When I ďŹ rst started writing these monthly introductions to the magazines my children weren’t even all at school, now one has ďŹ nished and making preparations to y the nest later this year. The 2nd is just a year behind him and has started her search for her future college or university. The youngest has a few years at home yet and in preparation for her being the last one left at home has just talked us into adding a dog to the household! While they don’t need me around as much as they did when they were younger I will still be taking the opportunity to close the oďŹƒce and have a little holiday with them all while they are all willing to holiday with Mum and Dad! Whatever you are doing this summer I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy a little bit of relaxation time and make some memories with your loved ones. The September issues will be delivered to you late August. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Friday 12th August. ALL SAINT’S CHURCH, HARWORTH – serving Harworth & Bircotes, Styrrup and Hesley Dear readers, Hello from the Church Wardens. We are now two months into the interregnum, (without a YLFDU VR \RX PD\ DVN ČŠVR WKLQJV ZLOO EH GLÎ? HUHQW – or will they? Or should they?â€? I’m happy to say we are continuing to work together and keeping our church running smoothly. It is the second time your Church Wardens have worked during an interregnum. We have a great Parochial Church Council, and Mother Leah before she left gave us her time and knowledge to go through all the necessary paperwork. So it is business as usual at All Saints. At the time of writing I have no information regarding when or who, or how long before we have a new vicar for our parish but will keep you informed through the magazine of any news. To reassure you, all our services will be covered by visiting clergy, this will include baptisms, weddings, funerals, memorials etc. If you have any queries regarding church matters please contact the Church Wardens: Les Batty (074544 530117) or Ann Wilson (07917 875195) we will be pleased to help you. On Sunday 3rd July Revd Irene Tissington RÉ? FLDWHG DW D PHPRULDO VHUYLFH LQ FKXUFK Invitations had been sent to those whose family funerals had taken place in church over the last four months up to May. It was a lovely short service with hymns and readings and included an opportunity to light candles in memory of loved ones. Refreshments were served afterwards. Our next memorial service will be a Tree of Light service to be held on 4th December 2016. On Saturday we held our third annual Vintage Car Event at the Church of England Academy School. A total of ÂŁ758 was raised. Many thanks to those who supported us and to everyone that helped and donated to the event. The money raised will be split between STARS (a charity helping people with Syncope, blackouts UHČľ H[ DQR[LF VHL]XUHV WKH FKXUFK DQG D 4

donation made to the school. Peregrine Falcons – In May the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust installed a nesting box on top of our church tower. The peregrines had been nesting on the pit tower and it was hoped following the pit tower demolition that peregrine falcons may favour nesting on our tower. Notts Wildlife Trust visited in June to check if any evidence of peregrines. Sadly the only thing they found was probably from a rook! They said though that peregrines could nest from February onwards, they had received reports that peregrines had EHHQ VHHQ Ⱦ \LQJ DURXQG 6R ZH ZLOO ZDLW DQG see. All Saints Church Hall – our church hall is available for hire, ideal for children’s parties etc. Cost is £12.50 per hour with a minimum of two hour booking. August is the month where everything shuts down cos you’re all away sunning yourselves by the seaside. But there is still stuff going on…. Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery y Wed to Fri 10.00 – 16.30, Sat & Sun 10.30 – 4.15 Exhibition: until 11th September Doncaster Art Club. Always one of the most popular exhibitions in the annual programme including paintings and drawings in a variety of media by this thriving local club. Until 17th September. Chris Moss: ‘Wild Wire’ Chris Moss makes sculptures of beasts and birds in order to understand them better, both their physiognomy and behaviour. Her sculptures are made from new and reclaimed materials, sourced from every-day suppliers of functional wire and metal products. She describes her work as drawing in 3 dimensions, using the material’s natural tension as a line to describe form and movement. Each work is an original study of anatomy and behaviour, giving a sense of life and energy to the subject. Curated by local potter Penny Withers, Shaped from the Earth celebrates the diversity of handmade ceramics produced in the city. Oldcotes Village Hall Birthday Celebrations! About 80 Oldcotes residents enjoyed our Garden Party on the 11th June, to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. Fun was had with games, including Hoopla, Coconut Shy and Splat the Rat (sadly the Rat was splatted one time too many and we need a replacement for future events!) Music was provided by local group, Dukes. Afternoon tea was served with cakes and sandwiches. Hot Dogs and Burgers were also available. Thanks must go to the Church, the Village Hall, Parish Council and many other individuals and Groups for making this such a wonderful occasion. We could not have achieved so much without everyone’s help! To end the celebrations a toast was made to the Queen and the National Anthem was sung. FEELING GUILTY

Dear Friends, This is my last month for my stations at Auckley and Rossington. I am handing over pastoral oversight of the Methodist Churches in these two communities to my colleague, Mrs. Susanna Brookes. If you live in either of these communities then kindly contact her for any pastoral issues from 1st September 2016. However, for the other communities in Adwick, Bawtry, Harworth, Sprotbrough, and Tickhill, I am still with you for a few more years. Leaving a post as a Methodist Minister in a community always brings about a few tears. Yes, it is always sad to leave behind the wonderful bonds we create as we relate with people of GLÎ? HUHQW EDFNJURXQGV +RZHYHU VRPHWLPHV ZH also shed tears about some of our failures and regrets. Talking of failures and regrets brings us to mind the idea of guilt-feelings. I have met a few people in my Ministry who are always living with guilt. Some have even gone to the extent of being depressed about their guilt. In some cases, it may not be their faults but they still hang on to the guilt. They may be thinking, ‘if it had not been me, that would not have happened’. A few days before writing this piece, I was preparing my Sunday sermon on a Bible passage and I was reminded how important it is to deal with guilt. The Apostle Paul, writing to the believers in Rome, stated that: “There is no condemnation now for those who 18 HARWORTH TODAY

live in union with Christ Jesus.â€? (Romans 8: 1) The bible reminds us that all of us have sinned and hence, are under the judgement of God. This results in condemnation. However, Romans 8 reminds us that if we are in union with Christ Jesus, then there is no condemnation for us. To be in union with Jesus is to believe that Jesus is the Son of God, repent from your sins, and ask the Holy Spirit to come and live in you. Such confession brings forgiveness and wipes away any guilt. This kindness of God also makes you his child. 1 John 3: 1 says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!â€? Becoming a child of God gives you the boldness to approach God frequently and to talk to him in prayer. Since the presence of God through his Spirit is in you, you are connected to God himself – not only for a passing moment but eternally and intimately. It is therefore important to continue to connect with God by reading his word frequently and praying to him daily. These activities are some of the ways that will help you overcome any guilt feelings. %\ WKH ZD\ LI Ζ KDYH RÎ? HQGHG DQ\RQH LQ P\ conduct as a Minister, please do forgive me. I want to get rid of any guilt feelings that are in my way now. I wonder if you can do the same now. This month, as you continue to bask in the glorious warm weather, remember that God has sent his Son Jesus to help you overcome any feelings of guilt you have due to your past mistakes. It will be therefore be helpful if you connect with God through this Jesus. Have a blessed month.

After The latest CQC Inspection The Tickhill and Colliery Medical Practice has been rated as GOOD. To add to this good news The Practice has also appointed a GP to replace the gap left by the retirement of Dr Saunders last November. Dr Eapen starts on August 3rd 2016 and on behalf of all patients we welcome her and hope she will be very happy working with The Practice.

In line with comments received re the lack of prebookable appointments changes have been made to the system to allow for more pre- bookable appointments. This was done to try and assist patients and avoid the feeling of some patients that they need to queue for an appointment. The best time to phone re a pre-bookable appointment is after 2pm.

Wednesday afternoon closures for Compulsory Training. The surgeries will be closed for compulsory training on the following Wednesdays:September 14th & 28th, October 12th, November 9th. Please note that the Out Of Hours Medical Service operates during all times when the surgery is closed such that medical advice is always available.

However a breakdown of the Appointments booked but NOT attended for June shows the following:116 appointments booked but NOT attended which equates to 23 hours of appointment time lost. Of the 116 appointments not attended, 36 were booked on the day as ‘needing to be seen’ 1 was a late night slot , 4 were booked on line and the vast majority of 75 were pre booked. There is a huge demand for appointments for both doctors and nurses and yet in one month a total of 46 GP appointments were wasted by patients who booked and failed to cancel, along with 70 Nurse appointments. The Patients Group sends our very best wishes to one of our registrars, Dr Majid, who is leaving The Practice at the beginning of August to move to his next rotation. We thank him on behalf of all the patients, hope that he has enjoyed his time at The Tickhill and Colliery Medical Practice and wish him every success for the future.

Community Interestingly we got more positive comments than we did concerns and as most patients imagine several of the concerns were about the same issue i.e. difficulties getting a appointment. However we did get two posi comments re. appointments stating that things were improving and it was easier to get an appointment. The positive comments also included several about the level of care and communication from GPs and Nurses at The Practice. Waiting indoors to book an appointment. We would like to reiterate the fact that the premises at Harworth are open from 07.30 and ALL patients wanting to sit indoors, whilst waiting to book an appointment at EITHER premises, are welcome to do so. The Practice opens at 08.30 at both premises and appointments can be booked when The Practice opens. Saturday Mornings The practice phones are set to go through to the out of hours service on a Saturday morning to allow ALL patients to access a GP. There are PRE BOOKED appointments and patients with a pre booked appointment on a Saturday should attend their appointment as booked or if unable to attend should phone on a weekday afternoon to rebook or explain.

Why is one building open and not the other? The Harworth Health Centre was built using EU regeneration money when the colliery closed and houses multiple GP practices who do NOT own the building, maintain it or lock and unlock it. It is open from 07.30 to 18.00hrs. The Tickhill Medical Practice building in Tickhill is owned by the Tickhill and Colliery Medical Practice and has been adapted over the years having ramp access and downstairs consultation rooms, it opens at 8.30am as does the reception at Harworth and closes at 18.00hrs. Collection of prescriptions All patients can with the approval of their GP avoid having to collect a prescription by nominating a chemist to whom your prescription can be sent directly. Many chemists also offer a delivery service free of charge. %DZWU\ Squadron Air Cadets Last week we said farewell to one of our Cadets. Corporal Dominic Storey who is about to start his Air Force Career. Dominic had started his Cadet career with us in in October 2011, and had done very well to reach the rank of corporal. Corporal Storey had experienced the many WKLQJV WKH $LU &DGHWV FDQ RÎ? HU Čľ \LQJ VKRRWLQJ FDPSV DGYHQWXUH WUDLQLQJ DQG YLUWXDO Čľ \LQJ LQ our simulators. In order to get promotion he had to show his leadership and knowledge skills ZKLFK ZDV HYLGHQW LQ KLP JDLQLQJ TXDOLČ´ FDWLRQV LQ )LUVW DLG 5LČľ H VKRRWLQJ DQG KLV EURQ]H DQG silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. He also took part in the short exams we require cadets to do on avionics, history of the Air Force and the Air Cadets as well as jet power, radio communication and many more. Corporal Storey would also attend on weekends when we opened the squadron for projects, as he loved modelling, this involved recreating iconic air craft to display in the squadron. Dominic is now ready to enter a hugely exciting part of his life as he begins his career in the RAF, he told us “ I go on the 12th July to RAF Halton for basic training and after that I’m going to RAF Cosford to train as an aircraft maintenance mechanic.â€? Asked whether he was scared, nervous or excited he answered “ I don’t know really, a bit of everything “.

A Male from the Harworth & Bircotes area has been charged and remanded in custody for a Robbery, Burglary and breach of court bail conditions which all occurred in Harworth in March 2016. The male had been targeting elderly vulnerable victims where he had been stealing money and being intimidating towards his victims where they were pressured into giving him money. The male has been remanded until September 2016 where a trial has been set for the Robbery and Burglary. The male has also been charged with several breaches of an Anti Social Behaviour Injunction where he will be due in county court in relation to the breaches after the trial for the Burglary/ Robbery has taken place.
