It is hard to believe that already I am putting together the Christmas edition of Tickhill Today, how this year has flow by. Excitement is mounting in our household—no not for Christmas itself, but for the STWCC production of Bugsy Malone! Charlotte has been rehearsing since the summer for her part as Blousy Brown (Bugsy’s girlfriend). We will be watching on the Thursday night when Charlotte and 2 other Tickhill students will be in the main roles, but if you can make it, I am sure that you will be in for a treat whatever night you go. The January issue will be delivered to you around New Year time. Please ensure that anything that you would like to be included in it is with me by Friday 9th December. Once again I shall be nearly as busy as Santa this December so your help in meeting this deadline would be very much appreciated! While it does seem very early (I am writing this mid-November) I would like to take the opportunity to wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas.

So, what have the Nursery been doing recently and what have they got up their sleeves for one of the most excitable times of year (for the staff as well as the children!)?
During October, we had a “People Who Help Us” week and several visitors came to see the children. There was a riot van from the police, an ambulance, a fire engine and an RAC van. The children were able to have a good look inside each and ask questions to the very kind people who came to see us. We also had a science teacher come in and do a brilliant demo on volcanoes. The end of October saw us raising money for Breast Cancer with a pink themed Halloween party where the children enjoyed games, songs, and party food while decorating cakes and biscuits to be sold on to raise funds this worthy cause. Thank you to everyone who bought a balloon, cake or biscuits (and thank you to KSM for their very kind contribution!)! At the time of writing this, the children are busy practising for their performance at St Marys Church at 6.30pm for the Tickhill Christmas event on November 24th. They will be singing a variety of Christmas themed songs for their parents to hear which gets us all in the Christmas mood! We will be taking the children to Hill House School to see their Reception Class perform their annual pantomime. Thanks to the generosity of Hill House for organising this and providing safe transport for the children! Zoolabs will be returning with their nativity themed show which gets the children thinking about the kinds of animals and insects that might have been seen during Joseph and Mary’s journey to Bethlehem. They will also bring a variety of lovely reptiles and insects... And last but not least...Santa is coming! So, as usual we are busy, busy, busy! If you would like to hear more phone Sue, Michelle or Lucy and ask them about a visit to give your child the chance to experience the Nursery! mprove your eating habits today!
Hello again and welcome back. I hope you all found last month’s article useful and tried implementing its advice and tips into your life to improve your health and fitness. This month I’d like to give you a few simple tips on how to change your eating habits for the better:Avoid fad diets – They are too restrictive, unrealistically complex, many are too low calorie and once you become fed up with the weighing, and general ‘faffing’ you’ll end up even heavier due to their slowing effect on your metabolism. Have a cheat meal – Once a week have what you fancy. This keeps you sane, increases your motivation to stick to healthy eating the rest of the week and means you don’t have to give up your favourite unhealthy treats. Drink enough water – Our bodies often confuse hunger and thirst and water helps the body break down fat, so aim for the recommended 2 litres a day. Carbs are not the enemy – We need them for energy and our brain uses them for fuel, like any other nutrient just don’t overdo it. Aim for the majority of your carbs at breakfast, fewer at lunch and minimal after 5pm. Also try to get your carbs from complex sources such as oats, brown rice and sweet potato. Portion control – Use a smaller plate if you have to. Piling your plate with food means you’ll aim to finish it all hungry or not. Going back for seconds makes you question whether you actually need any more. Use a fat photo – Keep your partners and children’s ‘treats’ in one cupboard, then take that fat photo we’ve all got from your last holiday/party and stick it on the back of the cupboard door. Paula’s Challenge Thank you to everyone who has stopped Paula in the street/playground/ supermarket and commented on how she is doing, and checked her shopping basket! It has been a difficult month for Paula with a weeks holiday, a celebratory weekend at Center Parcs (with 24 members of her pudding loving family) and various other social commitments, and she has been hampered by a sprained ankle that has curtailed her exercise regime. But, she has been heartened by the fact that where she would normally have gained weight during a month like that, she has in fact continued to lose a couple of lbs. Not as many as she would have liked, but she is now determined to step up the pace and ensure that at least another half a stone is gone before Christmas! Tickhill St Mary’s and the Community Part of our school ethos is to help those less fortunate than ourselves and the children and parents at St Mary’s have done so to far greater extent than could be expected in these difficult times. Every year the children decorate and take home harvest envelopes to put some of their pocket money into and ask for any donations from friends and family. The money has in the past gone to many worthy causes such as Bluebell Wood Hospice and Sheffield Children’s Hospital. This year we decided that the money should be given to Diabetes UK. This was because one of our former pupils developed type one diabetes last year and many of the envelopes carried the message: Cure Sam! This heartfelt involvement by the children was reflected in the amount collected: A massive £450 was handed over to Sally Wilford from Diabetes UK and it was lovely that Sam was able to join us for the presentation looking smart in his secondary school uniform! The pupils and their families have also been sending in Shoe boxes with small gifts and toiletries for Operation Christmas Child. These boxes are shipped to poor children all over the world who would not receive anything for Christmas were it not for people’s kindness and generosity here. Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest children’s Christmas appeal with all shoeboxes given to children in need, with no regard to their background or beliefs. They work with local partners on the ground to ensure that the gift-filled shoebox is delivered with integrity and with respect to the local culture. Where culturally appropriate, the overseas partners will make available a booklet of Bible stories, which gives a message of hope and an explanation of the true meaning of Christmas - God's gift of His Son, Jesus. This year we will be sending off 36 boxes. Thank you to everyone who gave so generously to both appeals! Katarina Martin School Secretary
Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child SHOE BOX COLLECTION. Many thanks for all the help you have given towards creating Shoe Boxes filled with toys, writing materials and hats and gloves for under privileged children. This year we were able to send 193 boxes. Children have to supply their own equipment at school and as most parents cannot afford to buy these things the children cannot be educated. When they receive a shoe box they will be able to go to school. The children are just amazed to think someone they do not know and who they will never meet has gone to all this trouble for them. estoration of Old Water Mill, Limestone Hill Farm Tickhill Limestone Hill Mill was built c.1803 , a three storey stone structure which was working until the 1920s, when the Mill Dam was destroyed by silt from the newly sunk Maltby Colliery. From then on the building was in a poor state of repair becoming a virtual ruin. However the machinery remained intact, including the waterwheel and much of the internal gearing. This mill represents one of only four water-powered corn mills in the county and is considered to be of great historical significance for the local area .Being aware of its significance the current owners Duncan and Imelda Dewar as part of a countryside stewardship scheme obtained grants from Defra and Natural England to preserve the building as an example of industrial, archaeological interest. rive for Diema
Michael Carroll from Tickhill, sadly died aged 37. The already sad news was made even more upsetting to Mick’s family and friends due to the fact that he was planning an adventure to help him look at life in a whole new light. The planned trip was not a usual holiday resort of relaxation and sunbathing, it was to be a trip taken by car which was filled not with usual holiday luggage, but luggage which they planned to lug for thousands of miles to a cause more than worth helping. Although Mick sadly died before he had the opportunity to undergo his amazing quest to help others the trip is to still go ahead in his honour and has become a massive operation. Drive for Diema has continued to be organised to help the people of Mali, West Africa. The plan is to get as many vehicles and volunteers as possible to fill their cars with donated items such as medical supplies and equipment, clothing, farming tools, solar panels, computers and books. The items would then be transported to the people of Diema, Mali, where it will make such an amazing difference to many lives. Drive for Diema is on behalf of an African, non-profit charity called Village Ventures. The Drive is planned to go ahead in February next year and is looking for your help! The conditions in Mali are poor right from education to health. The charity is looking to improve the quality of life and give children a real chance at a normal education, build wells to allow food to be grown and save lives, to help develop hospitals and provide medicines; basic things in life many people take for granted. Any donation, no matter how big or small is welcome. Any volunteers to drive or help out are also welcome, posters and collection boxes have been put around Tickhill to help raise awareness of the cause and collect any donations. ARISH ROOM NEWS As we hurtle towards the end of 2011 Tickhill Parish Room looks back over a very successful year. We've had bookings for almost every occasion in the social calendar, including funeral teas, wedding receptions, christenings, first birthday parties and 'older' birthday parties, slimming, yoga, pilates, dancing, zumba. We've had coffee mornings, political meetings, meetings relating to health issues, council meetings, Christian Fellowship meetings and Health Visitors meetings. We've had the Flower Club, the WI, a Lenten lunch, private dinner parties and John Marsden's choir lunches! There isn't much we haven't 'had' this year! Hopefully 2012 will continue to be as successful - and as varied. We will be open for refreshments for the Late Night Shopping Event on the 24th November, from 5.30 p.m. John Sweed will be serving up his fabulous crepes, we have gift stalls, mince pies and mulled wine plus tea and coffee. Tickhill Running & AC will be providing an introduction to running course starting on Tuesday January 10th 2012. The course lasts for 10 weeks and is designed for non-runners. n update from Tickhill & District Lions First of all a huge thank you for all who attended the bonfire & fireworks night at The Oak on the 6th of November. The night was a tremendous success and with an estimated 1000+ people coming along it was by far our busiest bonfire event yet. A quick reminder about our annual Grand Christmas Draw which as usual has a host of fantastic prizes; 1st prize: Kindle 3G e-reader, 2nd prize: Wilfreda city break for two, 3rd prize: £100 Food Hamper, 4th prize: £100 fuel voucher, 5th prize: 15lb Turkey. We’re all rocking around the Christmas tree at Wadworth ! Christmas time As it is getting closer to the most exciting and expensive time of year, Wadworth is getting ready for Christmas time. Everyone in the school (mostly teachers because they can get away from the children) are very excited. The school is organising a disco and Christmas fair at the end of this term. Everyone is welcome and allowed to bring their children to the Christmas fair. There will be lots of fun and games such as wine or water where you have to pick a bottle is it wine inside or water? And a raffle where you can win lots of fantastic prizes and hook a duck.
Year 4 trip to Robinwood During the second to last week of term the Year Four pupils went on a trip to Robinwood and here is a quote from two children, “We did piranha pool, zip-wire, giant swing, archery, night-line (zip lining in the dark )and caving (the caves are man -made)” They all came back with huge smiles on their faces. After the visit all of the parents of the year 4 children got a letter home saying how well they all behaved. Remember to keep up with our articles .

This is a brand new site, sponsored by the Town Council and provides a lot of useful information for residents and visitors alike. As part of a National initiative, South Yorkshire Police have, in Sheffield, trialled the use of the telephone number 101 to report activities/behaviour/ incidents to the Police. This has now been rolled out to the Doncaster area – so instead of dialling 0114 220 2020 you should now dial 101. USTOMER SERVICE One of the many pleasing features of the town is the friendliness of most of the inhabitants. Perfect strangers will greet you in the street with a smile and a ‘Good morning’ to brighten a gloomy day. As a rule the shop assistants, receptionists and others are also both obliging and pleasant. In some places the banter and lively Yorkshire exchanges can be more entertaining than many a TV comedy programme. The whole atmosphere can be relaxed and good humoured. But there are just one or two assistants who are not quite so agreeable. These few are generally very efficient workers and apply themselves to the job in hand with speed and diligence. The Management will no doubt be well pleased with their contribution. But from a customer’s point of view there is something missing. The approach is not ‘How may I help you’ but more like a curt ‘Yes?’. As they quickly respond to whatever has been asked for, the assistant may be holding a conversation with a colleague rather than giving the customer undivided attention. They can be talking about their holidays, or the children or whatever they were doing last night in a lively and friendly manner so they are not fundamentally unsociable. It is just that their dealings with customers seem to be rather brusque or seemingly off hand. This cannot be good for business. If we prefer to have speedy, impersonal service the supermarket is the place to shop. There you are an anonymous trolley with a wallet or debit card, not a familiar person. Some places have mere machines at the checkout which give instructions in a flat, mechanical voice. The nervous may even feel that they may shout ‘Exterminate! Exterminate!’. The whole event is a slick, impersonal business transaction. Local shopping should not be like that. It is doing business in a social setting. Some people living alone often go to town largely for the chance to meet people, exchange pleasantries, chat and feel that they belong. If greeted by name it is a nice bonus. These exchanges may be their main contact with other people on some days. It is here that shop assistants and other business people have a vital part to play. It is not helpful if the customer perceives the place as unfriendly or off-hand. Of course it has to be admitted that some of we customers are not always as polite as we could be. It is better to make a civil request than issue an impatient command. Giving orders is an approach that may produce an unsympathetic response. Politeness, good manners and a dose of Tickhill friendliness can make shopping and business transactions an enjoyable experience. Every little helps, they say. Remembrance Day at Tickhill Estfeld
November 11th is always a very poignant day in school as we think about others who have given so much for the safety and security of others. We hold a special assembly and observe our two minute silence whilst we reflect on those past and present who have served and continue to serve their country with pride. This year our Reception pupils made their own poppies whilst the older classes presented their thoughts and feelings in poetry and prose. Our pupils have surprising insight given their ages and show great respect for those they are thinking about.

In school at Open Evening, Karen Booker held a sale of refreshments to make the wait for parents pass a little more quickly – this raised £190 for Macmillan. At Estfeld we regularly hold fundraising events for charities and good causes and some of our pupils continue their efforts outside of school. Pupils who deserve a special mention are Daisy and Amy Ellison who organised and took part in a sponsored walk around Tickhill recently raising a staggering £760 for Weston Park Hospital. Also to be congratulated are Rachael Thacker and Courtney Thickett who held a bake sale, raising over £100 (and still counting), which they are donating to Children in Need. Daisy wanted to do something to raise money to help people with cancer like our close friend Robert of Lindrick, so all on her own organised this sponsored walk on Saturday 15th October. Daisy drew her route out on a map that took us all off the beaten track around Papermill lane over the castle fields round the duck pond around Lindrick and along into the heart of Tickhill. She raised sponsorship before the walk took a bucket with her and has continued to collect donations ever since, managing to raise £760. Well done Daisy Zoie Ellison

Our Netball & Football teams were victorious in Lloret de Mar, Spain, during October half term. The U15 Football team and First XI won their tournament and games, and the Girls netball team were runners –up in their tournament. Holly Earl, Natasha Simpson and George Brookfield received a Doncaster Freemen Group Young People Award. This was presented at the Mansion House in Doncaster. ayors or Mayors? Next May, I hear, we will have the long delayed opportunity to decide at the ballot box whether or not we wish to continue in Doncaster borough with the office of elected executive mayor. This article is not intended to make a case either way locally, the judgement is yours to make, but to provide some background on what can be a very confusing situation. What’s in a name? Where the word ‘mayor’ is concerned, quite a lot. It certainly means very different things in different countries. The trouble is that it can either refer to the chief executive officer of a local authority or to the formal head who chairs meetings, represents the city or town and (at least for the year of office) is above party politics. Over time mayors in England have become the latter, rather like the monarchy, figureheads with civic duties to perform. My impression is that we like our mayors, turned out in their traditional robes and opening fetes and the like. In an effort to give local government more punch, Parliament introduced the idea of directly elected executive mayors, giving the same name to the person who is effectively the political leader of a local council as traditionally belongs to the civic figurehead. They also gave extra powers to this elected mayor, making her or him like a chief executive. It’s not surprising if we became confused. Unfortunately the two roles don’t mix and no individual could be expected to perform two full-time jobs at once. If Parliament had produced a different title for that elected leader and left ‘mayor’ for the dignitary, then it would be easier to make a proper judgement as to whether we like to elect directly the Council’s leader instead of he or she being elected indirectly by the councillors we choose. There are arguments both ways on this but it is certainly difficult if the elected mayor has a different outlook from the majority of the councillors. One final comment – London isn’t a fair comparison for any other place in Britain for the Mayor (Boris Johnson) is only responsible for very limited areas of activity, with the London Boroughs dealing with most local services themselves. And the Lord Mayor is also there to represent the City! John Hoare

Instead, we saw a film about Monet's garden at Giverny, depicting its changing beauty throughout the seasons. Thierry is rescheduled to speak at our February meeting. uses Update: Please keep supporting the proposals for the Maltby link bus service. Latest update is that buses will serve Maltby, Hellaby, Micklebring, Clifton, and Conisbrough. At the moment the service will continue to serve Doncaster, however fresh plans/ideas are being looked at to take the bus to Rotherham, Mexborough, or Meadowhall, instead of Doncaster. This is because it makes the journey longer to Doncaster, and current users said they will not use it to Doncaster. There is also 2 regular services to Doncaster (22/205). So new proposals are to take it to one of the above. I urge Tickhill Today readers to contact bus companies, local councillors (info in this magazine), the bus operator, Doncaster Community Transport, and Travel South Yorkshire. The changes are likely to be made in January 2012, however final decision is with Travel South Yorkshire, so if you want the service, then do your bit, get in touch, show your support. t Mary’s Churchyard Recently someone came into St Mary’s church to ask if there was anywhere where he could wash his face. He had been cutting the grass in the churchyard when his face, eyes and clothing had been spattered with dog faeces thrown up by the mower. He told us that this is a common occurrence. St Mary’s churchyard is a wonderfully peaceful place, and the people who use it benefit greatly from the work of the many volunteers and the staff of DMBC who look after it. It is spoiled, however, by the few individuals who allow their dogs to foul the area. The churchyard is consecrated ground, where people’s loved ones have been laid to rest over many centuries. People visiting family graves should not have to suffer the distress of finding them defaced by dog faeces. Is it too much to ask that all dog owners respect this special area, and the people who visit it, by cleaning up after their dogs? The Churchwardens

reen Oak Morris Men The Green Oak Morris Men cemented their return to Tickhill by arranging a Ceilidh, held at the Tickhill Institute, in support of Water Aid Africa. ayflower Animal Sanctuary, Narrow Lane Bawtry Christmas will be upon us before we know it, we cant believe how the weeks are flying by.
November last year was a nightmare that we have only just about gotten over! The snow made all our dog runs buckle, and it came through the ceiling in the large store room that we had. We can only hope that this year the weather will be kind to us, we would prefer it is the white stuff didn't appear at all! I know it can be great fun but not if you are trying to feed and keep dry 45 dogs and 50 something cats. We have lots of really lovely dogs in at the moment, Spaniels , a 5 month old chocolate Lab , in fact lots of really lovely pedigree dogs and x breeds. The cat/kitten situation is also the same we have the most beautiful kittens and adult cats that just need a lap to curl up on. So please if you are considering looking for a dog or cat please come along and speak to us. We will be happy to discuss anything with you and look to establish which of our dogs would suit your lifestyle. We enjoyed a puppy party last Sunday. All of the puppies that we have re homed over the last couple of months were invited, plus some puppies that just came for the fun. This is a really good way of introducing your puppies to different surroundings and getting used to social play. Everyone had a great time. We recently enjoyed collecting outside Pets at Home in Doncaster. With us came the 5 month old Labrador and a fully grown Lab (which actually is my own dog ). Everyone was so lovely and the puppy had a ball he was so good and really enjoyed all of the attention. While my dog took it all in her stride and wasn't fazed at all. The people of Doncaster are so generous and lots of money was raised. Pets at Home support us and they are kind enough to let us have a corner of the store to display some literature about our cats and dogs. We have some really important collections coming up soon two are street collection in Doncaster 11th Dec and 18th Dec after that we are holding a bag pack in Marks and Spencer on 24th Dec. If anyone is able to help with any of these collections even for a couple of hours it would be very much appreciated. Just give the mobile number a call. We will take lots of dogs with us so come and say hello if you are in the vicinity. We would also like to try and keep our shop in Manton Nr Worksop open 6 days a week but we require more volunteers again if you are interested and have a few hours to spare please call me. We would like to take this opportunity to say special thank you 's to everyone that has supported us throughout the year. Everyone that works at the Sanctuary. The ladies that do a fantastic job in our charity shop. All of the volunteers that work really hard either fund raising, dog walking or volunteer at the Sanctuary. Everyone that sends us warm bedding and food and everyone behind the scene's. Also a special thank you to Rene Farnworth who helps to keep our dogs warm over the cold winter months by making duvet's for their baskets Last but not least thank you to our dedicated team of dog listeners. First an apology. Last month we said that the new binders for our Occasional Papers would be on sale when the November edition of Tickhill Today hit your doormat. That proved to be over optimistic but by the time you read this article supplies will definitely have been delivered to KSM in Castlegate and to the Library and (unless already sold out!) will be on sale at £2.99 each. We apologise to all of you who asked for the binders in the first half of November only to be told they were not yet available. In October Jenny Stacey gave an interesting talk entitled “A Sniff of Snuff”. This included reference to the origins of snuff taking (snuff is a tobacco product) and a description of some of the many interesting snuff boxes which Jenny had on view. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately!) there was no snuff to actually sniff – maybe modern health and safety rules precluded that part of the performance. Anyway we thank Jenny for an interesting evening. At the time of writing (11th November ) tickets for our Christmas Social at the Millstone on December 15th have been selling very well and our limit may be reached in November. However, if when you read this you have not bought a ticket (£10 per head) but feel you would like to come please ring Dorothy Bradley on 752429 or email her at dorothy.bradley@btinternet.com You may be lucky and find there are still a few tickets left. ickhill Scouts We held our Jumble Sale on October 29th with great trepidation. It was held at the very end of the Autumn half term and we had not attracted a massive amount of material. Nevertheless, we opened the doors and the “jumblers” flooded in. After about 30 minutes it was all over and it was time to take stock of the situation. We had a small pile of bric-a-brac left and a few clothes. Much to our surprise and to our great pleasure we had raised in excess of £200!!. This can only be due to the quality of the jumble we had received and the generosity of our regular customers. So, thanks to all the people of Tickhill who had donated the jumble, thanks to all our sellers and even bigger thanks to our loyal customers. Our regular visitors tell me that they like coming to the Scout Jumble sale in Tickhill as we are very friendly and thoughtful. It costs very little to provide a warm drink and a seat out of the cold but it obviously pays dividends. We are now engaged on refurbishing all of the back rooms in the Scout and Guide HQ. Plans have been drawn up to create a comfortable office space in the smallest room at the back. This will be followed by working on the other back rooms. These rooms will be converted into one with seating, AV facilities and fully equipped presentation equipment. The work to be done is fairly simple and is hoped that it can be completed by Tickhill based businesses. 2011 has been one of those years which for myself has been punctuated with some totally unexpected highlights. I was invited to a Buckingham Palace Garden Party in July much to my complete surprise. Later in the year – November 5th – I was invited to attend the first national Scout and Guide thanksgiving service at Westminster Abbey. Every year, in February, the guides and Scouts have held a service to celebrate Thinking Day commemorating Lord Baden Powell’s birthday. This year a very low key event was held at Westminster Abbey as there were plans afoot to celebrate the strength of scouting and guiding in the UK with a national service to which 1500 long serving scout and guide leaders would be invited. This service was held as noted above and was very enjoyable despite the best efforts of Network Rail and East Coast Rail to scupper our homeward journey. Apart from the service and the unexpected taxi ride from Peterborough to Doncaster the most memorable part was a young man offering me his seat on the Tube! We are approaching the end of 2011 and the start of our 50 th anniversary of the current Scout Group. We have many events in the pipeline but the most obvious will be the change of the neckerchief that the scouts will wear and a commemorative badge. We are considering a celebratory service in March, an open day, a jubilee camp, a party and some other events which are really in their infancy. The whole scout group and Phoenix Explorer Scout Unit with the Brownies and Rainbows attended the annual Remembrance Day Service on Sunday 13 th November. What a wonderful sight to behold and what a credit to their parents. All the youngsters behaved themselves and no chiding words had to be spoken. On the Monday following the service, Monday Scouts spent the evening planting daffodil bulbs on Worksop Road corner and Castle Close corner as part of their Community Badge. Both troops will be having a night hike on the following Friday. As Christmas approaches and a new year beckons, on behalf of the Scout Group and Explorer Scout Unit I would like thank all those people who have contributed to the success of the group. There are many people who work away in the background making it all happen. Behind every leader is a husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend or family who give unstintingly of their time supporting our leaders and helpers. Without this support the youngsters in our group would have a much poorer scouting experience. Thanks to them all and long may they continue their support. Finally, I would like to wish everybody who has supported us a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year. Bob Kitchen. Group Scout Leader.

December is always a busy month and this year is no exception. Last month we saw the turning on of the lights and the late night shopping, and we look forward now to our carol service around the Buttercross on Christmas Eve. Let’s hope it’s not too cold, that the rain and snow stay away and we have a good attendance. The Salvation Army will be there to assist us. Not wishing to be a stick in the mud, but it has been brought to my attention that many cars are parking half on and half off the pavements, please could we refrain from this as it makes it difficult for pedestrians and the users of mobility equipment and especially for mums and dads with pushchairs and prams. If you have a drive please use it, you would moan if you didn’t have one! The Pavilion use is running a lot smoother now and I would like to remind you to put all the dates in the diary for bookings for next year, especially noting if you require the use of the kitchen? Footballers make a note if you require the shower block too and if you have to cancel please ensure you make a note in the diary as all invoices are raised from this. If anyone has to cancel please inform either of the caretakers, even a text will do, as this may prevent them from having a wasted journey. Beth 07926 810229 or Jamie 07926 808016 I also ask you kindly to pay your invoices promptly please, to keep costs down. I have also secured an Insurance policy for all users for Public Liability. For this current year there will be no increase in the hire charge to cover this but if you require this cover next year there will be a small fee. It was decided the Council would pay the premium for this year. During the next few months we hope to have the kitchen refurbished, and have new crockery, cutlery and utensils. With this it would be nice to see the Pavilion used more for children’s parties, christenings and maybe even the occasional wedding or funeral. We hold up to 100 guests and its ideal for children’s parties as we have the play area on the door step and we do not have to consider the carpet getting dirty as we have a washable floor covering! You can always contact either of our caretakers to make bookings and regular hirers can be invoiced monthly to make it easier for you. If you need to you can always drop Beth or Jamie a text. We are trying to make contact as easy as possible, as the Pavilion is only manned to the bare minimum to keep overheads down. Also Congratulations to Tickhill in Bloom for success in being awarded a Silver-Gilt (Community Local Group). Winter planting has now taken place to brighten our winter days with an array of colourful pansies. Well Done. This year has been a difficult one for the council with the transit of the clerks and the attendants. I only hope stability is found in 2012, as we make plans for our Diamond Jubilee Celebrations and look forward to Great Britain hosting the Olympic Games. There is much to look forward to. There remains little more to be said other than, Merry Christmas and a happy holiday period to you all, from Mayor R Hill, Tickhill Town Councillors, the Caretakers and myself the Clerk.
