OFFICER HIGHLIGHT Humans of Texas-Oklahoma
By: Madison NguyenAfter almost three years of being in Key Club, I am honestly surprised by how much it has impacted my life. When I first joined, I did not expect much out of it. I was a freshman, and I thought that all I would be doing was volunteering. I would log onto my computer every Wednesday, sit there for half an hour, then go volunteering a few times a month. However, I have changed a lot since freshman year and so have my feelings towards Key Club. Although Key Club was not that important to me freshman year, it was enough for me to run for an officer position. I got elected to serve as Lake Ridge Key Club’s Webmaster my sophomore year.
That year was rough to say the least. It was the first year that we were fully back in school since Covid-19, so it was difficult getting the club up and running again. I am not sure that I knew what I was doing since it was my first year on the officer board, but I think that I made it work. After all, I did win the Top 3 Websites in Texas-Oklahoma! However, even though I struggled a bit that year, I made a lot of memories and my appreciation for Key Club grew. With that, I ran for the Vice President position. I won!
For the past year, I have been serving as my club’s Vice President, and it has been one of the highlights of my junior year. I love the other officers on the board, and we feel like a real family. I will say that is because of how much we bonded at LEDCON! I feel like we have done a lot this year and that we are really making an impact in our community. We did run into a few problems this year, but we have always been able to overcome them. One of my favorite things about Key Club has been the sense of community that the club has. There is just something special about seeing people come together under a common goal: helping others. The feeling that I get from volunteering and helping others is like no other. With how much Key Club has helped me, I wanted a way to be able to help it even more, so I ran for President. Spoiler alert: I won!
I cannot imagine the person that I would be without Key Club. I have met so many people and gained so many skills. As my third year is soon coming to an end, I cannot wait for the things that we will achieve next year!
