Welcome to the
December
Childrens Parties
2016 edition
From £5.99 9 per child 25% % off with this ad advertisement December already and the last magazine of 2016. It doesn’t seem like a year has passed since I was last writing my Christmas magazine introduction.
I am no more organised this year than last year, and I have created an added challenge to deal with in December this year. All being well (and I hope I am not tempting fate by mentioning this,) we are moving house! Having decided to wait until 2017 to consider this, a home came on the market that tempted us to make the move in 2016. We aren’t going far, but the upheaval of moving a family of 5 and many years of accumulated possessions two weeks before Christmas will certainly test my organisational skills this December. At the time of writing there are 3 weeks until the move and major decluttering has been taking place throughout our current home! This year more than ever I will be looking forward to some relaxation over the Christmas period, although of course I may decide to forget that and get the paint brushes out – although I have promised my husband we will wait until the new year to start any projects. The January issue will be delivered to you between Christmas and New Year. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Wednesday 7th December. We do work to a slightly different time scale with this issue as they have to be printed and delivered back to me, sorted and delivered to my team of distributors before Christmas, so as always, your assistance in getting everything to me on time would be much appreciated. Wishing you and your family and friends a very happy Christmas.
Enjoy the Christmas festivities and I will be back in a months’ time with your first magazine of 2017!

Cause for a Cuppa! Merry Christmas from Cause for a Cuppa! It hasn’t seemed two minutes since we were doing our 2015 Christmas visit. From everyone at Cause for a Cuppa (including me that totals ‌ one), we want to wish you a very happy and blessed Christmas 2016. As a church leader, one of the challenges with times like Christmas is that we can easily get “usedâ€? to the story. I mean, how many Nativity performances can you watch before you could actually write the script?! Once you get used to something, the sparkle fads and it becomes ‌ shall we say it ‌ boring. So the last few Christmas times, we have tried to consider the whole event from various people’s angles. Some have been major players. Some have been on the sidelines, but incredible nonetheless. Along those lines, I would like to bring out a character that isn’t named. Actually there are many of these such characters in the plot. We don’t know any of their names, where they live, what they were like and whether they would have wanted to have FaceBook or not! But we do know they all had rooms to hire out ‌ but were all full up. Yes we are on about those notorious inn keepers. It’s those lot that made up the phrase “there was no room for them (Joseph & Mary)â€? at the Inn. Undoubtedly there would have been multiple possibilities, especially because hospitality was such an important thing within the culture. However due to the census being taken at the time, many were travelling and spare room for travellers was in short supply. Messy Church (3:30-5:30) Wednesday (14 Dec) Thursday (15 Dec) We are asking ÂŁ1 pp to help with costs. iShine (3:45-5:00) Tuesday (1,8 Nov) Subs - ÂŁ1pp All Welcome Sunday ...10.30am Holmescarr Centre

But I wonder. Did those inn keepers absolutely have NO room ‌ no possibility to squeeze another young couple in? I mean, here she was, obviously heavily pregnant and near enough ready to give birth. Was there no compassion in people’s hearts in “thoseâ€? days? Sure there was, just no compassion for them, on that day. Did any of those inn keepers realise what was happening? Had there been just ONE inn keeper who would have found a little space for them, he/she would have been written into the history Book of books. What a missed opportunity! I know. I can imagine what you are saying. “How would they have known?â€? OK, fair enough. However, one thing I have noticed is that sometimes the most extraordinary things are wrapped in the ordinary. I am glad that there was one chappy who did WDNH QRWLFH DQG RÎ? HUHG KLV EDUQ WKRXJK PXFN\ LW certainly was. It was far better than being out in the elements. Because of what he did, he had a part in one of the most unusual, mind-blowing, history changing events of the world. Regardless of how far you might take Christianity, you would have to admit that this little baby changed the world. Just two small thoughts from that if you would allow me. This Christmas, would you consider, not just the little baby but Who the little baby was? This is a historical event. Even hardened skeptics don’t deny the reality of this Person. If we could get beyond that, what does this mean to you personally? (Remember the door is always open :) The second is this ‌ would you, this Christmas, look for the extraordinary under the ordinary? Don’t miss an opportunity. This may be the Christmas your child/grand child remembers most because of time you spend with them. Maybe you joined in with Operation Christmas Child and \RX PDGH WKH GLÎ? HUHQFH WR D FKLOG LQ D GLVWDQW ODQG /HW WKDW VLQN LQ ΖWȇV DOO RUGLQDU\ VWXÎ? Č? RU is it wrapped up in something extraordinary? As always, the door is always open and the kettle always on. Have a fab day and we’ll see you in the new year. (can’t believe I just said that!)

Update from Councillor
Rachael Blake Halloween events, the fantastic Pa arish Council firework display and the Remembrrance Day Parade are just the 3 of the many events that have taken place in the village ove er the last few weeks which highlight the many good d things that are happening. It was a privilege to be part of the Parade and it takes a lot of time and effort for the British Legion volunteers to organise this and it was good to see so many young people from our uniformed groups being involved. Update on the re-development of the Pit Top I have had a number of residents contact me about what is happening now that RecyCoal are no longer responsible for the work. As I mentioned in previous updates, Harworth estates are now responsible for re-developing the site and the long awaited planning application has now been submitted to Doncaster Council. It can be found on the planning section of DMBC at http:// pad.doncaster.gov.uk/NPSPublicDocs/00709283. pdf. The application outlines what Harworth Estate’s plans are and reiterates their desire to make it a positive aspect for the village. The key changes are that the work will be done in 4 separate phases; there will be 4670 metres of new publically accessible footpaths which will connect it to the reinstated bridleway that crosses the site at Grange Lane. In addition there are plans to create a memorial garden adjacent to the cemetery. Their timescale for full completion is 36 months. I am aware that the Parish Council are going to be looking at this planning application so please check their Facebook page for details. Please contact me if you have any views on these plans or would like further information. Bus stops on West Lane I was asked a number of months ago for additional bus stops on West End Lane. After weeks of chasing up the request I was told by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive that DMBC had said that there weren’t any areas that were suitable due to the open plan nature of front gardens. Whilst there may be objections, I didn’t think it was right that the Highways Department made the decision without asking residents. On contacting Highways they were very happy to look at the situation again and I am pleased to say that they are now consulting on the locations – once I have more information I will include it in these updates. Youth Club DMBC Children’s services have been looking for 22 ROSSINGTON TODAY

a number of years at the best way to provide youth services across Doncaster. These changes have had to come about because of the budget cuts that DMBC are having to deal with not just in children’s hild ’ services i b butt across allll services. i DMBC are looking at ways for the youth club to remain in the village, but managed and run by volunteers. Many groups and organisations are working together to make sure that the youth club remains and there will be a need to have new volunteers involved. If you would like to be involved please do get in touch and I can put you in touch with the DMBC officer. Bankwood Lane A number of residents attended the Bankwood Lane drop ins on 1 November at the Memorial Hall and subsequently submitted objections to the current planning applications. The next 2 planning committees will be held on 13 December and 10 January both at 2pm and in Civic Offices. I have been told by the planning officer that the lorry park application will definitely go to the planning committee for a decision and residents are welcome to attend. Christmas Events There are many Christmas events planned in the village for December. To mention just two, 2nd December sees the Parish Council’s annual pantomime being held this year at the Memorial Hall and the Winter Wonderland Family Night at Miners Welfare. Tickets are available for both from the venues and no doubt both will be a great night out. Surgery I am pleased to be able to let you know that I am back to normal with my surgeries and my December one will be on 8 December: 12.30 – 2.30pm at the café at the Holmescarr Centre 3pm – 4.30pm at Miners Welfare Please don’t wait for my surgeries to get in touch. Please contact me on: Tel: 07976896563/01302 710251: Email: Rachael.blake@doncaster.gov.uk I hope you have a wonderful, restful and peaceful Christmas. With very best wishes

Christmas cactus care! Light Christmas cacti are tropical epiphytes, which grow naturally in rain-forest trees. Choose a cool cool, bright spot spot, out of direct sun is best. Try an east-facing windowsill, and it won’t know it ever left the jungle. Humidity They love a humid atmosphere so are best grown on a gravel tray. Fill a waterproof bowl with gravel then add water to half way up the gravel. Place the potted plant on top of the gravel. Water As it’s tropical it’s less droughttolerant than other cacti species. Olly Kibble is a 4 year old little boy living in Rossington. To most people Olly would appear to be a normal happy 4 year old and they would be right. However just after Olly’s 2nd birthday, he was diagnosed with a most devastating life limiting condition, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This is a crushing disease that slowly destroys every muscle in the body, usually starting with the ability to walk, on average with the child fully wheelchair bound by the age of 8 years old. EVERTON SEEKS YOUTH WORKERS Until recently Notts County Council provided a youth club for young people in the village of Everton (and a number of nearby communities) by the provision of a “youth bus” on a weekly basis. Following budget cuts this has been withdrawn. Everton Parish Council are committed to the provision of services for young people in the village and have agreed to sponsor a youth club to provide facilities for 10 to 19 year old residents of the parish. A “taster” run by the Council and NCC Youth Services has indicated that there should be support for a club with attendance at viable levels. We are looking to engage a lead youth worker and assistant as part-time contract workers. The initial contract will be for a six week project, with an extension to at least the end of the current financial year if this proves successful. It is proposed that the Club will be based in the Village Hall on Thursday evenings from 6pm until 8pm (with the first 15 minutes as preparation time for the youth workers). The club will operate in the school term time (excluding half terms).
assistant we require some experience of working with young people and a willingness to learn. These are supervised posts and professional advice/mentoring will be available. Remuneration will be £9.50 per hour for the lead worker and £8.50 for the assistant. Both will require DBS checks that will be paid for by the Council. If you are interested in either post and would like to discuss your qualifications, background and ideas for running our club please forward your CV with a covering letter to: Gillian Culverwell Clerk to Everton Parish Council 44 Ordsall Park Retford Notts DN22 7PQ Or email to: theclerk@evertonvillage.org.uk
