“I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.” - Back to school time already! Good luck to all those starting school or nursery for the first time, moving to a new school, heading off to College, University, Apprenticeship or first job. The summer holidays do seem to have gone quickly, but then they always do. This year I have been lucky enough to visit Orlando, Florida for the first time. 13 of us made our way around all of the Disney Parks, Universal Studios and various other Florida attractions. I now need another holiday to recover! Lots of great memories have been made however.

Travelling the world means expanded horizons not an expanded waistline! Travelling from place to place, and visiting different countries and cultures, can lead to many tempting, unhealthy food choices and options. With pastries, cakes, breads and sumptuous desserts it’s easy to make excuses to overindulge and see the weight pile on – and that’s exactly what happened to Gemma when she took on a travelling role for her aviation employer. Even when home, with long, unsocial working hours, it was far simpler to grab a takeaway than cook a healthy meal! Before long McDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC all became staple meals… Gemma said “I struggled to exercise and enjoy the outdoors, spending time at home instead of out enjoying life. But it wasn’t until the extra weight began to cause added health complications such as sciatica, and the worry of needing a seat belt extension on that next flight, that I decided I needed to take action. That’s when I joined my local Slimming World Group in Bawtry for assistance!” Gemma remembers the trepidation she felt stepping through the doors for the first time with the moral support of a work colleague – but she quickly realised that there was a warm and friendly welcome waiting for her on that first night! Thoroughly inspired by her introduction to the Food Optimising plan, Gemma set off on her slimming journey, which would see her shed 3 stone 3lb over the coming months. The Group consultant and members became firm friends and were always ready to provide support, hints and tips to help her on her journey. After falling in love with the plan, and seeing her amazing results, Gemma quickly persuaded her partner, Caleb to join her at the Group. Working together they both watched the weight fall off whilst eating fabulous meals, including tasty comfort foods like curries, kebabs, stews and casseroles. Gemma said ““I had tried to lose weight so many times before by following numerous diets but they were always restrictive and I often felt hungry. Slimming World is so different and it certainly doesn’t feel like a diet. The plan encourages you 8

to eat lots of tasty, filling foods like pasta, rice, potatoes and lean meat and fish, you are never hungry and no foods are banned so there’s no deprivation. The key benefit for me was that you can eat as much as you need to feel full and satisfied - I couldn’t believe I’d found a way to lose weight without starving myself. In fact, I probably eat more now than I’ve ever done!” Now at her dream target weight, Gemma said “With the support of my Group and food optimising, I’ve learned the tools I need to make good food choices and stay slim and healthy for the rest of my life. Simple things like asking for dressings on the side, opting for meals without sauces and picking grilled foods instead of fried foods have been a great help. Even when I’m travelling I’m not afraid to ask for my meals to be optimised to ensure I stick to the healthy options!” After being at her target weight for 18 months, and working as part of the Group social team, Gemma has decided that she wants to give help and support to other people who are struggling with their weight. She’s now trained as a Consultant for Slimming World, and will be re-launching the Bawtry Group. The Group meets on a Thursday at 3.30pm and 5.30pm at the New Hall on Station Road.

Hi Everyone, We hope you are all enjoying your summer break. I know how difficult it has been to try and keep your pets cool in the heat, it’s also been really hard walking your dogs, as the ideal time is closer to 9pm when the weather has cooled slightly, that’s if we are able to stay awake until then! Here are some special people to thank. Charlotte and Rob MacConnachie have taken part in a 3 Peak Challenge. Charlotte and her colleagues from Cannon Fire APG Group carried out a sponsored walk on the 11th August. They have raised sponsorship for 3 worthwhile Charities including Mayflower Sanctuary. So a very big thank you and we hope your legs were not too sore at the end of the Challenge. One of our regular supporters will be at the Austerfield Village Show on the 2nd Sept so I hope it is a good day and everyone has fun and supports all the Charities there. We will be holding a Ladies only night in our Reception at the Sanctuary in October (date to be confirmed) keep an eye on our Website. This will be glass of punch, coffee and cake. There will be interesting stalls and if you haven’t started your Christmas shopping maybe that’s a good place to start. Tickets will be £ 5 to include the above. Please support this event ladies, I think you will find it will be great fun. Please see our lovely special selection of cats this month. Penny is our cattery manager and she will be happy to chat to you about all the cats in her care.

Tilly Female 3 years July 2018 Possibly ? ?
Tilly came into care with her buddies Rupert and Tabby because their owner was being evicted and was unable to take them with him to the new house. As previous housecats they have found life difficult here and have struggled to settle but are getting there now. Tilly is proving to be a fussy little lady although she can be a little tentative at first. She is good with other cats, particularly Rupert. She has previously lived with a dog but it chased her constantly so she may be wary of any canine friends. A home with Rupert would be perfect but Tilly would be happy to be homed alone. All she wants is a family to call her own again and a warm lap to cuddle up on in the evening. Not much to ask for eh ???

Rupert Male 2 Years July 2018 Possibly Some Older
Rupert came into care with his buddies Tilly and Tabby because their owner was being evicted and was unable to take them with him to the new house. As previous housecats they have found life difficult here and have struggled to settle. Rupert is quite a timid little chap and as such he may like to remain as a housecat in his new home. He gets easily spooked by loud/sudden noises. He is very shy at first meeting but once he gets to know you, he can be quite fussy with a purr like a tractor. All he needs is a little time and patience for his true personality to come shining through. The wait will be worth it. He is extremely close to his buddies so a home with one of them would be preferred. He has previously lived with a dog but it chased him constantly so he may be wary of any canine friends.
If you wish to call us regarding our cats or dogs please call 01302 711330 and leave a message we will be happy to contact you.

& what’s going on - SEPTEMBER 2018 •
VAL HUNT Do you know about JUST A CARD Campaign? This aims to encourage people to buy from Designer/Makers and Independent Galleries and your local Shops in your town or village, by reinforcing the message that all purchases, however small, even ‘just a card’ are so vital to the prosperity and survival of small businesses. The campaign came about when Artist & Designer Sarah Hamilton saw the quote “If everyone who’d complimented our beautiful gallery had bought ‘just a card’ we’d still be open” by store keepers who’d recently closed their gallery. This prompted a call to action! Designer/Makers and independent shops and galleries need a voice. People seldom realise the considerable costs involved in exhibiting at design shows or keeping a shop open. Stand fees, power, materials, wages etc need to be met before even a penny of profit can be realised. Running a shop is often a labour of love. Without dedication and passion, and crucially sales, it would be another boarded up eyesore. This is true for all the things I list on this page. Without your support and/ or the purchase of ‘just a card’ then there would be nothing to list here. www.justacard.org Now then, it’s that time of year when you need to be dusting off your masterworks and preparing them for exhibition in the Doncaster Open Exhibition 2018. Application forms are in all the local libraries and the Museum itself. Delivery dates for ‘judgement’ are 20 to 23 September and the show, which is hung ‘salon-style’. The show runs from 13 October to 9 December. Be a part of it! Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery open Wed to Sunday Exhibition: Until 16th September ‘ENDANGERED AND EXTINCT: RECYCLED SCULPTURES’ by Val Hunt. This is a super vibrant exhibition of old tin cans made into the most fantastic creatures. Miners Pension Compensation We are successfully claiming compensation for former miners who transferred out of the Mineworkers Pension Scheme. Many miners were advised to transfer their British Coal Pension to a private pension scheme which paid considerably less! This was bad advice and many retired miners or their widows have lost out.
Example 1 - £110,000
Example 2 - £48,000
Mr D, a former miner from Barnsley, was made redundant in the late 1980s. After the pits closed he was encouraged by an agent of the Prudential to transfer his Mineworkers Pension Scheme to them. We were able to show that this was bad advice. The Prudential eventually accepted this and agreed settlement of £110,000.
Mr F, a former miner from Doncaster, was made redundant in the 1980’s. He was advised by an agent of Sun Life to transfer his Mineworkers Pension Scheme to them. He was promised he would get a much better return which wasn’t the case. We submitted a formal complaint; Sun Life agreed to award Mr F a lump sum of £48,333.34.

It was a good opportunity to catch up on village matters - the yarn bombing had been a huge success, and plans for a Neighbourhood Watch scheme are now underway. WI matters were discussed, specially our birthday celebrations in August. Inevitably, much of the talk centred on refreshments as well as speculation about our visiting speaker. Phil Rylance was part of a band in the sixties and we are looking forward to listening to him talk about his life on the road and quiz us about our pop song memories of that era.
We are a friendly group who meet at the New Hall, Bawtry on a Wednesday morning, 9.30-12.30. We paint in a variety of styles, including Botanical, and a variety of media and will accept new members of any ability. Established members are all willing to share their expertise.
I was determined not to mention the moon as it was a couple of nights from being a full moon - but it has been hailed as a particularly important blood moon with the longest lunar eclipse for some time; it certainly looked impressive on the way home. Walks for Carers and the Cared For in Doncaster A new initiative has been launched in Doncaster, to help get Carers and the Cared for, out and about walking! In the year when we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS, let’s remember too the hundreds, nay thousands who regularly care and look after elderly parents, young children, friends or neighbours, with little recognition or reward. The carers task is ceaseless, stressful and isolating. Walking and especially walking in groups, eases tension and raises WKH VSLULWV )RU DQ KRXU RU WZR WKH ZRUOG LV D GL HUHQW SODFH 7KXV LW ZDV RQ RXU ȴ UVW :DON IRU &DUHUV DQG WKH &DUHG )RU DW Cusworth Hall on Wednesday 11th July. Sponsored by Sports England and organised by Doncaster Carers Centre, and Doncaster Ramblers, 35 excited participants took a coach from South Parade to Cusworth Hall. Waiting there to greet them were seven eager Ramblers ready as guides on their walk. In fact two walks were planned, a shorter stroll around the grounds of Cusworth Hall, and a more ambitious trek out to Sprotbrough and returning via the TPT. As the sun shone everyone was keen to make a start, but not before the obligatory group photo.
Love Walking? Join the Ramblers We are the only charity dedicated to looking after paths and green spaces. Membership allows you to choose from hundreds of led walks all over the country every week. Like to walk independently? Membership gives access to Britain’s best online library of walking routes. The Retford Group have a full programme of walks in various locations.

9th September
There is a hill at Cusworth Hall which was the main challenge for both groups, but luckily there was plenty of help at hand to get up and down. Indeed the 24 who took the longer route of about four miles, were an inspiration. Spirits were high as everyone retuned safe to the café at Cusworth Hall, where much welcome afternoon tea had been laid on. At 3pm the coach returned everyone to South Parade.

NEWS FROM THE EAST NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICE INSPECTOR Dear Readers, At the time of writing, the exceptionally hot weather has left us and we are now experiencing some cooler weather together with little rain. Despite this, the threat of field fires remains and we are aware of a significant increase in arson incidents in some parts of Doncaster over the past month. As such, I continue to urge all parents to remind your children of the severe risks such actions carry, which includes a danger to homes, people, animals and farm crops. Over the last month, the continuing hot days and warm nights have forced some of us to leave windows open at night and sadly, we have seen some cases where opportunist thieves have taken advantage of the situation. Although the weather is cooling now, please consider your home security during any forthcoming warmer spells. Keep ground floor windows closed and locked at night, and don’t forget to secure any first floor windows easily accessible from single storey roofs. Despite all of the above, in terms of overall crime, levels have continued to remain static with no particular emerging issues causing me any great concerns. However, I urge readers to remain vigilante and ensure
you implement simple crime prevention methods to reduce the chances of you becoming a victim of crime. You can look at this via our website – www. southyorks.police.uk I now offer a brief resume of the main crimes of interest, which have occurred in Bawtry between 11th July and 12th August. Please note the crimes I have mentioned below do not reflect all crime which has taken place, but are those which I believe will be of more interest to readers.
on 24 July. Sadly, very few people attended, but this was not a major surprise as crime and ASB in Tickhill and the surrounding villages is relatively low. By the time you read this our next meeting on 30th August at the Crown Hotel, Bawtry starting at 7pm is likely to have also already taken place. Watch out for the date of our first interactive Facebook engagement meeting I am planning to hold in September. I will be advertising the date soon.
In terms of anti social behaviour, we only recorded two incidents in Bawtry and none in Austerfield during July, compared to five in June.
Don’t forget you can access up to date information and stories from SYP via our Facebook page – just search for Doncaster East NHP. Alternatively, you can look at our website page – www. southyorks.police.uk. Finally, if you would like to receive information about incidents, crime spikes, crime prevention advice or news from South Yorkshire Police, you can sign up to SYP alerts by registering via our website (www. southyorks.police.uk) The site will give you more details about the system and I hope to see many of you register soon.
I also wanted to mention just a few other things;
Mark Payling - Inspector
We recorded just one attempt residential burglary in Bawtry where the offenders tried to enter the house via the rear kitchen window. We also recorded one commercial burglary. Furthermore, we saw a motorcycle get stolen off a driveway but later recovered. Other than this, we recorded three crimes for criminal damages, three assaults, two public order offences and several miscellaneous thefts.
We also held our first ‘Partners and Communities Together Meeting’ (PACT) at the Tickhill Tavern, North Gate, Tickhill

Community The Great Bassetlaw Flower Show at Bassetlaw Museum and Art Gallery in Retford This exhibition will include work by Ted Hamlyn, Janet Buckle, Neil McGregor, Ann Everitt, Hilary Cartmel, Kate Houghton, Polly Warren, Maggy Milner, Rosemary Firth, Chris Campbell, Carol Eason, Julian Grainger, Kate van Millingen and Michael Johnson. The artists, who have worked with Flowers as a subject, often over many years. They are a mixed group and include graduates from the Royal College of Art, The Slade, St Martins and the Trent Poly (Nottingham) Fine Art degree course. This exhibition seeks to visually explore why in these super high tech times does this subject matter, often perceived as soft and genteel still hold relevance to artists working today. In the UK we spend over £1billion every year on these most fragile and beautiful objects* in order to have the real things in our homes, to place on the graves of loved ones, to give as gifts of thanks, celebration or apology. They bring joy and are something that almost all of us share a passion for in some way. For many artists Flowers are an absorbing and demanding subject. Flowers are shortlived, so lack of time is an additional pressure for the artist to solve the problem of colour and form and expression. The show will include a range of paintings, collages, drawings and printmaking approaches with several works by each artist. * BBC4 The world’s Biggest Flower Market 2018

$ KRVW RI JROGHQ 'DÎ? RGLOV Garden centres, nurseries and catalogues are full of daffodil bulbs now. I have to exercise supreme self-restraint every time I wander in! I think I get asked more questions about daffodils than any other plant, apart from roses. I think it’s because they are ubiquitous in the spring and so we assume they are easy to grow. They are...and they aren’t, so I’ll answer the most common questions I get asked here. I think the question I get most is ’How do I get P\ GDIIRGLOV WR Ă€ RZHU PRUH WKDQ RQH \HDU"Âś It’s a good question. It’s tempting to think that the only thing you have to remember about planting daffodil bulbs is to set them pointy side up, but it’s a bit more complicated than that if \RX ZDQW WKHP WR Ă€ RZHU HYHU\ \HDU The trick is to set them deep enough. If you plant them just below the surface, as so many of people do, they dry out, which means they lack the food and moisture to get them through until the following year. The result is an uninteresting clump of leaves rather than a host of golden daffodils.
The third question I’m often asked is, ‘How far DSDUW VKRXOG , SODQW WKH EXEV" They should be planted about 3 inches / 8cm apart in holes about 10 inches / 25cm deep. It looks deep when you are dropping them in EXW LWÂśV ZRUWK WKH HIIRUW IRU WKH UHSHDW Ă€ RZHULQJ &KRRVH WKH ELJJHVW Âż UPHVW EXOEV \RX FDQ Âż QG for each variety. 7KH Âż QDO TXHVWLRQ , JHW DVNHG LV Âľ:KHQ FDQ , FXW GRZQ WKH IROLDJH DIWHU Ă€ RZHULQJ"Âś , ZRXOG suggest waiting for 6 weeks. If you have a very small garden and can’t bear to have untidy foliage lying around you might be better treating the bulbs as annuals (daffodil bulbs aren’t generally expensive.). Or you can plant them in an aquatic basket, and after Ă€ RZHULQJ \RX FDQ GLJ WKH EDVNHW XS ZDWHU WKH bulbs regularly then replant in the autumn.
You can plant daffodils any time now, to the end of October. Sooner is better.
Alternatively, you can buy dwarf varieties of GDIIRGLO ZKLFK KDYH GDLQWLHU À RZHUV DQG IROLDJH VR \RX FDQ KDYH SUHWW\ À RZHUV ZLWKRXW WKH resulting foliage posing a problem.
The next question I get asked a lot is, ‘What’s WKH GLIIHUHQFH EHWZHHQ GDIIRGLOV DQG QDUFLVVL"Âś
Whatever you decide, remember plant deeper than you think and‌
This is also a good question. All daffodils are narcissi, but not all narcissi are daffodils! ‘Daffodils’ is the name we give to narcissi with large trumpets.

Community to renovate and move the war memorial has given back word. However, Cllr Alan Claypole (BTC Chair) has informed the BRG that three more contractors have now submitted new quotes for the renovation and relocation of the memorial to outside the library.
The guest speakers at the July BRG meeting were Mr Dennis Taylor who is the Doncaster area coordinator for Neighbourhood watch network, Peter Bentley a Bawtry resident working hard to resurrect the neighbourhood scheme in and around Bawtry area. Anyone wishing to assist Peter can contact him via the following dedicated email address: - west. bawtry.nwn@gmail.com The meeting was also informed that we will be getting a new police Inspector for our area, Inspector Lynne Lancaster. It is hoped that she will be able to attend our next scheduled meeting in September to outline how the restructuring changes may impact Bawtry. We are pleased to report that the BRG have been informed that there are plans for a temporary 3RVW 2ɝ FH WZR VHVVLRQV SHU week for 3.5 hours per session) to be established in the library. The process is well underway with a dedicated phone line and power supply being installed. The new Bawtry Town Council ‘Events Working Group’, chaired by Cllr Muxlow and with representatives from both the retail association and Bawtry residents are meeting on regular basis to try and organise/ co-ordinate events for our town. Hopefully, we will have VSHFLȴ F GHWDLOV RQ SURSRVHG planned events to be held in and around Bawtry next month. Finally, the proposed construction and operation of a Wasteto-Energy Power Generator in Harworth (NCC Planning Reference No: ES/3860) has caused a great deal of concern and debate with the neighbouring communities, including Bawtry. Much of the debate is with respect to: Location, the proposed location of this very large building is on an industrial site adjacent to the Parish of Harworth & Bircotes boundary as well as being in close proximity to the historic town of Bawtry (approximately 2.5 miles DV WKH FURZ ȵ LHV 7KH VL]H RI WKH building will have a negative visual impact on the town and the 65m high chimney stack will ensure that the plume including airborne particulate matter will fall over the town of Bawtry. When this occurs Bawtry becomes gridlocked with HGV’s and the proposed siting of this plant will only make this situation worse, adding to the pollution caused by stationary vehicles so reducing the air quality which then as a detrimental impact on the health of the residents of Bawtry. Tourism and Retail: Bawtry was always a popular destination for both tourists (links to the Pilgrim Fathers and a historic 12th century port) but the increase LQ WUDɝ F HVSHFLDOO\ IURP +*9ȇV as begun to impact upon the vibrancy of the town, a number of businesses have closed and a number of others report that footfall has reduced to worrying levels. The proposed location of this site and the increase in the YROXPH RI WUDɝ F WKDW ZLOO UHVXOW from it being built can only have a detrimental impact upon on the retailers of Bawtry, discouraging visitors and have a negative impact on property prices. Given all of the above the Bawtry Residents Group would urge residents to oppose the building and operation of this plant. The next BRG meeting will be held on the 27th Sept at 7:30pm in the Crown hotel.

New Beginnings Dear Friends, As September approaches my thoughts are full of new beginnings. Of children returning to school after the long summer holidays. The start of the new academic year for teachers and support VWDÎ? 2I JDUGHQHUV HQMR\LQJ WKH ODWH Čľ RXULVK RI Čľ RZHU EHGV SDUFKHG EH\RQG HQGXUDQFH but miraculously restored by recent rainfall. For myself, a new beginning, as I settle into my new role as Lay Pastor of the Methodist Churches in Bawtry, Harworth and Tickhill. For the UK wide Connexion of Methodist Churches it is the beginning of our new church year. And some churches choose this time WR UH DÉ? UP WKHLU FRPPLWPHQW WR *RG WKH church and whatever it is that each person is uniquely called to do as a follower of Jesus. We make this beautiful prayer to God:
By this prayer we acknowledge that for some of us there seems to be no way forward, no new beginning possible and as I pray these words, I think particularly of lives ruled by addiction, constrained by acute illness, or lost to dementia. But God is with us always and it is the whole of life and the whole of us that is held in God’s loving care. As the church, we are blessed to be a part of so many new beginnings. The Christening of a baby; the marriage of a couple; the funeral of a loved one, which we believe celebrates both the life on earth of the person and the start for that individual of a new perfect existence with God, in heaven, forever. But even more, as the church, we are a community called to new beginnings. We are ordinary people who fail and disappoint, ourselves and each other. But through the unending generosity of our loving God, are forgiven, UHVWRUHG RÎ? HUHG D IUHVK VWDUW D QHZ EHJLQQLQJ
Let me be employed for you or laid aside for you,
So I have shared some of my new beginnings with you and you have shared some of your new beginnings with us, your local Christian community. Know that we are here should you need us and be assured of the warmest of welcomes.
Exalted for you or brought low for you;
May God bless you and keep you.

Bawtry Town Council - September 2018 Market Hill Taxi Rank
Events Working Group
The consultation for a new taxi rank at Market Hill is now underway with assistance from DMBC. The Town Council proposes to provide a rank on Market Hill from 10pm until 2am to enable the safe egress of visitors at night time. The Council recognises that currently there isn’t adequate taxi provision to enable visitors to get home in a safe and prompt manner, despite the town having a very busy night time economy. Feedback from the consultation will be considered in due course before the provision of a rank is progressed and operational.
The Council recently set up an Events Working Group which has met to consider future events in the town. Any events proposed by the group and approved by the Town Council will be Council led. However if residents are interested in being involved with the group (which also has co-opted residents involved) so they can contribute or participate in the organisation of events they should contact the chair of the group, Councillor Paul Muxlow at paul. muxlow@bawtrytowncouncil.com
Market Hill Stall
The next Council meeting is on Tuesday 11th September at 7.00pm Residents & Businesses are welcome to attend BTC meetings. There is a 15 minute public discussion period for specific questions to be put to Council. Please come along & get involved.
The Council has recently been approached regarding the provision of a fruit and vegetable stall at Market Hill. The details are yet to be put before or discussed by members but will be considered at the September Council meeting. It is understood that the proposal is supported by the Bawtry Retailers Association
Meetings
Bawtry Enhancements The Town Council is currently investing in the image of Bawtry with members having agreed a budget for new planters on Market Hill with the existing ones to be re-located to Station Road. New notice boards are also being considered which community groups will be encouraged to use. All the boundary signs are now sponsored by local businesses with sponsorship plaques to be installed in the near future. The Council are therefore looking to place flower planters at the base of the signs to further enhance the entrances to the town.
Post Office Residents will be aware that for many weeks the local post office has been closed and the Council has been in discussions with the Post Office service about our concerns with the current situation. It is understood that the post office will not continue to operate at its existing location but the Council is in discussions with the service about their plans to have a post office restored elsewhere in Bawtry.

Next Litter pick – 10am 1 September meeting at Premier Shop, Station Road
Litter pick
Another busy month with lots of good things happening in Bawtry and Austerfield. There is always lots happening and the Angel Festival held at St Helena’s church was a great event with lots of hours spent by dedicated volunteers to make it happen. The church looked fantastic and a few residents had produced their own angels which was good to see. It was great that it was a well-attended event and September sees the Parish Council organise the annual village show on 2nd September at the Study Centre which is always an excellent event.
Thank you to all the volunteers who attended the last litter pick – the best turnout ever. With the help of the Street Scene team – Jamie and Keith we managed to clear Doncaster/Great North road up to the layby past Yorkshire Caravans. It was frustrating for some volunteers as they were keen to pick both sides of the road but this wouldn’t have been safe due to the speed of the traffic. The next litter pick is 10am on 1 September leaving from Premier on Station Road. Pam and Brian our long standing volunteers will be leading this one due to Rachael and Alan Claypole not being available.
I noticed that due to all the information that I included in my last update it might not have been easy to read so hopefully this is easier for everyone but still includes useful updates.
Bawtry Hall
Post Office This last week I have been assisting the library trustees in their negotiations with DMBC to ensure all the necessary paperwork is in place to ensure the post office is operating on a temporary basis from the library – further details are provided in this magazine in the Community Library update. It will be good for Bawtry to have a post office service back and hopefully it isn’t going to be too long until it is back permanently in Bawtry. Training Flights affecting residents A lot of residents have contacted me to tell me how the training flights in particular are impacting on them. I had my meeting that I mentioned in last month’s update with the Environmental Health Officer from Doncaster Council and the airport staff. They explained that their preference of run way is to use the one that has less impact on Bawtry and Austerfield residents but due to the hot weather this hasn’t been possible. Also, the airport staff said that they are aware of how the flights impact on some residents and because of this, they don’t accept all requests from airlines to use the airport for training flights. They are complying with the various planning agreements and I enquired about additional insulation for residents most affected by the noise. They explained that due to this scheme which was available for very few residents in a narrow area of impact (the airport defined this small area) starting over 10 years ago, it is no longer applicable. I am going to have a further conversation about this with DMBC to see what can be done because I am concerned that for some residents, the impact of these flights is serious and affecting their quality of life. The airport publishes planned training flights which they have said they will send to me as well as to the parish council. Please do contact me if you wish to discuss further.
I have had confirmation that clearing up the verge outside Bawtry Hall is on the list of winter works for DMBC. The reason for the delay is that they have had to find out if any of the overhanging trees have a Tree Preservation Order on them – if they do then a planning application will have to be made. I have also identified a number of other areas that will benefit from being tidied up which I hope will be done over the winter period. Getting in Touch Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the next coffee morning at the Community Library, due to other work commitments, but will be there as usual in October. If you would like to meet to discuss any concerns, please get in touch by email of phone and we can meet in the library anytime or if you are unable to get out then I can come to you. Please get in touch with us if we can assist with any way. We can assist with resolving Doncaster Council complaints as well as housing concerns and if it doesn’t fall within our remit we can refer you on to the most appropriate person who can help. Rachael Tel: 07976896563 Email: Rachael.blake@doncaster.gov.uk Mick Tel: 07758089737 Email: mick.cooper@doncaster.gov.uk Thank you for reading this and for your continued support. Hope to see you at one of our litter picks or other community meetings. Kindest regards

Pastor’s Page My wife and I like to walk our dogs along the &KHVWHUȴ HOG &DQDO WRZSDWK Ȃ LWȇV Ⱦ DW WKH GRJV are in a contained area, the ever-changing scenery and glimpses of wildlife all mean it always makes for a lovely walk. And if we happen to pass a pub where we can sit out and watch the narrow boats slide by, all the better. However, I never had the chance to go on one of those lovely boats. Not until one day in August when a friend invited me to spend a day with him on his rented boat. I loved it. I enjoyed the curves of the wooden walls, the fact that on board is a bit of a squeeze, the chug chugging of the engine and, most of all, the slow pace of movement. I hadn’t been on the boat 5 minutes before I felt myself calming down; the normal frantic rush melting away. It was more the calming of the mind than the slowing down physically that struck me. I could have sat on the deck with a book and cup of tea all day, as long as my friend was willing to steer the boat, clear out the weed, operate the locks, etc. Which he wasn’t, obviously. But even navigating past clumps of weed, ducks or other boats, jumping up to operate the locks, etc was peaceful. The knowledge that people had been taking boats up and down WKH &KHVWHUȴ HOG &DQDO VLQFH WKH WK FHQWXU\ going under the same bridges and through the same locks, was somehow reassuring.
