(sorry to mention Christmas). It has been a period of change in our household, firstly as we modernise our home, getting rid of the 70’s/80’s fixtures and décor and turning it slowly into a modern family home, with a lot of dust and mess along the way. Secondly, as we get used to a slightly quieter home after taking to our daughter to start at University last weekend. It is early days yet but it seems she is having a fantastic time! If like me you are planning to be organised this year and not have that busy last-minute rush then you might want to start looking through these pages and getting things booked in. Everyone from decorators through to dog groomers and from chimney sweeps through to curtain makers, get increasingly busy as the festive season gets nearer, some are already taking bookings for 2018! Whatever you want to get done before Christmas, be that lose weight, shop for gifts and supplies locally, get your accounts sorted or revamp your home or garden, or any of 1001 other things, you are sure to find someone to help you in this magazine. Reach for the Stars School of Dance was established in 2000. Dance and Instagram page – rftsdance.

Starting initially in the village of Finningley before moving to Rossington in 2006.

There are now pre-school classes on Monday and Thursday evenings 4.00-4.30pm where parents can dance with their children and get them used to dance before transferring to one of the other classes at the age of 3/4 years. Children can join this class from as young as 18 months.

On September 1st 2013 it opened up it’s very own dance studio in Rossington on the Oakleaf Industrial Estate. The studio is well equipped to provide everything needed for all dance classes with two studios, waiting area, changing room, toilet and kitchen facilities. There is also ample car parking.

$OO FODVVHV DUH WDXJKW E\ IXOO\ TXDOLÂż HG WHDFKHUV DQG are all fully trained with the IDTA. Classes start from ÂŁ2.50 per class.

The school has something on offer for every age and taste. Classes are held in IDTA Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz, Theatre Craft, Musical Theatre (Song and Dance), Freestyle/Street, Gymnastic Dance, Freestyle competitions and festival work.

The start of our new school term has been packed with lots of exciting activities. Our Year 5 classes welcomed a Tudor experience GD\ IURP WKH JURXS Ȇ5HDO +LVWRU\ $OLYHȇ 7KH FKLOGUHQ spent the day experiencing life as a Tudor child, they travelled back in time to learn about the Tudor’s favourite pastimes and also heard about some of the more gruesome parts of Tudor history. 2XU <HDU DQG FKLOGUHQ WUDYHOOHG WR 'RQFDVWHU 0XVHXP WR OHDUQ DERXW WKH 5RPDQV DQG KRZ WKH 5RPDQV ZHUH D NH\ SDUW RI 'RQFDVWHUȇV KLVWRU\ 7KH\ KDG WKH RSSRUWXQLW\ WR GUHVV XS DV 5RPDQV H[SORUH GLÎ? Then we went pond dipping and caught some pond snails, Č´ VK SRQG VNDWHUV DQG D EORRG ZRUP :H DOVR IRXQG a fairy toadstool and thought that a fairy lived there. We had an amazing time. During our lessons we learnt a phrase and to help us remember we used the letters SWAT, do you know what SWAT stands for? Holiday Ramblings As the temperatures drop and the nights draw in, we remembering fondly our summer holidays. Be it a beach resort on an island far away, or a poolside family all inclusive hotel in the Med? Maybe it was a Caribbean cruise or a knuckle ride adventure in Disneyland? Perhaps a caravan by the sea, or camping in the middle of nowhere. Whatever type of holiday there will be moments to remember forever. Me I couldn’t have a holiday this year, EXW Ζ ORYH ZDONLQJ Ζ GRQȇW PHDQ PLOHV along the Pennine Way walking, but short lead ones, for example with the Doncaster 5DPEOHUV Ζ DOVR ORYH ZDONLQJ LQGHSHQGHQWO\ using a guide book, or a map, compass, and the trusty waymarker posts. Ask me what I love about walking, and I could say, it’s the exercise and the air in my lungs, they say we don’t get enough of it. I could say it’s the views, those wide open vistas, babbling brooks, or forest glades that surprise me at every turn. We live in a beautiful county. I could say it a sense of achievement reaching the top of those hill, or even navigating my way back home. The feeling of well being is better than any pill. But what I remember most from a whole host of wonderful experiences is standing by D ȴ HOG JDWH IXOO RI KRUVHV DQG WKHP FRPLQJ up and spontaneously licking my face, LQFUHGLEOH 2U ZDONLQJ WKURXJK D ȴ HOG WR EH IROORZHG E\ D Ⱦ RFN RI FKLFNHQV SULFHOHVV Or walking out of a wood the be confronted by a wall of seven foot high corn on the cob plants. Boston Park Farm Tearooms & Maize Boston Park Farm Tearooms and Maize Maze is a fantastic place to take young children to play in the indoor and outdoor play areas. The Maize Maze is open until the end of October, 5km of paths which, being only 5 feet wide, give the feeling of exploring through the jungle. Open from 10am until 5pm at the weekend and until 4pm on weekdays, admission to the farm and maize maze is £6 each for adults and children (3+), £3 for toddlers (1&2 yrs) and £20 for a family ticket (any 4 adults & children), babies under 1yr are free. You don’t have to do the maize maze when you visit though and entry to the Farm only is £1 for adults, £5 for children (3 – 12 yrs.) and £3 for toddlers (1&2 yrs)

play areas and they have just opened a brand new indoor soft play area suitable for under 8’s which is brilliant for showery days. There is also a new indoor sandpit barn and a bouncy castle which is open all the time (weather permitting). Shriek Week runs from the 23rd – 31st October when there will be a pumpkin hunt around the maize, pumpkins for sale, pumpkin carving, free crafts and lots of other activities throughout the week. Then on 29th, 30th, and 31st October they open from 6-9pm each evening for the fantastically amazing Shriek Nights. Go along and hunt around the maize for pumpkins but also watch out for other scary surprises too! Each evening there will be hot/cold drinks, BBQ, a disco plus other fun and games.

There are all the animals to see and feed, including alpacas, goats, donkeys, sheep, chickens and pigs. Weekends at 11:30 and 2:30 they get the rabbits and guinea pigs out for a cuddle. Plus, there are lots of outdoor

It is very fortunate that this JUHHQ VSDFH RQ WKH 5DGEXUQ HVWDWH ZDV saved for the community by our recent Ward Councillors, past Councillor Clive Stone and in a small measure myself, with the support of the Parish Council. As everyone is aware, the problems still H[LVW DURXQG WKH /RUU\ 3DUN DQG 7UDÉ?F movements around the Bankwood Estate. At the moment, the Fly pestilence seems to have abated, although there are still some concerns. This is still being monitored and we are constantly vigilant regarding the current operations taking place. It would seem that the Lorry Park planning application is “ Stuck in the Mud “, or so to speak. DMBC planning committee has been stalled and they only received an update on the current investigation by Planning Enforcement ??? For what it’s worth! Maybe behind the scenes, there is progress to meet all our concerns and problems, so I am striving to obtain some proper explanation. :LWK UHJDUG WR +ROPHVFDUU *UHDW :RRG DQ DVVXUDQFH KDV EHHQ JLYHQ E\ +DUZRUWK Group and DMBC Woodland section, that measures are in place to resolve the drainage problem, but sadly as always this takes time, so we will persist in keeping pressure to ensure the wood is not forgotten. Rossington Parish Council • October 2017 Hello Rossington Residents. Rossington Activity Programme (RAP) Funded by Rossington Parish Council During the school holidays, I had the pleasure of visiting the RAP activities. The Street Art on the skateboard park attracted a lot of young people, they made a great job of their very own slogan “every rose has a thorn”. I visited the Holmescarr Arks and Craft where I met a new friend Millie who used her creative skills in the pot making session. On my way out I popped into the Library where it was Animal Agents Summer Reading Challenge 2017. Those taking part received special stickers to complete a folder. Once the stickers have been collected readers will be able to crack the case and catch the criminals. One 3-year-old girl was cutting out a picture to make a jigsaw. They were all having great fun with parents and children concentrating very hard on the activities.

Lots of local residents had a great time. I had a go at Archery, part of the activities put on by DMBC and EPIC. Pride of Rossington Award Ceremony On Saturday 16 September, Rossington 3DULVK &RXQFLOȇV ȴ UVW 3ULGH RI 5RVVLQJWRQ Award Ceremony took place. I hosted the event whilst the Civic Mayor George Derx and his wife Pauline presented the awards. The winners were Child: Harry Nicholson; Young Person: Danny King; Adult: Doreen Rhodes. The 3 runners up adults were Mark Porter, /RXLVH &KDSSHOO DQG /LOLDQ &OD\WRQ Ȃ DOO 9(5< worthy nominees. Jack Edwards, the winner of Rossington’s Got Talent entertained us with the Queen track “I want to break free” which got a loud applause. A great night was had by all.

Update from Councillors

Your DMBC Councillors As with most months as Councillors there have been good things happening in the village such as the holiday activities programme and the Rossington Pride Awards; along with the spate of burglaries that have affected so many people in the village, whether individual businesses that have been established for a number of years or schools and community groups that have had their premises burgled or damaged. At the time of writing we have been informed that some people have been apprehended for being involved in this but the impact can last many years after those responsible have been caught. More details about the positive things happening are provided below. New Dog Fouling Signs at the Welfare New signs have been put up at the Welfare as part of the new Public Space Protection Order for dog fouling and control that has been implemented throughout the borough. There is a dedicated web page that explains all about the orders http://www.doncaster.gov.uk/ pspodogcontrol. The new signs inform dog owners that during events, dogs must be on a lead and the additional sign means that if ordered to do so by an authorised officer, dogs must be put on a lead if they are considered to be dangerous. Rossington Activities Programme (RAP) Hundreds of children and young people took part in the fantastic programme of holiday activities in the village. It was probably one of the best programme of activities, offering something for children and young people of all ages on most days of the week, in Doncaster if not in South Yorkshire. The activities were all provided free of charge due to funding by the Parish Council, but it was all the volunteers who work for the community groups who made the activities possible by running sports, crafts, music, song writing and rookie life guard courses to name just a few of the activities. This year we put on a course for older young people – a life guard course at the pool which was well attended. Some of these young people have already gone onto getting jobs which is a great achievement for the course. Another one of the activities was Rossington’s Got Talent which saw an array of very talented children (the youngest being 7), dancing, singing, doing gymnastics and entertaining all the judges and all the families who attended to support. Huge congratulations to Jack who was this year’s winner and Mel, Dylan, Harry and Chloe who performed brilliantly in the final. It was on the back of this event that Mandy at the Welfare got a call one day from….. Britain’s Got Talent For the first time ever, the Welfare will have hosted Britain’s Got Talent. The producers heard about how successful RGT was and whilst they will be in Doncaster 42 ROSSINGTON TODAY

they wanted to do another event in the village. We are hoping that this has been well attended and really puts Rossington on the map. Pride of Rossington Awards The Parish Council held their Pride Awards in September with awards for younger and older children and adults who had made such a difference to Rossington. It was a lovely evening at the Welfare, the tables were decorated beautifully, there was a fantastic buffet and the event was well attended by residents. Also, it was an opportunity to hear about the amazing work that so many people are doing to make Rossington a great place. Well done to the Parish Council for a fantastic evening and thank you to all the nominees for all their hard work. Hesley Road Consultation We have mentioned before about the improvements that St Leger are making to various estates and a consultation is underway for Hesley Road residents to improve parking. Every year, councillors are asked to put forward roads and estates that are most in need of improvement – do get in touch any time about this so we can ensure all your concerns are added to the list that we submit. Lorry Park Residents are saying that the fly problem got better some weeks ago but there remains a problem with the number of lorries coming onto the Bankwood Estate. Attero, in response to residents’ concerns, have, as a short term measure until a better solution can be found, reduced the opening times of the lorry park, although this doesn’t prevent lorries from going into the site as long as it is during their opening times. The lorry park no longer opens on a Saturday and is opening after 8/8.30am the rest of the week. Please do let us know any concerns you have at any time about lorries going onto the Bankwood estate.
