The 2nd is just a year behind him and has started her search for her future college or university. The youngest has a few years at home yet and in preparation for her being the last one left at home has just talked us into adding a dog to the household! While they don’t need me around as much as they did when they were younger I will still be taking the opportunity to close the office and have a little holiday with them all while they are all willing to holiday with Mum and Dad!

Unique charity concert A top tribute act are teaming up with the bereavement charity Rainbows to help them celebrate 25 years of service, by bringing the world’s most authentic tribute to the music of Simon and Garfunkel to Doncaster. Dan Haynes and Pete Richards, like Simon and Garfunkel, met in school and began singing together at just 16 years old. The pair touring as Bookends (their name is taken from their favourite Simon & Garfunkel album) are now wowing audiences around the world with their concert experience. The duo have kindly given up a night of their busy tour dates to perform their concert to help celebrate 25 years of Rainbows, a charity which provides support and understanding for children and young people experiencing lossand grief. 6

The QHZ < FKLOGUHQ DW 3KHDVDQW %DQN DOZD\V Č´ Q QGV it a big shock when they see me walking through h to go to Holmescarr and shout out ‌ “Hey Pastor Simpson! Why are you here?!â€? I reckon they think the only place I appear is at GLIA or Torndale.

Parents, well done for the job you have done to get them where they are. All of that requires a tremendous amount of work from everyone involved. 7KHUH DUH QRUPDOO\ ORWV RI HPRWLRQ IHDU HWF Čľ \LQJ around from parents, teachers & students alike. But now that we are here, something came up in my mind that I am personally dealing with. And as this article normally goes, I reckon if I am having to deal with something, there is a fair chance others are as well.

In my work as pastor, I read long ago there were a few big ticket items when it comes to pressure and stress on a person or family. They tend to EH Č? Č´ QDQFH SUREOHPV KRXVH PRYH DQG GLYRUFH and death of a family member. That is certainly understandable. Those are big items and they cause people to “explodeâ€? explode at times. Maybe it is that others tend to be sensitive that you are going through one of the big things and are more supportive, etc.

There was a video that made the rounds some time ago. When I read the description, I thought “impossible, no way!� The video showed a couple of men with safety goggles, a watermelon and a big pile of elastic bands. The men proceeded to put the elastic bands around the body of the watermelon, one at a time. It was the oddest looking thing. As the elastic bands started stacking up around the watermelon, it created to the slightest bow in the middle.

+RZHYHU Ζ Č´ QG IDU PRUH SHRSOH VWUXJJOH QRW VR PXFK with these big things as with the small things in life that cause pressure. Pressure and stress in these smaller areas (or what may SEEM like small areas to RWKHUV FDQ KDYH WKHLU DGGHG HÎ? HFW DQG VHQG XV RYHU WKH HGJH 0D\EH LW LV D GLÉ? FXOW SHUVRQ DW ZRUN D neighbour that plays music too loud, appliances that break down, weather that should be sunny according to the calendar, nagging allergies, a dog that needs walking and you are just so tired, etc. The list goes on.

As the elastic bands kept coming, the bow in the middle continued to ‌ well ‌ bow. The stress and pressure around that water melon started building up. Then the most amazing thing happened. After what seemed like 1 million elastic bands, there was one band Messy Church (3:30-5:30)

Update from Councillor

Rachael Blake It has been really good to work with community groups over th he last few weeks, along with the e support of the Parish Council and funding from Recycoal to put together a programme of summer activities for children and young people as well as Rossington’s Got Talent for all ages - more details below. Grass Cutting. I went out with the Street Scene team from DMBC at the end of June to look at the many areas where I have received complaints. Dave, Chair of the TARA also came along when we looked at problems on the Radburn Estate. The overgrown areas at the back of Boswell are not the responsibility of DMBC until the area is handed over by the contractors so I have asked St Leger to ensure the area is maintained. With Dave we also looked at a number of areas where weeds need spraying and overgrown areas cutting back. Following complaints from residents about the litter not being picked up before the grass is cut, the DMBC street scene team assured us that this wouldn’t happen again and the area had to be cleared before cutting. Bankwood Lane – I have been asking DMBC for a number of months for an update to share with residents which I haven’t received up to now. I will include it in my next update but enforcement action has been taken against a number of businesses on the estate for not complying with the operating times, Many of the issues are down to the Environment Agency so it is really important that you report any issues with flies and smells to them. Buses and takeaways - Thank you to everyone who contacted me about takeaways and the buses. Rossington Parish Council are in the process of putting together their Neighbourhood Plan and they would like as many people as possible to give their views. The Neighbourhood Plan can include lots of things that residents want to see for the village. If you haven’t completed a questionnaire please visit the Parish Council website.

Spotlight the rabbits and guinea pigs come out for a cuddle!

Boston Park Farm... Tearooms and Maize Maze is a fantastic place to take toddlers and young children to play in the indoor and outdoor play areas whilst you enjoy a relaxing pot of tea in the lovely tearooms. The Maize Maze is now open and it consists of 5km of paths which, being only 5 feet wide, give the feeling of exploring through the jungle. Open from 10am until 5pm every day with last entry to the maze at 4pm and entry prices are £6 each and £20 for a family ticket (any 4 people), children under 2yrs are free. There are also all the animals to see and feed, including alpacas, goats, donkeys, sheep, chickens and pigs. New chicks are also hatching out all the time and each day at 11:30 and 2:30

FEELING GUILTY

Dear Friends, This is my last month for my stations at Auckley and Rossington. I am handing over pastoral oversight of the Methodist Churches in these two communities to my colleague, Mrs. Susanna Brookes. However, for the other communities in Adwick, Bawtry, Harworth, Sprotbrough, and Tickhill, I am still with you for a few more years. Leaving a post as a Methodist Minister in a community always brings about a few tears. Yes, it is always sad to leave behind the wonderful bonds we create as we relate with people of GLÎ? HUHQW EDFNJURXQGV +RZHYHU VRPHWLPHV ZH also shed tears about some of our failures and regrets. Talking of failures and regrets brings us to mind WKH LGHD RI JXLOW IHHOLQJV Ζ KDYH PHW D IHZ SHRSOH in my Ministry who are always living with guilt. Some have even gone to the extent of being depressed about their guilt. In some cases, it may not be their faults but they still hang on to the guilt. They may be thinking, ‘if it had not been me, that would not have happened’. A few days before writing this piece, I was preparing my Sunday sermon on a Bible passage and I was reminded how important it is to deal with guilt. The Apostle Paul, writing to the believers in Rome, stated that: “There is no condemnation now for those who 20 ROSSINGTON TODAY

live in union with Christ Jesus.â€? (Romans 8: 1) The bible reminds us that all of us have sinned and hence, are under the judgement of God. This results in condemnation. However, Romans 8 reminds us that if we are in union with Christ Jesus, then there is no condemnation for us. To be in union with Jesus is to believe that Jesus is the Son of God, repent from your sins, and ask the Holy Spirit to come and live in you. Such confession brings forgiveness and wipes away any guilt. This kindness of God also makes you his child. 1 John 3: 1 says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!â€? Becoming a child of God gives you the boldness to approach God frequently and to talk to him in prayer. Since the presence of God through his Spirit is in you, you are connected to God himself – not only for a passing moment but eternally and intimately. It is therefore important to continue to connect with God by reading his word frequently and praying to him daily. These activities are some of the ways that will help you overcome any guilt feelings. %\ WKH ZD\ LI Ζ KDYH RÎ? HQGHG DQ\RQH LQ P\ conduct as a Minister, please do forgive me. I want to get rid of any guilt feelings that are in my way now. I wonder if you can do the same now. This month, as you continue to bask in the glorious warm weather, remember that God has sent his Son Jesus to help you overcome any feelings of guilt you have due to your past mistakes. It will be therefore be helpful if you connect with God through this Jesus. Have a blessed month.

During the last month, lots of items have been uploaded to the website, including the completion of the written material from Bryan Royle, one of the large family who grew up on Central Drive. Bryan’s story has evoked memories of a childhood in the 1940s and 50s that combined hardship with lots of smiles and laughter. There are family trees and photos to add to the writing and they will appear in the coming weeks. The team had a visit IURP -DQLV &UHVZHOO ZKRVH JUDQGIDWKHU DQG VWHS JUDQGIDWKHU were part of the 1912 pit sinking men who appear in the attached photograph.. She grew up in Tickhill but she still has family in Rossington that she and her husband stay with when they come from their retirement home in Barbados. Her grandfather was Peter Wedd and her grandmother, Mary Clayton, remarried George Hearn. Janis’ mother, Millie, had sisters and brothers who still have families in the village, whose names will be recognised by many.

We add pieces from the present day too, and have recently added some photos of St Michaels as it is in the summer. At the time of writing, we have permission to mount a display box in the Library at Holmescarr Centre, and we shall use that to show some of the material we have collected along the way, with regular changes. We have uploaded a taster page of the history project one of our team has been working on which is related to the 1838 sale of the lands belonging to Rossington Hall. It’s an extensive piece of work and will have a much larger presence on the site when our webmaster has completed it. Bandana Challenge - Tia Rescue We are a Shire approved visitors centre and a local charity who look after 35 Shire horses and over a hundred greyhounds and Lurchers along with a menagerie of other animals.

The Bandana Challenge event on 28th August will give the public the chance to see these beautiful dogs and Shire horses as well as all the other animals that make up the Tia family including Dandy and Beano, two mischievous miniature donkeys. We are hoping to smash the Guinness Book of Records for the most dogs wearing bandanas! It currently stands at 764 but we hope to have around 2,000 dogs here. There will be stalls, a dog show and of course the chance to be part of a record breaking team so if you have a furry friend who looks fetching in a bandana come and join the fun.
