The 2019 Animas takes the time-proven features that made the original Animas a guide favorite, while incorporating machining features that bring it into the modern era of Ross. A fully-redesigned frame and spool are highlights of the new Animas. The spool shows off the cutting-edge manufacturing techniques Ross Reels has developed, delivering a design that is incredibly strong and visually stunning. The Animas also joins the family by incorporating an ultra-light canvas phenolic handle which gets tackier when wet. A new trouble-free spool release yields zero-maintenance performance, allowing the Animas to be ready for any fresh or saltwater excursion. The frame is accented by a machined silhouette of the Colorado mountains in Ross Reels’ backyard. Its uniquely ported design and structural profile are eye-catching industry firsts. The two-tone drag knob sports an updated aesthetic with a lower profile and increased grip. An improved composite drag system delivers more power in an established Ross design loved by more than 80,000 fly anglers the world over.

The Ross Reels Evolution series defined the modern trout reel. Now meet the award-winning Evolution LTX: the perfect combination of original Evolution LT feel and Evolution R performance.
The large arbor spool includes an innovative line channel for cleanly hiding arbor knots when winding on backing. The Ross Reels signature bell-shaped arbor design also adds strength, while helping to self-level the fly line across the face of the spool as it is retrieved. The LTX also incorporates a handle machined from canvas phenolic rod (another Ross Reels innovation), which reduces weight, adds durability, and increases grip when wet. These improvements make the LTX a true light saltwater contender, perfectly at home on the flats as it is on the shores of a western river.

The ultra-smooth drag found in the Evolution LT has a long and revered history, but our engineering team took this design to the next level. The drag debuting with the LTX is over four times stronger than its predecessors’, while retaining the sound and feel that helped make the Evolution an icon. This allows it to perform not only as a perfect trout reel, but also has the power to take on saltwater game fish like Redfish, Bonefish, and Snook.

GUNNISON MADE IN USA
Cutting through the Black Canyon on the Western Slope of Colorado, and only 10 miles from the Ross Reels factory, the storied Gunnison river inspired the name for one of the most iconic, reliable, and best-selling fly reels ever produced. As a tribute to the original aesthetics, the Gunnison is designed with octagonal machining, round porting, and a leader groove on the frame. That is where the similarities part ways, as the new Gunnison represents the best in modern reel design while retaining all the reliability and ruggedness of the original. While the unique frame geometry and spool profile echo the original Gunnison, the contemporary porting and large arbor design make this a modern, bulletproof package with retro styling. The Gunnison also has a sealed drag based on the same platform as the new Evolution LTX, creating a reliable and powerful system impervious to the elements. At the end of the day, replacing what was the favorite (and in many cases the first) fly reel of so many anglers was a daunting task. These were huge shoes to fill, but the new Ross Reels Gunnison has risen to the occasion.

Fishing in the salt is a grueling endeavor. The conditions are tough, and the fish can be even tougher; so we developed the Evolution R Salt to stand up to anything the sea can throw at it. The R Salt builds on the foundation of its smaller sibling, but instead of the Evolution R’s 7-disc system, it features a supercharged 16-disc sealed drag system comprised of stainless steel and carbon fluoropolymer, producing nearly 30 pounds of drag pressure. Also an industry first, the R Salt features two smaller counterbalances on the spool - this innovative design reduces mass and creates perfect, vibration-free performance when line is being ripped off the spool on long runs. This exceptional braking power is housed in a lightweight, yet incredibly strong frame and spool that is based on the Evolution R’s unique design. The large, frame-integrated drag knob allows for easy on-the-fly adjustments with just the palm of your hand during long fights with oversized quarry. The R Salt geometry is reinforced throughout, yielding an incredibly rugged, yet elegant reel that performs in the most challenging of environments. All of this comes together to create a fishing tool with a power-to-weight ratio never before seen in a saltwater fly reel, making the R Salt the most unique, best performing reel per dollar of any on the water today.

Machining a fly reel is as much art as it is skill. Just as a perfect loop flying over the water is a thing of beauty, crafted by the caster, the Evolution R is the culmination of our engineers’ and machinists’ artistic and technical prowess. The R is not only lightweight, but also incredibly rigid and durable, with a unique geometry that is as functional as it is stylish. The innovative shape of the ultra-large arbor spool is engineered to force the even winding of the line across the face of the spool as it is retrieved - something never before seen in a fly reel. The drag design is also an industry first: a fully sealed, bonded carbon fluoropolymer and stainless steel interface that delivers smooth power in a lightweight, compact package. Start up inertia is virtually nonexistent to protect the most delicate of tippet. The R’s extremely wide range of brake adjustment also manages to produce some of the highest drag pressure found in an ultralight fly reel. This all is controlled by a subtle yet striking, frameintegrated drag knob that blends perfectly into the form of the reel. Its solid grip allows for easy manipulation of settings - even while wearing gloves. Couple this with the canvas phenolic handle, first introduced by Ross Reels, the on-the-water functionality of the R is like no other.

This is what inspired us when designing the lightest member of the Ross Reels family, the Colorado LT. It’s simplicity at its finest: when you are able to focus on everything except your equipment. ULTRALIGHT WEIGHT Harkening back to the Colorado™, our original click and pawl reel, the Colorado LT retains the same ruggedness and the signature all-metal clicker of the original Colorado. However, the Colorado LT is built with a new aesthetic and modern design evident in its large arbor and highly detailed porting. Although it is the lightest reel in its class, you will not find any plastic here. A super-strong, fully machined aluminum frame and spool are paired with a handle machined from canvas phenolic rod - an industry first. This innovative material is found in the handles of highend custom knives and also has the very useful property of increasing grip when wet. Adding to its elegant simplicity, the Colorado LT boasts only 15 total parts, all designed, machined, and assembled in Montrose, Colorado USA. This heritage is reflected in the Colorado flag milled into the frame and the mountain silhouette found on the anodized aluminum clicker cover.
