Celebrating 70 Years of Rod Building Excellence The Lamiglas Story
Lamiglas has been innovating in rod development since 1949. Starting as a blank manufacturer of fiberglass designs, Lamiglas evolved into the premier rod and blank company, offering technique-specific fishing rods. Innovating in graphite, fiberglass and composite designs, Lamiglas has always kept at the forefront of the industry through rapid, responsive development work. The first blank ever rolled at Lamiglas was an 11' fiberglass surf blank. Long one-piece blanks have been a specialty of Lamiglas since the beginning. Building fiberglass blanks gave Lamiglas the ability to provide top-quality USA-made blanks for surf, freshwater, fly and saltwater builders. Lamiglas invested in hiring top-level Boeing Engineers to pioneer blank designs that had never been produced before. This commitment to innovation and design provided the groundwork that continues to build today.
The Lamiglas Result
Factory-built Lamiglas fishing rods have been a staple of anglers for decades. Lamiglas has always been focused on innovating, even if it means being the first to try something new. As a result, Lamiglas designs have been emulated by rod builders and companies the world over. While many manufacturers have shied away from fiberglass and composite designs, Lamiglas goes full-steam ahead with them while also offering the best in graphite and high-modulus rods. With ultra-durable yet highly fishable saltwater options, Lamiglas has a strong foothold in both offshore and inshore rod design. The surf rod lineup is legendary. From the most popular surf rod ever built, the "GSB," to our latest creation, the Nightshift, Lamiglas Surf is here to stay. Salmon and steelhead rods are a first language at Lamiglas. With everything from ultrasensitive finesse rods to powerful boat rods for trolling, the lineup is unmatched. The bass and walleye options provide tapers and actions that hit classic techniques squarely while allowing for some of the most precise and sensitive feels available. Fly anglers fishing for everything from trout to tarpon will find that there’s a Lamiglas rod to meet their needs. Lamiglas continues to be focused on quality products and servicing our clients to the highest level. Our company looks forward to a continued positive relationship with all of the great anglers worldwide who enjoy this amazing sport of fishing.
The Lamiglas Team is committed to continuous improvement in our manufacturing processes, producing the finest quality fishing rods and blanks, servicing our clients to the highest level and continuing our innovative and industry-leading rod and blank design. That has been the hallmark of Lamiglas for 70 years, and it will continue for many more. Lamiglas donates to organizations that advocate for healthier runs of fish and create more anglers by teaching people to fish:

Rod Labels, Actions, and Power Reading a Rod Label
To select the right Lamiglas rod, pay close attention to the details. (We do!) Surprisingly, there is no consistent, scientific methodology that all rod manufacturers use to rate their rods. Some use computers, others use complex graphs. We use fish...along with more than 70 years of experience. Each rating is a collective recommendation of the hi-low thresholds in which the rod is designed to optimize performance. The variable factors for each rod, lure weight, line weight, action, and power are clearly listed throughout this catalog, as well as labeled on the rods just above the handle. Assures you made the right choice

Action
“Action” is the measurement of deflection or flex the rod exhibits under load, and more importantly, where that flex occurs along the length of the blank.“Extra Fast” actions concentrate more of the flex towards the tip of the rod. “Slow” actions distribute the flex progressively throughout the entire blank. Because there is no single, scientifically accurate measurement system accepted by the entire industry, not all actions are exactly alike. Lamiglas rod actions are dictated by a variety of factors; the intended application, targeted prey, lure weight, line weight and, quite honestly, what the professionals on our team recommend.
Power
Applicable to all of our rods except our fly rods, “power” is defined by the amount of pressure required to flex the blank. These rods are designed to optimally manage a specific range of lure and line weights. The heavier the line and lure, the more power you’ll need to cast, fight and pull effectively. The lighter the line and lure, the less power you’ll need.
4
Weight
A rod that feels heavier each time you cast eventually slows you down. The type and amount of material used contributes greatest to this factor. Lamiglas selects the lightest material and components for the job, but we resist the temptation to go “too light.” All rods can break. We design rods strong enough to cast for a lifetime, without excess weight that would make your arms feel lifeless.
Taper
The measurement of change in the diameter of the blank from the tip to the butt is known as the “taper.” Many use the term synonymously with “action.” Actually, taper is one of the factors which rod builders use to achieve the desired action. An aggressive taper at the tip creates a faster action. A straight taper (one which changes at an equal rate throughout the blank) creates a moderate or slower action.

About Rods and Blanks
Centerpin Rods
“The Closer” Centerpin Centerpin fishing, reinvented
The Closer has reinvented how anglers think about centerpin rods. Long gone are the days of soft, noodly rods that are hard to mend and can’t bury hook sets on a long drift. With the ultra sensitive and fast tip of The Closer, you will mend your line with ease every time, have perfect float control, and will be able to set the hook perfectly at long distances. The moderate action and parabolic nature of the blank will protect leaders from break offs. The guides are over-sized recoils on the top for fewer icing issues, with durable and sleek ceramics on the bottom section. There are “float-depth” indicators along the spine of the rod, to quickly calculate depth from the hook-keeper. The reel seat and sliding ring (“R”) models are optimized for all types of reels and are perfectly positioned on the custom proprietary CFX Carbon-Weave handles. The handle warms to the touch and grips phenomenally, even in cold/wet weather. Designed by Roger Hinchcliff from the Great Lakes and the Lamiglas team, this series will accommodate steelhead and salmon fisheries everywhere. Rod

XCC Kwik Series Redesigned for 2020
The XCC Kwik series rods have long been known as the most functional salmon/steelhead trolling rods on the market. They are now also the most attractive. The CFX carbon fiber grips paired with the ultra thin matte black finish on the blank not only makes them more appealing to the eye, but also creates a lighter overall rod with increased sensitivity, while still maintaining the incredible durability that the rods are known for. These rods allow trolled, back-trolled plugs, and bait to produce more action. The softness of the glass in the tip section of the blank allows for the fish to take the bait before feeling the rod–but the power of the graphite in the bottom section of the rod allows for deep hook penetration and fish fighting power. If you’re hanging rods out of rod holders, pulling divers, loading into downriggers, sending plugs out...the XCC Series provides optimal handling. XCCs are graphite/glass composite rods. Rod

Classic Glass Classic feel, classic favorite
These classic fiberglass two-piece rods not only hook fish, they land fish effectively as well. The continuous moderate bend of the proven fiberglass blank optimizes your downrigger program, trolls baits flawlessly, allows plugs to “hunt,” yet quickly responds to the bite. There is plenty of bend in the rod to keep a salmon hooked on the way to the boat, yet enough backbone to provide lifting power when needed. Rod

Surfcasting Rods
NEW Nightshift Surf The next level of Lamiglas Surfcasting
New M4 nano particle technology meets carbon fiber to bring you a new level of performance in surfcasting. Inspired by the Surfcasters Journal Nightshift crew and developed by Lamiglas surfcasting guru Sean Kearney, these rods are created with a new type of M4 nano particle technology and reinforced with multi directional layered carbon fiber. What that adds up to is a lightweight, fast action rod, with a lightning fast recovery that still has the ability to load up evenly on a cast and launch a plug to incredible distances. The carbon fiber bottom section of the rod provides tons of backbone and is designed to stop big fish in their tracks. CFX Carbon Fiber weave material was custom molded to create an ultra comfortable, lightweight handle grip. A matte black finish and the highest quality Fuji components round out this USA-made rod series.

Surfcasting Rods
GSB Series
A legendary surf option
The Lamiglas GSB surf blanks have long been the staple of surfcasting in the Northeast. For decades the GSB has been the most widely used surf blank in the world, and it continues to be the number one choice for surfcasters today. The reason for that is the extremely durable graphite used in the blanks along with the unmatched versatility it offers, created by the finely tuned moderate action. The GSB will work better than most in open beach situations, but in the rocks, canals, and on the jetties the GSB has been unrivaled for decades. There are one-piece rod options and twopiece rods which are engineered to flex and perform like a one-piece.The rods feature a custom “X Flock” style handle with a double locking Fuji deluxe reel seat. The black stainless steel Fuji K frame guides were laid out to a custom modified New Guide Concept layout to be optimized with the most popular reels used for surfcasting. The thread wraps are black with silver inlays and silver logos on the rod for a modern, stealthy look. Also featured on the 10and 11-foot models is the “Mark of the 50,” a 50” indicator on the blank, measured exactly 50” from the Fuji buttcap for a quick and accurate measurement of your fish of a lifetime! The new GSB series surf rods are proudly handcrafted from start to finish in the USA.

NEW Columbia River Series Rods designed for the famous Columbia River
With the Lamigas headquarters situated conveniently right next to the sturgeon fishing mecca of the Columbia River, why wouldn’t we build the perfect rod for sturgeon fishing? This rod is made from a proprietary blend of fiberglass and graphite, which allows the sturgeon to nibble on your bait without feeling the rod, and allows you to read exactly what is going on under the surface. The bottom section of the rod is all power, meant to be able to subdue the biggest of the biggest. EVA foam foregrips make for a comfortable handle while fighting these powerful fish, and a double locking aluminum reel seat provides peace of mind. S Rod P I N CRS70H*

Walleye Rods
The Closer Walleye Series Taking walleye jigging to the next level
"The Closer" Walleye rods prove that the perfect walleye rod will produce more fish hooked and more fish in the boat. An extra fast tip action will help immensely on hook sets in deeper water and strong currents. The extremely high modulus graphite is truly capable of feeling fish both on the top of a jigging motion or on the fall. With custom woven CFX carbon handles that are optimized for a sensitive, balanced feel, high quality double locking Fuji reel seats, and larger guides to decrease icing when jigging in colder temperatures, we’ve made every effort to provide the best walleye rod design ever. Designed by Roger Hinchcliff from the Great Lakes and the Lamiglas team.

Lamiglas American-Made Fishing Rod Blanks Custom rod building is more than a hobby, it’s the art of embracing anglers’ unique needs. Our USA-made and proven blanks provide the canvas for the builder. Lamiglas started as a blank builder in 1949, and our designs have kicked off multiple technique-specific rod staples. Unlike many other blank manufacturers, we are not afraid to take on unique challenges, blending many types of materials, classic proven fiberglass options, highly optimized graphites, and other new developments. Lamiglas supplies rod builders who believe their handiwork should be utilized on a respected blank. USA-made from the first roll to where we tag the finished blank, Lamiglas blanks give you the assurance that you’ve built your custom rod on a premium blank with tested and optimized actions.

It sounds idealistic to have power, sensitivity, leader protection, and beauty all in one blank, but it's not. We are confident when we say that The Closer series models are the finest float blanks in the world, and that's why they continue to sell to builders and anglers anywhere steelhead and salmon are found. Salmon-Steelhead and Surfcasting Blanks
GSB Series Blanks
GSB series blanks are hands down the most well-loved surf blanks ever produced. They are ridiculously durable, but they are also amazing to fish. The versatility of these blanks cannot be overstated. Anglers have long used them for plug fishing, live bait, bucktails, and every other imaginable technique. The moderate action makes for easy casting, with depth and accuracy. They have the power to pull fish around rocks and boulders and are a Northeast staple for that reason. Beautiful gloss graphite in one- and two-piece options. The GSB1101ML is the ever popular “John Skinner” blank, and the OS models designate popular actions from decades ago created using newer materials. Just ask a surfcaster. They'll know about the GSB. High Gloss Clear Finish. Blank No.

Fiberglass Surf Blanks
We wouldn't need to promote these one bit, and they'd just keep flying out the door. We've sold these for decades upon decades, since 1949, in fact. Absolute durability, power, and strong flex means these blanks can launch baits and weights farther than you'd like to know. Ideal for surf, catfish, sturgeon, salmon plunking, and beyond. See why builders keep relying on our Fiberglass Surf Blanks. To order a blank with black finish, add “B” to the beginning of model number (example, BSB1362M). Honey or Black finish, except for SB1665F and SB1805F, Black finish only. Blank No.

SALTWATER BLANKS Fiberglass Trolling Blanks
Classic blanks with modern technology. These blanks are exceptional for many saltwater applications, especially trolling. A great moderate action allows you to detect bites with the rod bent in trolling situations and also absorbs the impact of a thrashing fish to keep the hooks pinned in its mouth. Model numbers below are for Honey colored blanks. To order in a Black or White finish, add either a “B” or a “W” to beginning of model number.

Surf and Saltwater Blanks
Tri-Flex Inshore V2 Blanks
Two parts graphite, one part glass. These options span the range of inshore techniques but provide one consistent message: durability and finesse can be one. With blanks that can do everything from heavy three-way bait techniques to plug fishing and jigging, this inshore series has been depended on for fisheries that require something special. Ratings on blanks differ based on casting or sinker weight. These blanks tend to run slightly heavier than the usual blank ratings. Check our website for more information on this classic series. This year we’ve added a few brand-new blanks to the series and brought back some of the ever-popular CGBT models. Matte Black Finish. Blank No.

FRESHWATER BLANKS
Infinity Ultralight Blanks
Sensitivity is mentioned time and time again, but maybe we need to emphasize it here. The expensive but necessary graphite we buy to create these blanks responds quickly, but the taper we designed still feels totally “ultra-light.” Diameter is small, balance is excellent...this is probably one of the most enjoyable blanks in the world to fish. Polished Finish. Blank No.

Prolong The Life And Performance of Your Lamiglas Rod
Lamiglas fishing rods are built with the finest materials available and constructed to exacting standards. Our expectations of every rod are extremely high. With some common sense and careful handling, your Lamiglas rod will offer a lifetime of exceptional experiences. The following are some tips and tactics that will help out along the way.
Line Ratings
The individual characteristics built into each and every Lamiglas rod highlights the rod’s intended use. As a part of that, the strength and flex of the blank is balanced to the recommended line ratings. A Lamiglas rod is rated so that when the rod is held at a 45-degree angle or less, line will break before the rod does. Angles greater than 45 degrees transfer undue stress to the tip section of the rod (practically eliminating the ability of the stronger butt section to carry any load), and in extreme cases can result in rod failure with as little as two pounds of directed pressure. This is known as “high sticking.” It is not only proper use that requires a rod angle of 45 degrees or less, but this is also the area where you’ll find the greatest power from the rod and have the best control over the fish.
Lure Ratings
Lure ratings provide a range of lure weights in which exceptional performance will be found. Using a lure that is lighter than the listed weight will not properly load the rod, resulting in reduced casting distance and sensitivity. Using a lure that is heavier than the listed weight will overpower the rod. Again, distance and sensitivity will suffer, along with the compounded problem of overstressing blank fibers.
Reel Installation And Removal
Prior to reel installation, lubricate the reel foot and threads of the reel seat. Insert the reel and tighten the lock nut finger tight. Move the reel side to side and tighten again. Repeat the process until the reel no longer moves. Graphite reel seats should never be over tightened and pliers should never be used in that process. Over extended periods, the reel seat may seize to the reel foot. Slowly loosen the locking nut. If it starts to seize, tap the reel seat hood. This will break loose the deposits that have built up over time. Continue to loosen the nut. If the hood is not tapped loose from the reel foot, you risk separating the hood from the locking nut.
Locking Nut 38
Hood
Transportation
The key to rod transportation is eliminating sharp impact to the blank. The best place for a rod to travel is inside a protective sleeve or tube. If not carried in a tube, the rods should not be left to bounce against other rods or terminal rigging (weights, swivels, lures, etc.). Always affix the sections tip to tip and butt to butt. This keeps the delicate tip from being crushed against the uneven and much larger handle.
Storage
Store rods in either the horizontal or vertical position. If leaned in a corner, a set or bow can occur over time. Never leave your rods where critters can get to them. Scents, salt from perspiration and other biological contaminants are a surefire attraction to undesirables.
Cleaning The Rod Blank
The best cleaner we have found for cleaning the blank and handle is a mixture of one part isopropyl alcohol and four parts warm water, along with a good dose of liquid dish soap. Using a soft sponge, scrub the blank and handle, then rinse with clean water. Dabbing problem areas with the soap mix for a few minutes before scrubbing can soften heavy build up. Once you have the rod clean, a coat of wax will simplify the maintenance of a beautiful finish. We recommend any of the carnuba based car waxes. Fish scales and many types of bait will not stick to a waxed rod and makes cleaning them very easy. If you are fishing every day, a coat of wax every week should suffice.
Cleaning Guides And Reel Seats
As strange as it may sound, the use of a toothbrush and toothpaste will remove the stubborn deposits on rod guides and reel seats. After cleaning the reel seats, coat with any light oil. This method works on all reel seats.
