New Adult Latin and Ballroom Dance Class

Welcome to the

December 2018 edition

at Oldcotes Village Hall Starting Monday 14th January 2019

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try and keep it all the year” Charles Dickens The December magazine already and the last magazine of 2018. I am no more organised than I have been in previous years, if anything I am less so this year. But I am sure that as always, everything essential will eventually get done. I am looking forward to relaxing for a few days between Christmas and New Year, and I know that I am very lucky to be able to do this. There will be a great many people working hard throughout Christmas keeping our hospitals open, caring for our elderly, serving in our armed forces, keeping public transport running and providing numerous other essential services.

7.30pm - 8.30pm £6.50 pp Learn waltz, quickstep, salsa, tango, cha cha and rock n roll. Pay each week as you attend. Please get in touch to book your place. Margaret Huntley Professional Latin and Ballroom dance instructor. Available for private lessons | First wedding dance

Friday practice nights at Oldcotes Village Hall 7.45pm till 9.15pm just £5.00 per couple. Please contact Margaret:

Mob: 07800 524134 / 01909 772065 www.margarethuntleyschoolofdance.co.uk

The January issue will be delivered to you between Christmas and New Year. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Friday 7th December. We do work to a slightly different time scale with this issue, as they have to be printed and delivered back to me, sorted and delivered to my team of distributors before Christmas, so as always, your assistance in getting everything to me on time would be much appreciated. Wishing you and your family and friends a very happy Christmas. Enjoy the Christmas festivities and I will be back in a months’ time with your first magazine of 2019!

Best wishes,

community Community Hello everyone, and welcome to the last write up of the year. We are all starting to think about Christmas and the joy it brings to so many people. However please give some thought to how much volunteer work people give to the Charities they support, whether it’s an animal Charity or many of the other Charities that need help. There are lots of kind people out there giving up all of their Christmas free time to help their nominated Charity. So, let’s do a big thank you to everyone. All of the dogs and cats in our care will receive the attention they deserve over Christmas and with the usual shoe box collections that we are so lucky to be part of our animals will have a super Christmas day. Our kennel assistants will be on hand over the Christmas period to make sure the dogs and cats have plenty of play time with their toys. Keep an eye on Facebook I am sure there will be lots of photos posted. Thank you to all of the girls and guys that work at Mayflower they do such a good job, you are all stars. We have street collections in Doncaster on the 1st and 22nd of December, we will be outside M & S, please come along and say hello. Don’t forget our Santa Paws at Bawtry light switch on this is a new event and will be so exciting. Just a few things to consider if you would like to either donate or contribute to our Sanctuary over the Christmas period. We are desperate for cash donations as we are struggling financially at the moment. We need to be here in the future for the families that are unable to take care of their dogs and cats, whether it’s people that fall on hard times, illness, elderly that have to leave their homes and are unable to take their beloved pets with them, there are many different reasons that people have to give their pets up for adoption. We also have a shopping list of things that you can pick up off the supermarket shelves, wash powder, washing up liquid, poo bags, hand wash and large black refuse bags. We will be grateful for any one of these items. We always need an abundance of towels and blankets in the winter months. Please don’t forget we have a super pet shop in our reception area at the Sanctuary, so if you’re looking for toys, beds, blankets etc. come along and have a browse. Last but not least we are trying to save a little dog that we have called Alice that was left at the side of a road to die. Please read the write up below. Many thanks to everyone that has supported us this year and continue to do so. Thanks to all the kennel and office staff you do a great job.

Help us Save Alice... She lay at the side of a busy road, she had given up and was waiting to die. She was eventually noticed by a kind person (not the Dog Catcher, thank goodness) who managed to catch her but she was still taken to a kill shelter. When we agreed to take Alice, she was Number 93, without a name and without hope, awaiting her fate like so many others. She was transferred to a safe pension, which came at a cost, and treatment was started for her skin and wellbeing. Alice is a mature dog, with only one eye - goodness knows how she lost it -but that doesn’t matter to us. We just want to give her a future that is safe and secure.

To save Alice, we need to raise funds to cover the following costs: £35 per day to keep her safe in the pension £100 to cover the cost of her treatment so far £20 for a 4DX test for heartworm etc £180 for her vaccinations (including Rabies), worming, micro-chipping and arranging her pet passport £200 for her transport to the UK and safety. Can you help us give Alice the life she deserves? Even a small donation will make such a difference If we all help, we will save a life............. Thanks a million

Happy Christmas and New Year. Best Wishes,

POLICE WARN PUBLIC OVER RECENT ONLINE SCAMS :Cyber criminals send victims their own passwords in extortion scam Cyber criminals are attempting to blackmail unsuspecting victims by claiming to have used the victims’ password to install spying malware on the victims’ computer. 'HDU )ULHQGV If we were to believe the many and varied advertisements found on television at this time of year, we would think that the celebration of Christmas was all and only about indulgence and acquisition. I have lost count of the number of times the phrase ‘treat yourself’ is used. And although this is now an integral part of the celebration of Christmas, it is not the whole story In fact, we need to return to the story, the story of a baby born in a Bethlehem stable, the place where Christmas began, to truly understand the season and to ‘live it’ to its fullest potential. The Raised Pedestrian Crossing at All Saints School is now in place, thanks to County Councillor Sheila Place and Highways. The work doesn’t stop here for Sheila, she is pressing for more crossings in our town, as is the Town Council. Thank you, everyone, for living with the week-long diversion, I haven’t heard one serious complaint despite the inconvenience it caused for drivers. UPDATE Remembrance Sunday. We are not accepting any individual crafters this year due to the reduced amount of space whilst the work is being carried out to the Town Hall building. Saturday 1st December is Pantomime Day – oh no it isn’t, oh yes, it is! - at the Town Hall. We will be hosting Talegate Theatre who will be performing Sleeping Beauty: start time is 2pm. As a small child I loved going to a pantomime, often accompanied by my grandparents – I suspect they enjoyed themselves as much as I did – and I don’t think my parents got much of a look in. One Christmas, my grandparents took me to see Little Red Riding Hood. I sat there, fascinated by the magical world evolving before me. I was totally engrossed in the story when I spotted the Big Bad Wolf hiding behind the trees on the stage. As he got nearer to Little Red Riding Hood, the audience began to call out “he’s behind youâ€? but each time Little Red Riding failed to see him. By now, I was thoroughly alarmed; as the audience fell silent in horror just as the Big Bad Wolf was about to pounce, I shouted out loudly “Quick,

Grandad, shoot him with your gun. Needless to say, the audience started to laugh and the moment of tension was lost for the poor actors – all thanks WR D ȴ YH \HDU ROG ZLWK D YLYLG imagination. But then, isn’t a bit of imagination and magic what all children need? - especially at Christmas.
