Welcome to the July
TICKHILL COUNTRY MARKET Refreshments available
2015 edition
Well exams are over for my family and I am sure that students up and down the country will be celebrating. Just the results in August to look forward to now! About the time these magazines arrive on my driveway my daughter will have her much anticipated School Prom. A great deal of preparation seems to have gone into this one evening, I do hope it lives up to expectations! I am sure that all of the end of school year activities such as sports days, summer fairs, concerts and transition days will all now be well under way. It is my first year for many years that I haven’t had a child at primary school and I think that without all these activities that remind me that the school year is coming to a close, end of term is going to catch me a little by surprise. Just a reminder that all ‘Today’ Publications are available online within a couple of days of distribution each month. You can access them from the home page of www. todaypublications.co.uk or from our facebook page www. facebook.com/todaymags These online versions can be very useful if you need to find an advertisers details when at work, or out and about and don’t have a copy of the magazine to hand.
Free Valuation
The August issue will be delivered to you late July, in fact it may even by early August as I seem to have large numbers of distributors on holiday the last week in July! Apologies if your copy does arrive a few days later than normal. If you would like to have something included in this issue, please make sure details are with me by Friday 10th July.
Enjoy July and I will be back in a months’ time with your August magazine.
Best wishes, Paula x

Misson & Springs WI Do any of you have a grandmother, aunt or great- aunt who went into service when they were fourteen? This was a question posed by our speaker, Meryl White at our May meeting. Given that in the early years of the twentieth century there were 1.5 million people employed in service, it was no surprise that several us answered ‘yes’. Interspersing her talk with interesting social history, Meryl gave us a fascinating insight into her passion for traditional baking, inherited from her grandmother. Grandma Abson was born in 1886 and went to work as a kitchen maid aged fourteen, eventually rising to become the cook general, accruing experience and recipes for the rest of her long life. On her death in 1977, Meryl was given her eclectic collection of recipes - handwritten on scraps of paper, cuttings from newspapers and magazines, booklets produced by manufacturers (remember the Be-Ro book?) and various wartime pamphlets exhorting us to ‘Waste Not, Want Not’. These are now gathered together in Meryl’s book Grandma Abson’s Traditional Baking and Meryl is a passionate advocate for cooking and baking using fresh, seasonal ingredients, producing delicious jams, chutneys, cakes and biscuits of all varieties - and we were able to sample some of them made especially for our evening. We can definitely recommend Meryl if you are looking for an inspiring speaker for your group or charity. At our June meeting which takes place just before this magazine will be delivered to you, our speaker will be Rebecca Turner from Marie Curie Cancer Care; we also hope to hear from our Vice-President, Joanna Phillips about her visit to Buckingham Palace Garden Party on 2nd June. Joanna was unanimously chosen by us to represent Misson & Springs WI at this special occasion. We do not meet in July because of holiday commitments, but look forward to a new season of talks starting in August. We would love you to join us; please contact our secretary, Lynda Redfern on 07796975578 for more information, or turn up on the last Wednesday of every month (except July), at the Community Centre, Vicar Lane, Misson, where you will be made very welcome. We always make sure that we have time for a chat and our excellent catering team provides an endless supply of refreshments, which always includes home-made cakes. T

community Hi everyone, I am writing this page whilst on holiday in Greece. The village I am staying also has its cat and dog problems. I am also involved with the groups of volunteers here that encounter the very same problems and are no different from any other town and village throughout Europe . What is important is that that there are people trying to make a difference even in small communities. Now, getting back to our Sanctuary, we were all so excited when we received a call from the Paul O’Grady show. We were asked if we would like to take a cute puppy down to the live show to promote our Sanctuary. Paul found our puppy so adorable that he decided to do the first part of the show with the puppy sat on his desk. So Amie and Louise who had taken the puppy to the studio didn’t get a look in! This was such a privilege for us and we received the most amazing publicity. We have now been open as a Sanctuary for 12 years and how things have changed. Through hard work and devotion our Sanctuary has been transformed from old garages, a cold running tap and a portal loo into the prince of facilities, with hot and cold water brick kennels, with under floor heating and a reception that we are all so proud of thanks to many donations and bequests. These projects would not have been possible without hard working volunteers using their building and decorating skills to help us create a safe and secure environment for our residents.
Finding a forever home
anyone that would like to volunteer, even for a few hours a week. We are really desperate for volunteers to man the shop. This would be in the Worksop area so please if you can spare a few hours call us . We have a vacancy for an experienced kennel assistant, however you must be willing to work rota weekends. Please call 01302 711330 and leave a message or bring you CV to the Sanctuary We need volunteers to stand outside Pets At Home or join our street collection in Doncaster on the 11th July. Our dog show is on the Recreation field up Tithes Lane, Tickhill on the 12 th July and we also need more volunteers to help on the day.
Junior has come into our care because his previous owner has had to move into rented accommodation and Junior wasn’t allowed to go. Its was a sad day when they had to part. Junior has had quite a stressful time lately. Previously a housecat, things are a little strange here and it has taken him a while to adjust. He is starting to gain his confidence now so his true personality will come shining through. Still prone to hissing when he feels threatened, he needs his new owners to be patient and give him time to become accustomed to his new surroundings at his own pace. The wait is worth it.
Thank you to everyone that has left dog food and blankets in my garage I am surprised every day by people’s generosity. We are still desperately in need of donations. If you would like to set up a direct debit of just £2 a month this would make such a difference and help enormously.
Whilst the weather is getting warmer the dogs are enjoying their early morning walks with our dog walker volunteers who do a great job. We try to make sure our dogs have at least 2 walks a day to keep them happy.
If you are considering looking for a cat or dog please come to see us we will be happy to have a chat and discuss which dog or cat would fit your life style .
If you are interested in dog walking please give us a call, we would need you to come on a Tuesday afternoon so we can carry out a health and safety talk then you could come along and walk to help keep our dogs happy.
Bye for now
We haven’t as yet made a decision on a shop and would still like to hear from

Cuckoo named Dawn Rose The first new Cuckoo boat to be built for over 80 years was officially named at Worksop Water Day. Cllr Sybil Fielding, the Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council, presided over a ceremony that included saying some traditional verses, pouring beer and throwing a mirror into the canal. This was the culmination of over a decade of planning, fund-raising and hard graft by a group of volunteers from the Chesterfield Canal Trust. Cuckoo boats were unique to the Chesterfield Canal. They never had engines, being horse drawn right up to the end of commercial working in the 1950s. They had a mast in order to sail when they ventured onto the River Trent. The last Cuckoo boat known to be in existence rotted away over 20 years ago. It was called Dawn. This gave the inspiration for the name of the new boat. The actual building work started four years ago. It was led by David Bownes who worked on Cuckoo boats as a young man, so he was one of the very few people alive - possibly the only one - with real working knowledge of their construction. The volunteers decided to do it the traditional way, so they used only hand tools. No power tools were used at any stage. Even the dead straight 25’ mast was carved out by hand. As the culmination of the naming ceremony, bunting was hoisted up the mast topped by a pennant bearing its name. T

GARDENING – A PHYSIOTHERAPY GUIDE Many of us love getting out in the garden during the summer months. Unfortunately, for some this will be spoiled by aches and pains. Common complaints associated with gardening include back pain, muscular strains and knee problems. Here are our top tips for reducing the risk of these problems occurring … Stay fit Working on your general fitness (especially through the winter) will help to keep your body conditioned to cope with the stress of gardening. Strength exercises can reduce knee strain and Pilates can improve the way you move so the risk of injury is reduced.
One in three women is affected at some point by bladder, pelvic floor or prolapse symptoms. Often very distressing, these problems WILL NOT improve without action & can get worse as you get older.
Ask for Jenny Blizard or Kate Stower who are specialists in Women’s Health Physiotherapy including bladder / bowel problems, ante-natal and post natal care, sexual problems, pelvic & lower back pain
Warm up Walking or jogging on the spot and some simple movements and stretches will prepare your body for activity. Lift and bend carefully If you are working at ground level, get down onto your knees (use a kneeling pad for extra comfort). Reduce the load where able and use the wheelbarrow for transportation. Don’t reach or lift at arms length. Ask yourself is the task a ‘2 man job’ and get help if it is. Take regular breaks Avoid prolonged periods of time (30 minutes) doing the same activity. Regularly changing the task you are doing helps to prevent overloading the body. Coping with symptoms If you do experience symptoms, don’t ignore it. Stop, take it easy for a few days and things should settle. If symptoms persist for more than a week, seek advice from a Physiotherapist so the problem can be quickly ‘nipped in the bud’!

Bawtry WI. At our May meeting Janet Stein gave us a very interesting and amusing talk about the history of Knickers. Illustrating her talk with actual garments that she has collected over the years. It was interesting to see how the garments have evolved over the years from their introduction in the 18th century, when women first started to wear them. Originally the garment consisted of two separate legs joined at the waist and were quite plain. Later they became decorated with lace and ribbons and were much fancier. Our competition winner this month was a member who created a “Knickerbocker Glory”. These were coloured briefs layered in a large glass and even had a cherry on the top. On Monday 8th June a few of the members had a social evening at The Ship in Bawtry. A meal & a quiz made a good night out. In June we are looking forward to hearing about complimentary therapy with Reiki & Reflexology. We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the New Hall, Bawtry. 7.15pm for 7.30pm. A warm welcome is waiting for visitors and new members. T

Painting a different picture of Positano Lee Jackson Report from
I am certainly not the first or the last person to buy a painting on a visit to Positano. The famous town itself and the surrounding Amalfi Coast are an artist’s delight so you can be sure to see beachside and street side sellers at every turn. Add to this the number of galleries amongst the various boutiques and souvenir shops and the options for buying art in Positano are more than plenty. My picture was from none of these places but a few words on the town before an explanation as to the fortuitous circumstances of my purchase. What is it about Italian places that attract the “timeless” tag? Venice, Garda, Portofino all in my book have that timeless quality and Positano fits right into the same bracket. Maybe it is that these locations retain the same essence and allure as they did a century ago. They may have many many more visitors cramming the streets but from the right vantage point the views remain the same as they did before anyone ever had the task of finding somewhere to park the cars! The fabric of Positano remains stubbornly Italian. While the rest of Europe craves the ubiquitous appeal of the boutique hotel and the growing fashion for the outdoor lounge Positano remains boldly true to its heritage. Our hotel, right by the beach front and clinging over five
of Bliss Travel floors to the hillside is adorned with antique furniture and a unique sophistication that is only possible when a sense of history is maintained. As the sun sets each evening the view of the shore and of the town implants a warm satisfaction that being on the Amalfi Coast lives up to the grandeur of the postcards and paintings. And it is due to the unique and quirky nature of both the town and the hotel that the story behind the very unique painting unfolds. As thunder threatens on our second day the town is hit with an interruption to its electricity. At this point the relatively small lift system is rendered non-operational and as chance would have it just as my wife is making her way to the fifth floor. The hotel switches to their generator for alternative power and my wife makes it safely to the pool area, but both shaken and stirred! As the lift story is relayed by the pool the sole audience is an American couple newly migrated to Italy. The conversation extends to mutual appreciation of Positano, followed by the fact that my wife and I have a travel company, and that I intend to write something of note for a
local publication. That something of note is intended to be my participation in a local cookery school but the conversation with Cheryl and Peter Reimold promise a much more unique opportunity. The story they tell is of a man known locally as “the Hermit of Positano”. A man who has for over 44 years lived a simple existence caring for the animals and the natural habitat in the Il Porto canyon close to the town. Gianni Menichetti is both an artist and a poet and manages to survive from his paintings which he sells from time to time to those that make his unlikely acquaintance. As chance would have it a meeting is arranged later that evening whereby I will get the chance to meet Gianni. Gianni is a quiet and gentle man as expected. He tells me his story of how he moved to Naples from Tuscany to study ancient scripture and became captivated by a young Australian artist called Vali Myers with whom he shared the canyon home until 2002.

BAWTRY RESIDENTS GROUP (BRG) The Sports & Gala Day was a great success for BRG. The tombola & raffle raised £169.55 which was fabulous. Throughout the course of the afternoon we also managed to spread the word about the group and gained more support for the creation of the Neighbourhood Plan for Bawtry. We would like to extend our thanks to BARS for agreeing to us running a tombola and raffle – apologies about any confusion that this may have caused for some people. Also a big thank you to everyone who helped and supported us at the event, to those who donated prizes, and to the ladies who organised the children’s races. All your inputs were greatly appreciated. The winning raffle ticket numbers were: 1st prize (£100 voucher for The Crown Hotel) - White No. 218 2nd prize (£50 voucher for Ziniz) - Pink No. 44 3rd prize (£50 voucher for The Crown Hotel) - White No. 150 4th prize (£50 voucher for The Crown Hotel) - Pink No. 10 5th prize (£25 Wilfreda Beehive travel voucher) - White No. 235 6th prize (£10 Timber Joint voucher) - Pink No. 88 BRG was formed at the end of 2014 to work alongside the Bawtry Town Council (BTC) and the Bawtry Retail Association (BRA) and act as a ‘voice’ for Bawtry residents on issues they feel need addressing including parking, routing of HGV’s through the town, pedestrian crossings and planning. It is believed that there is a need to actively engage with the community and to effect the necessary improvements in the town for the benefit of all. BRG, in conjunction with the Town Council, 30
Bawtry Today
will continue with its attempts to facilitate these actions. Perhaps, in the future, these community relationships may be developed in other ways. The development of a Neighbourhood Plan for Bawtry presents an ideal opportunity to bring the community together and seek the views of residents and businesses within the town. Please ensure that you complete the questionnaire you have received through your letterbox. If you haven’t received a copy, they are available in the Library. So far returns are slow. It would be greatly appreciated if you could all make the effort to get them returned to the Library by the first week of July – remember this is to give you an opportunity to retain or change current features of Bawtry. A current initiative for the Group is the speed limits and traffic calming measures on the major routes through the town. Two specific issues are the extension of the 30 mph limit on Doncaster Road (as far as the town boundary) and the provision of a pelican crossing, and reduced speed limit, on Station Road in the vicinity of Mayflower School. We are working in conjunction with BTC and residents to petition for a crossing due to the number of near misses pedestrians are having with motor vehicles – in particular children crossing during peak school times. The petition is being circulated around Bawtry asking residents to sign so we can address DMBC on this issue. We have the backing of Caroline Flint MP and our local Ward Member, Rachael Blake. We will be involving the local press and campaigning vigorously to get some appropriate action on this matter. BRG is steadily growing in numbers, and meets on a bi-monthly basis (on the last Thursday of the month). The next meeting will be on 30 July at 7:30 pm in the Crown Hotel (Leger Suite). If you are a Bawtry resident and care about your town, then please come along to the meetings. Let’s start working together!

Misson In Action! The Misson Community Action Group, in association with Bassetlaw Against Fracking, Frack Free Nottinghamshire, Frack Free Lincolnshire and Frack Free South Yorkshire held a “Frack Free Parade” from Bawtry to Misson on Sunday May 31st. The purpose of the Parade was to raise awareness of the potential threat of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) in the area, to voice opposition and to enable the community to make a public statement. In a recent survey, 81% of Misson residents contacted were opposed to fracking and they sent a very strong message that they will do everything in their power to stop fracking in Misson Springs. The event was well supported with nearly 200 people attending from all over the country. John Mann our local MP joined us in Misson and made a very supportive speech to the assembled crowd. IGas Energy PLC are preparing to submit a planning application for 2 exploratory wells in Misson Springs at the end of June. Large areas of North Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire have already been licensed to gas corporations for exploration and development involving fracking for shale gas or coal bed methane extraction. The whole of the area is now up for licensing. Fracking poses many potential threats to the environment and public health and increasing
36
Bawtry Today
evidence from the USA and Australia corroborates this. People are concerned about contamination of water, air and soil due to the process and about increasing traffic levels leading to industrialisation of the countryside. The government’s plan to “go all out for shale” will mean that the UK will most likely not achieve its climate change targets. We believe that there should be a moratorium on fracking until the risks are fully researched and assessed. Misson, or indeed any other rural community, should not become guinea pigs for the process. In March 2015 Medact published a report ‘Health & Fracking: The impacts & opportunity costs’, in which they concluded, “On the basis of our existing knowledge, it would be both prudent and responsible to call for, at the very least, a five year moratorium on all activities related to shale gas development.” Gas companies want to exploit the whole of our area to recover the maximum amount of gas and that will require many well pads and large numbers of wells. Many rural villages including Misson could potentially be in the middle of a gas field in the future. It all starts with just one well. 3 reasons why yoga can help with your lower back pain and sciatica. Many of my students have back problems. Almost everyone suffers from back pain at one time or another but as we get older, back pain, particularly lower back pain, and related conditions such as sciatica, can cause us real problems in terms of mobility. It’s not just the lack of mobility - it’s the sometimes excruciating pain and frustration we feel when we can’t do simple things like put on our shoes or get in and out of the car. Most of us know gentle exercise is better than rest, which physicians now know simply causes us to seize up even further. So your GP is likely to prescribe gentle exercise and pain killers, so you can allow the body to move without wincing too much. Your doctor may also suggest a couple of sessions with a physiotherapist to help get you started and learn which movements are helpful and which to avoid. However, easing the pain so you can move more easily isn’t just what this is all about. Strengthening the core muscles which support the spine is important if you want to help protect your spine from further injury or other problems in the future. 3 reasons why yoga can help: 1. Yoga helps improve the underlying causes of the back pain. Unless your condition is the result of a fall or other trauma, it is highly likely that poor posture, muscle tightness and/or muscle weakness will have made you more susceptible to back problems. There are some simple yoga exercises, which, if you did them even for just a few minutes a day, would build strength and more flexibility in your lower back area, so you would be less susceptible in future.
2. Yoga movements improve the circulation in the spine Moving the spine gently through systematic stretching, bending and twisting, helps compress the spine disks, bringing them the fresh oxygen and other nutrients they need to remain healthy and pain free. 3. Yoga helps raise your awareness and improve your posture We’ve already said poor posture can be an underlying cause of back problems. From watching TV slumped on the sofa to how we wash the dishes - this repeated poor alignment of the spine eventually weakens and puts pressure on the lower back area in particular, making us more likely to develop problems later on. Yoga encourages you to do the exercises mindfully, and become more aware of your posture so you find you start to change those bad habits and spend more time holding your spine in a way which will help strengthen and support you, rather than weaken you.
All for as little as 20 minutes a day. Isn’t it worth it?

Water without the guilt...
Plants for Dry Spaces Alliums - the huge ones look great Cistus - Rock Rose Euphorbia - my favourite, very architectural Helianthemum - Sun Rose Lavender - plant near patios for the fragrance Santolina Sedum - almost indestructible! Senecio - the sunshine plant Thyme
But nowadays hosepipes are the horticultural equivalent of a bad taste joke: out of style and somewhat frowned upon.
However, if you want to make the most of your saved water then irrigation systems are the best choice. They typically reduce the amount of water you use by 70-90%, which is a huge saving. Here are a few tips for getting the best from an irrigation system.
But gardens need water to survive so what can we do? Well the truth is, we have more than enough water in the UK to sustain an average garden, but it tends to fall in the winter when all the plants are dormant.
Ground preparation is really important. Dig in lots of home-produced compost, well rotted horse manure, or spent mushroom compost. This organic matter will help the soil retain any moisture it receives.
A water butt is a simple, economical solution for most urban gardens. Butts will catch the rainwater from your gutter and store it until it’s required. They typically hold between 100 and 300 litres depending on size.
Make sure the irrigation lines run under the tips of the branches rather than at the base of the plant. This will water the roots more efficiently.
Who remembers their dad hosing the garden on warm summer evenings? We always seemed to have a lush lawn when I was a child, apart from the summer of 1976 when hosepipes were banned and we all used stand-pipes for weeks.
You can now buy huge rainwater tanks which hold up 1000 litres and are great if you have the space. There are also underground storage tanks which hold over 2500 litres! With special attachments, stored rainwater can be fed into hoses and sprinklers, so you can use them guilt-free. 42

Make sure you mulch. Mulch can be a membrane, gravel, bark chips or cocoa shells. The aim is to keep moisture in the soil. I favour organic mulches because they gradually rot down and can be dug in to improve the soil texture further. A few simple measures will ensure that your garden stays green this summer without costing the earth!
Enjoy your garden. TO ADVERTISE CALL 01302 744278

Hello and Thank you from Councillor Rachael Blake I am one of your 3 DMBC ward councillors, and through Bawtry Today I will keep you informed about the work I am doing, what is going to be happening in Bawtry and Austerfield , the concerns residents have raised and what I have done to address those concerns. Firstly I would like to thank everyone I spoke to during the election campaign, and thank you to everyone who voted in both the local and national elections and voted for me and my Labour colleagues. The number of people who voted in the ward was fantastic with our ward having one of the highest turnout rates, which was why our results was one of the last to be announced, with Clive, John and I elected as your 3 councillors for the ward. I was delighted to be elected and will spend the next two years working hard to make Bawtry and Austerfield an even better to place to live, work and visit. Since May 8 I have been getting to know the town as a councillor, rather than as a resident of Bawtry where I have lived for the last 6 years. I have been attending Bawtry Town Council and Austerfield Parish Council meetings, meeting with many committed and fantastic volunteers and getting to know concerns that residents have. I attended the Sports Day and supported the Residents Group to ask residents and people who work in Bawtry to complete their questionnaires for the consultation on the Neighbourhood Plan. If you haven't completed your questionnaire yet, please do - the Plan is a great opportunity for us all to say how we want to see Bawtry develop. Also, I have been arranging and having meetings with people who provide services such as DMBC and South Yorkshire Police so I can get problems solved quickly when I get complaints about things. I have contacted South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive about the stopping of the bus service in Austerfield, met with DMBC Highways staff about the need for a crossing on Station Road and had a really useful walk around Bawtry with DMBCs planning and conservation officers, understanding what planning has happened and what is currently being considered. One of the promises we made in our election leaflet was to hold regular surgeries throughout the ward in venues and times that are accessible for all residents, listen to

residents’ concerns and deal with them. I am keen to have my surgeries where people are already going so thank you very much to Austerfield Study Centre and the Bawtry Community Library who are happy that I have my surgeries at the same time as Austerfield's Community Shop and Bawtry Library's Coffee morning. My surgeries will be 2nd Friday of every month from 10am - 12pm in Bawtry Community Library - I will be in the back room so please ask Library volunteers where you can find me Last Saturday of every month from 10am - 12pm at Austerfield Study Centre Please come along and tell me your concerns or complaints, or to ask me about DMBC services or policies or to tell me what you would like to see happening in the area. Please don't wait to come to my surgeries - you can contact me anytime by phone or email. Introducing... the tree bumblebee Bombus Hypnorum this little chap with a white furry bottom is particularly active now, and a small number of them are probably doing figures of eight by your garage roof, or outside a nesting box on your apple trees.... I've had 3 calls about them this week and I am not even on the Councils’ list of bee-keepers to call! ...if you have them, don't worry. They are not interested in you, these are the drones on the lookout for a queen... they are relatively benign and if you try and move them you will kill them. Come the end of July the whole colony except the queens die off. The queens hibernate until March. Honey bees are the only bees to go through the winter as a colony. Have a look at British beekeepers website to help identify bees. http://www.bbka.org.uk/help/do_you_ have_a_swarm.php If you ring the council with a problem about bees they will give you the phone number of one of the members of Doncaster Beekeepers association. They get a lot of calls, and if it is a genuine swarm of honey bees will be happy to help as long as they aren’t somewhere inaccessible like a chimney or at the top of an enormous tree. The council (because of the cuts) have no one to deal with bees now. So please take some time and properly identify your bees before making that phone call. Bumble bees are a protected species. Enjoy them. T 54

Tickhill and Bawtry Probus Club Summer is here, the sun is shining (well sometimes anyway), weeds are growing faster than plants in the garden and all those outside jobs which you have been able to put off during the winter now need doing. Surely retirement was never meant to be like this, all work with none of the social contact you enjoyed during your working life? Well it isn’t! Tickhill and Bawtry Probus Club won’t get the garden done or the house painted for you but at the Millstone Hotel Tickhill on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month it will provide retired professional and businessmen with the social contact so necessary for a balanced life in retirement. We meet at 10.00am for coffee followed by a speaker after which many of us can be found downstairs in the bar; lunch is also available for those who wish. Come and visit us as a guest one morning and see if you can resist the urge to join – more than 80 people have so far succumbed! Our programme for the next three months is as follows: 9th July. “Growing up in the NCH -2”. David Green 23rd July. “Skeleton and heroes” Mark Cox 13th Aug. “King Richard 111; the man behind the myth. Jean Townsend 27th Aug. “Chemistry” Prof. Charles Stirling 10th Sept. “Doncaster Rugby League” Stuart Piper 24th Sept. Ladies Lunch (Members and partners only) Something here for everybody, plus of course the social contact. T

Newsletter Bawtry Town Council - JULY 2015
We welcome back previous councillors and also newly elected councillors to the council and will ensure that all are supported into their new roles. We also welcome new Ward Councillors who represent Bawtry & Rossington. They will attend BTC meetings and assist with dialogue with DMBC.

The local Sports Day on Saturday 6th June, organised by BARS, was a success and well attended despite the strong winds during the day. This was followed on Sunday 7th June by the Town Service organised by Bawtry Churches together which again was well attended. The council was represented by Cllrs Young, Hutt, Linsley, Kirkham and Holland.
Bawtry War Memorial We have set up a working group to plan the possible relocation of the war memorial to a safer site rather than the present site on the Great North Road on the western approach to Bawtry
Neighbourhood Plan The town council has been advised that Doncaster Met Borough Council will be employing a School Crossing patrol near to the Mayflower School, subject to the usual checks being completed. The town council has been pressing for this for some time. We have had representation from a group of concerned residents regarding the traffic situation on Station Road following the decision of DMBC not to install a Pelican crossing to protect children and adults alike. We have advised that a petition should be raised to press for this to be reversed and would encourage residents to support it. Copies can be found in local shops. BTC supports this and other actions to make Bawtry safer Following an application for the Station Hotel to be demolished this was granted despite many objections from residents. Following the vandalism to the Gainsborough Road toilets the council has decided to remove 56

Bawtry Town Council have sponsored a group to develop a Neighbourhood Plan which would give our community better control of planning decisions within the Bawtry area. The group has produced a short questionnaire which can be found in the community library and residents are encouraged to complete it with their views and submit it to the group via the library. If you are interested in becoming involved with this plan please contact David Kirkham, contact details at the end of this newsletter.
Our meetings Residents and businesses are welcome to attend BTC meetings and there is a 15 minute time frame for specific questions to be put to council. Please come along and get involved. If you have any problems with the roads or pavements around Bawtry you can contact highways at DMBC on 736000. TO ADVERTISE CALL 01302 744278

Methodist Minister Dear Friends, Everyone has been wounded in the past. It is therefore no surprise to us that most of us would want to have a time of healing in our lives. Healing takes a lot of patience and a lot of time – days, weeks, months and sometimes years. Spiritual healing is similar to healing from a deep wound. It starts from the inside and ends on the outside. Thus, it may be difficult to see the steady healing process in our lives. We only need to believe that the mending process is taking place. Most of us forget to thank God when we are mended. Psalms 103: 1 - 5 below suggest that we praise God for healing us:
sources of hope and healing. Let me not forget all that remains for me as I ponder what has gone from my life. Be my vision and my strength. Anoint me with the oil of your love and take my hand as I move forward into ever greater healing”. – Joyce Rupp Have a blessed month.
Rev. Dr. Frank Okai-Sam Methodist Minister for Adwick-le-Street, Auckley, Bawtry, Harworth, Rossington, Sprotbrough, Sprotbrough Road and Tickhill Tel. E-mail:
“Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits - who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (New International Version). How often do you say thanks for having your body and spirit mended? It’s time to start. However, as you wait for healing in your life, there is also the need to play your part. Joyce Rupp, in her book, “The cup of our life. A guide to spiritual growth’, suggests that in order to be mended sometimes, you need to: o Identify and work with your emotions o Have compassion with yourself and others o Let go of your resistances o Trust and yield to God o Receive support from others o Extend and receive forgiveness o Take good care of your body and spirit I wonder if you can take sometime and work through the list above. It will do your body and spirit some good and bring healing. Here is a suggested prayer you would want to say after you have worked through: ‘God of healing, help me to mend the broken places in my life. Direct my mind and heart to
