Welcome to the Autumn 2019 edition

Today

“Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn.” Elizabeth Lawrence

October again already, for me 2019 is flying by. No sooner have the children returned to school, then Halloween is upon us and the countdown to Christmas begins! My October reminder is that if you wish to be organised this Christmas then now is the time to start searching through these pages and getting things booked in. Everyone gets increasingly busy as the festive season gets nearer – many are already taking bookings for 2020. Whatever you want to get done before Christmas, you may well find someone to help you in this magazine. Just don’t forget to tell advertisers where you found them please! If you would like to share community information in the Doncaster area or reach the residents of over 25,000 Doncaster homes with your business, then please do get in touch. As well as this magazine there are Today Publications in Tickhill, Bawtry, Rossington, Harworth & Bircotes and Bessacarr & Cantley so we can help you reach all those areas.

Best wishes,

Paula x

Wonderful news! At the end of August we received an anonymous donation of £10,000 towards the biopsy machine. This was extremely generous and our very grateful thanks to the donor(s). Our stall at Auckley Show made £324. After an early shower thankfully the sun shone for the rest of the day. Thank you to everyone who supported us. Intake and Wheatley Pub Watch donated £700 last month. Our thanks to all involved and for their continuing support. We received £3,500 from Wheatley Golf Club and would like to thank the organisers and everyone who donated or helped in any way. Don’t forget to make a note of our annual Memory Tree event in the Frenchgate Centre which will be from Monday, 25th November until Friday, 20th December. We hope to be downstairs outside Boots from 10am to 3pm Monday to Saturday. Please get in touch if you have any fundraising ideas or would like to be a volunteer.

Our contact details 22 Wood Street, Doncaster DN1 3LW (entrance by the side of Kerry Gough Florists), second floor (lift available), Room 209. Tel: 01302 325029. Email: info@dcdt.co.uk. LI O NS in Woodfield Local people need you

Can you believe that in the 21st century we still have people sleeping on the floor with no carpets, just a blanket and pillow for comfort. There are people who, through no fault of their own, cannot feed their families. There are young single mums, disowned by their families, trying to hold down a job and be a good parent despite little support.

There are people with disabilities and elderly people who have given everything for this country who now find themselves alone and socially isolated. This isn’t in some far off, third world country but right here across the district we all call our home. We don’t make a ‘song and dance’ about the support your generosity allows us to provide but believe me, it is very much appreciated by the people we help with food and the basic home comforts we all take for granted. We also support school projects that broaden the minds of our youngsters. We also support a wide variety of community groups. All of these support local people and make our community a place we are all proud to call our home.

We Need You!

Would you like to get involved with raising money to support people in need? Do you like to socialise and have some fun whilst helping others? We are 34 men and women from diverse backgrounds and ages from about 30 upwards with one thing in common – we want to make a difference by helping people and community groups across our district. We need like minded people like YOU! If you would like to get involved or if you think we may be able to help you or a community project please get in touch. Call in to Rossington Labour 5th Nov 8.30pm or Royal Oak 19th Nov 8.30pm to have an informal chat.

Miners Pension Compensation We are successfully claiming compensation for former miners who transferred out of the Mineworkers Pension Scheme. Many miners were advised to transfer their British Coal Pension to a private pension scheme which paid considerably less! This was bad advice and many retired miners or their widows have lost out. Example 1 - £135,000 Mr J. of GREAT HOUGHTON was advised in 1991 by an agent of Sun Life to transfer £25,000 from his mineworkers pension scheme to them. We were able to show this was bad advice and obtained compensation of £135,000.

We are now helping Yorkshire miners and their families TODAY claim the compensation they deserve. See our adverts in the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and Sunday People.

Example 2 - £100,359 Mr P. of BARNSLEY was advised in 1989 by an agent of Abbey Life to transfer £9300 from his mineworkers pension. He was wrongly advised and Abbey Life paid compensation of £100,359.

The NuOla South Yorkshire Roosters are a team that participate in a high paced, noncontact and exciting version of American Football called ‘Flag Football’. American Flag Football is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. The aim of Flag Football is to stop the ball carrier from scoring by removing their flag. The Roosters compete in the Middle England Conference Division One League, and are ranked the number one team in that division in South Yorkshire. In the 2019 season, the Roosters finished 25th out of 40 teams in Division One in the United Kingdom. The team includes a mixture of both male and female players, aged 16 and over, from all over

12

South Yorkshire and beyond. The team currently has 4 female players who represent Great Britain in Flag Football, and two male members who qualified through to the final stages of selection for Great Britain. The NuOla South Yorkshire Roosters are always looking to recruit new players to the team, whether they have experience of playing American Football or not. Just bring enthusiasm and a bottle of water, as the first three training sessions are free at Rossington, Doncaster; the Roosters training ground.
