welcome TO THE DECEMBER EDITION OF BAWTRY TODAY. Another year has flown past and here I am again putting together the Christmas editions! Thank you for all your comments about the new design of the magazine, in general these were all incredibly positive and we will continue to make on-going improvements, keeping your feedback in mind. This month’s issue contains lots of details of Christmas events, fairs and concerts. I hope you will enjoy supporting them this festive season. The January issue will be delivered to you over the New Year period. It does however have to be with all of the distributors before Christmas, and as I am hoping to leave deliveries to Santa on Christmas Eve I have needed to set the deadline for submissions particularly early! Please ensure that anything you would like to be included is with me by Friday 7th December. While it does seem incredibly early (i am writing this mid-November) i would like to take the opportunity to wish you and your families a very happy Christmas.

HOME OWNERS AGED 50+ Protect your home from future Care Home fees Does this sound familiar? “We’ve worked hard and saved all our lives, why should the Local Authority get it all?”
APRIL KING are your local specialists and most of our clients come to us having already made ‘Mirror Wills’. Rather than leaving everything to each other, you and your spouse (or partner) leave your respective share of your home to the children in Trust but say that they cannot have it whilst the surviving spouse/ partner is still alive. This half would then NOT be included in any future means test calculations. The surviving spouse is free to sell their share of the home, raise cash or move house. Your children are powerless to intervene but simply have to wait for their inheritance, as they would have done under your old ‘Mirror Will’. Do you Qualify? Property Trust Wills must be written whilst you are both still alive and in good mental health. Unfortunately, these are unsuitable if you are single or a surviving spouse who now owns the property outright. It is therefore important for couples to act now.
“We have made our Wills leaving everything to each other then to the children”. These are known as ‘Mirror Wills’. Sounds reassuring enough doesn’t it! But your children could in fact end up with very little or even nothing at all. The main reason for this is your surviving spouse requiring residential care when you are no longer here to look after them. Although the possibility of care may seem a long way off, there are steps your should take now to protect your home. Care Costs - If your surviving spouse has to go into care, they will have to use all their assets to pay for their care until they get down to their last £14,250. It is therefore not a good idea to leave your half share of the home in your Will to your surviving partner. The answer is to make new Property Trust Wills. You may be unaware that legislation is already in place for you to take advantage of these types of Wills.
Our free information pack tells you all you need to know about protecting your home from future care charges and also includes details of our special ‘Bloodline Trust Wills’ which prevent your children and grandchildren from losing their inheritance due to a child’s divorce, remarriage or financial difficulties.

A wonderful trip through 5 millennia of sculptors using this most durable material. this exhibition finishes on 9 December. Not only this but also the shakespeare staging the world at the British museum that finished on the 25th. this exhibition looked at london’s emerging role as a world city through the perspective of the shakespeare’s plays. two shows where the curators’ visions became the work of art. Just occasionally all the effort and expense of getting to the capital is worth it!
of having music played live in a small venue by musicians who have learnt their trade over many years with skill, dedication and passion and who will play to an audience of between 40 and 140 people for a small fee out of which has to come petrol, accommodation and all the rest is i think very humbling. Bounce Pr has just been selected by 4Networking, to help raise their profile on a national level. 4Networking, which currently boasts over 50,000 members, was created by manchester born Brad Burton, the UK’s number one motivational speaker and author of the highest rated and reviewed business book on Amazon. in debt and delivering pizzas only six years ago, Brad is now mD of the fastest growing networking group in the UK, with over 300 groups currently in operation, running five days a week. regularly run breakfast and evening group networking sessions held in each region means that local businesses have the support and mentoring they need to help build their brand and reputation. “When all is said and done, success is down to you but everyone needs support
Bounce PR awarded national account by 4networking and the right tools to help grow a business, and that’s why i launched 4Networking,” explains Brad Burton. “i work on the ethos of like Know trust, and this is at the heart of 4Networking, as i wouldn’t do business with anyone i don’t know, like or trust, so why would others expect to?” “We want more people across the UK to become aware that these resources are available to them right on their doorstep, and that’s why we’ve chosen Bounce Pr to help us achieve this,” he continues. “When you run a national network you get to choose the best of the best, hence the reason that tori and her team are handling 4Networking’s account.” launched in 2007 when journalist tori oldridge decided she wanted to help local businesses explore just how much Public relations could help
boost their sales in a cost effective way, the company has gone from strength to strength securing both national and regional clients within the beauty, travel, hospitality and music industry, to name but a few. “Bounce itself has benefited so much from networking and i was delighted when Brad approached me about overseeing the Pr for 4Networking in the region earlier this year, so to be then asked to manage the national side of the organisation as well, is absolutely fantastic,” says tori. “Businesses are still very much trying to buck the trend of the recession and with networking really being the most effective marketing tool out there available to them, we intend to try and make as many smes and start-ups as possible become aware of it, and how it can help boost their bottom line.”

The divine story of the nativity EVERYTIME MY WIFE and i go shopping prior to Christmas, we (or should i say i), purchase another Nativity set to add to our growing collection. We have sets from around the world, israel, south America, Africa, india, england, and possibly quite a few from China. it is becoming exceedingly difficult to find any space around the house whilst Christmas decorating, every conceivable nook and cranny is covered with these Nativity scenes. i must however point out i buy them, but my wife is responsible for finding room for them to be on display, that’s called delegation of labour, (not words my wife would use!). i love the ways the story of Jesus’ birth is portrayed in glass, wood, ceramic, plastic and paper. each one conveys the vulnerability of that little family group pushed around by an occupying force within their 22 BAWTRY TODAY
own country, then threatened with violence, before having to flee and become refugees, asylum seeekers in a foreign land. it is a very human story, that is sadly all too real in our world today, but it is a very ‘divine’ story because it speaks of the extent God goes to reveal his love for his humanity, his own son Jesus becoming one of us, one with us, that we may be made one with God.
immanuel (God is always with us), century after century, season after season, moment by moment, we need never walk alone again, for Jesus isn’t just for Christmas but for everyone, everywhere, for ever. may the Peace of God rest and remain in your hearts and homes this Christmas rev. Our highlights this term
WHAT A BUSY month we have had in school! it is hard to believe that we are already half way through the Autumn term and that it will not be long before we are up to our ankles in glitter and carol singing! it is always difficult to pick out single events to share, but here are a few of our highlights. MULTisKiLLs
our Class 1 children met with other children from local Priamary schools in a multiskills event earlier in the month. they had a really good time and came back absolutely exhausted!

our Year 5 and 6 pupils have been working with Andy Cope – a wellknown author and inspirational speaker. they learned all about the power of having a positive attitude and how viewing life slightly differently can promote and spread happiness and success. if you meet any of them, they will be able to talk to you about 2%ers and mood hoovers! there were plenty of practical ideas for them to try out, with a view to getting the best out of life – particularly valuable as these children prepare for their transition to secondary school. All that good stuff and it was great fun too!
COMMUNiTY COHesiON DAY
our year 5 children had another exciting day up at the elizabethan Academy when they met with other Year 5s from the area to find out more about the Asian culture. Workshops featured Bollywood dance, indian textiles, Chinese cooking, lion dancing and Kung Fu. 24 BAWTRY TODAY

in the Bollywood session, students dressed in indian clothing and danced to music in the traditional hindi style. Chinese lion Dancing involved students wearing the lion head costume, (often seen at New Year festivals), whilst other students kept the rhythm by beating a giant drum.
HArvesT FesTivAL
our harvest Celebration took place in Church on the day before we finished for half term. it was lovely to see the many parents, carers, governors and friends of the school who came to celebrate with us. A big thank you to all who donated groceries, they were sent to the ‘Away From it All’ project, which helps needy families to have a few days at the seaside. Class 2 worked together to write an acrostic poem about the season: Have a happy Harvest Festival Apples, scrumptious and ripe – ready to eat various vegatables for the picking each one tasting delicious super sweetcorn growing naturally Tractors ploughing the fields.
Just a reminder that there is now complete wrap around care available for children from the age of two on the school site. the Pre-school runs the facility, which includes a Breakfast Club and an After school Club, both of which can be accessed by children from other local schools. if you want any information please contact Jennie Lea at Pre-school on: 01777 816714 .
