MASTER TOUR BRUGES

For centuries, Bruges was one of the most important cities in Europe. That rich history is reflected in many works of art by artists who considered Bruges their home. This Master Tour will take you to six absolute highlights created in and for this worldclass city.

MARIASTRAAT 38 BRUGGE

This medieval hospital has an inseparable connection with Hans Memling. Nowhere in the world will you find so many of the master's works in their original location. A visit to the Museum St John's Hospital will make your trip to Bruges even more rewarding. Now, you can also discover the Closer to Memling Experience

DISCOVER HERE THE MASTER PIECES BY HANS MEMLING:

• The Saint Ursula Shrine

• The triptych ‘The Adoration of the Magi’

• ‘The Lamentation of Christ’

• The triptych ‘John the Baptist and John the Evangelist’

Here you are, standing in front of the second-tallest brick-built church tower in the world – a whopping 115.5 metres high, if you please. Nowhere is the craftsmanship of Bruges' builders more beautifully displayed. Speaking of craftsmanship, the church itself will also overwhelm you with its rich collection of art.

DISCOVER HERE:

• The ornamental tomb of Mary of Burgundy and Charles the Bold

• The passion triptych by Bernard van Orley and Marcus Gheeraerts

Hans Memling

Hans Memling (1430-1494) created these four paintings after receiving a commission from the sisters and brothers of the hospital. More than half a millennium later, the works can still be admired in their original location. The museum has three other paintings by the painter himself, making it the secondlargest Memling collection in the world.
