“Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact”. William James
With further changes to our education system, in particular the proposed reintroduction of Grammar Schools once again placing education standards in the spotlight, it made a refreshing change to speak with Teen Motivator Kevin Mincher this week. His work revolves around our young people needing not only academic lessons, but also lessons in life, happiness, resilience, and confidence building. I look forward to hearing more from Kevin as he works with staff, parents and students to ensure students develop a positive mindset to assist them in the ever changing world. I mentioned at this time last year that I am always just a little bit sad as the nights begin to draw in. Another summer having passed by, without me managing to spend as much time enjoying the outdoors as I had planned to! This year the plentiful late summer sunshine has stopped me noticing the evenings drawing in quite so much, and the addition of our little puppy to the family has definitely meant that I have spent more time outside. The November issues will be delivered to you late October. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Friday 7th October. Please note that this is actually the first Friday of the month and the closing date is usually the 2nd Friday so don’t get caught out by the early close caused by needing the magazines to be with distributors before lots of them disappear on half term holidays! Enjoy October and I will be back in a months’ time with your November magazine.
Best wishes,
Paula x

Bawtry Residents Group An extraordinary Bawtry Town Council meeting took place on the 17th of August, the meeting was called due to the lease for the memorial sports ground needing to be discussed and agreed to enable BARS to progress with the construction of the new pavilion. Disappointingly the public were excluded from the meeting following a vote by Councillors. However, it was good to see that half the Councillors present voted for the public to remain and that the vote had to be decided by the casting vote of the chair. Further updates will be forthcoming in the next edition in September as construction should be underway. Again this month (August) Bawtry is blighted by a serious and concerning amount of burglaries and attempted garage break ins, I have no doubt that if South Yorkshire police were to attend either the next meeting of the BTC or BRG a few very awkward questions would be put forward by the disgruntled residents of this town. Please all take care that all windows and doors are locked, especially the down stairs. Another delightful day at the end of August was the Classic, Historic and Supercar pageant, the cars on display were of top quality this coupled with a good attendance made it a great day out for all, residents, retailers and non-residents alike. Meet The Mayor, The mayor of Doncaster Cllr Ros Jones is holding a one-to-one meeting at Bawtry library on the 12th of January 2017 between 9am12pm. Please contact Charlotte Turner on 01302736405 or email meetthemayor@doncaster.gov. uk to arrange. A thank you to Bawtry Library for allowing the residents of Bawtry to use your premises to collect the data for the selection of the proposed new road signs for Bawtry. Hopefully a final decision will be made at the next BTC meeting; also Cllr Dickenson should be mentioned for all her hard work put in to this project. 10 BAWTRY TODAY
A thorny issue raised was the proposed new 105 homes to be constructed in Bawtry, in the last issue of Bawtry Neighbourhood Plan Newsletter, the construction of the houses will be over the next 15 years. Please look at www.bawtryneighbourhoodplan. org.uk, for information regarding this project, the next Neighbourhood Meeting will be on the 28th September in the new hall and all are welcome. A good source of information regarding the construction of any type will either be in the Bawtry today magazine or at Bawtry Town Library. Please see below the training flights slots that have been preliminary booked by easyJet for the period 20/09/2016 to 12/10/2016. Estimated arrival 10am, estimated departure 3.30pm. Please note that training by easy Jet may not necessarily occur on each slot booked due to a range of factors including weather and availability of the aircraft and crew. Dates: 20/09, 21/09, 27/09, 28/09, 04/10, 05/10, 11/10, 12/10 To be discussed at the next meeting:• Involvement of residents regarding the Neighbourhood plan • Construction of new housing in Bawtry, Re:- the 105 proposed new houses • Traffic & Parking • Highways & General Appearance of the Town • General condition of pathways, Overhanging trees and shrubs • Changing nature of the Town, be it day or night time The next Meeting of the BRG will take place on the 24th of November at 7.30pm in the Crown Hotel, Bawtry. Please come along as nothing will change in Bawtry without strong voices, which certainly makes a stronger community. Many thanks to Mr Craig Dowie for the use of the room and refreshments supplied.

Incidentally there are lots of art –making courses going on this autumn, The Hub in Retford runs regular courses and more can be found in the Doncaster area, so just because its October and you may have missed the first session of an ‘autumn term’ go and join in, there really is nothing like having-a-go and getting-dirt-under-your-fingernails. contemporary art of women for over 20 years. She sees herself as championing the gender in-balance. ‘And about time’ I hear you all say, and I couldn’t agree more, but if this is your mission you have a duty to that gender to collect and then exhibit good stuff. Much of this work looked like it may have been produced on an Art Foundation course. It was poorly made for one thing, and much of it dull. However there were two works which were so powerful as to knock the rest of it into a cocked hat, both were dealing with realm of abuse, brilliantly executed, completely compelling and powerful. So where were the powerful works that dealt with other aspects of women’s lives? www.museums-sheffield.org.uk Chatsworth Sculpture until 30 October ‘Sotheby’s Beyond Limits’. During October there is a tremendous selection of shows from The Merchant of Venice to something called ‘You forgot the Mince’. There’s comedy, highbrow, music and take-part events. www. castindoncaster.com Yorkshire Sculpture Park until 2 January ‘’Not Vital’’ (that’s his name) Internationally renowned (I’ve never heard of him either) sculptor’s first major exhibition in the UK. With studios in the Swiss village of Sent and Beijing, China, as well as homes in Rio de Janeiro and Niger, (I wonder why we need to know this? instantly my ire is up, first a pretentious name, then a seemingly jetset practice) the exhibition reflects Vital’s nomadic and diverse practice, including paintings and works on paper, indoor pieces made from plaster, silver, gold, marble, glass and coal, and outdoor sculptures in stainless steel and bronze. So apart from an artist with a confusing name what will you see? …. Community decorations which have been on display since August! And, we hope you have saved the date for Bawtry Christmas Time! Just to remind you it’s on Sunday 20th November and will take place between 12 noon and 6pm. It’s shaping up to be a really fantastic event for all the family.
Bawtry Retail Association It’s been a great summer in Bawtry and as the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival drew to a conclusion it felt like autumn was on its way. It was another fantastic few days of racing and our warmest congratulations go to Maria Gledhill and Jack Parks who won the Best Dressed Lady and Gentleman respectively and won amazing prizes including £500 of Bawtry Retail Association shopping vouchers each.
Plans are already well underway to ensure the Christmas event is quite simply the best yet! Building on the success of the last few years there will be lots to keep all members of the family entertained at this year’s Christmas event. Market stalls, traditional carousel, fairground rides, Father Christmas, live music around the town, climbing wall, Christmas food stalls and a free park and ride service are just some of the annual attractions and, of course, the unveiling of the famous Womack’s Christmas window. Please continue to support your local town by shopping and socialising locally.
Keeping on the style stakes, it is with much excitement that the Robinsons of Bawtry Annual Charity Fashion show takes place on Sunday 2nd October 2016 at China Rose. It’s an iconic event in the local social scene and the sell out event is set to be super special as the boutique celebrates 30 years in business.
Don’t forget that you can find out lots of information from our website www. visitbawtry.com, follow us on Twitter @ visitbawtry and like us on Facebook / bawtryretailassociation T
The team at Limited 2 Art has settled into their fantastic new premises and they were delighted to welcome multi award winning artist Kerry Darlington to the gallery last month. And they are proud to announce that on Saturday 1st October Doncaster born David Smith will be showcasing ‘It’s a Dog’s Life’ and on the 22nd October US Artist Chris De Rubeis will visit the gallery during his first UK tour.

Misson & Springs WI A beautiful late summer evening, a buzz in the hall, holiday tales exchanged, updates on children, grandchildren and spouses, three most welcome guests and quietly and busily setting up an impressive display was our speaker, Judy Colby. Back by popular request, Judy gave a fascinating talk at our August meeting, entitled From Rags to Riches: Producing Costumes on a Shoestring. Judy is well versed in all aspects of the plays for which she is asked to produce costumes and is a fund of knowledge of the period in which the plays are set; she knows how to avoid every pitfall of style and pattern, and is ever on the lookout for suitable materials from the grandest brocades to the humblest button. As Judy described the lengths to which she had gone to source fabrics and patterns, she was able to show us the finished articles eliciting many an ooh and an aah from a very appreciative audience. Perhaps the least glamorous costume, but no less interesting, was the wedding day set of combinations created for Willie Mossop in Hobson’s Choice - made from a roll of dishcloth stockinette! We shall all certainly look at theatre costume in a different light from now on. Our autumn programme will begin with James Pogson talking about - and encouraging us to taste - Fairtrade Tea. Spotlight on Rose Farm Situated in a peaceful, rural hamlet with views of open fields to the front and rear, Rose Farm has the perfect setting for a residential home.
This allows us to ensure that Rose Farm can continually meet both our residents’ needs and improve their quality of life.
It stands on the main road through Styrrup nestled between Bawtry and Tickhill. With good access from the motorways for visitors from further afield. The buildings have been thoughtfully and attractively converted from barns and by retaining their original features and character we have managed to create a warm, homely and comfortable environment for our clients.
Dementia Care Our Garden wing is a purpose built Dementia Unit with its own sensory garden. We understand that there is no one size fits all solution to supporting people with dementia and that it should never prevent anyone from leading a full and active life.
The care that we offer is entirely focused on the careful evaluation of a resident’s changing needs. An individually tailored, detailed plan of how care will be delivered is agreed at the outset and reviewed regularly with the resident, ensuring understanding and inspiring confidence.
Everyone in the care team recognises, supports and celebrates each person’s individuality. They receive training through our bespoke dementia care programmes and have regular refresher courses thereafter.

Brenda & Victoria
Caring through Sharing
Brenda Bettinson shares her home with Victoria, a young lady with a care need, who lives with Brenda as part of a scheme called Shared Lives. Brenda, who also provides foster care, has looked after Victoria within her home for almost two years now – providing foster care up to the age of 18, following which she wanted to ensure Victoria could remain in the family environment they had created. To do this Brenda became a Shared Lives Carer, under a scheme delivered by Doncaster charity The Avalon Group. Shared Lives offers adults with a wide range of disabilities and mental health issues the chance to become part of an extended family by living in the home of a trained carer. For those participating in the scheme this can be either on a long or short term basis, with options for day breaks and respite relief. For Victoria it means the ability to live a fulfilled life with people whom she loves and can share experiences. Just this summer Brenda took Victoria to the Fusion Festival in Liverpool for her birthday, where they both indulged their love of music, and in particular Olly Murs, whom Victoria says was “definitely the best”. Brenda and her husband Alan have provided a home and a level of support that means Victoria has flourished in ways which a residential care setting may not have been able to achieve. The Avalon Group, who runs the scheme in Doncaster, is appealing to local residents who may be interested in becoming carers to join up this month, in association with National Shared Lives Week which takes place between the 17th and 23rd October. Doncaster Shared Lives Manager Alison Bradley said: “You don’t need any experience to become a carer, as people come from all walks of life. If you’re a caring person with room to spare in your home, we’d love to hear from you.”

Misson Pre School Misson Pre-school reopened its doors to children from ages 2-5 once again this September, with an exciting programme of learning and experiences planned for the coming year. North Notts Makaton Choir North Notts Makaton Choir is an all inclusive local community choir, based at Goodwin Hall in Retford, which is for everyone, whatever their musical ability. It is run by regional Makaton tutor and musician Rachel Downs who is not only passionate about enjoyment through music, but realises the need for Makaton to be used as a communication tool to provide fun, inclusive opportunities for everyone.
The facility is run by long-serving and experienced staff, who will be delighted to meet with new parents to show off the environment during our open afternoon. Call in to chat with the manager and her team from 2pm-3pm on 19th October. Funded places are available now for children from 2 years old. Call 01302 710325 or log on to www.preschoolmisson.co.uk for more information or to discuss your own child’s needs. T
As Rachel said, ‘I feel that real inclusion and integration of all children and adults in the local community, irrespective of their various needs, is not happening comprehensibly’. Therefore, the North Notts Makaton Choir provides a unique opportunity, accessible to everyone, which encourages children and adults to take part in singing and signing with the emphasis on fun in a safe, welcoming environment. As Emma-Louise Baker (aged 14), a regular member of the choir says, ‘It’s for all ages and abilities. If you cannot sing don’t worry, you can learn to sign. Music makes you happy and cheerful. Come and join us and have some fun. All welcome. I think choir is awesome, brilliant and fantastic! Hello from Mayflower Sanctuary, Unfortunately we have had a very challenging couple of weeks. At least 60% of our dogs came down with a mystery infection and 16 had to be hospitalised on drips. This has been a very stressful time for us all, however fingers crossed there have been no new cases in 6 days and all have responded well to treatment. A very big thank you to Balby Vets on Springwell Lane, also Dowdings in Gainsborough without your help and understanding we are sure we would not have been able to come through this harrowing time unscathed . Our Sanctuary was closed for two weeks as a precaution so we really sorry for the inconvenience this caused everyone but we needed to keep the infection contained. So far the Vet’s bills are well over £3,000 and rising. Obviously if anyone wishes to make a donation to help us that would be wonderful. If you would like to take a look at our Face Book page we have an appeal on the Just Giving site. We recently had a Yard/Table top sale and raised nearly £500 which was a brilliant result and will help towards the recent vets bills. The Table top is held on the last Sunday in the month, the next ones being 25th September and 30th October from 10 am until 12pm. A student special day will be included on this date too, refreshments will be available with yummy homemade cakes, so come along and bag a bargain . A big thank you for everyone that contributed to-wards this amazing total and we hope to see you again soon.
Finding a forever home Name: Charley Sex: Female Date into care: April 2016 Age: 7 Good with dogs: No Good with cats: No Good with children: Older I originally came into care when my Mum and Dad decided that they couldn’t live together anymore. It was a very sad day when she brought me here and then left me behind. I was luckily rehomed quite quickly and I settled into my new home just fab. Unfortunately things went badly wrong when I scratched the toddler. After that she was scared of me and so here I am looking again for a new family to love.
We will also be back fund raising at M&S on Wheatley Hall Road in October so watch out for us and say hello. 6 beautiful puppies have been brought to us via the police, there has been an ongoing cruelty court case and they needed the puppies as evidence, however they have just released them and they are now ready for rehoming. As all puppies they are very playful and bouncy and just waiting for their forever loving home. Please be aware we do not rehome puppies with children under 5 years of age. As with all our dogs we would also need your fence to be at least 5ft high with a secure locked gate. A big thank you to Worksop Wheelers Mark and Andy they raised a whopping £1115 for our Charity you are amazing guys. We hope everyone has enjoyed their summer break and hope to see you all soon.

Be Gracious in Gratitude Dear Friends,
I wonder if I can remind you that we are in the harvest season. One of the things people who lead ordinary lives do is to be thankful at all times. They are thankful to God for providing their needs and are thankful to people who are channels of such provisions. Talking of thanking God, I am reminded of the words of the Psalmist in the book of Psalms Chapter 103 versus 1 to 5 and 8 to 12: “O my soul, bless God. From head to toe, I’ll bless his holy name! O my soul, bless God; don’t forget a single blessing! He forgives your sins - every one. He heals your diseases - every one. He redeems you from hell - saves your life! He crowns you with love and mercy - a paradise crown. He wraps you in goodness - beauty eternal. He renews your youth - you’re always young in his presence.
time off this month and thank or pray for farmers and agricultural workers, packers, and distributors. You may also thank and pray for those engaged in research who safeguard crops and animals against disease and develop new plant species. I wonder if I can also remind you to thank and pray the government and aid agencies. The list goes on so please forgive me if I have missed some. As people who live ordinary lives, harvest is also a time to reflect on the amount of food waste we generate as individuals, communities and a country. I wonder if you can use this harvest season to be gracious and cut the amount of waste in your fridge and home. This will be part of your thanks to the people who help put food on your table. Finally, not everyone has enjoyed a good harvest this year. In some parts of the world, harvests have been poor, crops have withered, and some people are starving from hunger. As you give thanks for a good harvest, I wonder if you can go a step further to help out those in unfortunate situations, both in this country and beyond. For example, the food bank near you is craving for donations and the homeless person on the street that you pass by each week needs food and warmth.
God is sheer mercy and grace; not easily angered, he’s rich in love. He doesn’t endlessly nag and scold, nor hold grudges forever. He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve, nor pay us back in full for our wrongs. As high as heaven is over the earth, so strong is his love to those who fear him. And as far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins.
In effect, as you celebrate harvest during this month, I wonder if you can take some time to thank God for providing your needs and thank the people who have become agents of your provisions. In your thanksgiving, do not forget to cut out waste and help the underprivileged as well.
As parents feel for their children, God feels for those who fear him.” (The Message)
Rev. Dr. Frank Okai-Sam
Each of us therefore has at least one reason to thank God for our lives and wealth. Secondly, talking of thanking people at harvest time, I wonder if you can take some 30 BAWTRY TODAY

The My Guide service has continued to grow in recent years, and we have people in South Yorkshire waiting to use the service now. Our volunteers are carefully matched and help on a one-to-one basis. Their input can help someone with sight loss gain more confidence and freedom. The role requires two full days’ training initially and we request a DBS check. We provide support throughout, and reimburse all out-of-pocket expenses. It’s a great way to meet new people, make friends and make a real difference to someone in your community. For more information, email volunteer@ guidedogs.org.uk, or call Louise Mullen for an informal chat on 0845 372 7424. Alternatively please visit www.guidedogs.org.uk/myguide. T

Pastors Page What do Easter, Valentine’s Day, pillows in fancy hotels, 7th July and ancient Mayans have in common? Many enjoy drinking it hot, though I think it tastes best solid straight from the fridge; it was used as money by the aforementioned Mayans, we buy it as pretend money for Christmas stockings; it is completely unnecessary to us yet every Briton spends c.£60/ year on it. It is generally considered bad for you, though its purer forms are healthy. It is a universal symbol of decadence, has been used as a cure for hangovers though more commonly as a children’s treat. It is eaten covered in sugar as well as part of a chili sauce in Mexico. Worldwide, this industry is worth c.£50 billion a year. We buy chocolate to say “I love you”, “I’m sorry” and “Get well soon”, to cheer us up when feeling miserable, for an energy boost, to warm us on a winter’s night. Could you imagine life without chocolate? If you had to decide between never eating chocolate again or fruit, which would you choose? We know we should go for fruit over chocolate, but the next time you reach for a snack will it be for a banana or a Bounty? Be honest. Chocolate is so much part of our national psyche partly because three 19th century Quakers, John Cadbury, Joseph Rowntree and Joseph Fry started various brands for the mass market as an alternative to the high levels of alcohol abuse in their day. They also pursued the ideal of making money while treating their workers fairly, with honour even. Their businesses were highly successful and they 34 BAWTRY TODAY
became known as great philanthropists. As Quakers, Cadbury, Rowntree & Fry, amongst other great industrialists of their day; were members of a tiny religious minority (0.1% of the population) and they declared openly that their humanitarian attitudes were because of their faith. They valued all, regardless of social standing or ethnicity, because they were convinced each person is made equal by virtue of the fact that everyone is made by God, in the image of God. Society was very happy to accept them and their unorthodox theology because they were such positive influences, both businesswise and socially. We remember that their day was as stricken by terrorism as ours is; anarchists who were very happy to die in the name of their cause. I find myself challenged to accept that people who hold very different theology, contrary even, to mine can be far better community builders than me and as a committed Christian I need to encourage them in that, even if I disagree with their religious convictions. All this thinking is hurting my brain, I need a sugar boost. Time for a piece of chocolate orange. Bawtry Evangelical Church T

By Rachel Leverton
This month... Spring into action! Planting daffodils is one of my favourite jobs, though it is tinged with a bit of sadness that summer is now truly over. So planting these sunny yellow flowers is a good way of looking forward to the spring. When I had my very first garden I planted loads of daffodils and had a wonderful display the first year. I congratulated myself that all my hard work was worth it because now I would have a fantastic display for years to come. The second year however I had loads of foliage but just a few flowers. I learned that I had not planted my bulbs deep enough...classic novice error! Bulbs which are too close to the soil surface are subject to drought as soon as the sun begins to shine. They simply don’t get enough moisture or sustenance. It’s the leaves, which remain after the flowers, that pass food to the bulbs as they die back, so the bulbs can store enough nutrients to produce flowers again the following year. Daffodil bulbs need to be planted at least 15cm / 6 inches deep, and don’t cut the foliage back after the flowers have died for at least 6 weeks (another novice error!). In order to produce the best possible display the following year, once the foliage has faded sprinkle some general fertiliser around the plants. When planting for the first time, clumps look best in the average suburban garden. I plant eight to ten bulbs in a round group spaced about 8cm / 3 inches apart. I dig a hole wide and deep enough to accommodate the 36 BAWTRY TODAY
whole group, firm the earth back into place and (really important) label the spot! That way I avoid spearing the bulbs when I’m digging while they are dormant. If you want early flowers then go for short stems as they survive frost better. The bright yellow ‘Tête-à-tête’ is the perfect partner for late snowdrops. I love ‘Jenny’, which has pale yellow trumpets that gradually fade to white, and ‘Trevithian’ which is a lovely yellow and quite graceful. ‘Thalia’ and ‘Pipit’ are both good laterflowering daffs, and I have a soft spot for ‘Hawera’, which is a soft yellow and multiheaded. The latter looks amazing in a blue pot underplanted with white Pulmonaria angustifolia ‘Sissinghurst White’. Now it’s your turn to spring into action. Happy bulb-planting! Update from Councillor
Rachael Blake It was lovely to see Bawtry Gardening Club’s Vegetable, Flower, Produce and Art and Craft Show taking place again on 10 September, which was the first time in a number of years that it was open to the public to enter the classes. There were many entries and public visiting the show at the New Hall. As one resident said to me at the show, there is so much going on in Bawtry and Austerfield, but not everyone knows about it and hopefully the work of community groups working together to have a Heritage Weekend will help spread the word. Update on Bus Services I reported in previous updates that Austerfield now has a bus service again on Monday and Wednesdays, with the 319 ( changed from 320) leaving Austerfield at 830 before coming to Bawtry and the going onto Doncaster Interchange, returning later in the day. One of the concerns was that due to the bus leaving before 930am the concessionary passes couldn’t be used. I asked the SYPTE to waiver this as it is the only service for Austerfield residents and seemed unfair that their free passes couldn’t be used. I was really pleased to hear a couple of weeks ago, that my request has been granted, so good news for both Austerfield and Bawtry residents. I have mentioned before that this service is very much a case of use it or lose it so please do continue to use the service both in Austerfield and Bawtry – any concerns or questions, please do contact me.
Grass cutting and encroachment On a weekly basis I am out with the Street Scene manager looking at areas of concern whether litter or grass cutting or hedges being maintained. Litter in the town centre isn’t a problem I often get contacted about, due to the excellent work of the Bawtry Town Council team. The overgrown areas as a result of the Tour De Yorkshire Flowers at Dukes Terrace and near the seat on Doncaster Road are to be cleared and I was really pleased that the very overgrown area alongside Bawtry Hall which is the first thing residents see as they approach from the South is going to be cut and on the approach from Gainsborough, the weeds and verges are going to be improved. If you have specific areas that you think are in need of attention, please do let me know.

Noise from the Airport One of my roles as a ward councillor includes being a member of the Airport’s Noise Committee. There are quarterly meetings, so please do contact me with any concerns that you are experiencing and I will be happy to raise these at the meetings. I have mentioned before that I am also on DMBCs Adults and Health Scrutiny Committee and since May I have been the Chair of this Committee, and the areas we look at are all aspects of Adult Service provision and health issues such as the ambulance service. If you have any comments about any of these services, I would be happy to hear from you.
Heritage Weekend I mentioned in previous updates that following the success of community groups working together for Tour de Yorkshire, our next activity is to do more to highlight and celebrate our rich heritage in Bawtry and Austerfield. This will fit the work that the discussions David and John from the Town Council and I have been having with the Heritage Lottery Fund to attract funding to make improvements. Our plans for the Heritage weekend are in the early planning stages so more details will be in the November Bawtry Today but we are looking at producing a quarterly calendar and distributing to resident to include all the activities and events that are taking place; having a heritage trail designed for children, an organised evening candle lit walk finishing with a family event of music, food and theatre. If you would like to be involved in the planning of this weekend, please do get in touch.
October Surgery
My October Surgery will be on Friday 7 October from 10am – 12 in Bawtry Community Library – please note that this is a week earlier than the coffee morning. Tel: 07976896563/01302 710251: Email: Rachael.blake@ doncaster.gov.uk As I say every month, I have so many things going on, but can’t include them all so please do contact me. If you are a member of a group I would be very happy to come along to one of your meetings and hear your concerns, or talk more about the work of being a Doncaster ward councillor. Kind regards

MAKE A PROPERTY
TRUST WILL The
Benefit
n Protect the inheritance for children from previous relationship. n Protect up to half of the home value from care fees. n Protect your property for the next generation.
How do they work? For Property Trust Wills to be effective you must own your property jointly with your partner. Most partners own their home as joint tenants. This means when one dies the home will automatically pass to the survivor. We will alter the ownership from joint tenants to tenants in common. This means you own a distinct share which you can then leave into the Property Trust which grants the surviving spouse a life interest in the home for their lifetime. Should the surviving spouse need to go into a care home then only their share of the home is taken into account not the whole. Should your spouse/ partner remarry
or make a new Will after your death then your share of the home is protected for your beneficiaries. With arranged Care Home costs currently in the region of £600 per week, the cost of £300.00 is a small price to pay for the severance of joint tenancy and Wills. Tickhill & Bawtry Probus Three more stimulating talks and two new members! Ashley Franklin gave us a talk on “Derbyshire Rambling” illustrated by lots of fine photographs which set members off to find their walking boots. Jean Townsend described the process of discovering the Mary Rose, confirming its identity, excavating it on the seabed, raising it and then the prolonged process of preserving it – as ever from Jean, a very interesting talk. At our latest meeting, George Clarke described the history of the Silk Road, its significance in terms of commerce, and the spreading and intermingling of cultures, and then talked us through his own exploration of the route. September 22nd offers us the Ladies’ Lunch when members invite their partners and also extend a welcome to the widows of past members. On Thursday October 13th Tony Jones will give us a talk entitled “From Behind the Settee” and on 27th October Tony Dodworth will talk on “Victorian Medical Detectives”. Two new members have joined us having come along for a taster meeting. They liked what they saw - the friendly conversation and banter, with possibly a pint and a lunch together in the Millstone in Tickhill. Meetings start at 10.00am for 10.30am. AN ENERGETIC AND SPARKLING EXHIBITION AT THE HUB
Pat Carrington, a local artist, has her first solo exhibition in the Hub’s first-floor gallery on Churchgate, Retford. Pat is an artist from North Lincolnshire, who now lives in Retford. From an early age she has felt driven to sketch, draw, paint and to create. Pat says: ‘Ever since childhood my first passion has been to create art. I am a self-taught artist and proud of that. Gradually over the years, I’ve tried most mediums and this has led me to use mixed media more and more in my paintings.’ The majority of Pat’s artwork in this exhibition will feature a different medium, that of ‘Resin Art’. Her abstract paintings are colourful and bold with a glass like appearance. This medium, although challenging, offers an opportunity to loosen up and break the boundaries of realism to allow the artwork to grow more organically. The movement of the resin creates a path of dazzling colour making each creation unique and bespoke. Some of Pat’s artworks are painted in acrylic in a realist style before being sealed with clear resin. This technique gives a three-dimensional appearance, a water-clear, glass result with an amazing depth to it. So, whether your preference is abstract or realist art, there is something for everyone in this colourful exhibition which will be at the Hub Gallery until 27th of October. The Hub is available for local artists to exhibit and currently has studio space available for artists and artisans to rent. Being at the centre of this new artistic community presents more opportunities. For further information please contact the Hub on 01777 860414 T TO ADVERTISE CALL 01302 969696

Bawtry Town Council - October 2016 There is little to report this month, as the Council did not have a routine meeting in August. That was a problem for progressing the new BARS pavilion on the Memorial Sports Ground, however, as BARS needed their lease agreeing and signing. An Extraordinary Meeting was therefore convened to deal with this.
New pavilion at the Memorial Sports Ground
The Council own the Memorial Sports Ground - hence the need for the lease. Without this, the various organisations which had committed grant funding for the new pavilion would not release their funds. The lease was agreed and signed. The terms of the lease include public right of access to the Sports Ground, including dog walkers so long as dogs are kept on a lead. BARS also committed to using any revenue (membership fees, bar takings, room hire, and BTC grant) which exceeds expenditure to reduce fees and / or improve the facility. 48 BAWTRY TODAY
This now takes us close to the release of the grant funds to BARS and the commencement of building works within a few weeks.
Crime in Bawtry
There is concern about recent incidents in Bawtry. The Town Council has been seeking dialogue with South Yorkshire Police for some time, and Inspector Payling, from the unit that covers Bawtry, has agreed to attend our 13th September meeting. It is hoped that we will receive some hard information about crime in Bawtry – about its level and if it is changing, and about how it is being managed. All meetings of the Town Council commence at 7 pm in the New Hall, with a 15-minute Public
Participation session at the start of the meeting.
The Bawtry Neighbourhood Plan development is now well underway. As part of the ongoing communication exercise, 2 events are planned in October at The Crown Hotel. The first is on Thursday 6th - which is for the ‘Landowner & Businesses’ community starting at 6 pm. The second is on Wednesday 19th - which is for the local ‘Community Groups’ starting at 7 pm. For more information about the plan, and these events, please visit the web site at www.bawtry neighbourhoodplan.org.uk
