Matt Pearcy and Joy D’Angelo Yavapai College now has nearly 70 faculty who have participated in the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric workshop over the last two years. That is a great step! But, there are more steps to be taken and we want to have the faculty decide how we should proceed.

Please join Matt Pearcy and Joy D’Angelo in a conversation as they share what they learned at the national Quality Matters conference and how Yavapai College might continue to improve our online courses using the Quality Matters program.

“This is My Canvas Course” Workshops

These short 30 minute sessions will be facilitated by faculty who ​ opened their courses up for the Open House and they will provide a short presentation about why and how they chose to design and use the tools they have in these courses. The sessions are informal and provide time for lots of questions.

Articulate Presenter is a tool that creates narrated PowerPoint Presentations. It also allows you to add quizzes, videos, and other media to make your narrated PowerPoint engaging to learners.

It is similar to Camtasia.

Turnitin is a plagiarism detection tool integrated into Canvas and it is available to all faculty. This session looks at how to create a Turnitin assignment, discovering what it looks like to a student, grading and date options, and options within Turnitin.

Panopto is the new Tegrity. With it, you can create videos from your webcam, computer screen, powerpoint, and more. In this hands­on workshop you will learn how it works to make videos, screen capture video lessons, as well as upload and manage videos for streaming over the internet.

Snagit is a screen capturing tool made by Techsmith, the same company that makes Camtasia.

Snagit is a little different in that it has a simpler interface and is more focused on images than video, though you can use it to make short videos like Jing. In this session, Andrea will share how she uses it in math courses.

Tania Sheldahl Yavapai College has developed a new Strategic Plan covering 2015­2020. One of the key strategic initiatives is Student Success with a goal to increase student completion rates without sacrificing academic quality. The hard work now begins in developing strategies that will increase retention, persistence, and completion. One possible solution that is gaining momentum nationwide is the concept of Pathways. Come learn some basic information about Pathways and what is needed to determine if this is a viable option for our institution and students.

Quizzes in Canvas are used to test your students understanding and assess comprehension of course material. The quiz tool is used to create and administer online quizzes and surveys. This session will explain how to import a publisher’s Test Bank in ExamView then import it to Canvas.

The Canvas app is designed to help instructors minimize their workload when grading student assignments by allowing you to review assignments at ease even when you're on the go. The SpeedGrader app pulls the same data as found in the desktop version of Canvas SpeedGrader.

Canvas is not the easiest place to dress up. A clean look is great, but having photos, color, interesting layout and other ways to give your online course an engaging look can be valuable. In this hands­on workshop, you will learn techniques to give your course a makeover, as well as offer navigational options beyond the modules.
