Cause for a Cuppa Hello and good morning … or whatever the time of day you may be reading this! Today was a pretty special day for me. My son, Chad, is taking a level 2 course in IT at Donny College. He has had a growing interest in the world of computers and especially in one particular area (we won’t go there at this point). Today we spent the majority of the day in Leeds, at a City and Guilds awards ceremony. Chad received a medal of excellence for his work in the level 1 IT course. It was quite a proud moment. There were only 111 such awards given over the years. It was great to accompany Chad there. It got me thinking about celebrating achievement. Though that was a rather big thing, there are loads of things that we can celebrate in our families … getting a pair of trousers on for the first time by themselves… a word spelled correctly … a kind deed done without being prompted. One thing I have found important is that we need to be on the look out for those moments of achievement. It is easy to let it go. But a word of thanks or encouragement has a wonderful way of being a pathway for other things. There are so many things around that knock us down. We all need words that will encourage us. Our children need words that will encourage us. You can be a deliverer of those words. If you would like to have a word about a struggle in your family, why not give us a ring? You are always welcome to our services at the Holmescarr Community Centre, Sundays @ 10.30. (Eric Simpson … 07828141472)

ROSSINGTON HISTORY GROUP. During the second half of February this year, Doncaster libraries held their first Heritage festival. All indications are that it was a great success and hopefully it will be repeated next year. The programme of events included two drop in sessions at Doncaster archives. The first session was to celebrate their thirty year anniversary as a Diocesan record office and a selection of original parish registers was displayed. Registers from the churches of St. Michael and St. Luke in Rossington can be viewed on request. Those held are:Baptisms Marriages Burials St. Michael 1538-1971 1538-1988 1592-1958 St. Luke 1916-1929 1949-1982 Other documents on display included a plague remedy, an excerpt from a churchwardens account book, dated 1826, for materials to fumigate a church after a funeral and a report in a parish register in 1538 recording the death “of a poor man, seeming to have been a lepar, found drowned in the River Torne”. The second session concentrated on maps and plans of the local area. On display was a selection of original documents including tithe and enclosure maps, estate maps and Ordnance survey maps. The archive holds many items relating to Rossington which can be seen on request, including land deeds (some dating back to the 1600s), copies of Enclosure acts and sales catalogues and plans. The final event of the festival was a talk by Peter Robinson, an archaeologist, who is one of the curators at the museum and responsible for three of the collections. Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery celebrates its centenary this year. It had very small beginnings, in fact, just one room in the Mansion House, promoted by the Scientific Society. It was so successful that the council was persuaded to allow the collection to be moved to Beechfield House in Waterdale, which opened in 1910 as the first recognised museum in Doncaster. As well as the museum and art gallery, it incorporated gardens, a hot house, a grotto and zoo. The collections outgrew the premises and it was decided to build a new museum in Chequer Road. The purpose built museum and art gallery was opened by Princess Margaret on 30 th October, 1964. From 20th March you will be able to visit the Centenary exhibition at the museum.
History Group Event to be held at Rossington Parish Community (Memorial) Hall Wednesday, April 14th at 10 am. Peter Robinson - Museum officer (archaeology) will talk about “The Archaeology of Rossington Bridge”. Please come and join us. Admission free.

Airport News by Clare Wilson, Environment & Community Manager Robin Hood Airport attracted the attention of aviation enthusiasts in February with the arrival of the world’s largest aircraft, the Antonov 225. Only one AN225 MRYIA (Dream) was ever built by the company ANTONOV and this giant of the skies, operated by specialist Antonov Airlines, Ukraine, landed in Doncaster to collect a generator which was urgently needed at a Power Station in Lahore, Pakistan. Paul Rodwell, Cargo Director from Peel Airports Group said: “The AN225 is the largest cargo freighter in the world and we are absolutely thrilled that it was able to land here in Yorkshire, a first for the region.” Moving from large aircraft to much smaller aircraft, the Airport is pleased to welcome the arrival of Kinch Aviation to the Airport Business Park. Kinch Aviation, run by Paul and Deborah Kinch, has relocated to Hangar 2 at Doncaster Sheffield Airport from Gamston Airport, in Nottinghamshire. Kinch Aviation maintain, service and repair corporate jets has moved in to Doncaster Sheffield Airport Business Park thanks to an upturn in business. Kinch Aviation was appointed as a Cessna Citation Authorised Service Centre in 2008 once they had completed a large investment in training, spares and tooling. The company was started in 2001 to provide high quality support to Business Aircraft in the North of England and today provides services for over 50 aircraft from across Europe and as far afield as Moscow and South Africa. Mike Morton, Airport Director said: “We are delighted to welcome Kinch Aviation to our growing network of businesses that have relocated to the airport business park. The fact that we are attracting such a high quality of businesses to Doncaster is great for the town and will no doubt have a positive impact on our business.” Kinch Aviation has grown rapidly over the last five years and now employs a local workforce of highly skilled engineers. Specialising in the Cessna Citation range of Corporate Jets Kinch employ 15 engineers and have 4 apprentices on their books at present from South Yorks and surround areas.
Following on from concerns raised by Bawtry residents at the recent Planning Committee in January, the Airport has commenced a portable noise monitoring programme in Bawtry. The programme started on the 17th February 2010 on St Martins Avenue and will move on to other locations in Bawtry throughout the year. The noise data obtained from the portable noise monitoring unit will inform residents of the exact noise exposure levels experienced at their property. Furthermore, the data will be used to review qualification for the Sound Insulation Grant Scheme offered by the Airport. For further information about noise monitoring please contact me at the Airport or email environment@robinhoodairport.com. And finally, for those who have had enough of the slippery conditions and chilly winds, easyJet, the largest UK airline, has launched a massive summer seat sale, with up to 25% off flights between 19
April and 15 July 2010. A wide selection of low-cost, frequent flights from Doncaster Sheffield can be booked now to Barcelona, Prague, Majorca and Faro as well as low cost flights every day to Amsterdam.

POLICE REPORT
BURGLARIES:
The areas of Rossington, Tickhill and villages, have recently been subject to a Speight of Burglaries. The offenders are entering the properties and stealing the car keys and taking the car. Advice from South Yorkshire Police is, make sure that doors are locked as a number of offences have been of a "sneak in type" where the offender does not have to force entry into the premises. Take car keys to bed so they are not easily accessible. If possible utilise a secondary method of securing your vehicle, i.e. wheel clamp, steering locks. SYP is doing a lot of work in regards to this problem, including an increase of patrols in the relevant areas, utilising the Road Policing and Road Crime Groups.
SPEEDING:
We have received a number of complaints of speeding in Rossington, Tickhill and the villages. SYP and DMBC are utilising various methods, incorporating the use of the speed guns and digital speed display devices. In the past month, 4 motorists have received fixed penalty notices, 3 have been sent on speed awareness courses and 10 have been stopped and verbally warned about their speed.
LOCAL PACT PRIORITIES:
1) Nuisance motorcycles, Brodsworth Way, and Rossington Welfare 2) Speeding Vehicles, various locations but mainly Stripe Road and Brodsworth Way estate 3) Burglary of Dwellings

Rossington Cricket Club – April News Well, after one of the coldest and worst weather winters of the 25 or so that I can remember, the spring will be in full swing at the time of reading, and the new cricket season will be just a couple of weeks away. The season commences properly on Saturday 24 April for the first team, although the first game at Rossington is Sat 1 May. There may be a preseason friendly at home prior to the official season opener for the lads to have a usually much needed run out on the grass? As I’ve highlighted in previous issues the club has remained busy in the closed season again this year with some continued success in the ‘All Saints Indoor Cricket League’. The team remained unbeaten in the second half of the season after Christmas – a run of 10 games to finish clear second in the final league table only behind Hatfield and winning 14 and losing 4 of their 18 games. Skipper Mick Richardson had the pick of the stats with 314 runs to top the run scoring chart and adding 8 wickets in total. Veteran Roy Nelson was the pick of the bowlers with 12 wickets in total. Hopefully competing well in this league will give us a bit of a head start on other teams when the outdoor season gets underway? There are also plans to extend the senior indoor league on Sunday afternoons to a junior Back: Mick Richardson, Andy Gardiner, Roy Nelson midweek league in 2010/2011 which will be good Front: Stewart Groves, Alex Rowland, Scott Wood for the juniors involved. The clubs winter netting sessions also held at The All Saints School on Monday evenings have also proved popular with up to 30 players of all ages attending some weeks. These sessions finish at Easter and it is likely that the summer sessions will revert to their usual Friday evening 6pm – 8pm slot at the cricket ground, West End Lane, Rossington – though this will be published and advertised once confirmed. Youngsters of ages 8+ (boys and girls) are welcome and all basic kit is supplied by the club at these sessions. The club has again significantly strengthened its First team squad through the winter and under the captaincy of Stewart Groves will be aiming for a second promotion in 3 years from Division 2 of the South Yorkshire Senior Cricket League after consolidating and winning the cup competition last year. The Second team will be looking to benefit also from the squad strengthening by finishing high in Division 2 of the Doncaster Senior Cricket League before this league merges with the Sheffield Cricket League in 2011. Led by Colin Sherrington the Second team will have a very competitive blend of youth and experience and are well worth keeping an eye on this year! Full details of all upcoming club fixtures and events are available at – www.rmcc.playcricket.com where results and scorecards are also added throughout the season and you can help support and raise funds for the club by doing your on-line shopping through our commission based website – www.buy.at/rossingtoncricketclub . It would also be nice if we have a few games to rearrange this summer due to clashes with World Cup football games – but we’ll have to see about that….! Tickhill & District Lions You will all be aware that Tickhill & District Lions raise money and give our time to help good causes within our community of Tickhill, Wadworth, Rossington, Harworth, Bircotes, and Bawtry. However, together with the 900 other clubs within the UK & Ireland and over 45,000 clubs worldwide, we also raise money to help those in need around the world. When we do this we are very careful to ensure that the money we donate gets directly to the people who need it, and we frequently choose to support projects through the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF). So this month I wanted to update you all on some of the work that the LCIF has been doing recently to help those in need. I am sure that everyone remembers where they were when news of the devastating 7.0 earthquake in Haiti broke. After the earthquake struck, Lions Clubs immediately responded, and through donations from individual clubs like Tickhill & District Lions, the LCIF has mobilized nearly US$2.4 million to date. The LCIF, like all Lions organisations, funds its own administrative costs and so ensures that every penny donated is spent directly on the humanitarian project, often enlisting the help of Lions Clubs local to the area where help is needed. In Haiti more than 3,000 people are now being sheltered in three tent cities in Delmas, Blanchard and Carrefour-Feuille that Haitian Lions have established. Lions are continuing to work to provide sanitation, kitchens and health clinics, and the LCIF is also leveraging Lions' donations through collaboration with other NGOs and corporations providing relief. One of Lions' greatest strengths is the support we give to our fellow members in times of need. When disasters strike, LCIF and Lions from around the world are there to support one another. Our collective response to the disaster in Haiti is a great example of how the money you donate through Tickhill & District Lions helps those in need around the world as well as within our community. If you’d like to learn more please visit the ‘News & Events’ page on our website (www.tickhill-lions.com) where you will find a short video about the work we’re doing in Haiti as well as links to the LCIF website which has more information and examples of other ways that Lions help.
