GREAT NEW STADIUM. VALENCIA

CAMP NOU STADIUM. BARCELONA

“Camp Nou Park“ The layout of the stadium’s premises is irregular and polygonal. The urban context is marked by heterogeneous use and buildings of extremely varying scale. The project seeks to take advantage of, and engage the entire site area through the creation of a park-like complex that will surround the stadium. The park’s characteristic element will be the Catalonian Umbrella Pine (Pinus pinea), whose canopy form and evergreen colour guarantees a constantly high spatial and aesthetic quality.

Primary functions Players The players are situated on Level 1, as in the current structure. The new modifications will create a separate entrance for the players through the new underground parking. This area of the parking will also be accessible for busses.

Press A “mixed zone for press conferences, along with work spaces for the press will also be located on Level 1. The mixed zone will be expanded and will provide direct access to the field, underground parking, the changing rooms, the press conference rooms and the TV studios. The press reaches this area on Level 1 through separate entrances with screening/security from Level 3. This ensures for the con trolled separation of players and press. The playing field can be reached directly from the working spaces of the press. Private and separate staircases and elevators connect the working areas of the press with the press viewing stand on Level 9. This connection guarantees independent and non-crossing paths for players, press and media representatives, along with spectators and VIPs.

TV-Media The TV studios can be accessed directly from the mixed zone. The paths correspond to those of the press. The commentator seats will be located in the press stand. A control center is located within the press stand area in order to facilitate better communication between the various media. The essential camera positions meet FIFA and UEFA standards. Studios for the presenters and commentators are set up in the box ring on Level 7 according to necessity.

Primary functions Level 1

Service A production kitchen is provided to supply the gastronomic facilities, with corresponding storage rooms on Level 1. The majority of the kitchen and storage rooms now occupy existing spaces, previously used as entrances to the lower tiers. On Level 2, this part of the main grandstand hosts changing rooms for kitchen and service staff, along with the central entrance control for personnel, entirely separated from the visitor flow.

Service Supply and disposal The stadium’s service supply and disposal is accommodated in the new tangential service tunnel on level 1, which is not visible to the spectator. This passage is designed for two-way traffic for trucks and has connections to the football field, the new parking and the municipal road network. All storage areas and grandstand service lifts are situated on this ring, next to the entrances on Level 1. This configuration guarantees an incident-free flow of traffic, plus functionally and spatially independent, flexible service supply and disposal units for the entire stadium at all times.

Parking Due to extensive underground construction work around the stadium, the building of an underground parking lot is practically given. A total of 1380 parking spaces are available on two levels, with direct access to the stands. In the main grandstand area, the distribution of parking on two levels allows the separation of players, officials and VIPs.

Primary functions Level 2

Spectators The new layout preserves as many seats of the original Camp Nou building as possible, particularly in the lower and middle tiers, and avoids shifting seats from lower to upper tiers. The original building from 1957 will remain untouched, apart from minor structural exceptions. A second ring of VIP boxes and the upper tier’s new construction will inevitably necessitate seat relocations in the upper tier. Along with kiosks, bars and sanitary facilities, all staircases will be redesigned to facilitate clear and effective circulation. Ramps are omitted and will be replaced by large service lifts.

Roof Structure The roof structure is based on the form of spokes emanating from the centre of a wheel, with compression and tension members that combine to create a striking and an aesthetic undulating glass roof silhouette. The system consists of a strong circumferential compression ring above the stadium bowl and a quasi concentric tension truss sys tem in the inner edge of the roof, extended to a form a cantilevered interior roof. The structural elements combine the light ness of the cable system on the lower chords and the stiffness of the upper truss structure, to support the permanent and imposed loads on the roof. Analysis of the roof structure takes into account environmental loads and local wind conditions. In addition load combinations out of the highest load cases. An analysis of the materials in relation to pre-stress and temperature conditions is required through a geometric non-linear analysis program. The concept of a flat roof structure minimizes the wind effects on the structure and the connecting structural members. The round segmented shape of the roof enables standardization of all roof elements and details, which will reduce costs. Due to the nearly round shape of the stadium and therefore inherent homogenous force flow, it is possible to support the highest loaded elements (especially the inner tension ring) with only a very few connections.

NEW MUNICIPAL STADIUM. ZARAGOZA

Paso 4: Tubos completamente inflados.

NEW RASHID STADIUM. DUBAI

TomรกsLlavador Arquitectos e Ingenieros proposes to design a functional, modern and sustainable stadium for Al Alhi; An idea that, once built, will project and communicate the values and ambition of the team, its history and commitment with the sport and with its fans. The stadium will become a new and powerful reference for all football fans and for Al Alhi team. Visiting the stadium will be an absolute experience. We envision the Rashid Stadium project as a single piece, where the activities that surround the football stadium support the sports program as well as the marketing and commercialization of the brand and team Al Alhi. The project becomes a great urban facility, an urban meeting place that facilitates relations for social, cultural and business activity. To the west of the existing stadium, an VVIP area of approximately 1000 m2 is proposed, with meeting and banquet facilities as well as intimate spaces where one can calmly sip a cup of tea or see a camel or horse race with friends. Large screens with leading-edge technology will allow users to view matches from other football leagues around the world. An elevated volume hosts 20 corporate boxes from which one has a privileged view of the playing field. In the north, a hotel of approximately 5000 m2 houses 80 rooms, as well as ample spaces for meetings, banquet and event spaces, some with views of the playing field. To the south, an office building and exhibition center allows for business and events compatible with the sports activity, such as falconry or hawking.

AL TALABA STADIUM. IRAQ

The New Sports Complex of Al Talaba Sports Club is located in the north area of Baghdad, in the corresponding site of Al Talaba Stadium. The plot, with a surface area of 67.579 m2 and slightly triangular shape, is currently occupied by several outdoor sports courts, auxiliary constructions and the stadium, which holds 10.000 spectators. The project for the New Sports Complex of Al Talaba Sports Club comprises the demolition of the existing constructions, the adaptation of the existing area and services and the construction of different buildings such as a football stadium, a sports centre and an office and hotel building. In addition, it also includes the urban development of the plot, which would integrate outdoor sports courts and parking spaces into the open green areas. The aim of this proposal is to provide Al Talaba Sports Club with up-to-date and accessible sports facilities with high level of quality. By means of a suitable program of sports and complementary uses and through the use of sustainable materials, this complex would make possible that the club and the city enjoy this building as an innovation and excellence reference. The concept of the project offers maximum flexibility in the use and functioning of the sports complex. It will attend to the social demand of the neighborhood and also the use of high level competition. The incorporation of this sports facility in the city will work as a dynamic element of the sports activity and will promote the sport among young people.

AMERICA´S CUP PORT OF VALENCIA

The 32nd America’s Cup master plan establishes a program for the port area adapted to the competition’s needs and contemplates its subsequent development for leisure, public services and tertiary use. Following the commission by Consorcio Valencia 2007 our proposal contemplated new building construction - team bases, regatta office, press center, and the Foredeck or guest building - where we detail the design of open and landscaped spaces. Concurrently, we outline the improvement of the port’s installations to include 1,500 berths, in particular the floating pontoons for 25 - meter boats or the new docks for yachts of more than 50 meters in length. Given the scope of the proposal and the natural conditions of the area developed, the master plan gives shape to an urban infrastructure that is within reach of very few cities.

ALINGHI BASE 32nd AMERICA’S CUP

Choosing Valencia as the venue for the 32nd America’s Cup entailed adapting the city’s port installations to the event, starting in 2004 with the different trials that would take place until the competition’s final phase in 2007. For this purpose, the organization offered participating teams a basic building each team to adapt to its own requirements. Alinghi, the defender, commissioned us to design and build a project that reflected its image as a sports team and its commitment to Valencia to promote sailing throughout the nautical competition.

BMW BASE 32nd AMERICA’S CUP

For the final design of its headquarters in the Port of Valencia, BMW-Oracle Racing conveyed that its main priority was that the design reflect the team’s approach to the competition and the particular image the sponsors wished to create with their presence in the city. This is the largest base of all of the ones built for America’s Cup and, like the rest, is easily accessible from the port’s inner roads has an extensive waterfront to facilitate manoeuvring the racing vessels. BMW-Oracle Racing additionally chose a strategic location that would offer an excellent view of the port’s inner basin.

UITG BASE 32nd AMERICA’S CUP

United internet Team Germany, the last of three commissions for competition bases for the 32nd America’s Cup, had a slightly smaller space on which to build its base in the Port of Valencia. For this project, we decided to make maximum use of the available area to produce a building close to the competitive German spirit, with a strong and sobering elegant image. The building forms part of the set of bases built next to the Modernist warehouses in the south zone of the port’s dock. Its details are a permanent reminder of the team’s origin and their approach to the competition.

F-1 URBAN CIRCUIT

This landscape design project for a key area in the development of the city of Valencia had to consider the adaptation of the public space in the dock to a triple situation: a venue for sports, like the F1 street circuit, space for maritime sports events such as the America’s Cup, and space for leisure and recreation for the city. For this reason the project is divided into permanent gardens and mobile gardens adapting to the different needs for road and leisure spaces. Both interventions are combined to create a continuous but changing, attractive public space along Valencia’s waterfront. Besides Mediterranean gardens, palm groves, resting areas with pergolas and playgrounds, an innovative modular system of moving sidewalks and curbs has been developed, including signposting and lighting of the large avenues which border the dock.
