη σηµερινή µορφή του χτίστηκε το 1965, ενώ η ιστορία αναφέρει την ύπαρξη παλαιότερου κτίσµατος το

οποίο καταστράφηκε. Στην αρχική του µορφή το εκκλησάκι είχε κτιστεί από τους µοναχούς που ασκήτευαν στο νησί και αµέσως κέρδισε την αγάπη και το σεβασµό των κατοίκων της Σκιάθου. The small church of Agios Floros on the island of Tsougria is said to been built by the famous Greek architect Dimitris Pikionis. This unique building fits perfectly into its environment and although built in 1965 is very modern. Papadiamantis House

Εδώ έζησε ο διάσηµος συγγραφέας Αλέξανδρος Παπαδιαµάντης µε τους γονείς και τα αδέλφια του. Το κτίριο χτίστηκε το 1860 και απεικονίζει την χαρακτηριστική αρχιτεκτονική της Σκιάθου, η οποία δηµιουργεί µια σύνθετη εικόνα νησιώτικου και Πηλιορείτικου στιλ, µε νεοκλασσικά στοιχεία. Τα σπίτια είναι ως επί το πλείστον µικρά, χτισµένα το ένα κοντά στο άλλο, διώροφα και πέτρινα. Το σπίτι έχει µετατραπεί σε Μουσείο στο οποίο µπορείτε και να µάθετε για τον Παπαδιαµάντη άλλα και να πάρετε µια γεύση από την ζωή εκείνης τις εποχής. The famous Greek writer/poet Alexandros Papadiamantis lived here with his parents and siblings. The house was built in 1860 and is typical of that era. The architecture being a characteristic mix of island and Pilion style with neoclassic elements. The houses were mostly built small, near each other, with two floors and made of stone. Nowadays the house is a museum where you can get to know the poet himself and also get insights in the living conditions if that time. Hier lebte der berühmte griechische Autor / Dichter Alexandros Papadiamantis mit seinen Eltern und Geschwistern. Das Gebäude wurde 1860 gebaut und gibt die zeitgenössische Architektur, eine Mischung aus Insel-, der für die Region Pilion typischen Architektur und neoklassischen Elementen, wieder. Die Häuser waren meist klein, zweistöckig, eng nebeneinander und aus Stein gebaut. Heutzutage ist das Haus ein Museum, wo Sie einiges über das Leben des Dichters erfahren und einen Einblick in die damalige Zeit bekommen.

Φορεσιές | Costumes | Trachten Πριν 200 xρόνια οι άντρες φορούσαν βράκες και µακρύ φέσι µε µακριά φούντα. Mετά την Επανάσταση του 1821 άρχισαν να αντικαθιστούν τις βράκες µε παντελόνια και σακάκια. Οι γυναίκες όµως διατήρησαν τη Σκιαθίτικη ενδυµασία και τον 20º αιώνα, η οποία αποτελείται από 11 χειροποίητα κοµµάτια, εξαιρετικής τέχνης και καλαισθησίας. Traditional costumes worn by Skiathitians 200 years ago are welldocumented. Men wore pantaloons, a long tarboosh and pompom. But, a few years later, after the Revolution of 1821 the men started replacing their pantaloons with trousers and jackets. The women however kept the traditional dress that consists of 11 pieces that are not easy to wear. vor 200 Jahren trugen die Männer breite Kniehosen und einen kegel-förmigen Hut aus Filz mit einer langen Quaste. Nach der Revolution von 1821 wurden die Hosen und Jacketts immer populärer, so dass die Kniehosen bald ersetzt wurden. Die Frauen behielten ihre Tracht noch lange bei. Diese besteht aus 11 kunstvoll gefertigten Teilen.

Μουσικά όργανα του κόσμου| Musical Instruments of the World| Μusik8 instrumente aus der ganzen Welt Όλα ξεκίνησαν το 1970 στην Ελβετία, όταν ο Zack, ένας συµφοιτητής της κ. ∆εληγιάννη Άννας και του κ. Claude Monnier, τους ζήτησε να βρουν για λογαριασµό του ένα σαντούρι. Μετά από µεγάλη δυσκολία ο πατέρας της κ. ∆εληγιάννη κατάφερε να βρει ένα, σε δηµοπρατήριο, στο Μοναστηράκι. Με αφορµή αυτήν την αναζήτηση, συνειδητοποίησαν πως τα λαϊκά µουσικά όργανα εξαλείφονται και αντικαθίστανται από τα σύγχρονα. Μπήκε έτσι µέσα τους το «µικρόβιο» του συλλέκτη. Καταλυτικό ρόλο έπαιξαν οι επαγγελµατικές υποχρεώσεις της οικογένειας, αφού ως διπλωµάτες ταξίδεψαν σε πολλές χώρες του κόσµου και µέχρι σήµερα έχουν συγκεντρώσει πάνω από 1.600 µουσικά όργανα από 82 χώρες των πέντε ηπείρων. Με αµείωτο ενδιαφέρον η κ. ∆εληγιάννη και ο κ. Monnier, συνεχίζουν τον εµπλουτισµό της συλλογής τους, που φέτος θα στεγάζεται στο Μπούρτζι της Σκιάθου. Everything started in 1970 when the father of Mrs. Deligianni (the owner of the collection) was searching for a „santouri“ (musical instrument). Once infected by the “collector virus”, his interest grew and so did his collection, eventually numbering some 1,600 authentic instruments. These treasures from all over the world are on display this summer at the Bourtzi (harbour). Alles begann 1970 als der Vater von Frau Deligianni (Eigentümerin der Sammlung) nach einem „Santouri“ (Musikinstrument) suchte. Dadurch mit dem Sammlervirus infiziert, wuchs die Sammlung von Jahr zu Jahr, so dass sie jetzt bis zu 1.600 Musikinstrumente aus aller Welt beherbergt. Die Sammlung ist diesen Sommer im Bourtzi von Skiathos (Hafen) zu sehen.

Χoρός της Καμάρας | Kamara dance | Tanz το χαρακτηριστικότερο των παραδοσιακών τραγουδιών της Σκιάθου, τα οποία ανάγονται στα χρόνια του Μεσαίωνα, είναι η Καµάρα. Ο συνονόµατος χορός ήταν ο προσφιλέστερος, κυρίως για τις γυναίκες. Εκείνες τον χόρευαν µε την πιο επίσηµη φορεσιά τους και µε µεγάλη χάρη ύστερα από τη ∆εύτερη Ανάσταση και στη γιορτή του Αγίου Γεωργίου. The most characteristic of the folk songs of Skiathos, goes back to the Middle Ages and is the "Kamara". The same-named dance was the most popular and beloved dance among women. They danced it wearing their most formal dress and with much grace at the feasts of Skiathos. Das charakteristische Volkslied von Skiathos, stammt aus dem Mittelalter und heisst "Kamara". Der gleichnamige Tanz war sehr beliebt bei den Frauen. Dabei zogen sie ihre schönsten Gewänder an und führten den Tanz an großen Festen vor.

Skiathos has had a lively nightlife for many years but a recent additions are the 'pillows bars' - just lie back and relax. Wenn die Stimmung nach Mitternacht steigt, öffnen die Clubs auf der anderen Seite des Hafens ihre Pforten für die wilden Partygeher. Ein Highlight sind die hölzernen Decks über dem Wasser.

Skiathos ist schon lange eine Insel mit ausschweifendem Nachtleben. Dies wurde in den letzten Jahren stark mit dem Phänomen der „Kissen“ verbunden. Dabei handelt es sich um die mit Kissen ausgestatteten Treppen am alten Hafen. Hier können Sie den echten Insel-Stil erleben!
