We kick off by working with Filter to make Macbeth (P04); a co-production that we’ve been looking forward to for years. Following that, we’re delighted to introduce the wonderful company Told by an Idiot to Bristol with the stunning My Perfect Mind (P08). Opera Project make a welcome return with what is sure to be a superb Madame Butterfly (P12) and one of the great puppeteers, Neville Tranter, comes to us with Punch and Judy in Afghanistan (P19). We start the Brewery Theatre season with hysterically funny Bristol company Living Spit bringing us Elizabeth I: Virgin on the Ridiculous (P07) before a varied programme of exceptional small-scale work: I particularly look forward to Mmm Hmmm (P21), which was partly developed here at Tobacco Factory Theatres. Looking ahead to Christmas, we have assembled a wonderful team for 101 Dalmatians (P24), a show that has been in gestation here for over three years, and we’re thrilled that Pickled Image, one of our favourite puppet companies, will make a brand new show here – Santa’s Little Trolls (P27). Along with all of this we continue to make work that spreads out across the country (and, this season, across Europe). Thank you to all our audiences for making this possible and we hope to see you here this season.

MACBETH

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE FILTER THEATRE AND TOBACCO FACTORY THEATRES

Created by Filter Composer Tom Haines Performers Oliver Dimsdale, Geoffrey Lumb, Poppy Miller, Victoria Moseley, Alison Reid and Paul Woodson

A playful, kaleidoscopic and radical version of Macbeth, from the exceptional Filter Theatre, co-produced by and premiering at Tobacco Factory Theatres. Whence is that knocking? How is it with me, when every noise appals me? A demarcated area on stage. Three weird sisters operate a strange collection of electronic musical apparatus. Macbeth is invited in to play. Filter’s new version of Macbeth fuses Shakespeare’s corrosive, psychological thriller about ambition, power, witchcraft and sanity with innovative sound and music to take you on a strange, funny and scintillating journey to the epicentre of the “heat-oppressed brain”. Filter’s irreverent and contemporary recreations of the classics – Caucasian Chalk Circle, Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream – have gone down a storm in Bristol, the UK and across the world in the past few years. “For newcomers to Shakespeare, I can’t think of a better introduction...it’s a celebration: mad, wild, loving and hilarious” Sunday Times on Twelfth Night “Work that dazzles the eye, enchants the ear, and stimulates both the mind and heart” The Daily Telegraph on Filter Theatre Running time approx. 1hr 45mins Age recommendation 14+ PRODUCTION SPONSOR

STRAWBERRY AND CHOCOLATE EMERGING DIRECTOR PRIZE

This is the UK première of the Oscar-nominated Strawberry and Chocolate – a story of friendship, understanding and Cuba. Havana, 1979: David meets Diego. Lured to his apartment under false pretences, David discovers forbidden treasures, contraband books, music, American whiskey and very open criticism of the Castro regime. When Miguel, a fellow activist of the communist youth, convinces David to spy on Diego, temperatures rise as the two men debate about nationality, politics, art and sexuality. Diego and David find themselves redefining what it means to be the new Cuban man. Strawberry and Chocolate is directed by Bristol Old Vic Theatre School Graduate Nancy Medina, the successful director who was awarded our Emerging Director Prize for 2014. We’re proud to award this prize annually for an exceptional director from the school to direct a show in the Brewery Theatre, as one of the ways we incentivise theatrical talent to stay in Bristol.

ELIZABETH I:

VIRGIN ON THE RIDICULOUS LIVING SPIT

Written & performed by Stu Mcloughlin & Howard Coggins Directed by Craig Edwards

After the sell-out hit The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Living Spit are back... 1558. England. A country divided by religion and politics. The hopes of the nation lie with one woman. 2014. England. A country divided by those who enjoy plays featuring men in dresses and those who don’t. The hopes of the nation lie with two Bristolian actors. But Howard Coggins and Stuart Mcloughlin can no longer rely on apparent physical resemblances to Tudor monarchs. They’ve done Henry VIII, and the truth is neither of them look like anyone else. Things are bad. But they won’t be deterred. They’re just going to have to dig a little deeper. Act a little better. Live a little dangerous-er, as they attempt to tell the story of the greatest Monarch that ever lived – Elizabeth: The Virgin Queen. But will these two theatrical sons of Bristol be up to the challenge? Can Stu take the heat? And will Howard get jealous that he’s no longer playing the main part?

The production’s designer will be Max Johns, graduate of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, who worked previously with Nancy on Dutchman, during the Directors’ Cuts Season in May.

With more original live music, silly songs, smutty shenanigans, perfunctory props, and hysterically historical horseplay, this promises to be (another) poorly researched lesson in Tudor history that you’ll never forget.

MY PERFECT MIND TOLD BY AN IDIOT, YOUNG VIC AND THEATRE ROYAL PLYMOUTH

Created by Told by an Idiot Written by Kathryn Hunter, Paul Hunter and Edward Petherbridge Performed by Paul Hunter and Edward Petherbridge Directed by Kathryn Hunter Designed by Michael Vale Sound Design by Gregory Clarke Lighting Design by Alex Wardle

Moving, comic and utterly theatrical, Told by an Idiot are delighted to be bringing their smash-hit show to Bristol, as part of a nationwide tour. Acclaimed classical actor Edward Petherbridge was cast as King Lear – then a major stroke left him barely able to move. As he struggled to recover he made a discovery: the entire role of Lear still existed word for word in his mind. Directed by award-winning actor and director Kathryn Hunter and performed by Edward Petherbridge and Paul Hunter, this is a moving and comic exploration of the resilience of the human spirit through the prism of Shakespeare’s great tragedy. 2014 marks Told by an Idiot’s 21st anniversary as one of the UK’s leading and most inventive touring companies. Their previous productions include Get Happy with the Barbican, The Comedy of Errors with the RSC and their 2011 co-production with National Theatre Wales, The Dark Philosophers. “Wild and funny with a serious core”  The Times “A show unlike any other”  The Telegraph “An exquisite piece of tomfoolery”  The Guardian “Rampant fourth wall breaking”  Time Out “Playful, charming and funny”  Evening Standard Running time 1hr 30mins Age recommendation 12+

DYLAN THOMAS:

DRACULA

RETURN JOURNEY RICHARD JORDAN PRODUCTIONS LTD

Following sell out seasons in Bristol, London, New York and across the world, this final global tour is the last opportunity to see this exceptional portrayal, and marks the centenary of Dylan’s birth. Dylan Thomas was born in Wales in 1914 and died in New York in 1953 at the age of 39. Towards the end of his life he toured America performing his works before sell-out audiences across the country. Playing a man who wrestled with the psychological conflict between creative talent and self-destructive impulse, Bob Kingdom’s remarkable portrait of Dylan Thomas offers a chance to experience the electrifying presence of Dylan Thomas’ last great lecture tour en-route to the White Horse Tavern. Blending the stories and poetry with incisive comments on the nature of performing the American touring circuit, the audience is taken through Wales, past and present to the one that lies after. Under Anthony Hopkins’ minimalist direction, Dylan Thomas: Return Journey brings both performer and audience together in appreciation of the beauty, the humour, the passion and wit of the words of this writer. This critically acclaimed portrayal embraced the myth of the tortured artist, with a life distinguished by exuberantly successful highs and pathetically undignified lows. “I could have listened to his spell-binding, word wizardry for hours” The Times “Kingdom is rightly regarded as a master of this one-hander genre and the 70 minutes flies by as he draws his audience in and leaves us spellbound. Bravo!” Daily Mirror Running time 1hr 40mins (inc. interval) Age recommendation 12+ BOB HAVARD, Tobacco Factory Theatres

MARK BRUCE COMPANY IN ASSOCIATION WITH TOBACCO FACTORY THEATRES, PAVILION DANCE SOUTH WEST AND WILTON’S MUSIC HALL

We’re absolutely thrilled to retour our 2013 Sky Arts Award-winning co-production with the Mark Bruce Company this autumn to venues across the country, including bringing it back to Bristol for performances at Bristol Old Vic. Welcome to my house. Come freely. Go safely; and leave something of the happiness you bring. Jonathan Goddard plays the infamous Vampire Count, whose sinister and ruthless ambitions challenge the very fabric of Victorian society. As his victims and opponents rally against him, they must face the darkness and savagery within themselves. Bruce’s company of ten exceptional dancers bring Bram Stoker’s haunting, erotic tale to life in a heart wrenching and magical dance theatre production. With an eclectic mix of music from Bach and Mozart to Ligeti and Fred Frith, Bruce explores choreographic styles ranging from the subtlety of classical etiquette to visceral contemporary dance. Dracula was an overwhelming success when it premiered here last autumn, going on to sell out runs in London, Exeter, Bournemouth, Oxford and Frome; receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences and in early 2014, winning the prestigious South Bank Sky Arts Award for Dance. “I’d be surprised if I saw a more entertaining piece of dance theatre this year. Kill for a ticket.”  The Observer “Mark Bruce’s adaptation of Dracula is an exemplary piece of dance theatre: imaginatively staged and briskly told.”  The Sunday Telegraph Running time 2hrs (inc. interval) Age recommendation 14+ LAUREN SCHOLEY, Tobacco Factory Theatres

PUCCINI

OPERA PROJECT AND TOBACCO FACTORY THEATRES

Puccini’s hauntingly beautiful Madame Butterfly captures the imagination and enters the soul like no other opera. Cio-Cio-San, a young geisha girl, has fallen for Pinkerton, a suave American naval officer. Giving up all she has, she marries him, only for Pinkerton to then abandon her. Left alone for three years bringing up their son, she patiently waits. But when her husband finally returns, her hopes for their future together are cruelly dashed. One of the most popular and best-loved operas in the repertoire. In Madame Butterfly Puccini took a seemingly simple story and, with his unique lyricism, expressive richness and taut sense of drama, created an undisputed masterpiece that punches an emotional impact of extraordinary power rarely experienced in the theatre. Sung here in English, with a new orchestration for 13 players and with the brilliant young British soprano Katie Bird in the title role, we’re delighted to be co-producing the first Madame Butterfly in our Factory Theatre with one of the UK’s leading touring opera companies. Opera Project’s productions here over the last 12 years have kept getting better – we know this Butterfly won’t disappoint. Immerse yourself in Puccini’s glorious music, up close and personal, from our new comfortable, reserved seating. Anti-government protestors have taken to the streets and the last stretch of unspoilt coastline is under threat. Caught up in these volatile circumstances, what’s left of two splintering families face decisions with long-lasting repercussions. Paul, meanwhile, is flying in from Gatwick to meet the Bulgarian Facebook friend who might just be the love of his life. Coastal Defences takes us from a politically charged Sofia to the natural beauty of the Black Sea, exploring a country we hear so much about, but know so little of. This production is part of Theatre West’s One Day season, the company’s first project since its recent move from the Alma Tavern, which is happening in venues across the city. It will be preceded by a 10-minute short. “All the rapid-fire unpredictability of a bullet ricocheting off the walls” Venue on 100 Miles North of Timbuktu Running time 1hr 15mins Age recommendation 14+

Ballroom dancing is not the only humiliation heaped on Saikat by his ambitious parents. There’s catechism and Latin too. And no-one gets his name right, ever. Meet werewolves in the playground, nuns in the corridors and tangerines in the dancehall! The play takes a humorous look at what it means to be British from someone who had to learn the hard way. AN ELEPHANT IN THE GARDEN

MICHAEL MORPURGO POONAMALLEE PRODUCTIONS AND EXETER NORTHCOTT THEATRE

Adapted and directed by Simon Reade Performed by Alison Reid

An Elephant in the Garden is Simon Reade’s new adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s best-selling children’s novel. 1945. Dresden, Germany. Lizzie, her mother – and an elephant from the zoo, flee the Allied fire-bombing in the end-game of the Second World War. Escaping the Allies’ advance from the West – and also the advancing Russian armies from the East – this extraordinary trio of refugees meet: a downed RAF officer, cowering in a barn; a homeless school choir on the run and their Countess saviour, harbouring them from the Nazis; and the mechanised American cavalry, appearing over the horizon. It is Lizzie’s story – but Marlene, the elephant, is the heroine. Plodding, obdurate, opportunistic, loadbearing, indestructible, cheering – Marlene embodies the stubbornness of the human will and how it will do everything to survive. Previous Reade / Morpurgo collaborations include Toro! Toro!, The Mozart Question and Private Peaceful. Alison Reid has worked at the RSC, Bristol Old Vic and National Theatre and performs in The Mozart Question. “Morpurgo’s poignant and thoughtful exploration of the terrible impact of war on both sides of the fighting.” Booklist on the novel “A masterly adaptation by Simon Reade...” The Daily Mail on Private Peaceful Running time approx. 1hr 15mins Age recommendation 8+ ALI ROBERTSON, Tobacco Factory Theatres

PUNCH AND JUDY IN AFGHANISTAN PUPPET PLACE PRESENTS STUFFED PUPPET

By turns humorous and unsettling, Stuffed Puppet Theatre use the wit, absurdity and directness of traditional puppet theatre, to discover what happens when naiveté and cynicism meet. Punch & Judy in Afghanistan tells the story of Nigel, a puppeteer, who has come to Afghanistan to entertain the troops. His assistant, Emile, goes missing and Nigel finds himself in extreme danger as he tries to find out what has happened. His search brings him to Tora Bora, where he meets Punch Bin Laden, a heartless television reporter, a nervous UN soldier and a camel keeper. Punch Bin Laden and his bloodthirsty wife, Judy, amuse themselves playing cat and mouse with Nigel. But Nigel must escape to tell the Americans where to find Bin Laden! When we started talking to Puppet Place about bringing an international puppetry show to Tobacco Factory Theatres outside of the Bristol Festival of Puppetry, Neville Tranter of Stuffed Puppet was at the top of their wishlist. He brought his extraordinary show Schicklgruber Alias Adolf Hitler to the 2011 Festival and is a master at using the humour and charm of puppetry to create ruthless theatre that explores profound themes and evokes images that linger with audiences. If you think you know Punch and Judy, think again! “Often funny, but more often frightening. Everyone in this piece is to blame. The message is clear: worlds clash because they cannot communicate with each other. Their backgrounds are too different.” Mainzer Rhein-Zeitung Running time 1hr Age recommendation 14+

CHRIS PIRIE, Green Ginger

Neville Tranter has been hailed as a giant of the puppetry world, and rightly so; he has mastered the craft as both actor and puppeteer and creates powerful, engaging theatre.

MMM HMMM VERITY STANDEN IN ASSOCIATION WITH TOBACCO FACTORY THEATRES

Composed and directed by Verity Standen In collaboration with performers Ellie Showering and Dominie Hooper Choreography by Dan Canham Additional creative input from Emma Williams and Ira Brand Produced by Tom Spencer

Mmm Hmmm is a playful, poignant musical journey shaped by three exceptional female voices jumping between sound worlds and lyrical styles. Using intricate vocal techniques and rich harmony, three voices blend seamlessly into one as Mmm Hmmm holds a magnifying glass up to snapshots of everyday life. One moment a fragile apology, the next a perilous trip to the First Great Western buffet car; Verity Standen’s original a cappella songs evoke the awkward, heart-breaking and hilarious moments that characterise what it means to be human. Verity Standen’s compositions for Living Structures, Bristol Old Vic and Tobacco Factory Theatres (amongst others) have been widely enjoyed in the UK and Europe. Now she brings her own original work to the Brewery Theatre after a high-profile run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, alongside her immersive choral piece Hug, which surprised and enchanted Bristol audiences during its sell-out run at the Wardrobe Theatre in 2013. Mmm Hmmm undertook original development as part of Prototype (P34) so we’re delighted to have it back. “…Shook me to my core. I’ve never seen anything like it.” A Younger Theatre “lusciously arranged a capella music” Time Out on Living Structures’ Cart Macabre “performance that does more than it says on the tin” Lyn Gardner on Hug Running time approx. 1hr Age recommendation For all ages ANNA GIRVAN, Juncture Theatre

Verity’s seminal production is beautifully honest, humorous and human. I defy anyone not to be moved by this show.

DALTON TRUMBO METAL RABBIT

Adapted for the stage by Bradley Rand Smith

A stunning, intense testament to the power of the human spirit in the most terrible of circumstances. Nothing is bigger than life. Nothing. When the call came, idealistic Joe Bonham eagerly volunteered for the trenches of World War One. But as he wakes in a strange world and attempts to piece together the fragments of his past, he realises he has paid a price he never expected. Metal Rabbit brings the UK première of Dalton Trumbo’s award-winning novel to stage in the form of Bradley Rand Smith’s Obie-winning adaptation, starring Jack Holden (War Horse, Minotaur) and directed by Evening Standard Outstanding Newcomer Nominee and Fringe First winner David Mercatali (Dark Vanilla Jungle, Tender Napalm). Jack Holden gives a stunning performance about one young man’s fight for life, the extraordinary strength of the human spirit, and the sacrifices the military asks of those who serve it. Nominated for four Off West End Nominations, Johnny Got His Gun has astounded audiences and critics alike. “Jack Holden gives a stunning tour de force”  The Independent “An entirely gripping account”  What’s On Stage “I was uplifted and grateful for the experience”  Everything Theatre Running time 1hr 15mins Age recommendation 12+ RAY PRICE, Bristol Old Vic Theatre Club

Jack Holden commands the stage alone and for some seventy brilliant minutes gives a visceral, spell-binding performance, full of fury and poignancy. Prepare to be awed. Really.

101 DALMATIANS TOBACCO FACTORY THEATRES AND TRAVELLING LIGHT

Some dogs look like their owners, or is it that some owners look like their dogs? And who really owns who – do dogs secretly think that we’re their pets? Mr and Mrs Dearly love dogs, especially their two dalmatians, Pongo and Perdita. Cruella De Vil loves fur and doesn’t have much time for anything living. When Pongo and Perdita’s fifteen new-born dalmatian puppies go missing it doesn’t take a genius to work out who has kidnapped them – and now the clock is ticking before they’re gone forever. Based on Dodie Smith’s much loved book The Hundred and One Dalmatians, this is the latest collaboration between Tobacco Factory Theatres and Travelling Light especially for Bristol audiences at Christmas. 101 Dalmatians will be warm-hearted and playful, told with creative storytelling, original live music and a lot of laughs. Join the inventive and nationally renowned director Sally Cookson and the team that brought you the Olivier Award-nominated and Off West End Award-winner Cinderella: A Fairytale, plus Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and The Ugly Duckling, as they take you on a canine caper to find the missing dalmatians and deal with the dastardly De Vil once and for all! “A funny, heart-warming and beautiful piece of stage craft, this Cinderella is a treat” The Independent on Cinderella: A Fairytale “A terrific family night out that will have everyone leaving the theatre with a spring in their step” The Guardian on Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves Age recommendation 6+ Running time approx. 2hrs (inc. interval)

MRS GERRISH’S GROTTO THE MINISTRY OF ENTERTAINMENT

PICKLED IMAGE

Directed by John Nicholson Performed by Dik Downey & Vicky Andrews Written by Adam Fuller Puppets by Pickled Image

A magical extravaganza from Pickled Image, especially for the festive season. Jeremy really, really loves Christmas. All he wants is for each Christmas to be perfect; mince pies, stockings, mistletoe and especially, (and this is the icing on the Christmas cake)…lots and lots of SNOW! But, who exactly brings the snow? Santa? Rudolph? Jack Frost? No, it’s the one job left in the heavy hands of the Trolls of Winter. However, the trolls are fed up with never getting any of the credit. It’s always those cheery, little elves and that red nosed reindeer celebrated at Christmas, while the hard working trolls miss out.

Written by Kate McNab Performed by Kate McNab and Ross Harvey

By popular demand, Mrs Gerrish is back to spend Christmas with us! The waspish 50’s seaside landlady may have bitten off more than she can chew this time though. Jumping on the fashionable bandwagon of The Package Holiday, Brenda optimistically opens for an action-packed Christmas programme. Maybe the slapdash Barry can keep up but will he be eaten alive by the ferocious Mrs Gerrish Snr? Perhaps Mrs Gimlet could peel a few sprouts... At 4pm on Christmas Eve The Lord Mayor will be switching on The Weston Illuminations which will certainly set the season of goodwill off with a bang. What could possibly go wrong?

Not once have they been on an advent calendar or featured in a carol, so this year, unless they get their ugly mugs on at least one Christmas card, there will be NO SNOW!

The Ministry of Entertainment have done it again, delightfully mixing theatre, comedy and songs to bring you another fantastic Christmas cracker of a show.

With silliness, laughter, stunning puppets (and maybe a humbug or two), Pickled Image (Fireside Tales with Grandad and Wolf Tales) present a magical Christmas extravaganza – Santa’s Little Helpers Trolls!

“The Ministry of Entertainment has proven it can consistently deliver the goods... It’s a laugh a minute, promise.” Bristol 24-7

Now charming, he will recollect simple tales of love, gaze dead-eyed at the ladies, recite verse and do basic talking. A lot of fairly grubby water’s sloshed under Key’s bridge of late so he’ll be churning that up. He’s also fairly interested to lift the lid on Hollywood. One man. One small keyboard. As seen on Never Mind The Buzzcocks and 8 Out Of 10 Cats, and winner of the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2008, David O’Doherty’s humour fits into the slightly nerdish, misfit worldview increasingly adopted by a certain breed of comic; delicate, sweet and thought-provoking rather than aggressive and in-your-face. TOBACCO FACTORY THEATRES NEWS As well as what appears in this brochure, we also work across the city and country in ways that we don’t always shout about. So, we wanted to take this opportunity to tell you a bit more about some other things we’re doing.

MAKING WORK ELSEWHERE MIMIC We co-produced Ray Scannell’s Mimic on a tour of Ireland in 2008 and at the very start of August, we brought this incredible piece to Bristol, to be performed as part of the Bristol Proms at Bristol Old Vic in August.

DRACULA We’re delighted to be retouring our award-winning co-production with the Mark Bruce Company – Dracula – to sixteen venues across the country this autumn. This includes a run at the Bristol Old Vic (P11): part of our undertaking to produce or present one show per season outside of our two venues.

HANSEL AND GRETEL

OUTPOST Green Ginger is a Bristol-based theatre company who make internationally recognised puppet theatre. We are co-producing a new work, Outpost, with them and Nordland Visual Theatre. The work will be created in Bristol and Norway this Autumn; to première in Stamsund in November. The work will tour the UK, including Tobacco Factory Theatres, in 2015.

ARTIST DEVELOPMENT

In the spring we announced that we’d invited two brilliant companies to develop new shows with us as Associate Artists. We also launched an open call for three more Associates to work with us and our partners (Theatre Bristol, MAYK and New Diorama Theatre). Take a look at P35 to find out who we’ll be working with and what they’ll working on.

CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

We have recently employed a new Children and Young People Director to expand the work we do in this area and we look forward to creating a programme that is dynamic, accessible, inclusive and high quality. We will start rolling out a programme of activities from 2015 whereby young people will have the opportunity to engage in cultural activities relevant to their needs and interests.

GIVING BACK

Every season we aim to give one night in one of our theatres free of charge to a local charity for fundraising or other purposes. This season, the local branch of Freedom from Torture will host a fundraiser performance in the Factory Theatre (P33). We also donated over 400 complimentary tickets to events last year to community groups and charities, a value of £5,000.

Our 2012 co-production with New International Encounter, Hansel and Gretel, toured the UK in 2013 and it will play in Norway this Christmas. In the translation, the unforgettable stepmother character, who screamed angrily in Norwegian throughout the play, will scream only in English!

Filter Theatre has spent time with us developing ideas for its brand new version of Macbeth, which sees the company continuing to pursue innovations in composition and sound design to enhance its celebrated anarchic and exhilarating storytelling. Macbeth (P04) will première in the Factory Theatre this September, in a co-production with Tobacco Factory Theatres.

Joêl Daniel is a dancer and choreographer whose practice pushes the boundaries of b-boying (breakdance). Perhaps best known as co-founder/director of the groundbreaking Bristol-based Champloo Dance Company, Joêl is now developing his own work, exploring how our minds deal with difficult memories to create a piece of dance theatre that blurs the boundaries between reality, imagination and the subconscious.

Jennifer Bell Company is led by composer and director Jennifer Bell, whose previous work includes the beautiful a cappella song cycle In a Town, presented at Bristol Old Vic last year as part of the Bristol Proms, and Temple Songs, a concert sung in Bristol offices. Jenny is working with us to develop a site-specific song cycle that explores the nature of political discourse and democratic representation, through fragments of personal stories.

The Paper Cinema makes shows out of the real-time manipulation of intricate pen and ink illustrations in front of a live-feed video camera, projected onto a big screen and accompanied by integrated live music. Their version of Homer’s Odyssey has been touring the world since 2013. Their new project, The Keys of Tobias Brown, is an original story about a young woman’s search for her lost twin sister, set against a background of Edwardian mysticism.

HOW TO BOOK

Opening Hours 10am – 6.30pm Monday to Saturday (exc. Public holidays) On days when performances are scheduled, the Box Office will be open until the start of the performance. If there is a show scheduled on a Sunday or during public holidays, the Box Office will be open for 2 hours prior to the performance. At certain times of the year e.g. summer or Christmas, our opening hours may vary. Please check the times on the website before you make a special trip. We can post out orders of up to 10 tickets, up to 5 days before the performance (excludes unreserved performances and tickets which require proof of ID). There is an admin fee of £1 per transaction. If you require posting of 10+ tickets, please contact Box Office.

PAYMENT

We accept all major credit and debit cards except American Express. We no longer have booking fees! No booking fee applies whether tickets are purchased in person, over the phone or online. We cannot offer refunds, but tickets can be exchanged up to 48 hours before the show, for another performance of the same production (subject to availability). An administration charge of £1 applies.

SEATING

We have now moved from unreserved to reserved seating for many productions in the Factory Theatre, but some productions will remain unreserved, including most productions in the Brewery Theatre. Shows with reserved seating will be listed as such on the show pages in this brochure. Seating plans differ for each production and can be found when booking online or at the Box Office.

GROUPS/SCHOOLS

For certain performances, for every ten tickets bought by a school or group, the eleventh is free. Other group and school discounts may apply. Please ask the Box Office for further details.

ACCESS

Where possible we aim to BSL interpret certain productions in each season. Where they are available, BSL interpreted and Relaxed performances will be listed on show pages, this calendar opposite and on the Access page of the website. We also know it’s hard to get to the theatre when you have a little one under the age of one, so there will be a baby friendly performance of one of the shows this season (P07). It’s the same as any other performance but the lights will be on and no one will mind if your baby cries, or if you want to feed them or walk around during the show. Both our theatres have tiered seating with only a certain number of seats on floor level. If you have any specific access requirements please contact the Box Office and we will be happy to discuss your visit in more detail.

CONCESSIONS

Concessions may be available for children (16 and under), over 60s, registered disabled, equity members, students and benefit claimants. Concessions are available at the discretion of the producing company, so may not be available for all productions. When collecting concessionary tickets, proof of concession must be provided.
