You may lose something good, but you wil gain something better Unknown Author Another school year is coming to an end, and another set of young people are heading towards a change of nursery/school/college/apprenticeship/further education/employment. Leaving the place that they will have hopefully been very happy for many years can be a sad time for both children and their parents (I remember children’s and parent’s tears during and after the year 6 leavers services well) but it is also a positive time when we can look forward to what is to come and the new opportunities available. My eldest has just finished school and we now have the wait for the A level results that will determine where he ends up next; he is very philosophical about it – whatever will be, will be! Whatever change you or your loved ones may be facing over the coming months, I hope it will be change for the better. The August issues will be delivered to you late July. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Friday 8th July. Your assistance in ensuring that items are submitted on time in this busy period heading towards the school summer holidays is much appreciated. We do take the distribution of the magazines very seriously and have an easy way for people to let us know if they aren’t receiving their copy. For any teens out there, I just wanted to say “thanksâ€? for the opportunity to have years together at assemblies. I know you were “forcedâ€? to be there but hopefully there were bits that you remembered (other than the chocolate bars!). b !) I h hope you could ld see that h G God d iis not jjust for Sunday morning but for life. I hope you could see that learning about these bits could actually EH IXQ HQJDJLQJ DQG DSSO\ WR UHDO OLIH ČŠVWXÎ?Č‹ As you have gone from Infant School to Junior and then into High School, your thoughts toward me ‌ and God probably changed. That’s OK. I hope at some point in life you will be willing to look at things without peer pressure and for \RXU RZQ EHQHČ´W Ζ DOZD\V WU\ WR OHDYH D WKRXJKW with you ‌ “What if it IS real?â€?. Be willing to ask hard questions. Questions are good. Exams are one of those hot topics that seem to be appearing more and more. I posted a comment on Facebook on the eve of when the GCSE exams started. I tried to encourage all those I know to do their best. The reality is that some of us are good exam sitters. Others are not. I know it doesn’t seem fair. One of the most valuable lessons I have ever learned is that life is not fair, but not to let that control you. For any who were at All Saints during my last time in assembly (middle of May), we talked about that you

I hope you get what you were aiming at. at But you may not. not Yes, you can resit your exams. If that is an option and you want to do it, go for it. If you have a dream, don’t let a grade on an exam douse that dream. Neither Steve Jobs (Apple founder) nor Bill Gates (Microsoft founder) were uni graduates. But no one would deny that they were successful and changed the world. (Their bank accounts aren’t in bad nick either.) When I went to uni for my electronics engineering course, there were some very talented people ‌ who were lazy. If I were to bet, my money would NOT be on those people to have made it. My money would be on those who understood what it meant to work, claw for every mark, sweat and be hungry to succeed. It is those people who go out and change the world. Do it. I want to leave you with these comments made by a former president of the USA. I like it, not because it was made by a president (speech in France, 1910) but because it is true ‌ “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. Update from Councillor

Rachael Blake Thank you to the many residents who contact me with their concerns and suggestions forr how the village can be improved. Sometimes this involves one conversation or email and the problem is solved such as street lighting problems. Other times, es the problem is more complex and I am really grateful when residents keep me informed, letting me know about any new issues. Since my last update, buses, missed bins, street lighting, grass cutting, the correct routes for lorries, and the Well are just a few of the new issues that residents have contacted me about. First – a couple of dates on Harworth Estates and the country park. This is the latest update I have had from DMBCs planning when I asked about progress. They are keen to restore the site in a timely manner, improve the visual appearance of the tip and provide a restoration scheme in line with the approved Recycoal scheme. The revised restoration scheme is currently at an early stage and at present they do not have any plans to share, however, the revised scheme will be roughly in line with the previously approved Recycoal scheme. They anticipate submitting a revised restoration scheme to the Council midsummer, but our keen to work with DMBC and others so if you have any views on the site, please let me know and I can ensure that these are included in discussions with Harworth Estates. Bankwood Lane – I have received a number of different complaints this month; smell, iron fillings on garden furniture, black soot, orange clouds and masses of flies. I am having a meeting with the Director of Public Health to discuss these concerns but if you experience these or similar problems please contact the Environment Agency on 0800 80 70 60. Grass Cutting. During the last few months DMBC have introduced new vehicles and equipment and restructured the whole of the workforce. New staff have been recruited and training on new equipment provided to staff. This has meant that the teams are behind with their cutting and maintenance. I share residents’ concerns about the standard of grass cutting and areas that appear to have been left and will be out again with the street scene team highlighting residents’ concerns. Central Heating. Due to changes in Government legislation, there are more people now eligible for grants to have central heating installed. The criteria has been extended to include; households with an income less than £20,000 (total gross household income); with an existing solid fuel central heating 10 ROSSINGTON TODAY

system with 4 radiators or less; with an existing warm air central heating system. The deadline for applying is August and those qualifying will receive full gas central heating free of charge. If you are interested please contact 736000 and ask for the Energy Team. Team Skip Day y Thanks to St Leger for organising another skip day in June this time around The Circle area. They are going to see how well this one went and then make future plans which I will let you know about. Buses and takeaways I would like to hear what you think about the new bus service, the route, times, frequency. Also, the number of takeaways is often raised with me as a concern. Do you think there are too many? What would you like to see instead – please do let me know July and August Events Elsewhere in the magazine the Parish Council will be advertising their 3 day event, being held at the Welfare where there will be something for all ages which I hope you will be going to. Also, having had a number of complaints from parents about there being nothing to do in the 6 weeks holidays (or not knowing about what is happening) I have organised a meeting, inviting lots of groups in the village who already provide activities, to see if we can work together to promote everything that is going on. If everything goes to plan we will be at the Parish Council’s event letting people know what is happening over the summer, and using Facebook and other ways to ensure parents know what is happening. The team is working on getting artistes, artists and scientists together to a Fun Palace Day on Saturday, 1 October at Holmescarr. The last one was in July of last year and we hope to expand on the activities seen in that one, assisted by the Right Up Our Street team. We are expecting a visit from Donco, the mythical creature, and the Rossington Quilt will return after a spell on show at The Point in town. Both of these had input and crafting from Rossington villagers. 'RQFR ZLOO DOVR DSSHDU DW WKH '1 ZHHNHQG ȴUVW one in September) and we are hoping to have musical input to that event with singing, and – wait for it - a kazoo band! We’ll be looking for kazoo musicians and you can register your

interest at our stall at the Parish Carnival on 6DWXUGD\ -XO\ ΖI \RXȇYH ZRQGHUHG ZKDW LW ZRXOG EH OLNH WR EH LQYROYHG LQ D ȾDVK PRE this could be your chance if we get enough volunteers. Come along to our meetings to get involved in the planning of and participation in these events, and workshops we are also planning. Your art, craft, poetry or music may be just what we need.
