Welcome to the

December 2016 edition December already and the last magazine of 2016. It doesn’t seem like a year has passed since I was last writing my Christmas magazine introduction. I am no more organised this year than last year, and I have created an added challenge to deal with in December this year. All being well (and I hope I am not tempting fate by mentioning this,) we are moving house! Having decided to wait until 2017 to consider this, a home came on the market that tempted us to make the move in 2016. We aren’t going far, but the upheaval of moving a family of 5 and many years of accumulated possessions two weeks before Christmas will certainly test my organisational skills this December. At the time of writing there are 3 weeks until the move and major decluttering has been taking place throughout our current home!

Carpets & Vinyl

Wood & Laminate flooring

Blinds & Shutters

This year more than ever I will be looking forward to some relaxation over the Christmas period, although of course I may decide to forget that and get the paint brushes out – although I have promised my husband we will wait until the new year to start any projects. The January issue will be delivered to you between Christmas and New Year. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Wednesday 7th December. We do work to a slightly different time scale with this issue as they have to be printed and delivered back to me, sorted and delivered to my team of distributors before Christmas, so as always, your assistance in getting everything to me on time would be much appreciated. Wishing you and your family and friends a very happy Christmas.

Enjoy the Christmas festivities and I will be back in a months’ time with your first magazine of 2017!

Pastors Page In the book club that meets at Bawtry Library we have a little tradition – at the meeting before Christmas we each take a book from home, wrap it and take it to the group. We then take home D GLÎ? HUHQW ERRN QRW NQRZLQJ ZKDW LW LV or who donated it. So come Christmas we unwrap the book and get a surprise. One year Christmas morning saw me with a dreadful book about a lady spending her life shopping and “doingâ€? lunch in my hand. Thankfully, neither of my children were quick enough to snap a picture. Now, I don’t know about the other members of the group, but I always put a lot of thought into which book I’m going to contribute; I have a fair few theological ERRNV EXW DP SUHWW\ FRQČ´ GHQW WKDW RQH of those wouldn’t go down too well, I also have a guilty pleasure in reading what, disparagingly, are sometimes called airport QRYHOV Č‚ SUHWW\ ORZEURZ FULPH Č´ FWLRQ Č‚ and I wouldn’t want the others to think that someone in the group could stoop so low. On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to go the other way and have whoever ends up with my book thinking I’m trying to impress them; with my well- worn copy of Beowulf, for example. Then there are the books which are like friends to me and I could never give them away, and the same goes for those books given to me by my children. So it’s always a bit of a dilemma deciding which book to contribute; classics are a safe option, as are biographies (but not of sports or rock stars). I could always donate one of my 8

Of course, if any member of the book club reads this column, then I’m rumbled and my reputation’s in tatters anyway; so I might as well wrap up my beloved copy of “Barbara Cartland: Crusader In Pinkâ€? by John Pearson and be done with it. Here’s hoping your Christmas shopping is stress-free and that in 2017 your reputation will only be HQKDQFHG (QMR\ \RXU UHDGLQJ

Arts Review & what’s going on - December 2016 • Tickhill Music Society y Friday 9 December at 7pm ( NB new time) the Wonderful John Kirkpatrick will be performing Carols, folk songs and other Christmas stuff accompanying himself on a variety of Squeezeboxes. This chap is the Business and this will be wonderful…. And I am sure that the audience will have lots of opportunity to accompany John. Come and have a Christmas sing. In St Mary’s School Hall Tickhill www. tickhillmusicsociety.org

I am always y amazed at the calibre of musicians that play for Tickhill Music Society one Friday each month. In November we were treated to a concert by a yyoung pianist, Jinah Shim, who played the whole evening from her head… no sheet music at all, the program included work byy Liszt and Chopin… not known for a sparsityy of notes or easyy finger-work. She was trulyy astounding. I must confess myself y prettyy ignorant of much of the work that I have listened to over the years, and each time these concerts provide an education. Not all the music is easy, very little Mozart is played ( though we did get a Sonata in November) each time I have to pinch myself that I am not imagining that such a small societyy (an audience of about 100) can command performances which also occur in major concert halls. Those of yyou who enjoyy classical music and trail off to larger concert halls and don’t come to this society really need your heads examining. December, however is not classical, but one of the greats of the English Folk Scene… be advised - advance tickets are a must for nonmembers, as this will sell out and a shoe –horn needed to get everyone in! 12

Community Hi from the Mayflower, I can’t believe this is the last write up of the year and what a challenging year it has been. However we are all so lucky to have the support of wonderful careers and volunteers together with people out there that care. We have a Christmas Fayre in Reception at the Sanctuary on Sunday 4th December 10am – 12noon – please come and support this. We are still bag packing in Marks and Spencer at Wheatley Hall Road, and will also be around in November and December both bag packing and with some of our residents outside, that’s providing the weather isn’t too bad. We will also be doing a street collection in Doncaster on the 26th Nov and 17th Dec outside Marks and Spencer. We all really enjoy these as the public are so generous and chatty it’s lovely to meet everyone and learn about their dogs and cats. So please come along and say hello. Big thank you's to Helen and Sara, also Vanya who have also been collecting outside Pets at Home. Big thanks also to all the usual team that have been relentless in turning up no matter what the weather to help with bucket collections. You are all stars. Also many thanks to Tesco who bring home delivery to the Sanctuary. This includes food, washing up liquid, disinfectant and much more all free. Many thanks you make life here so much easier.

We usually put up our own decorations at the Sanctuary for Christmas, however this year we have amazing help Yorkshire Building Society staff are giving up their time to come and volunteer, they will be helping with day to day tasks and also putting our decorations up. A big thank you. Update on Heart my new adopted street dog from Cyprus. Bonfire night wasn’t as horrendous as predicted and she took herself upstairs to bed in a dark room with the radio on. This seemed to work wonderfully. So we will remember for the future. She is still not confident around children but loves other dogs and we can’t wait to let her off her lead to have a long play. I think this will be a while though as every noise is still a trauma to her. We are treating her gently and I am sure she will get there. She does love to play and is obsessed by any part of clothing or cuddly she can get her paws or mouth on. Things are going missing and sometimes the strangest things end up at the bottom of the garden. I will say no more!! But she is still the most adorable good funny girl we could have wished for. Our other dog Blossom treats her with contempt and makes sure she doesn’t steal her basket, but she loves the fact that there are two dog bowls to finish off instead of one!

I now have a message from Jack...

Hello I’m Jack, I’m a largish terrier cross and I came to the Mayflower Sanctuary a few weeks ago hoping to find a new family to take me home. My carers put me in a very nice bedroom kennel and gave me a very nice dinner. When I went for a check-up at the vets, it wasn’t good news. They found I had a leaky heart. The vet did some tests and said that I needed to see a specialist so they referred me to the Willows Veterinary Centre. I heard them say it would cost £1000 just to see me. I thought how lucky I am, that the Sanctuary are willing to give me the chance to undergo the special treatment I would need. I’m not sure what that treatment will be, but I do know that until I have it, I can’t be walked in case I just drop down and die. Whatever I have, it must be really horrible. After a long journey to the Willows, I had a scan to confirm my problems and the he new vet told me I had an enlarged rged d heart heaart that t leaked. I had something met ethiing cal called calle PAD and I would need ed aan n operation operat to keep me alive. They told Ken (one of our volunteers) it would cost between £2,000 and £4,000 to fix me. It’s all very scary but my carers said no matter what they would find the money. I would be so very grateful if you could help out here a little. Until I go for my operation, my carers are giving me lots to do to keep me occupied, tasty Kongs and plenty of fuss as even a walk could cause my heart to fail. I’ll be going for the operation soon so keep me in your thoughts please. If you would like to make any donations towards Jacks operation just look at our website to donate. Many thanks We hope everyone has an amazing Christmas and New Year. Don’t forget animals on New Year’s Eve fireworks again! Thank you everyone that has supported us throughout the year. Hope H Ho op pe to see you all soon. pe

Update from Councillor

Rachael Blake By the time you read this we will have had the wonderful Bawtry Chriistmas on 20 November and the 1st Bawttry and Austerfield Heritage weekend being held on the weekend of 26/27 November is likely to be well underway. The Bawtry Christmas event gets bigger and better each year and it is so good to see retailers and the Town Council working together to make the event such a success. Also, we will be looking forward to the Churches Together “Carols around the Tree”. 1st Heritage Weekend-26 and 27 November Everyone is welcome to attend our first heritage weekend. We are starting small with a children’s treasure heritage trail being launched on Saturday 26 starting and finishing at Bawtry library. The usual lovely refreshments will be available. Pop in anytime between 10 and 2 to collect your sheet with the clues on. Whist it is aimed at children, adults will enjoy it as well and learn a lot about the Bawtry as they walk around the town and find the clues. On Sunday 27 the afternoon starts at 2pm and finishes off at the Study Centre with traditional Hog Roast. Further details are on flyers which are at various locations around Bawtry and Austerfield. In January we will be holding a heritage quiz at Phoenix Theatre – further details will be in my next update. All residents of all ages are warmly welcome and we are hoping that this is just the start of celebrating our heritage more and next year we are looking to have a heritage week with a range of different activities. The group is linking in with all the heritage events that are taking place at Bassetlaw and I will keep you involved of future activities and bids that are being submitted to enable both Bawtry and Austerfield to celebrate their rich heritage in lots of innovative ways. Re-lining on South Parade This was reported last year and on contacting DMBC there has been some considerable delay in getting the re-lining completed. I have been assured that this will be done by the end of November – I will be checking regularly to see this has been done and if not, I will be in touch with DMBC.

DMBC Councillor

Traffic Regulation Orders for Station Road and Tickhill Road DMBC are consulting currently on changes to parking ki restrictions t i ti on both b th Station St ti Road R d (opposite ( it the school) and Tickhill Road. I am aware of problems around the school and how this not only impacts on the safety of our children but the difficulties that this can cause for local residents. It is possible for a white I bar to put over residents’ drives to deter inconsiderate parking. There is no charge for this to be done – please contact DMBC who can arrange this. The proposal for Tickhill Road is due to the proposals for the bottling plant to become a car park and the need to prevent parking adjacent to the car park. If you have any views on either of these proposals, please do get in touch. Bawtry Community Sports Pavilion I was delighted to be invited to join Doncaster Mayor, Ros Jones and Town Councillors to mark the start of the building of Bawtry’s new community sports pavilion. It will be great to watch the pavilion being built, providing the town with a fantastic new facility. Austerfield Lights switch on The Parish Council are again organising a Christmas Lights switch on event on 1 December. Music and food will be on offer at which I am sure will be a lovely evening for the village. The event will be on the green in front of Bawtry Carbon and I look forward to seeing you there. December Surgery I am pleased to re-start my surgeries again and in December it will be on December 16 from 9.30 in Bawtry Community Library. The date coincides with the draw for the Christmas raffle organised by the Library. I look forward to seeing you at the Draw. Please don’t wait for my surgery though and please contact me at any time on Tel: 07976896563/01302 710251: Email: Rachael. blake@doncaster.gov.uk As I say every month, I have so many things going on, but can’t include them all so please do contact me. Wishing you a happy, peaceful and restful Christmas. With very best wishes

Rachael

visit was real may be on holiday visiting my aging parents and mother-in-law. Maybe, I will have were reading it in late November. One interesting fact is that I left it late, about two days before my trip, to inform my family of the visit. The main reason was that I did not want my parents to make a ‘fuss’ in my hometown. Come to think of it, God decided to visit this world about 2000 years ago. However, not like my visit to my family, before he came, God had announced his visit many years through his agents called the prophets. One of such prophets is Isaiah who announced the birth of the Messiah. 7KHQ WKH /25' VSRNH DJDLQ WR $KD] VD\LQJ ČŠ$VN D VLJQ IRU \RXUVHOI IURP WKH /25' your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven.â€? One reason may be the fact that shepherds at that time were not in the good books of the people because of their bad manners. God, on the other hand, wanted to involve people of all backgrounds in the good news of Jesus’ birth. I wonder if you may be on a wilderness of your own this Christmas season. Maybe your attitudes and manners have brought that feeling. However, your status in society may also have brought about some sort of separation or loneliness. Jesus was born to save his people from their sins by dying on the cross some years later. As you celebrate Christmas, I wonder if you can also remind yourself that it is not enough to have fun. When accepted it will be an important document that will be used for any development in the Parish of Misson. More importantly it is not the Groups ideas that have been incorporated we are merely the conduit that has interpreted the local community’s comments resulting in a 20 year Plan for the Community.

Since the last local community meeting in March when parishioners were invited to inspect the Plan and the Design Guide, the Steering Group has been extremely busy RYHU WKH VXPPHU Č´ QLVKLQJ WKH SODQ DQG developing other documents.

But it’s not over yet – 2017 will see the appointment of the Independent Examiner who will review the Plan and recommend approval or changes; acceptance by Bassetlaw District Council Full Council Meeting and then a referendum to decide whether the Plan should be recommended for adoption

The Plan was sent out for Statutory Consultation in August and six weeks later we received comments from Bassetlaw District Council, Highways England, Environment Agency, Nottinghamshire Wildlife, Nottinghamshire Count Council and Severn Trent.
