Cause for a Cuppa! Summer holidays are a memory. School jumpers and trousers are pulled out and book bags at the ready. Summed up, that must mean September (and the new school year) is here. I hope everyone had a great summer and was able to do some de-stressing even though the kiddos would have been hanging about more than usual. :) As of this writing, just days ago Adam Peaty was a QDPH Ζ KDG QHYHU KHDUG EHIRUH EXW LQ D Čľ DVK KH KDV joined my “most admired listâ€?. Regardless of whether you were glued to the telly day and night for the 17 days of the summer Olympics in Rio or not, you would have heard the name “Peatyâ€? in some way, VKDSH RU IRUP +H EHFDPH WKH Č´ UVW %ULWLVK PDQ VLQFH Moorhouse in 1988 to win a gold medal in swimming. Not only did he win but shattered the world record by swimming the 100 metres breaststroke in 57.13 seconds. He won by such a margin that he had VKRZHUHG GULHG RÎ? DQG ZDV KDYLQJ D FXSSD E\ the time the silver medalist touched poolside (well, WKDWȇV D ELW 277 ΖW ZDV D JUHDW GD\ IRU %ULWLVK VSRUW Although that was a great event and a great win, that was not the real reason why he is on my “most admired listâ€?. The story behind the story was that Adam Peaty had a dreadful fear of water as a child ‌ to the point that his mum struggled with him even when it came to bath time. I don’t know the details on how he developed from a water-fearing young boy to aquatic Olympic champion but there must have been, at the very least, family members encouraging a young lad to grab hold of his fears, wrestle them to the ground and declare himself victor. There have been many throughout history and each has a tale to tell. Each had to face a fear, a GLÉ? FXOW\ D FKDOOHQJH +DYLQJ EHHQ LQ 5RVVLQJWRQ now for nearly 14 years, I have noticed so PDQ\ FKLOGUHQ \RXQJ SHRSOH ODFN FRQČ´ GHQFH willingness to put themselves forward ‌ mostly I think out of fear. It reminded me of ‌ well, me. Last year we started a group called iShine. It is a performing arts group for children / young people ZKR ZRXOG OLNH WR WU\ GLÎ? HUHQW IRUPV RI SHUIRUPLQJ arts: singing, sign language, puppetry, etc. We had a great start and were able to see some children come in, full of fear and apprehension truly grow to the point of being willing to perform on stage during our ODVW 0HVV\ &KXUFK DW WKH :HOIDUH ΖW ZDV IDQWDVWLF :H were able to secure some funding from the Parish Council and Doncaster Council to expand what we do. This year we will be having some drumming sessions, D ČŠVWRS PRWLRQČ‹ VKRUW Č´ OP :DOODFH DQG *URPLW VW\OH clay animation) experience, more sign language (went down a treat) and singing as well. We will also get to experience a proper recording session at Higher 5K\WKP LQ 'RQFDVWHU Ζ UHDOLVH QRW HYHU\21( ZLOO OLNH HYHU\7+Ζ1* %XW L6KLQH LV DERXW OHDUQLQJ WR work as a team, getting on with it, seeing a project WKURXJK WR WKH HQG JURZLQJ LQ FRQČ´ GHQFH DQG WU\LQJ learning new things. These are all great life skills. iShine runs on a Tuesday from 3:45-5:00 in our space at the Holmescarr Centre. We will start on Tuesday, 6 September. Registration opens at 3:30 and there is no need to pre-book. Subs are ÂŁ1 pp and parents aren’t required to stay. Children must be in full time school to participate due to attention span. Obviously we can handle a limited number of people so depending on the uptake, we might need to set up a waiting list. If your child would like to give it a go, they would be very welcome to come along. You never know ‌ the next “Adam Peatyâ€? might be in Rossington, full of fear but willing to face it. Rosemary Shrager added to Clumber Park’s Festival of Food and Drink menu. Top chef and cookery teacher Rosemary Shrager is the latest celebrity chef to be added to the delicious Cookery Theatre menu at this year’s Festival of Food and Drink, held at Clumber Park on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September 2016.

As well as the popular Cookery Theatre, there are also interactive cookery classes covering everything from barbecuing to butchery for adults, to pizza, bread and ice cream making for the children.

Reunited with her ITV Chopping Block onscreen partner John Whaite, Rosemary will be appearing on Sunday 18th September, with a demonstration in the Cookery Theatre, a VIP meet and greet, and book signing.

The shop on the Bankwood Lane Allotments is open Saturdays 10:00 to 12:00 and is available to all, you don’t have to have an allotment just an interest in gardening and saving money! Comments include: • Support needed to encourage people to look for work in areas that are outside their usual occupation. Training and upskilling is required. • For Rossington to become prosperous, there is a need for a good mix of local employers to provide better/more opportunities for our young people. • Greatly improved since opening of new road. Hopeful for link from Bankwood would solve other problems. • The current trend of ‘hairdressers and pizza’ has to be stopped as we are witnessing the death of our village hub as a place for residents to shop. ENVIRONMENT

Comments include: • Parking without a doubt needs sorting especially around the schools. • Big problem with dog mess on Potteries. Update from Councillor

Rachael Blake By the time you read this, the summer holidays will nearly be over and our 6 week RAP prograamme will be coming to an end. I have spoken to parents and grandparents who have said how good th he programme has been and that it has been great for their eir children to try new things and avoid getting bored in the holidays. I will be working with the activity providers to put together a proposal for next year’s activities which we will be submitting to the Parish Council. It was good to meet so many residents at the Rossington Festival which was great for the village, which the Parish Council organised. The ongoing problems at Bankwood Lane, the increase in traffic and how it is affecting many roads and in particular Sheepbridge Lane have been just 2 of the areas that I have been working on. Grass Cutting and general upkeep of the area – this continues to be a complaint from residents and I have been out with the street scene team to look at particular areas. The nettles that have been encroaching onto the path just near the bridge on Stripe Road have been cut back and there have been additional staff working in Rossington to get on top of the backlog of work which I mentioned in my last update. If you have specific concerns, please let me know and I will ensure that they are addressed. Bankwood Lane – Shortly after writing my last update, I received an update from DMBC. Also Councillors have now had 2 further meetings; one with senior DMBC officers and one with DMBC officers and the Environment Agency. I made sure that residents who have contacted me were sent the update. The Environment Agency have also produced an update so at our last meeting, we asked for both these updates to be combined and distributed to all residents in the area. Breach notices have been served on a number of companies who now have to comply with their operating times. I am aware of one company ignoring this and working throughout the night which has been reported and action taken. Attero who operate the lorry park are going to be seeking planning permission for this ( they haven’t had it up to now) so this will be an opportunity for residents and of course councillors to voice their opinions about this. At our meeting with the Environment Agency they said that they have very few complaints from residents and I understand why due to the lack of action being taken, not just on this occasion but over a number of years on different issues. Sheepbridge Lane – the DHL lorries using Sheepbridge Lane is something that shouldn’t be happening because one of their conditions for receiving planning permission was that they have to go south through Harworth to access the A1 then M18 etc. On a weekly, if not daily basis I am passing information from residents to planning enforcement who are then contacting DHL and I have asked them to enforce this planning condition. In addition, the drainage engineers have inspected the road again due to the noise. They found that the manholes that hadn’t been repaired by Severn Trent Water didn’t meet the thresh hold needed for any action to be taken as they weren’t below the 40mm needed to be replaced. The manhole opposite the bus stop hadn’t dropped to within 40mm however the tarmac is going to be overlaid to reduce this risk which will be done in due course. The manholes did not have any movement in them when traffic was passing over them however if there is a noise complaint then this needs to be passed to the environmental health as a noise nuisance (which I have now done). When I was elected one of my biggest concerns was that when FARRS opened, it was important that the village benefited from this but didn’t suffer because of it. DMBC always said that they would review how FARRS has impacted the village and take necessary action and Councillors and the Parish Council are putting pressure on DMBC to make sure that this action is taken.
