In the quote above, Leo Buscaglia speaks of many ways of showing that you care, and that as a society we care about all of those around us. Random acts of kindness, however small, have the power to at the very least put a small smile on someone’s face. So even if you don’t have a special someone in February perhaps you could have a go at extending some love. As always, we welcome some new advertisers this month as well as lots of long-standing ones who continue to advertise within our pages as a great way of getting customers. If you contact any this month don’t forget to tell them where you found them. The March issue will be delivered to you late February. Cause for a Cuppa Happy February to everyone! This is the time of year when stopping inside with a warm brew sounds the thing to do. The days will get longer and the temperature will rise. Hang in there. A couple of weeks ago (JUST after Christmas), someone on FaceBook posted a picture of Easter eggs for sale. Argh! Really? Well, February isn’t known for Easter eggs but for Valentine’s Day. I thought we could take a couple of months to think about something I know ZHȇYH QHYHU WRXFKHG RQ Č? KDYLQJ D ČŠIDLU Č´ JKWČ‹ What a minute Eric! I thought Valentine’s Day is about hearts, love, kissing and ‌ well, whatever. Yes, those are the really nice bits. But is anyone out there in a relationship who could honestly say “we QHYHU Č´ JKWČ‹" 6RPH PD\ VD\ ČŠQRW XVČ‹ 5DUH FDVHV GR happen. There are normally 2 paths to that situation. One is a couple that has been together so long they properly understand each other. But even at that, WKHUH ZLOO 67Ζ// EH GLVDJUHHPHQWV $ Č´ JKW GRHVQȇW have to mean the knock down, drag out variety. A second path is the more common ‌ apathy. The couple that has grown distant over time and just don’t care any more. But for the bulk, disagreements are a reality so let’s think about that for a bit.. (DFK SHUVRQ EULQJV GLÎ? HUHQW EHOLHIV EDFNJURXQG DQG how they were fetched up into a relationship. DONCASTER CANCER DETECTION TRUST We are thrilled to report that our Memory Tree in the Frenchgate Centre in the run-up to Christmas raised ÂŁ5,640! 6W 0LFKDHOȇV 6LQJ LQWR 6XFFHVV On Wednesday 9th January 2019, 45 of our Year 5 and 6 children attended the Young Voices Concert at ShefČ´ HOG $UHQD )RU WKH SDVW \HDUV Young Voices has staged the largest FKLOGUHQȇV FKRLU FRQFHUWV LQ WKH ZRUOG Over 2 million children have taken part in a Young Voices concert and Young Voices believe passionately in LQVSLULQJ WKH QH[W JHQHUDWLRQ WR Č´ QG WKHLU ORYH IRU music. Each night, between 5,000- 8,000 children perform as a single choir to a sold-out audience of family and friends. Their aim is to inspire a love of music and create memories for children that will last a lifetime. In preparation for the concert the children attended weekly rehearsals, led by Mr Porter. These rehearsals included practicing not only the songs but also the dances that accompanied them. Some of these songs included Moana Mashup, Fight Song, Thank you for the days, Any dream will do, Pop Medley and The Greatest Showman. Each year, the concert welcomes famous artists, this year the children had the opportunity to sing along side Tony Hadley, Sharlene Hector DQG %HDX 'HUPRWW 6RPH RI RXU VWDÎ? DOVR KDG the chance to have meet Tony and have their photograph taken with this star. The children spent the afternoon rehearsing and then awaited their parHQWȇV DUULYDO DW WKH arena. At 7:00, the arena was plunged into darkness and the music started. The children performed each song with such enthusiasm and dedication. One of our most favourite songs was the pop medley. We were incredibly proud of all of the children who attended as they behaved remarkably and were wonderful ambassadors for the school. We ZRXOG DOVR OLNH WR WKDQN DOO WKH VWDÎ? DQG YROXQ teers who attended and gave up their time to make this experience possible. What an experiHQFH IRU RXU FKLOGUHQ DQG ZH FDQȇW ZDLW IRU QH[W year!

HFW RI WKRVH SUREOHPV RQ WU\LQJ WR PHHW on a Sunday morning. We also have had to think about the viability of the maintenance of the premises when folk are not able to do as much as they once were, or would like to be able to safely do. Over the past few years, we have had a conversation several times about the future of the church and have explored many ways of continuing. On the morning of Monday 12th November though, the church council met and after prayer and careful consideration reached the unanimous EXW GLÉ? FXOW GHFLVLRQ WKDW 5RVVLQJWRQ 0HWKRG LVW &KXUFK ZLOO FHDVH WR PHHW DQG WKDW WKH Č´ QDO service will be 2.30pm Sunday 24th February 2019, at the end of the next printed preaching plan, and will be followed by refreshments. All are welcome. :H NQRZ WKDW WKLV FKXUFK KDV EHHQ D VLJQLČ´ FDQW place to many in the village who have grown up through the Sunday School, and used it for family rites of passage like baptisms, weddings and funerals. The Santa Float We are never too old for Santa. He brings a smile to all our faces, young and the ‘not so young’. This year he, his volunteer drivers and collectors had to endure possibly the worst rain storm (Saturday 15th) that any of us can remember. Yet credit to them and to you for your support throughout the Christmas period and especially that horrid night. A huge thank you also to Chris Gravill of Marshalls Volkswagen, Scunthorpe for the loan of the vehicle and to Ian Laycock of ProAktive Ltd for helping with the risk insurance. Tornedale loses one of its greatest assets... Mrs Purcell in the school office! At Christmas, after 32 years dedicated service to pupils, parents and staff at Tornedale Infant School, Mrs Purcell decided that it was time for her to retire from her position as School Business Manager. Fortunately, Mrs Purcell has agreed to continue in her role as a School Governor so we won’t lose her invaluable experience and the children will still get to see her from time to time. Mrs Purcell’s last day was on Wednesday 19 December and the children and staff ensured she had a good send off with flowers, cards and gifts to thank her for being the best School Business Manager a school could ever hope for and wishing her a well deserved happy retirement.
