The area, in which the church will be hosted, is essentially an empty urban space without definition. The randomness that characterizes it is being eradicated by etching an ambient zone that is framing the interior of the square, while ensuring a comfortable perimeter sidewalk.
The leveling of the inner space of the square not only maximizes comfortable movement but also defines the main square even better.
The basic point of view and entrance is the western center of the square. From that point, the ridge of Hymettus rises more sharply the more the beholder turns his gaze to the south.

The church, rotated towards the East of course, is placed on the north side of the square in order to leave the view of Mount Hymettus free.
The oriented system of the church does not comply with the area’s Hippodameian current system which obviously goes through the square. This creates a differentiation which must be faced in terms of design.
The integration of the two systems is achieved by devising an element that comes from the system of the square, increases in height and thickness, rotates polarizing in the direction of the church, while etching and creating its outer limits.

Analysis

West-East Axis The temple shows its empowerment from the cosmic configuration by symbolically turning to the east, to the notional sun of justice that, according to hymnography, is Christ. This axis is often invigorated in relation to its vertical axis, the northsouth axis, to indicate the spiritual meaning of the movement to the sanctuary which is the end and completion of this course.
KAPNIKAREA - Athens
HOSIOS LOUKAS - Boeotia
HAGIA SOPHIA - Constantinople
SAINT DIMITRIOS - Thessaloniki
Vertical Axis The centrally-located peak of the dome intertwined with the depiction of the face of the Almighty, implies the notion of life’s centricity which ultimately is identical to God.
Core - Surrounding Area A finding was that the structure of the temple is a composition of two basic elements: a central region, a core, and a zone surrounding the core. The core is characterized by the dialectical co-existence of the square on the ground floor, symbolizing the earthly element, with the circle of the dome in the upper view, symbolic of the Divine. The surrounding area enriches the temple with spatial qualities and prepares for the experience of the nave.
Trilateral Division The tripartite division of the church, castnave- sanctuary, beyond the necessary operating division, describes the main spiritual movement-transition of the believer’s heart, from the material world and the biotic care to the contemplation of God.
Light Escalation The light in the church is rich from the higher areas, while significantly limited in the lower. This contributes to the rate of horizontal cosmic viewings while turning the gaze and mind upward.
